View Full Version : So you wanted a wierd RP?

You got a wierd RP. Although this concept is explained, the crap that can and will happen will be like FLCL on acid.
Many decades ago certain humans began to show signs of what became known as psychometaphysical manifestation syndrome. Which is basically the ability to warp reality with the power of ones mind. Psy-man users, as they have become known as, once were the scurge of existance. With their powers they created pure chaos. To once again bring order to this world they created huge towers that nulified these powers.
Some users chose to stay within the cities and live normal lives, while others went into the waste lands and used their powers to survive. The nulifier has recently been reduced to a portable form which is used in transports and weaponry to prevent users from using their abilities on them.
(I am explaining how this power works through a demo)
Two Psy-man users leave the protective area of the nulifier to do battle.
"So whats your area? Mine is 20 feet."
"23 for me"
**Area is used to describe the area of affect. They cannont alter anything outside of this radius. Also anything that exits this area that was altered will return to normal. However if it enters an area of another user before it hits regular space it will remain altered.**
One of the two pulled out a strand of hair and it suddenly became a whip
"I believe that is a 3 degree transformation. I can do that." The other took the toothpick out of his mouth and it became a sword.
**Users cannot just create things, they need a base object to alter. This process follows thought processes through a chaining method. So string becomes rope, becomes leather rope, becomes whip, then can become energy whip. Degrees is how far you can take an object. The less like the end result, the more degrees you must go through. So making a wooden sword into a real one is easy, but making a pen into one is harder**
The one with the sword altered his further transforming it into a rifle. After firing the other managed to dodge but hit a pentent around his neck shattering it. "My focus!"
**Focus is what ties the user to reality. It cannot be altered or leave the area of affect, nor can it be destroyed. Since the focus is what keeps them in reality you would assume they would cease to exist. But the brain has a natural failsafe. If the focus is destroyed then their powers vanish. It is their proverbial achilles' heel.**
-------------------------------------
Ok abit more rushed then I expected but I think you get how these powers work. So you know powers are found withing less then .01% of the population. Also in case you didn't figure it out all weapons have nulifiers in them to prevent users from creating doomsday weapons.

Um, a few questions: Can we create energy? Can we alter causality? can we make twenty feet mean forty feet, for instance? Why are we bound by arbitrary limits. Mental block, perhaps? Can we slow time down? Create Life? How come it was so easy for that guy to make a rifle with complex mechanisms? Why can't we use air to make stuff? Why would anyone keep their focus so exposed, I'd keep it in a lock box, myself... What happens when areas overlap? Since this are relates to our location, can't we godmod in respects to mobility without any restriction? Does our focus have to be a pennant?
Anyway...
Name: Quincy Spoon
Age: Between mid thirties and mid forties
Gender: Male
Appearance: Spoon is a lanky man with large feet and hands. His face seems almost stretchy, especially his protruding nose. Although he looks somewhat worn he perpetually smiles somewhat mischievously. His clothing is worn and mismatched, taken from various dumpsters and charity bins, although he is in fact quite wealthy. He rarely spends any money, in fact. While Spoon is exercising his powers, he tends to try different appearances each time.
Bio: Spoon was found in his late teens by a janitor naked on the top of a skyscraper mutter ing incoherently. When asked about it later the janitor, now elderly recalled a few phrases. "Windmills" was repeated often as was "Cognito ergo sum: and "Ford. You're tuning into a penguin, stop it." After proclaiming himself the entire universe, Spoon attempted to leap off of the skyscraper. The Janitor, Colin Spoon, caught him. Colin brought an unconscious Spoon to his home where he fed and nurtured him. Colin called him Quincy, after his father, and adopted him as a son. Spoon rarely talked coherently, but when he did it was with the vernacular of a child. However, it was evident that the paternal relationship was mutual. Quincy often made outrageous claims like that a door tried to eat him, or that he invented trees. Colin dismissed these until once Quincy angrily beat Colin for not believing him. Quincy was then institutionalized in a ward that Colin's more well-to-do cousin, Renée ran. Renée took a special interest in Quincy, and became like an uncle to him. It was eventually determined that Spoon could use Psy-man and that he was abandoned at a young age, where his powers confused him. When he was asked if he understood and had given up his delusions of godhood, he cryptically "Yes, I am a Psy-man user." This was enough to satisfy the board however, and he was deemed safe to be reentered into society. During the two and a half years that Quincy was in the ward, Colin had become an electrical engineer of some success, and married a client, Elle. Elle was pregnant and soon gave birth to Quincy's sister, Kate. Quincy lived with them as Colin's apprentice for some years until colin suffered a heart attack. Soon after, René also died, childless, and leaving his respectable fortune to Quincy. Quincy left the city to explore his abilities. He remains in close contact with his step-mother and now teenaged sister, though, calling them every week on the dot. He prefers to be called Spoon.
Main Weapon: Spoon rarely fights and consequently carries no real weapon. HE has a walking stick that does fine in a pinch, however, as well as some other odds and ends.

