iBook Riot of 2005 (http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/08/16/computer.frenzy.ap/index.html)

That's right... I live in the city that made national news because the fucking dregs of humanity came out in force to get a $50.00 iBook laptop. 4 years old and previously owned by High School students!

I have lost a large amount of my faith in humanity. I am ashamed to admit that I am a resident of the county of Henrico...

said Paul Proto, director of general services for Henrico County. "But I think that people tend to get caught up in the excitement of the event -- it almost has an entertainment value."

I hope this guy just said what I think he did. If so, he gets cool points in my book.

And yes, this is sad.
"I took my chair here and I threw it over my shoulder and I went, 'Bam,"' the 20-year-old said nonchalantly, his eyes glued to the screen of his new iBook, as he tapped away on the keyboard at a testing station.

Jezus. As if it wasn't bad enough...they are getting MACs...these aren't even REAL computers!

Some bought them for $50.00 and are currently selling them on Ebay for almost 400.00...

Not even 24 hours have passed since its end... and we already have kick ass t-shirts!

I read about this too.

I wouldn't riot for an iBook.

I'd riot for a GeForce 7800, or one of those Alienware PCs, but not an iBook.
