Hello the peoples of the world!

You know what really(notice the angry red face instead of the green, happy one I usually use) angers me?(besides a world w/o pizza sticks' marinara sauce)
People who go online or split-screen with modified XBoxs and PS2s, and use their mods to cheat horribly!
Even if they don't mod' their 'Box, whenever I start to gain the upper hand, they do what is commonly reffered to as "screen-cheating"(looking at opponents screen to find where they are, what weapons, ect.)(Note: I don't play online[at my house] because monthly fees scare me away)Then, because I refuse to cheat, they win, and clain that they have better skills than me. When I tell them that they only won 'cause they cheated, they claim"well, if you'd cheat, you might get some kills"! ARGGGGGGG!!!!!!!
This epidemic(at my school's VG club) has cost me plenty of games I could have won, even considering how bad I am at games like Halo 2(I'm getting better, though). All because I refuse to cheat, I'm considered the "worst" player at school.*sigh*Does anyone know what I'm talking about, or am I the only one who suffers?

This is the problem with the concept of split-screen multiplay, but until they start using VR helmets, there isn't much you can do about it, is there?

Looking at your opponent's screen isn't cheating because he's not doing anything that you can't. The screen is there and he can see it, so he uses it. You don't think it's fair that he looks, but you made the choice to not look at his screen. Unless you have the club put up a rule against looking at the other screen, there's not really much you can do.

If you can afford it/swing it, try using networked XBoxes/PS2s and multiple TVs.

I haven't done this (note) but I'm assuming it's like what happens at a LAN party. Everyone has their own screen, thereby eliminating screen-looking.

Or, for that matter, just have a LAN party.

I don't understand what the big deal is. If you plan to put 2,3,or 4 people on one screen, how are you not going to screen peak? It's called peripheral vision. Anyone who says they don't screen peak are lying. There are different levels of screen peaking, and those who deny looking still see the other screens out of the corner of their eyes (even if it is subconsciously).

Like it was suggested, if you or anyone else has a problem with it (and I understand if you do), get multiple tvs and start lanning. The average household does have more than 1 TV nowadays.

Well, actually, I get tunnel vision when playing games. Which means I block out everything except the part I need to play. Meaning the other person's screen is lost to me unless I make an effort to look at it.

Which, of course, I do. As a sorta unwritten rule amoung my friends, its okay to look at the other screen as long as you don't get caught. And they only way you could get caught is if you just make it completely obvious... so... yeah....

Ehh...just because you look on the other person's screen doesn't mean you can kill them, unless you're one of those people who like to sit around just sniping people. Generally, in split screen play, there's usually a radar anyway, so I'm never really interested in the other person's screen.

Besides, my friends generally happen to be a rocket whores. I don't need to look on their screen to know that. :D

Hey, just because you don't enjoy explosive surprises doesn't mean you need to rat on me about it XP

Darth was right though, if you network multiple XBoxes together on different TV's (in different rooms, if you need to), you shouldn't have that problem. Even better, make everyone on one TV be on the same team, that way peeking at somoneone else's screen will be better tolerated and encourage teamwork.

And if you have an XBox and hi-speed internet, it's totally worth the $50 for a year's subscription card. If you calculate it, it turns out to be less than five bucks per month, more than two-thirds less than World of Warcraft's monthly fee. Very good value, indeed...

What I hate more? How about all of those 'slight mods' on Halo 2?

You know? The ones where they make it so their sheilds are just a little bit tougher, or their punches do more damage, or they move a little faster? Just enough to not notice?

That irritates me because now I can't tell when I was pwnd and when I was h4x3d.

Although the speedbots in HAlo 2 are just fucked up.

Screen peeking isn't that big of a deal. It gives you a relative location of where they are, so you're not running around with your eyes gouged out trying to find them, and they can't hide in an invicible spot, as i've seen many Halo 2 players do.

It's not too messed up.

Dude, FPS is all about the communism. What's mine is yours and yours is mine. Meaning my screen is to show how I'm whooping your @$$. You don't like communism? *shrug*

Ok. *smiles* More kills for me. Capitalist pigs! I will show you the true power of the [insert gun name from FPS]!

Haha--although this ain't true with computer FPSes.

Console FPSes still fail to impress me in that respect because they haven't solved the split-screen model. It's hard because of what a console is. But I still think it needs to be changed. Maybe every TV should be a back-to-back giant DS. Jeebus.

Around these parts, abundant screen-watching is punishable by a severe ganging-up-on. That, and the simple but effective "hold a piece of paper in front of the offender's screen randomly" treatment. Having a small LAN with all the people on one team on the same TV usually solves screen-watching also, just make sure that the TVs are facing opposite directions.

Mirai, I know exactly what you're talking about. That stuff anoys the hell out of me. I swear, I've seen so many reloading mods, it's just discusting. The punching mods seem to be really common place too. Especially the ones that let you lunge farther with the punch. Some people just don't care for fair play.

haha, if you think screen-looking is cheating, just play some halo 2 online. youre bound to play against SOME cheaters.

ive seen some crazy hacks and mods in halo 2. there was this one game where a guy was able to make a banshe shoot out wraith bombs extremely fast. then, there are flying warthogs, super speed, and superjumps that can be accomplished just by doing a regular jump. also, dont forget the battle rifles that shoot sniper bullets.

also, i really dont think screen looking is cheating. its so simple to do. if they can do it, so can you. also, it doesnt ALWAYS help you out.

Well i hafta admit that screen looking ticks me off as well,
But as for those that say that you should do it as well.
Anyone can buy a modem with a standby button on it its still cheating.

Dual screens and looking. Cheating, or just using your resources? question that's been around since before Mario-Kart (http://www.planetnintendo.com/mariokart/smk/images/SNMarioKart.jpg).

I myself don't believe it is cheating, it is just playing off the other guy's sense of honor. To put it in perspective, I direct you to the article PLAYING TO WIN.
Playing to win is playing within the boundaries of the game, not the boundaries of an unspoken honor code.

Personaly, I try not to look at the opposing screen no matter what the game is, BUT I will look if I believe it will make the difference in a game that seems neck-and-neck.
i.e.- If I'm winning a lot, I don't want to beat them that badly. If losing horribly, why not cut loose and have fun? If very close (Halo 23-24) I will take glances and expect my opponent(s) to do the same.

Real Cheating is using either built-in or outside influences on the game to gain an advantage which can in no way be balanced using the game mechanics. Being "owned" by player with the Sniper Rifle and a lot of skill is VERY different from playing against a guy that makes his Sniper Rifle bullets hit like rockets.

it's not justa sniping problem, it's w/ tanks ,too*ARRRGGGGGG*
I sneak up behind them(crouch-walk)and they see my screen, turn around and blast me 8-weeks from tomrrow before you can say "The password is swordity"

That's why you include their ability to see you in your tactics. Most of the time I will look at the ground when I am sneaking and only look up every once in a while to find my mark, unless I see soe one coming up on me from their screen, then I just run and cry like a baby.

With the group of people I played Halo with, watching other peoples' screens was referred to as "Bitch-watching". We solved the problem by everyone laughing and making fun of the bitch-watcher. Peer pressure them until they no longer bitch-watch. If that doesn't work, we were the types of players that would claim we could kick you in your [expletive] every time we caught you bitch-watching. I like saying "bitch-watching"