you have limitations because these powers are controlled by your mind. You wouldn't look at a CD and think, Hamster. Why? Because a hamster and a CD have nothing in common. However your brain naturally connects simularities. Thats why your mind wanders.
You can create and destroy energy but not alter it. You need something tangible, same reason you cant alter air. You also cannot alter the four dimensions because your brain can't comprehend anything else. So you cannot alter time or spacial dimensions.
He could make a rifle out of a sword because it has simularities. What he really did was make it so the sword opened up into a gun. Complexity has nothing to do with this. For example you can make a toy car into a real one in only one or two steps. its your reality you dont need to know how it works to make it, it just will
You can keep your focus locked up, but carrying a huge box is abit obvious. Your focus must be on you if you want to use your powers. It can be anything, but it can never be altered. If its a watch for example, it will always be a watch.
When areas intersect the alterations are both in affect. Fields are simpley the area where your powers work. Your powers will work in any area, be it yours or someone elses.
Finally you can have great mobility if you have a reason for it. You need something that can do that in order to. You warp matter and the laws of physics but you are still a human. You cant just will gravity to not affect you. You can however create an device that will.

Bio: Ayoung man whose abilities manifested early, Harry lives outside the nullifier field with a number of young children whose parents were Psy-man users and could nto care for their children. harry's orphanage has been attacked many times by Psy-man users who had become desperate for food or money or something else they felt obligated to sieze. Harry has driven away all atttackers, however, and is well known in the region for his skills.

One question, is this based at all on S-cry-ed? It seems sorta reminiscent.

You also cannot alter the four dimensions because your brain can't comprehend anything else. So you cannot alter time or spacial dimensions.
Does that mean that someone with no concept of reality whatsoever ... say, a person who was rendered comatose at birth could hold godlike powers, manifesting they're unbound dreams? neat.
I was thinking along those lines with my character, but no fears, i detest godmodding. I just figure a quietly insane individual might have some interesting insight into their abilities.

Name: Lance Terris
Age: 25
Gender: Male
Appearance: Outside of battle, he wears a samurai outfit (like Kenshin's or Jin's) that all black with a silver belt. He also wears a silver headband to keep his long hair out of his eyes. During battle, he changes his outfit to red and black samurai armor.
Bio: Lance was orphaned as a child, but was adopted by an old Japanese couple. This couple practiced the ancient Japanese sword forms, which they passed down to Lance before they died. He took over their dojo, but it was shut down and taken over by a street gang. It was then he found out that he was a Psy-man user. His sword got larger and began glowing with a red energy. His clothing morphed to armor, and he began to fight off the gang, but the overwhelming numbers overcame him. He was thrown out on the streets to fend for himself and train his newfound power. He spent five years training his powers and now can alter many things.
Main weapon: A no-dachi in normal form. In ultimate form, it's a zanbatou that glows with a red energy; it can cut through almost anything.
Area: 15 feet
Degrees: 5
So my focus can be anything, eh? In that case, I make it tmy blood. Even if I loose blood, blood still recreates itself, so I have near-unlimited focus. My brain right now can comprehend some concepts of air though. Two oxygen atoms bonded together (with traces of carbon monoxide and various other chemicals) makes up most breathable air. Does this mean that I can split, reform, and control the oxygen atoms? Can I split other chemicals that I understand? Can I pull water vapour ot of the air and turn it to ice? Would I be able to take the carbon monoxide that I breath out, split it, then reform the atoms into carbon dioxide and shoot that at my enemies?

a comatose person has no sentient thought so they cant use their powers. Besides your dreams are limited to your grasp of reality. For example a person that was born blind cant see things in their dreams. Same reason you cant manipulate the air. Fact is you are not really aware of the air around you. You cannot see it and unless there is a breeze you cant feel or hear it. You dont relize your body is under constant pressure or that every move you make is being slowed by friction. Here is a simple rule, if you cant touch it you cant control it.
Just because your insane doesn't mean your stronger, in fact it makes you weaker because your thought processes deteriarate. Reality is reality reguardless of how a single person views it. Since your insane you would have trouble realizing what something is thus its harder to alter.
You guys have to tell me your focus, it cant be organic either. True your blood is constantly being produced but thats because your constantly loosing it. Remember your focus cannot be altered. That means it must remain the same, but your blood is constantly changing. Within a few months there would be no trace of your focus because all those blood cells would have died out.

I'm kinda interested in joining, but I have a few questions.
1. Is there a specific Area : Degree ratio I can use to figure out my character, or should I just figure something out that seems to fit.
2. Is there a scale you can give us to figure out how many degrees something requires to change?
3. Is hot and cold manipulatable? As in the air feels cold, so you manipulate it to make ice blades rain in your area.
4. Now does Area mean a set area in a fight or just the area around you?
5. My last question, can you make a nullifier with your alter power?

