ooc-Characters who'd been hiding I'm assuming somehow snuck aboard, those in captivity (Ripel, Solitary Confinement Cell, Blyr is in a cell with Chocobos) are still captive, and those on N'Revat's side is just...on. If there's anyone who wants to jump in (after signing up) this may be a good time to.
The airship had been repaired, and prisoners of any importance or use were forced to board. General Ciaran then loaded the vehicle with his best engineers, warriors, pilots and mages, sending the remaining troops to escort the other prisoners to POW camps.
Flying under the flag of Rab, Ciaran flew straight towards Rab's capitol, Fein, confident they wouldn't be found out. The lone airship may have been unusual, but he doubted that the enemy would be any suspicious.
Shortly after landing inside Fein the guard was dispatched to welcome to the evidently victorious Rab forces. Instead, they were the ones to be greeted. Ciaran's troops fired upon the guard, which was forced to retreat.
The N'Revat general then offered a ultimatum as his soldiers unloaded from the ship. "Surrender, or die in a fiery blaze." Simple, yes, but also to the point.
The answer came soon, and as expected Rab chose to resist. Quickly moving the N'Revat forces set fire to some of the surrounding buildings, to split Rab's attention and confuse the enemy. N'Revat may have been outnumbered this time, but they lacked the emotional connections that their enemy had to the city.
Plus, they had one secret weapon. Dezil had the set up most of the Magitek Armors with magic nullification fields and even a few with the new magic absorbtion field. With most of Fein's Guard being made up of Summoners and Mages it would pretty much be a one sided battle.

Arc looked out from a cubby hole in the airship. He had to choose NOW.
Either he disabled the N'Revat guns, and quite possibly get himself and Carolina killed, or make himself an improptu bodyguard for the white mages. A pair of throwing knives dropped into his hands.
He could see a specific hose on one of the airship's guns, and some on the few magiteks he could see. Those wouldn't be hard to cut...
By contradiction, the white mages were basically right in front of the ship entrance. They wouldn't be hard to reach and kill...

Due to his recent excellence in battle adn with his new anti-magic fields, he had been promoted to Commander of the Magitek Armor forces. He waved forward squads to head down streets, burning and blasting everything in their way. His personal squad were made up of the same men that had been his test pilots that day when they first battled the Rab, and he was proud of the fact that it was his new system that was leading them to victory over the Rab forces. He looked back at the airship, amazed even by himself for the job he did getting it running again in the time required, but he had done it. Now the N'Revat technalogical might was crushing the magical forces of the Rab armies, thanks to him. Today was a good day.
"Alright men, it's time we showed the Rab a thing or two about what the N'Revat can do. Form up on me and let's move out! We march for battle!" Soon the Magitek had reached full run and were charging through the burning streets to the front lines of combat as the N'Revat forces fought their way to the Capital Building.

Cecil was back on the airship (Where I think the white mages would be... Not sure if that's where SS meant), watching the battle from atop on the deck. Every now and then Cecil checked on the turrets and cannons of the airship, just to see how they were doing.

Ever since I was put into my cell I've been through hell. Silence, unable to hear or know what's happening in the outside world. Silent, unable to be heard, no way to let anyone know I was here. I couldn't stand being unable to do a single thing, except rest.
It was horrible...but now I had regained enough strength to break free.
Breathing heavily he stood, facing one of the walls as he cracked his knuckles. Focusing his strength into his left arm he mimicked an ogre's punch to break it down.
For the most part the ship was empty of the N'Revat, so when he made a new 'door' leading into the hallway beside his cell there were none to see him escape. Good thing too, he was in no shape to fight anyone.
Staggering into someone's quarter's he stole a uniform. It was little loose, but he didn't care, he just didn't want to be caught. At least he didn't happen upon a white mage's room.
Making sure his features were hidden under his costume, he started down the hall towards where the prisoners were being held.

"Apprentice Virgil" smiled as the master led them out in a fighting wedge. The hardest part was reining his power in so that he wouldn't stand out too much. As a result, most of the attack magics he used were weaker than those of his compatriots, earning him a few baleful stares, but thankfully not discovery.
The only problem is that they were being taken further and further away from the ship. 'Virgil" had briefly contemplated obliterating the vessel in mid-air, but had aborted the idea. If they activated their antimagic fields, they would all die together.
And Dante was no patriot, not a "I regret I have but one life to give" person. He was the kind of guy who would rather make the other guy die for his, rather than anything else.
A summoner flanked by a small squad of red wizards appeared before them. Instantly, the master wizard reduced the summoner to a pile of smoldering ash before he could compelte his invocation. The red mages must have been inexperienced and unskilled in war, because they actually attempted a melee counterattack.
Unfortunately, they forgot that the concept of "murder in melee" only applied if the assaulter in question actually survived the closing to melee.
The group of six apprentices were more than enough to overwhelm their puny defenses. Five men charged the hexagonal arrangement. Countless hunks of bloody meat decorated the streets seconds later. "Virgil" slaughtered them dispassionately. He wasn't being paid to keep them alive, after all.
The master ordered an advance. They were nearing the Capitol building.

(( My deal right now's that I can't really work in Naras..not in a military setting, I guess. I suppose I'm just waiting for a random small town somewhere to crop up so I can pop in, but that's starting to look like a long way off... ))

General Ciaran Atropos walked up to the deck of the ship with his hands crossed behind his back and a smirk on his face. This was the first time he had left the amenities of his personal quarters since he settled in at the outset of the trip to Fein, but, although he hated to leave the comfort of his room, he couldn't very well miss the battle. It would be irresponsible... besides, he loved the smell of blood and charred bodies.
He took a deep breath as he walked up next to Cecil, surveying the damage to the city. "Wonderful site, isn't it?"
(OOC: We are in the middle of a city... it wouldn't be a military setting really... just a war setting, because of Ciaran attacking it. He could be passing through Fein selling his potions or whatever when the N'Revat attacked.)

