Oh my god!! Who would of thought RM would create (or find) something of use.

I spit my drink out all over my computer screen when I read the punchline.

*falls over dead*

I... I just... Have nothing. Its amazing. Brain is really digging in the old things for jokes. I expect him to "DUN DUN DUN" or bring up RMs mad with power trait next!

This is the first comic strip that has made me laugh to the point of being incapable of moving or talking for a minute in months.

And not just within 8-Bit, I mean anywhere.

I mean....gah! The setup for that was amazing! Well played, Brian!

Oh.. my.. god. I laughed so hard at the end of that I got dizzy. Then I kept giggling about it for several minutes. I still am, in fact.

Kudos, sir.

Sarda better be joking. I didn't find that funny at all! I mean the cold fusion generator in itself was something rather stupid that I hated entirely of a long line of things Rm's made over the years. And that it was the thing he was expected to make it? That's stupid! Well, unless the device hasn't melted yet, it should stil be in the box the DW were in.

I laughed because I didn't see it (the punchline) coming.

That's it. It just makes up for the reasons I didn't see it coming; in other words what wasn't funny about it.

"dimensional rift" was a better line, all in all.

That was just so totally unexpected that I was incapacitated through laughter for five minutes.

Red Mage has saved them all. Saved them, I say! Saved them good!

Awesome unexpectedness, there. I wonder if Garland will use the information he 'wrangled' out of Fighter...

I still remember RM coming with the idea of the cold FISSION generator. Maybe the cold fusion generator is something different.

Everyone is kinda missing the rather scathing point Fighter is making. It's true, most parties of "heroes" in RPGs usually are nothing more than a band of roving murderers, slaying everything and anything in thier path towards what they think is a noble cause...
Especially the LWs.

Wait... they were supposed to find the cold fusion generator?? But... but that's... it... I... *sputters incoherently while convulsing*

Maybe the cold fusion generator is what powers the airship this time around?

really good brian. but what of the orb of ice?

Dr.GoldenClaw
05-10-2005, 05:54 AM
There IS no orb of ice.

Orb of Earth
Orb of Fire
Orb of Water
Orb of Air

That's IT.

I never, never would have seen that coming. That was absolutely genious.

Skyshot
05-10-2005, 06:24 AM
THAT WAS AWESOME!

That's all I can say. That's got to be in my favorite (single-digit number) moments in 8BT.

And I loved the way he said "The time for questions has passed" after asking for them and receiving a potentially difficult one.

Now, do you figure any of the other Dark Warriors are going to believe Garland actually saw Fighter?

"Okay, Garland, we've talked about this in the past. When you hear words that don't come from outside, those are your thoughts."

"But these did come from outside! He was right there!"

Etc etc.

Note to shiney: I defend that this is not a fan comic by saying it's a general outline of some thoughts, not what I expect to happen exactly or think should happen.

You know, it is funny (or perhaps it is not), but two years ago a close friend of mine made a typo of 'genius', typing it as 'genious'. Since then, he and I have used 'genious' as a term for bad ideas and especially poor typing/English. Also since then, everyone else on the Internet seems to have begun making the same error.

anytime i see fighter taking off flying, i hit the ground laughing.

Then, as soon as i get up, sarda is like, questions are over.
i hit the ground laughing. then i see the cold fusion generator

Lets just say i need a new floor.

You know, he said time for questions. Who said anything about replying to those questions?

Seems that way to me, too. I was starting to think that "Genious" was another, legitimate, spelling.

Really, the LW don't really need to say anything. Sarda's omnipotent anyway. I suppose he does all this (time for questions, etc) cos hes bored with his powers.

You, sir, has just found out the answer to the Universe! Now you can choose whether to continue prowling the web or to live happily ever after with an 8-Bit Theater DVD collection! All 500 episodes, taped, just for you!

For the first time ever, I was utterly disappointed.
The "Back at Circle Cave" bit would have been funny if the other LWs were flying off in the background of the first panels, and the cold Fusion reactor?
Come on...
That joke wasn't very funny the first time, it doesn't need to become a major plot point.

Rocketlex
05-11-2005, 02:04 PM
I think the Ice Orb is the cold fusion generator Sarda is talking about, or at least a power source for it.

