I get to make the new comic thread while Brian wallows around in bed!

The blanket in this room has pictures of bees on it. And a cigarette burn. It's like what the Monarch would sleep on if he lived the sad, cheap fluorescent bulb-lit life of a 1950s traveling salesman, playing solitaire 'til dawn with a deck of 51.

Anyway! You will now discuss the latest comic/news update or suffer dire consequences.

-- Mashirosen

PS: you're probably not reading this, but if you are, girl at the con yesterday who was cosplaying Raz from Psychonauts, you are the best.

i think bagels are better. cause iowa city invented bruggers bagels, but no famous burger chains. and bruggers are damn tasty bagels.

These comics feel broken. Like a trip into the world where nothing makes sense and Brian Clevinger isn't funny.

Then I go and reread the last five 8-bit theatres and it is all good again. Confusing.

Oh come on. Some people just have different senses of humor than others.

I've been meaning to ask this for a while, and I'm not sure if it was already answered in another thread because I don't really read anyone else's posts in the episode threads because your opinions don't matter to me.

Are the EZ Company soldier sprites taken from Crash 'N' The Boyz: Street Challenge? Either that or a volleyball game I played a loooooong time ago.

Is this going to be a frequent thing? I'm all for a change of pace :D

Ah.. a look into the mind of TK...

I certsinly wasn't expecting more EZ company, but hey, ya take what you can get. Something about that last panel makes me feel good. Spiders jumping on soldiers out of a sense of rage at having lost their human form just feels... right. Way to go with the random vengence humor.

Are EZ company going to be around for every con now? It'd be new and exciting, like introducing a hip teenager into a dying sitcom Not that 8-bit is dying, but being double-alive can't hurt.

I still dislike those comics strongly, but for the first time I found something funny in them: the line about TK having technically not killed any of them.

So Tim, Scott, and Brain are all in one booth? Wow.

You'd think the sheer creative power of that would be enough to lift people into the air and toss em like rag dolls, themselves filled with smaller rag dolls.

Bring the Penny-Arcade guys over to the booth and we can create a rift in space-time the size of downtown New Jersey....

I thought this was just harkoning back to the old days of comics tuesday and thursday, and SOMETHING saturday.
Also, I thought I read those were River City Ransom sprites (and they resemble 'em to me)

Yeah, they're River City Ransom.

Burgers are clearly superior anyways. The forum proved it long ago. I just had to rub it in.

This comic is a perfect example of why, sometimes, it's best just not to ask.

Where's that spider sprite from? It looks familiar.

Great Cartoonist

It's probably a spider monster from FF1... or maybe a recolor of one.

Think camel spider.

Loyal

Definately a spider sprite from FF1.

That comic kinda reminded me of this weird movie where a bunch of jumping spiders got mutated into gigantic forms of their former selves and started killing all the townsfolks... Mostly through jumping on their heads and crushing them like grapes.

I believe I know of the movie you speak of. It's Eight Legged Freaks if I'm correct.

More EZ! =D

I'm now putting TK on the top of my list of favorits for this comic.

Why do you torment me?

I was hoping for more 8 bit today!

DOnt you know that when yous tart addsing extra segmentrs a series starts to suck?

Look what happened to EEk! The Cat. how it started to go to hell when they added clutter an dthe THunder Lizards, and the show started to focus far less on the purple cat.

I don't mind an occasional EZ company episode; but I hope this dose not become a regular thing.

As for the comic itself; I would say it was perrty good for an EZ company.

Eh. I read any comic that's put in front of me, just like I eat any food that's put in front of me.

Except for mushrooms. Meh.

I was actually expecting a con-comic. Though, it's nice to see the EZ boys are still alive. Well, sorta anyway.

I kind of prefer EZ company, really. It's fresh. It's new. It doesn't have the 500 comics in creation set up jokes, but it has the potential. I have this strange gut feeling that a lot of people just don't like it because it's here instead of whatever the heck the proper name for the FF1 thing is that Brian used to have before he settled on just doing that.

Archbio
08-20-2005, 04:51 PM
Sure.

What I'm actually thinking is: "They don't make comics the way they used to! Web comicky things have peaked with the Beatles and Garland!"

Right. I wouldn't call that a gut feeling.

Ok for those who are confused the proper name for the FF1 comic is 8-bit theather. Some think its called nuklear power.

8-bit theater
dinasty dreamers
nuklear age
ez company

I enjoy reading EZ Company and 8BT equally. They both share a certain...wit that I find hillarious.

The solution is quite simple. We clone Brain so his majestic creativity can be spread over two comics and, eventually, be absorbed into every facet of our culture, like a brain sponge.... thing.

It was only proven that Burgers were more popular than Bagels, and that the hordes of Burger worshipping baby eaters would stop at nothing to try and occult the majestic, soul sustaining light of the Bagel.

Secret Croissant Forever!

Also, I just figured the spiders in this strip were those spiders. Duh me (dummy).