Due to the fact that I had been in solitary confinement there had been little need for me to be under guard. They had assumed that I was too weak to struggle or do anything anyway, they had underestimated me and that was their mistake.
However, the same could not be said for my fellow captives. They were (except for the General) still placed under a guard of a couple knights. Even should I be able to free them we would be absolutely mutilated once we reached outside.
"Rats..." He hadn't thought about what he would do once he got here, and Ripel had no method of fighting the knights, except a pair of unloaded guns that he had found in the quarters.
There was no way to deceive them either, he had heard of Ciaran and met him face to face, and he knew that the man wasn't stupid. He knew an important battle was going on, and he doubted that the general would not place only his best and most loyal troops on a ship with limited space.
With that in mind he guessed that trying to deceive that guard without any proof would only get him killed, and fighting them, even if he won, would result in an alarm possibly setting off.
He needed an idea, he needed help, but on this ship he doubted he could get any. All he could do was formulate a plan.
Damn...what can I possibly do?

Back at the cliff, in the end of the 2 chapter:
"Now all we have to do is get on board that ship, Luce, and we have won." Elyse said to Luce turning her face to him.
Then suddenly, someone grabbed them from behind and knocked them out. An hour later they awoke in a room, which was part of the ship. It was a servant room. And the door was locked.
They had food, water and a quite nice room with a double layered bunker though. An hour later, when they had gotten bored, Elyse stated to pick the lock. With no luck though and soon the ship landed next to the town of Fein.
And now Elyse successfully picked the lock. They were not wearing the uniforms. Now they had some totally new clothes, with no association to their own clothes. These were some ordinary peasant clothes.

"Ahh, finally feels good to walk around, and none of those anti-magic things around." Luce said, then saw two rifle toting guards coming around the corner. He held up his hand, unleashing two briliant focused beams of light at their eyes, blinding them. Elyse knocked them out, then they both took a rifle and walked away.

"Hey, how about we change sides. As I see It would be a lot better if we were on the winners side, yes?" Elyse asked Luce in midwalk. They were heading throwards the exit of the ship: "Think about it. Rab has lost a battle and with our tactics on the good side, well win!"

"Yes... Yes it is..." Cecil smirked as he watched the battle from the airship. The Rab were being slaughtered, which Cecil found amusing.
Turning around, Cecil started to head towards the inside of the ship. He called out to Ciaran as he went inside. "I'm going to go look around inside. Checking on the prisoners and what not." Before Cecil opened the door, he pulled out the anti-magic device Ciaran had given him. (I am thinking of this thing being either a ball or a staff...)
Cecil turned it on to a low power, so only sphere surrounded him. Not enough to alert his presence to early, but enough to prevent any spells from reaching him.

OOC: For a personal model, which Dezil would have been working on, I was thinking more along the line of backpack.
The advance was going well. With the Rab magicians neutralized when they encountered the Magitek, all they could do was retreat or die, and regular troops didn't stand a chance against Magitek anyway, especially the Magitek Dezil was always improving on and making superior, so even the Rab Magitek couldn't stand up to it. The only probelm was Magitek was big and heavy, and that limited the amount they could take aboard the Airship and still get on the troops necessary to take the capital, but it would still be enough.
An ambush came from the road they were heading down, with soldiers in all the surrounding buildings firing guns with normal ammo instead of Magitek guns, whose blasts were also negated by the field. Solid rounds pinged off of Dezil's Magitek Armor, and he immediatly ordered his squad to destroy the surrounding buildings. The retreated back the way they came, away from the ambushers buildings, then turned and opend fire with Magetek Missiles and Lasers. Soon the barrage turned the buildings and the troops inside to rubble, and the Magitek Armor continued it's advance, with the Capital Building visable in the distance, along with the heaviest fighting as the Rab threw absolutely everything they had to try and stop the smaller but better equipped N'Revat soldiers.

As Cecil walked through the ship, he spotted a Black Chocobo walking around. "Hm... That's strange..." Following it, he entered a room that the Chocobo had gone in. Soon after, sounds of a struggle came from the room, and Deamon walked out with Black, carrying his new, activated anti-magic backpack and long sword. "Neat stuff that guy had, eh?" The chocobo chirped as they walked around inside of the airship, looking for more people to jump.
Inside of the room, Cecil's mouth was gagged and he was tied to a large cabinet.

They had descended into the sewers now, following new intelligence of a secret passage into the Capitol Building. The master wizard wanted to be the one to report its capture to Rab. The new anti-mage Magiteks had made him quite nervous, and he wasn't sure he could handle that.
"My disciples, soon we shall capture their leader, and then we can force that General Atropos to recall his accursed new Magiteks. The Guild will surely appoint me Grand Master for this..."
"Virgil" had had enough. This old fool's ego was getting on his nerves. Without saying anything, he released a storm of air blades into the master's head, disintegrating it.
"That would be incumbent on your surviving the raid in the first place," he said to the headless corpse.
He turned to the apprentices, who were still stunend from the sudden death of their master.
"It's your turn."
They turned and ran through the filthy tunnels as one.
"Idiots." Dante thought as he made his way to the secret entrance, mentally composing his report to the Court. They would not be pleased.

Ciaran smirked a bit as he saw some more buildings crumble in the distance and decided that General Clique should see his city being destroyed. After all, Ciaran thought, these are his people being destroyed... and this strategy is thanks to his most gracious cooperation. Ciaran chuckled to himself as he left the deck to go and visit the dear General Clique.
As he walked through the halls, however, he heard some struggling coming from one of the rooms along the way, and decided to investigate. When Ciaran opened the door he saw Cecil tied to a cabinet and was quick to release him.
"Well... What happened to you?"
(OOC: If you meant for him to be unconcious I'll just edit this post before it goes anywhere... and have Ciaran notice the rather large hole where Ripel was suppose to be held instead. Which is what I was going to do before Cecil got tied up.)