:rmage: Of course! You can't have cold fusion unless you have something cold to fuse the coldness with.

Kurosen
05-11-2005, 02:11 PM
What plot point? It's funny because the reactor was "obviously" a throw away gag and a really lame idea. And now we find out it was the whole reason they were sent to the arctic. Inversion and disruption of expectation = comedy.

ZelGreywards
05-11-2005, 02:12 PM
Well... the orb of water (not Ice) is in the Sunken Shrine... so they can't get it from the Ice Cave.

They will likely have to encounter Kraken for it.

Inversion and disruption of expectation = comedy.

In this case, in my opinion, not a very good bit of comedy. It was good for half a laugh. It collapsed under its own weight.

am I the only one reminded of "The last hero" by Fighter's line?

Lord Vetinari: Well, What defines a hero, exactly?

Ponder Stibbons: Er . . . going out and defeating evil, slaying monsters, overthrowing tyurants, and the like . . .

Lord Vetinari: and who exactly defines the monstrosity of monsters and the tyranny of tyrants?

Ponder Stibbons: er . . .

Lord Vetinari: so, in effect, a "hero" is someone who, due to a title, is allowed to slaughter wildlife, overthrow governments, and perform other such acts that would make them a criminal in other's eyes and condemn a lesser man to doing, what I believe is called, the "Hemp fandango."

So the Cold Fusion Reactor is the item of absolute power... and now the DarK Warriors have it.
Will WM return soon?

Syka
05-11-2005, 05:59 PM
Maybe Sarda will summon WM, she could become one of the first summons Maybe she's Shiva? By the way, I loved the last line, laughed for a minute straight.

BM is sooo going to get violent over this. Er, rather, more violent than usual.

Skyshot
05-11-2005, 06:14 PM
Huh? What does White Mage have in common with Shiva that gives you that idea? Besides, it's unlikely Sarda will summon her back, considering he sent her there to get her out of the way in the first place. I doubt Sarda will be the one bringing her back, unless she can somehow get younger Sarda to do it.

Now, if they don't know the CFR is on the boat...they'll have to go back to the place they think they left it...only to find it's not there...and all hell will break loose...
Ah, ellipses...

Syka
05-11-2005, 07:20 PM
Skyshot; they're both female. The LWs probably sunk the boat already, so no more cold fusion :(

Number 81
05-11-2005, 08:12 PM
If they sunk the CFR then Sarda won't be happy.
P.s. What was with Akbar's diguise shop? they went in but we never saw what happened from there. Sorry I haven't been on the forums for a while.

PyrosNine
05-11-2005, 08:14 PM
And there is the off chance the thing's melted by now. And it's been proven it doesn't work. Oh well, They'll make it work somehow.
But at least there's something in the comic that features something to do with nuklear stuff.

Skyshot
05-11-2005, 08:23 PM
The Light Warriors didn't sink the boat -- the Dark Warriors got off it and disboarded without having to swim off. Also, it didn't melt over the time they spent getting to civilization, so it's probably still around.

Skyshot; they're both female.

They're both female? King Steve and Akbar are both male, but that doesn't mean much. ;) Besides, Shiva was nowhere in the first two games. It just don't work, man.

As for Akbar's "disguise shop," Black Mage kinda used a Hadoken on a barge full of medicines and food for dying orphans. They kinda want identity protection after that.

I am well aware that summons didn't exist in the original FF. But they do exist in Brian's comic, early (pre-LW) the old men were describing summoning circles, also at some point in the comic (sorry don't remember when) BM was in the uniform of a summoner (he even had the horn). The summons in some of the final fantasy games (mostly the latter) gave summons god-like roles, which is what WM appears to be; I just chose Shiva because that was the first female summons that came to mind. But I guess that Alexander could work, considering it's a holy robot.

Syka, please, this discussion is unneeded. There are no good ways to introduce Summons with the parameters you're using.

Also, that was a possible class change that'll never happen, thanks to the wizard.

Towards the beginning of the game. Whe fighter was interviewing potential LWs. Cloud showed up, and did a Summon. It was a Chocobo, but still.