Ok for those who are confused the proper name for the FF1 comic is 8-bit theather. Ahem:

The comic is not, technically, called 8-bit Theater. 8-bit Theater is the name I used for the section that hosted sprite comics on my old site. The idea was to run several comics. The Final Fantasy one that you're all familiar with, a story about Samus while she hunted down the last Metroid, a parody of 2D shooters (which saw some of its material in the too-darn-short-lived Space Blaster series of donation comics), a re-telling of the Mega Man mythos, and probably something with the River City Ransom sprites because it's a great game/series and the sprites are so easy to manipulate.

But everyone liked the FF one so much I just stuck with it.

Burgers are clearly superior anyways. The forum proved it long ago. I just had to rub it in.

But what if you used a bagel as a burger bun? What would happen then? Also, which is superior, turkey burgers, or beef? Personally, I prefer turkey, as they taste practically the same, except they're not as heavy, thus allowing me to eat my fill without feeling like I need a nap afterwards.

Aside from that, I would like to complain about the Ez Company comics... Its not that I don't enjoy them, its just that I don't sprite for them & I wish you people would *STOP* e-mailing me about it.

But one conclusion I have drawn from the complaints I've recieved, is that some people have a bit of difficulty distiguishing between the different characters. Thus, personally I feel a pallet swap is needed in EZcompany's future.

Besides, what better excuse is there to turn Roy G BIV into the Pink Ranger?

After thinking about it, most people don't like EZ Company simply because it replaces what they already are used to, which doesn't really make sense to me, since its by the same author, who has the same sense of humor, and the jokes he used in the EZ Company could have very well be put in, with a little minor adjustments.

Then again, you'd never know if Brian would put in a tank in the Final Fantasy comic just to screw with our heads.

Just because its not Final Fantasy, just because it doesn't have the Light Warriors, and just because there isn't a guy can shoot hadokens is no reason to hate EZ Company. Now...if you can bring up good reasons why you hate it, I'd like to hear them.

The only problem I would have is a pacing in the comics. The last FF comic didn't really have that cliffhanger feel to it, so I don't really see it as a problem this time.

PS: Cheeseburgers are the Lords of the Burger Kingdom.

Archbio
08-21-2005, 01:06 PM
To paraphrase the King: I still don't think it's funny.

Now I'm not going to take a lot of time analysing something I haven't found in the least bit interesting, let alone funny (except for a little part of the last episode). What's with making up ridiculous reasons why other people don't like it?

It's just a matter of taste!

Truce
08-21-2005, 02:13 PM
Ehh...true, I probably was a little too strong with my opinion in that last post.

Though, I'd still like to hear why some people hate it, like specifics on why it doesn't suit their tastes. Before I decide I hate something, I usually figured out what I hate about it.

We have been calling the famous FF1 sprite comic 8-bit theater for... about ever. That is not going to change.

See, its like a City of New York and State of New York. The Site is called "8-bit Teater" and the comic is also called "8-bit Theater". No need to change the name.

I don't know what the problem is. This last script would've killed with the haters if it was Fighter and Black Mage. My e-mail is overflowing with praise and wishes for more EZ Company, so that's good enough for me.

As long as the comics are well-designed overall and the jokes are funny, I say go for it.

I believe there are other unanswered questions in EZ Company. Like: Why is Tex a lone sniper.

Isn't it one more thing, really?

Also, I was going to add that perhaps that for those hypothetical readers the characters actually contribute to the joke (hence a lack of contribution with different characters) but I don't know.

Edit: Well, maybe not Black Mage and Fighter specifically, but that other strip based on FF did accumulate a lot of character baggage over time, so there might be some "new is bad" thing in my case too, or rather "embryonal isn't as good" (I wonder if I'd have enjoyed that FF strip if I had read the first ones first). Of course, there's other things that prevent me from liking it, but there I go and do what I said I wouldn't do.

And one more thing... not really

Edit: I guess calling me bitchy was what passed for a clever "shut me up" last word.

Personally I like EZ Company. It's a look at what else Brian can do, as far as comics go at least. Whoever make the Eek! The Cat analogy was right though; try to do too much at once, and everything suffers. Randy Milholland, who writes and hand-draws Something Positive, New Gold Drem, AND Midnight Macabre only updates S*P regularly. All three are really good, but since he started NGD and MM, late and missed updates seem more frequent for S*P, and the other two are rarely updated. I admire his ambition, but I think he might be trying to do more than he can handle.

Anyway. To reiterate, I like EZ Company, and I'd like to see it continued. An update every other week sounds good to me, because I like 8-BT or "The Finasl Fantasy-based comic" or whatefer you want to call it, and I'd hate to see it languish because Brian is more focused on EZC or something (or for any reason, actually. It's about half over and it would really suck if something happened now. You can't stop a story right in the middle, and if it goes on hiatus too often or for too long, people lose interest).

So to sum up, EZC = good and would be a nice distraction now and then, but 8BT = better.