Ciaran nodded at the response. "I see... well, perhaps you should go and alert the guards we have left on the ship that there's a prisoner with your sword and an anti-magic field running about?" Ciaran asked with just a hint of annoyance in his voice. He absolutely hated dealing with incompetence, and being knocked out by an unarmed prisoner was, so far as he was concerned, the epitomy of incompetance.
I suppose I shouldn't be surprised, Ciaran mused, he is the son of 6th General McDoul. I can't expect much coming from that lineage. General Atropos then turned from Cecil and headed into the hallway, stopping to speak over his shoulder at the door, "I suggest you tell the guards soon... I'll hold you responsible if that technology falls into enemy hands."

"All right, you know where to go." Deamon said, motioning Black to a large window in the airship. The bird chirped, then quickly bite down on the strap that fell from his mouth. Inside of it was the Anti-Magic device. Black flew off, high above the city. The soldiers manning the turrets saw the bird, but ignored it, since they had seen it wandering around the camp before the attack, they all assumed it was someone's Chocobo on their side.

A soldier actually thought to bar his passage as he emerged into the cellar from the sewer. The luckless soldier was tossed aside into a nearby wall, slumping to the ground from the impact.
"Out of my way, maggot," he said to nobody in particular as he began ascending the steps to the surface. He felt the palace rock as Magitek artillery bombarded it from all directions, and he shrugged.
It is a lost cause, after all.
He pushed open the cellar doors and headed for the main chamber.

As Ciaran had just exited the door to some room (?) Elyse and Luce walk out of a corridor that crossed with the corridor Ciaran was in.
"There he is." Elyse suddenly noted and walked up to Ciaran and hastly said "I'm here to see you on acount of wishing to switch sides.

Ciaran arched an eyebrow at the two ex-prisoners who ran up to him asking to 'switch sides'. He however, remained calm, and didn't allow his surprise at their escape, their audacity in walking right up to him and initiating conversation afterward, or their request to 'switch sides' beyond the initial arching of an eyebrow, however. His voice remained calm and cool as he spoke.
"Very well, a pair of ex-rab could be useful... but I'll need you to prove your loyalty to the cause... I was just going to see the prisoners. I want you to execute one of them which I will pick at random, they're all to die eventually anyway. Just walk infront of me..." He drew his blade and gestured them in walk before him with it. They may have been willing to switch sides, and he may have plans for them already brewing, but that didn't mean that Ciaran was going to give them a chance to shoot him in the back while they walked.

Ciaran opened the door to a random cell pointed to a random prisoner (OOC: One of the NPCs) in the garments of a private in the Rab magitek troops with the tip of his blade.
"Kill him."
At the command, the private backed up into the corner of the room and began to cry, begging for his life.
"P... please, don't kill me... I... I have a wife... and... we were saving.... saving ourselves for marriage... but... I... I was called away for war... b... before... I don't want to die a virgin!"
The man then broke down, just making pleading motions with his hands while crying pitifully.

The term "throne" was a throwback to ancient times when Rab had once been a monarchy. During the Kingswar almost half a century ago, after years of brutal internecine fighting and turmoil, the citizens of both countries simultaneously overthrew their tyrannical rulers and established new forms of government.
Unlike its autocratic neighbour, Rab chose a democracy, and for years, there was relative peace between the two nations.
But it is the quicksilver way of the world that nothing lasts forever, especially peace, which more often than not is a state of cold war. And now things had finally come to a head. Another cycle of bloody murder and suffering would reach its climax as it had fifty years ago.
As could be expected, the atmosphere inside the throne room was electric.
A large wall mosaic depicted troop movements with dots, Rab in blue, N'Revat in red. Rab forces were a hastily deployed sea of blue, but N'Revat's crimson wedge sliced through it like a katana through tatami. The crimson tide grew ever stronger as it sheared through the sorely outclassed Rab forces, a vermillion dagger slicing its way towards the heart of the country.
The court wizard's raven familiar chattered mindlessly about unstoppable Magiteks that outclassed their own. The raven had long since ceased to care, having delivered the same message a thousand times over from a thousand different dead men.
The wizard didn't care much either. He was trying to figure out this new adversary, and how to deal with it. But they had already lost too many men, and the survivors could not mount any meaningful resistance.
President Steven wasn't helping either, pacing around, muttering, "Ohmigod mohmigod, what are we going to do..." occasionally grabbing a minister and imploring for advice that was not his to give. Then he moved on and continued mumbling.
Pathetic, really, Dante thought as he pushed the doors of the throne open, trailing a line of halberd wielding ceremonial guardsmen. All were from the 8th Company of the Knights Dragoon, versed in the arts of the polearm and magic. Yet in the face of N'Revat's offensive, they might have well been children armed with pitchforks.
The wizard's face lit up immediately as he saw Dante enter.
"Wizard! Where have you been? We-"
"I had a ruse to maintain. Coming back unnoticed was not as easy as you might have thought. I am a combatant, not an infilrator."

This guy is even crueler than I thought...and we have deserters, now? Just my luck. Blyr peeked through a window in his cell to see what was happening in the adjacent one. He observed one of his comrades quivering in fear.
I can't exactly hear very well, but it looks like they're going to kill him. I remember him: he was going to get married soon. Poor guy...I wish I could save him...but my sword is locked up somewhere, and I'm being guarded by some of N'revat's best soldiers. I guess there's only one thing I can really do now...
He went up to his loyal green chocobo and whispered something in his ear, about a plan he was hatching. Then, he started meditating like before...