1) I can give you a general idea. 20ft is about that of someone with 4 or 5 degrees. Thats average since most focus on degrees rather then area. If you only have one or two degrees you can extend it hundreds of feet.
2) Its an honor system. Think in your mind how you get from one thing to another. basic rule of thumb, normal items to conventional weapons is 3 degrees.
3)No, because thats thermal energy. You can however create things that can alter tempurature.
4) Area is a radius around you.
5) you cannot nulify nor counter act another.

name: Ambika Maida
age: 15
gender: female
appearance: Black hair that reaches to her waist, rarely ever pulled up. She has stunning emerald color eyes that stick out a bit among her dark clothing and hair. Her normal attire consits of black shorts and a black tank top, so she can move without difficulty if she needs to.
Bio: Ambika lives in the same orphanage as Harry, though she tends to stick to herself and is always seen outside, staring into nothingness as she thinks to herself. Unlike Harry, Ambika didn't fight off the Psy-man users who had attacked the orphanage, not unless they tried anything to hurt her. She doesn't care much for the orphanage or the people inside it, being that she had a terrible experience with people while she was younger.
main weapon: dual wrist blades
area: 20 ft.

Reality is reality reguardless of how a single person views it.
That is debatable, and these powers bring it even more into question. That's why I thought this was cool in the first place.

Ok its up and sign-ups are still open. However there are still a few problems. Namely with focus. Everyone needs to name one. Sprinkle_Death's is not ok. It cannot be anything organic. Fix these things and you can join up.

Q: Can a psy-man user modify living things? whip is to snake for example, can they alter their own body and if so could they stop themselves aging normally?
name: The Sculptor
age: 84
gender: male
appearance:
A stooped figure, a ragged cloak normally drawn tightly around him. An old fedora, the same uniform black as most of his clothing. Only when he moves fast - uncharacteristic out of combat, do people catch a flash of the killer instinct in the old weary eyes or the brilliant red lining of the many pocketed cloak. It is in one of those pockets that his focus - a flawless emerald, is stored.
Bio: Much of the Sculptor's life is a mystery, he is fond of saying that, like a butterfly, he shed his old mundane husk to become something vibrant and brilliant. For many years he has been a member of an underground psy-man fighting ring, losing a duel only once. He possesses an almost legendary shaping ability - albiet one confined to his immediate area.
Main Weapon: Stilettos and throwing needles.
area: 4ft
degrees: 7 (if this is too high I can change it)

your focus cannot be your main weapon because you cannot alter your focus.
Depends on the life form. This is a psychic ability so the thought processes of living things dampen your powers. So no, unless its something like a well trained animal, then I suppose I can allow it.
You can alter yourself but its very advanced. If you want something like that you need to lower your degrees. Also anything you do to your body will vanish when your area does. Psy-man users have to be consiously keep the area open. A nulifier will also shut one down. One last thing, you know with only a 4ft area (only reason I would allow you to have 7 degrees) your attacks are strictly close range. If your altered weapon leaves that boundry then it will revert to normal (assuming another area doesn't overlap it).

Name:Ivanovich
Age: 24
Gender: Male
Appearance: Approximately 6'7", 276 lbs, albino. Wears combat boots, heavy black duster with hood, black clothing
Bio: Ivanovich was born in a small village in Siberia. Viewed as a child of Satan by everyone in his village for his albinoism, he was ostracized further when a doctor took blood, and discovered that Ivanovich had psychometaphysical manifestation syndrome (and am I the only person who realized that a possible abbreviation of that is PMS?). After being literally chased out of town at fourteen, Ivanovich disappeared into the wilds of Eurasia for ten years, resurfacing in wherever we start, massively schizophrenic, his sense of reality is not altered, however, his sense of self is horribly askew, making himself see four very different faces when he looks in the mirror (almost like that guy on Me, Myself, and Irene, his personalities act very differently from one another, except there's four of them).
Main weapon: an eight foot bamboo pole normally, ultimate grows into a scythe
Area: 24 ft.
Degrees: 5
Focus: a rock in his left boot (oh, yeah!)

He is very knowledgable of atoms on a subatomic level, and the lab he was in was succeseful on more than one occasion in making new elements. right right, who would have guessed having mental cohesion would help you with your psychis abilities. Of course in a mental duel the genius would lose to the guy unable to make toast

There's a difference between mental cohesion and a grasp on reality The reason I was interested in this is that argument that trumps descartes is that there are things no one ever seems to be able to change, but here you can. Which calls into question what reality is...
It was philosophically interesting.

reguardless of how sane a person is they still have a human mind that is forced to obey certain rules. Only differance is that an insane person receives stimuli that is not actually real (ie hearing/seeing things that aren't there). This is a weakness because they must know what something is to alter it.
Hmm now that I think about it being insane wouldn't cause a problem because mentally ill people rarely pervert reality. Only someone that suffers from hillucinations would be weaker since, as I said, they dont know what something actually is. You cant alter what isn't there
