This may be a little random for the discussion board, but i have an idea.
Nuclear Hand Grenades.
I will use a highly unstable compound, thats halflife is like seconds, will be the core of the nuke. And using the magic technology of today, we will keep that compound in a stasis, untill it is ready for detonation. And once it detonates, the blast will only go so far before the element will turn to a non-radioactive element, and everone else will be safe out side of that range.
That is the basic idea, and I will expand on it soon.

And you can fertilize your lawn with it, right?
Unless you can provide some links explaining that kind of technology this is far from discussion material, at least according to that description. Please put some more thought into the location of topics.

well as i understand a nuclear reaction it works this way. A nulcear reaction works by utilizing a certain amount of mass of greater than the critical mass for a nuclear explotion. U235 (refined plutonium) is generaly the material used. The reaction starts and is maintained by a beta partical coliding with an atom of the U235 and causeing another 2 beta decay and an alpha decay, also the U becomes stable after this, but the reaction starts again in two other atoms of U235, casueing a snowballing effect with-in the mass. If there's not enough the reaction will stop before there's an explotion. So as far as it being posible to shrink down into a hand grenade, much less have an explosion that can actualy be run from, I'm not sure. Admitedly, I've been out of this for the past few years so I'm kinda rusty on what exactly happens in a nuclear reaction, but that is the gist.

Where have you been the last few years? The government already has this technology! They've been testing it on us for ages!
OH SHIT I TALKED ABOUT THE GOVERNMENT! NOOOOOOOOOOOO *Gets killed*
Okay, back on task...
I really don't think this is that far-fetched of an idea. Go look up the spec's for a nuclear powered submarine. The missile silos in those motherfuckers are so deadly its like having fifty "Fatman" bombs, each able to be fired at from anywhere in the world individually.

No, don't make it. The government already has enough nuclear weaponry as it is. A large battle would cause a rise in background radiation, which we don't need. Not to mention, whether they would even want it. Frag grenades are just as effective- not to mention, they allow those in cover to be safe. A nuclear reaction does not jettison reacting particles, it releases radiation. This is much more capable of cover penetration then fragments. If you want to research something, try alternate power. That's in high demand today.

the fact that [current Toyota hybrids] can run on electricity alone, with their gasoline engines off, offers the opportunity to provide them with more electricity and therefore drive further with the gasoline engine off.
Electricity can be provided from the electrical grid by charging an onboard battery, and depending on where that electricity comes from, it will have various emissions associated with it
10%–20% fuel efficiency improvement for the 270 watts of PV cost was about 600 us dollars, could add a 4th panel on the trunk
*edit: Now if i just had a nuclear gernade to strike fear in the gas guzzler driving next to me.

We could make them, but why?
I always thought the entire point of a nuclear device was to cause really BIG explosions. Now if you want our troops to become suicide bombers then sure why not develop them.
But another theory is landmines. Everybody already hates land mines why not just make them even more despicable by making a few nuclearpowered.

OVERKILL. Plus, you don't know when a mine is going to go off, so it could be just as some of your troops are moving through the area. Or they might get discovered, and extracted, giving your enemy a nuke.
Plus, if it comes down to that much firepower, everyones going to be shooting balistic missles anyways. Meaning: DOOM.

A half-life is a fixed amount of time. A Half-life is how much time it takes for half of the radioactivity in something to disappear, or something like that. Each time a half-life passes, half of the remaining radioactivity fades.