Those rats.
After unable to think up a plan Ripel had been forced to stand by and merely watch what would happen. He was just one person, and before he couldn't hope to overpower the guards, and now officers had shown up.
What infuriated him was that two of the officers were originally from his side, and one of them just shot a mere private in the head. In cold blood as well.
The worst part was that he could only stand by and watch. All of them could give him a good ass kicking, he couldn't win.
Hell, he was lucky that he hadn't been discovered yet.

The wizard ushered Dante over to a table off to the side, stacked with piles of untouched food. Nobody had been in much of a mood to eat of late, and certainly not since the attack had started. Dante, however, grabbed a large piece of meat and started chewing on it. As he did, the court wizard starting talking in that annoying rapid-fire voice of his again.
"We've had many reports of new N'Revat Magiteks with performance superior to our own and to top it off they're apparently immune to magic as well, generating some kind of field similar to a Wall spell except that it doesn't block magic but negates it. We lost a lot of summoners when they were caught in the field and couldn't call out their totema as well as their red mage escorts. All our magic attacks all the way up to Flare and Break have proven useless - completely disappearing at the perimeter of the effect. Surely you've survived them, right, Dante? Surely you can help us, right?"
God, but this old man is getting on my nerves... And only one person was allowed to call me by that name...
"First things first, it's not Dante. To you, it's Uphirion."
He took another bite out of the meat and continued.
"Secondly, what kind of idiots are you and your men? Attacking a magic-immune foe head-on... with magic? My god, if stupidity were worth money you could buy your way out of this mess!"
Beside him, a guard started.
"How dare you, you... villainous scum! How dare you talk to Master Cornelius that way! We didn't see you defending the city! How dare you-"
"Shut up, fodder. I'm not a bloody lemming like the rest of you - I have something better to do with my life besides throw it away for a country populated by suicidal morons. That's always your bloody solution to everything - if you can't solve it, throw more lives at it until the problem goes away. Bullshit. "
He turned back to Cornelius, still chewing on his roast.
"You should have evacuated your men and used your knowledge of the terrain to your advantage instead of engaging them in the terrain they like, exposed on the streets within range of their guns. I saw companies of lives thrown away for no good reason, all because your worthless commanders felt that a "last stand" was called for rather than a tactical retreat."
"But they were more powerful-"
"Exactly what I'm saying! One-on-one they can destroy you, and without your magic, they don't need even odds. You've been too reliant on magic, and when someone decides to nullify it, you're all just standing around, pants around your ankles, ready to take it. And you still think face-to-face combat is a viable option. God."
"What you should have done was fight guerrilla style. Trap them. Herd them. Move your soft spots out of the way and let them abtter their heads against hardpoints. Begin by getting the Senate out of this building... right fricking now! They're coming for you! MOVE!"

Ciaran then turned to one of the few guards stationed about the hallway and pointed to the, now unoccupied, cell and sheathed his sword. "Clean this up, and make it suitable for a new prisoner."
The guard saluted and left to retrieve a cleaning crew and after a moment Ciaran turned back to Luce and Elyse. "Is there a reason you haven't left yet?"

Dezil's Magitek's were a key part of the battle for the Senate Building. They struck with a fury that a hundred footsoldiers couldn't match. He ordered four of his guards to go and help all along the line to help the troops break through, and left his remaining wingman and himself to charge the main gates. They broke through the Rab lines easily, slashing with the massive arm blades and blasting with lasers any that tried to stop them, and soon they charged straight through the Senate buildings main doors. The two Magitkes stood there for a second, in awe of the splendor of the Rab Senate's Main Hall. Soon the Rab Royal Guardsmen formed up and charged though, so Dezil and his guard were distracted away again as they massacred the guardsmen.

With a smirk, Deamon took his papers and got into the gunner seat of the turret, then started to wait.

01-07-2004, 07:34 PM
OOC: 180 degrees is basically 360 degrees, but only one side at a time... It seems easier to build it as 360, and what if an enemy is on the deck, would you not want turrets able to shot on the deck?
Forever Zero
01-07-2004, 07:40 PM
OOC: 180 degrees means that it could only fire outward, not inward. And if enemies got on deck you would use soldiers to force them off since you would be just as likely to blast the ship or your allies if you fire a heavy weapon at invaders. It would be like using a hammer to smash a fly that is on glass, you'll obliterate the important things to get a minor thing. This makes me wonder, what do the cannons shoot if they are turrets? There aren't any gatling gun type weapons yet (Although Dezil will get right on it!), and a rotating cannon turret doesn't sound overly useful...

OOC: Cause Magitek relies on magic, which no one fully understands anyway, they just know how to harness it. I don't know, if there were gatling guns, wouldn't they be used on the field of battle rendering footsoldiers useless and bringing about an age of WWI style battle to the FF universe? (That is the most bizarre idea I ever thought of...) Gatling guns just seem to be too big a weapon concept to leave out. And now I'm interested to see what you idea is...

(OOC: How about this... the cannons are magitek cannons that fire tek lasers? That sound good to everyone? Reason they aren't used in normal combat is because you'd need a magitek engine to run them, so they're only practical on magitek armor. How's that? As for if they spin 180 or 360... someone flip a coin. If he does start blasting the ship, I already have a way to take care of it, besides, I doubt he'd do that, if his spins 360, so does every other turret on the deck, and he'd be outnumbered... and unable to dodge so long as he was using the cannons. So... doesn't really matter.

That's what I was thinking, actually... he got conscripted and then got married right before they sent him off to war so he uh... saved himself, but didn't get any. Probably better for him, I bet his wife is at home with the milkman who is so 'understanding' of her plight over her husband.

After demolishing the first wave of guards, Dezil and his guard looked about, and relized the only flaw in Magitek... little is built to fit the massive frame. They didn't want to leave the armor, but the only place with doors large enough to fit the massive armor was straight ahead at the end of the hall, so they headed that way.

To make a mistake would get his friends hurt. To not move at all would likely get them all killed. It wasn't that hard of a choice.
He put the guards to sleep. No, he didn't kill them, he simply used an old technique he learned from one of those flying eyeballs. Ineffective during group combat, but when you're trying to not attact attention a simple and quick trick like this would work.
Granted, (assuming they are still here) he couldn't use it against those traitors. Originally from Rab, they would probably be able to resist long enough to know that something was wrong.
Still, when noone was looking, he managed to take the key from one of the guards, and as soon as the coast was clear he planned to unlock the cells and free his friends.
Problem was, he didn't know when the traitors would leave nor when the cleaning crew would arrive and/or finish.

OOC: Well, you guys can pretty much guess what's going to happen...
The hall was silent. Everyone seemed stunned by Dante's sudden outburst. It was President Steven who broke the silence first.
"Leave? But that would connote a tacit acceptance of their aggression! Worse still, it would send a message to our people that-"
"You still don't get it, do you? You have lost. There is no practical way for you to resist N'Revat. From that flashy wallmap over there, it's plainly obvious that you've lost your elite caster units to Magitek assaults. All that's left are your Dragoons and the court wizards. And neither of these are going to be of any use in actual combat."
He tossed aside the half-eaten haunch of meat and wiped his fingers clean on a nearby curtain.
"My suggestion? Run. Run as far as you can. Try to start a resistance movement if you want, and loot the treasury while you're at it - nobody's going to care. Flee for your lives, because by all accounts N'Revat isn't going to give you a clean death. You cannot win this fight, not with me, not unless you had known what to expect from the beginning. I told you about the new 'Teks, Cornelius. What did you do with the report?"
"I...I... I must have misplaced it..."
Dante turned on the man, face livid with a mixture of rage and disbelief.
"WHAT? You send me into enemy territory to try to free your men and gather information and you lose my report? What the hell are you trying to do here, Cornelius? No bloody wonder your damn country is screwed! Just give me my fee and get the hell out of here! That's the only advice I'm going to give you
for now."
Steven was livid with rage. How dare this... this... mercenary traipse into his parliament and tell him to run like a common coward?
"You scoundrel! *I* ordered the report destroyed! You don't have to lie, Cornelius - I never trusted him from the beginning! Magic-resistant Magiteks... Just another problem only *you* could have solved, most likely, to milk more fees from us! Guards! Arrest this man!"
He immediately felt his personal barrier dissipating as the magic-disrupting defenses of the great hall were trained on him. Incredulous, Dante could only stare as the Dragoons began surrounding him.
"WHAT? You have GOT to be kidding me!"

Dezil and his guard continued to smash their way thorugh everything thrown at them. Without even the builddings for the sneak attack that had succeeded in killing some Magitek drivers, it became a slaughter as wave after wave of royal guards charged the Magiteks, futilily trying to stop the inevitable. Dezil and his guard had simply continued down the hall, not being able to go anywhere else in his armor, and knowing he might be overwhelmed without it by numbers. Soon they came to tha largest and fanciest door yet, and knew this would be something important, either the king's throne room, or the senate chamber. With a mighty punch, Dezil reduced the door to splinters and said, "Residents of the Kingdom of Rab, surrender or die to the Empire of N'Revat!"

"Hah! Where's your arrogance now, mercenary? We can negate magic too! Throw him into the dungeon - He can feel sorry for his betrayal - "
Sorry. That word, and the other - betrayal - brought back so many memories, so much pain... so much hatred. Rage filled him, along with the spite and malice he had always had for this nation of incompetents. Their stupidity, their elitism...
Their betrayal.
"Shut up."
Danet could not have silenced Steven better if he had hit the president between the eyes with a hammer. Where Dante had been merely disdainful, now he was deadly serious. Even his voice had changed, as though it wasn't him speaking, but... something else using him as a mouthpiece. The dragoons holding him let go, dropping his arms like a hot coal. Though he felt the magic-jammers increase their output, the power was flowing into him again, not from outside... but from within.
"You must learn the price for trifling with one of the Forsaken, worm."
"W-What's-"
"Don't speak. Just die."
Dante's eyes glowed a hellish red, as though there was a beacon from the underworld inside them. The baleful light illuminated President Steven, who was even then still gasping like a fish, trying to stammer out a reply he would never get to make. Steven's skin blistered, charred, then caught fire along with the rest of his clothes, turning him into an ambulatory torch. Dante watched, dispassionately, for a few moments while the luckless man burned, then with a flick fo the wrist, he dismembered the flaming corpse. He didn't see the dragoons coming, but he sensed them nonetheless.
"Anathema! Die!"
As one, they struck, lances sizzling with electrical power. A hand shrouded in a crimson aura casually caught all three of them tossing them aside and leaving the dragoons wide open. The next moment, they were thrown back as strips of shredded meat and armor shards, to impact wetly onto a nearby wall. Before anyone else could react, Dante was already summoning up a ball of crackling power above his head. Cornelius thought to flee, as did some of the minsters, but they found to their horror that invisible forcefields barred their escape.
"There is nothing more to be said. You will all die here."
Saying so, the globe burst. Streaks of seeking lightning surged forth from the corpse of the sphere, electric dragons seeking their prey, finding it as they earthed themselves in the bodies of all those in the room. Blood boiled, flesh fried, clothes combusted as the homing lightning bolts devastated the throne chamber. The air was fileld with cries of agony and the harsh crackling of the living lightning as it sought more flesh to slay.
Yes! Die! Die screaming in terror, you worthless maggots! Suffer, fools, SUFFER!
No! You will not control me. My body is mine and mine alone. Get out!
You cannot deny it. In the deepest part of your soul, where even you dare not look... you *liked* it. Accept it... Surrender like you have in the past... release me...
Never! I am who I am, not your slave, nor anybody else's! Get out! GET OUT!
Instantly, the throbbing pressure in Dante's head faded, and the lightning bolts vanished.
You cannot hold me back forever... That is your fate... you had best learn how to accept it...
Dante opened his eyes again. Apparently he had unleashed a lot more than lightning. The walls were scored with the marks of high-speed air blades, painted black and crimson by the scorch marks from the lightning attack and the blood of the fallen. The floor was cratered in places, and near these craters, dead or dying dragoons lay with shards of the obsidian floor lodged deep in their bodies. The irony struck Dante as profound, given that most of the shards were long and thin, like the weapons they bore.
Live by the spear, die by the spear...
He found an intact chair and let himself collapse into it.
Again. The the second time already, he thought. What is this? Who am I? What am I?
And then his reverie was interrupted as Dezil smashed the throne chamber's doors open, and his forces rushed in through the shattered remnants of the portal. In a loud, commanding voice, he gave challenge.
"Residents of the Kingdom of Rab, surrender or die to the Empire of N'Revat!"
Dante stood and turned to face him.
"The citizens of Rab will not surrender to you."
He gestured to the mutilated corpses lining the room, and nonchalantly helped himself to an apple which had miraculously survived the carnage.
"Their fate, you see, has already been decided..."
He took a bite and chewed, as though daring Dezil to do something about it.
"In any case, I have no further business here nor any quarrel with you. Good day."
He began walking toward the door, as though nothing had happened.

Dezil looked on in horrer at the slaughter that had just taken place here, and at first barely noticed the mage calmly sitting and eating in the middle of it. Then as the mage addressed him he turned his armor to get a better look and said, "You... are the mage from the battlefield, working with the Rab forces. Why would you do... this?!" Dezil gestured with his mech arms uselessly at the slaughter, and vaguely noticed the sounds of hurling coming from his guard. <The only good thing is now I don't have to worry about taking prisoners and forcing a surrender at least...> He thought bizzarly, his mind for some reason coming up with that thought at this moment.

Then, Elyse and Luce made it to that room. It had actually been hard. First the N'revat tried to kill them. Then the Rabians who saw them talking to the N'revatians, had to be killed. But after running a lot and jumping, they finally made it to the capitol building. They ran up the stairs and when they made it to the courtroom's door it was already too late. The N'revat forces were there and a mage who said something about traitors. Elyse came closer and said: "I have been sent here to kill the president. As usually I am late."

Dante surveyed the N'Revat forces massed outside the throne room. All the expected implements of death were there, antimagic Magiteks, heavily armed assault troops, and many others.
They are prepared for death, he thought. It would be a shame to let them go without seeing it...
He dismissed the idle thought with a slight dip of the head. There wouldn't be much chance of defeating this force, not when he was still drained from that magical assault with no room to maneuver.
And besides, there was no point in doing so. Dezil seemed an intelligent person. He'd probably be smart enough to take yes for an answer and simply gloss over the fact that the heart of the Rab government had been obliterated by a former employee.

Deep in meditation, Blyr could feel the spirits of most people around him. The chocobos, Tyrq, the prisoners, the crew of the airship, and the whole city. Each man dying felt like a pinprick to his own essence. He knew the defeat of his nation was imminent.
All the death...it's sickening...but I must concentrate. My own well-being, and that of my comrades, depends on it. He concentrated, not on the spirits of the people, or the war-torn capital, but on his surroundings. Working systematically, he let the essences flow through him.
Earth...wood...stone...water...metal...all these have spirits of their own. I must harness their power...just like when I was a boy...like my noble parents, who met their end by the N'revat...
He remembered playing 'Tag' as a child with Ripel in the forest by their village. Whenever Blyr was 'it,' Ripel would keeep him away using weak Chocoballs. However, one day, Ripel was running away, but was inexplicably tangled his friend in ivy. Both thought it was a coincidense, but Blyr kept somehow entangling things in Ivy, or making plants shoot up out of nowhere.
It was at the age of 16 that the village elder told him in secret of his heritage...that his parents were powerful Geomancers. According to the elder, seventeen years ago the N'revat wanted Blyr's parents to turn traitor on their country, and assisting in bringing Rab down before a full-scale war occurred. They were offered gold, mansions, and a seat on the aristocracy. However, their loyalty to Rab was far greater than their greed, and they were hunted down and assasinated. Before their death, they left Blyr, only a baby of about 12 months, with the village elder in a small town by the border. It was there where he was raised.
Remembering all this, and seeing the dire trouble he was in, he gave out a subconscious cry:...help me, spirits, for I must defeat those that threaten all I hold dear!
Then the airship started to tremble and quake, the spirits residing in the literal construction of the ship itself giving their consent to a young man's plea.
I added a few things I forgot this morning...and all this stuff was approved by Ecurt...

Dezil looked hard at the mage. He had killed mercilessly N'Revat and Rab troops, then demolished the heads of the government he served, but would killing one more mage really matter now? The end was in sight, this war might be over and the bloodshed could end in under a month, so did it matter how it ended as long as peace could return?
Dezil said, "You can go mage, I see no reason why we need to fight you when the battle is obviously over. The head of all the Rab forces have been utterly wiped out, the fighting in the city is dying down, and the war is about to end. I hope to see no more bloodshed of this magnitude in my lifetime, and I hope not to begin peace with one more wasteful death." Dezil then shouted so the assembled N'Revat forces could hear, "The war is over, the leaders of Rab have fallen, long live the N'Revat!" The soldiers let out a thunderous cheer at the news, celebrating the end of the war and teh victory of N'Revat.
Dezil had been busy as the soldier cheered and written a pass for the mage, allowing him to get through all the N'Revat checkpoints unmolested. He kneeled down in the armor and tossed the pass to the mage. "That will get you through the city without any N'Revat forces attacking you, simply show them this pass. Rab forces are your problem, but you seem capable of handling yourself in that regard. I don't know who you are, or what you goals were in this war, but I have the feeling we will meet again."

This shaking...this was perfect. Everyone would be distracted long enough for him too free the prisoners. For the first time in a while things are going my way.
Ripel was a little surprised to see that the source of the shaking was from his friend Blyr, but that suited him just fine. He was surprised, but gladly so. "Well, looks like you've finally improved. About time," he added, jokingly as he opened Blyr's cell.
After unshackling the captives and liberating several weapons from some guards (someone had spotted him sooner than he expected to be caught, but the chocobo were free and able to handle them) Ripel motioned the others to follow him as headed towards the exit that led out of the ship.

Ciaran nearly fell over as the ship started to shake, but managed to catch himself on a wall. He had been on his way to deck when it started, and now he hastened his speed to a jog, assuming that the shaking was some sort of Rab attack. When he arrived on the deck, however he saw no one attacking the ship and so he grabbed a nearby soldier who was running around frantically.
"What's going on here?" the general asked, a slightly urgent edge to his normally, and still mostly, calm voice.
The soldier's response, however, was anything but calm, but rather panicked and barely responsive. "W... We don't know! We're under attack!"
Undoubtly the soldier would have ran off had his tunic not been in Ciaran's fist, and the general backhanded the man with his free hand in order to snap the soldier out of it. "Calm down. Go and activate the anti-magic engines, and alert the engineers still left on the ship to check the engines. It must be either magic or engine failure. Get as much help as you can along the way, I want this done now."
The soldier seemed to calm down a bit, hearing Ciaran place forth a calm and honest strategy to stop the ship's quaking and saluted. "Yes sir!"
As the man ran off below deck Ciaran retreated back into the ship as well and began wandering the hallways with his sword drawn, looking for the source of this disturbance himself.

As Carolina started to get up, she was quickly stopped by one of the soldiers. "Halt there! I don't recognize you, or him...." A small group of men joined and circled around the mage and thief, pulling them up to their feet. "Stowaways, or perhaps spies from Rab..."

'I could most likely get into there before he could fire, and fight him in close quarters... but it'd be risky, one bullet and I'll be an ex-general. The general's attention left the door and he looked over Ripel slowly and sheathed his sword, quickly thinking over his alternatives to getting shot. I suppose I could lead him into a guarded section of the ship, but that would also be ri... ahh... Yes, perfect.' Ciaran moved toward Ripel with a smirk on his face, but both arms out from his sides to denote that he wasn't going to attack.
"You realize that even if I bring you to General Clique, you'll never escape. I could... change that however. All I ask in exchange is that you do something for me. And I'll not only let you and your friends off the ship, but I'll return General Clique to you upon it's completion. Or... I suppose you could shoot me now and die on your way to the deck... or once there."

Meanwhile.
Elyse and Luce had wached everyone go out. Then Elyse had a great idea.
"We could stay here untill this battle is over and then return home. Meanwhile, let's have a cup of coffee. I'm famished!"
Luce replied (OOC: Please let me controll im for a while) "Of course! So am I."
And they went into the kichen of the house and dined.
Dante
01-09-2004, 06:54 AM
Dante noted the stares of the N'Revat soldiers and the surviving Rab troops. They seemed to ask who does this guy think he is, walking through the streets like he owned them? Dante didn't care. He was neutral, and he had a pass. He would not be attacked. If he was...
Then things would be pretty much par for the course, no?
Shut up. We're not fighting now. No need for senseless, suicidal violence.
A young private, his pike trembling in his hands, came up to him.
"S..sir, I'll need to see your identification..."
Dante looked askance at him and produced the pass. The soldier looked at it and beckoned his sergeant over. The gruff man returned Dante's cool defiance with a scowl.
"You sure 'bout this? This pass here is signed by Commander Dezil... and last I heard, he was out attacking the Capitol Building-"
I have a bad feeling about this...
"Yes. I met him, he gave me this pass and llet me leave."
The sergeant laughed, a short, harsh donkey's bray.
"Ha! As if! Dezil's as cold a man as his machines. He'd never do this for anyone! Men! Arrest hi-"
OOC: :rmage: DUN DUN DUNNN!!!
A hand glowing crimson caught the sergeant under his throat. The luckless man could feel his life draining away as the reversed cure spell infused him with baleful negative energy. Around him, Dante sensed a dozen crossbows pointed his way.
Par for the course, Dante...
His eyes blazed. "I don't need this!" Dante shouted. "There's no bloody point to any of this! Why can't you stupid bastards take yes for an answer and let me go?"
Negotiating's a lot harder when you're draining the life out of your hostage, Dante... heh heh heh... Kill them all and save yourself the trouble...
He blinked. The red glow faded from his hand and the sergeant managed to gasp a command.
"Lower your weapons! Drop them now, you idiots!"
The soldiers complied. So did Dante. He lowered the sergeant to his feet, and the soldier immediately fell to his knees, coughing and choking. He was about to say something when he noted Dezil's Magitek charging up behind him.
He'll call his men on you! Kill him! Kill him now!
I told you to shut up, right?
Dante stepped out onto the road, into Dezil's path. Surprisingly, the Magitek actually stopped in front of him.
"What do you want now?"
"I've been having a few... emigration problems. I doubt you'd want to lose these men if you could help it, and I don't want to make a big fuss out of the matter, so I would appreciate it if you would be so kind as to escort me out of the capital and thus avoid further scenes like... just now."

Finally, I get in on some action...
Blyr had many skills, but apparently Navigation wasn't one of them. Riding Toc through the halls of the airship was chaotic enough, but he made a mistake. It seems his escape path took him to the deck of the ship, where a group of soldiers and a real tough lookin' guy (ooc: Daemon) were surrounding what appeared to be a white mage and a thief.
Just my luck. I try to escape and half of the enemy's crew is right here! Oh, well. It looks like those two need help, and I plan to give it!
Blyr whispered "Toc, we're gonna pull a fast maneuver, but I need to know: could you carry more than one or two people?"
The green chocobo's reply was "Wark." (or whatever sound they make), but Blyr knew it was "Yes."
"Good, then."
Hiding behind an unoccupied cannon, he stuck out his hand at another cannon across the deck, and concentrated. C'mon...work! The deck below the cannon collapsed, and it fell through. Soldiers began to run about, panicing once more. They ran about, yelling things like "I don't want to die! Ack!" and "Where did the cannon go?" Apperently, they weren't as skilled as Blyr thought they should be.
"Okay, let's go!"
Mounting Toc, Blyr rode towards the two victims to-be, hoping he could get them to mount the chocobo and off the ship before anyone caught him in the act...

OOC: Woohoo! Got to love half-days of school! Hmm, it seems Dezil has PR problems, although this won't help...
Dezil looked at the soldier and said, "You did not accept the pass I gave this man, even though it was an official note with the signiture of the commander of the Magitek Armored soldiers on it?" The man turned firey red and started to bumble out an excuse, but Dezil raised one of the Magiteks arms and said, "I won't listen to your excuses, I will only say that General Ciaran may find this act of insubordination interesting..."
The man panicked and said, "No sir, last I heard you were in the capital building, and we had no reason to believe you would write up a pass for some strange mage, sir!"
"This 'strange mage' single handedly wiped out the all the Rab Grand Generals, chief Mage, and President, so perhaps you should think twice before doubting orders from a superior officer. I will remember this, but I will not report it. Now, perhaps you should be headign to the front lines, and grateful he didn't repeat that battle on you all, hmm?" Dezil said, and the sergeant quickly got his soldiers back in formation and headed off at a run.
Dezil shook his head at the incompetence of the soldiers of his nation, but then look at the mage and said, "Well, since it seems that the soldiers in my army are too stupid to read words on paper, I guess I will need to escort you to the nearest city exit to prevent further death among the N'Revat soldiers." Dezil then got his Magitek Armor moving again at a slower pace so the mage could keep up, and started heading to the city limits.

OOC: PR problems?
Jogging beside Dezil's Magitek, Dante turned to the engineer.
"Thank you. Not many of your countrymen would have done the same, especially given our previous status as enemies. A question, though. Your men seem deathly afraid of your general. I wonder what he does, to inspire such fear?"

OOC: Public relations, the segeant said, "Dezil's as cold a man as his machines." I was sort of kidding...
"General Ciaran is a master when it comes to battle, but he has a... less then genrous attitude towards the soldiers under his command, and many an officer that has failed him have ended up dead. Like I said however, he is a genius when it come to strategy, and while his tactics are brutal, they most definatly win the battles. I have served under some of the other N'Revat generals, and many are simply old men that like to play war, who are scared of the innovations I brought that have changed the field of battle, and who are afraid of changing battle doctrine under any circumstances, for if it works now no matter how many lives are wasted, why should they change it? General Ciaran however has none of those traits. He drives his troops hard, but he more than willingly accepted many of the weapons I built and tested, and if it had been up to the other generals, my Anti-Magic Generator might not have seen the field of battle since they didn't understand well enough how it worked. If General Ciaran wasn't in charge of the N'Revat army, I am fairly certain we would have lost the war to our other generals..." Dezil explained.
"As to escorting you out, honestly I'm still not sure who's side your on. I saw you that day on the battle outside the city, when you massacred all those troops then killed our head Mage. I also saw you today in the throne room, surrounded by a slaughter of the Rab leaders you had killed, with you unharmed. I still don't know whether to call you firend or foe, but I figure your tactics generally leave your opponents dead, and since I want as few dead as possible in this war, preserving some N'Revat and maybe even Rab lives is worth a trip." Dezil said.

After a brief cup of coffee, Elyse and Luce stood up and went on the move again. They were going to go back to Ciaran to report the death of the president. They stood up and after a few mistakes, found the front door. They exited. A few steps later they made it to the gate. There they showed the man at the gate the pass. The man was almost dead with fright and let them through imediatly. Soon they noticed the mage and mister Dezil.

"Kyaaa! A chocobo!" Carolina squeeled like a little girl as she saw the man emerge from below deck mounted on the large green bird. This of course illecited (goddamn at teh spelling...) a few strange looks from the soldiers in that area who didn't see him as he had quickly hidden behind one of the large cannons.
"Well.. they're cute..." she said meekly as she soldier holding her began to continue as he said he was and take her towards the General's quarters to be held for questioning.
"I'll be glad to have you put away to the General's worry... you're clearly insane or something." He reached the door, opening it with one hand.
"So liking something that's cute is a crime now? Oh brother..." Carolina rolled her eyes as she was shoved inside of the General's quarters.
What happened from there was beyond her knowledge... All she knew was that there was another crashing noise outside (as the canon fell through the deck) and the sounds of men panicking again. "Shouldn't you go check on them or something?"
The soldier that had brought her in stood guard at the door, shaking his head. "And leave you to find a way out before the General arrives? I think not. I'm sure it's something the others can handle."

Back a bit ago...
"Sorry chicca, they shackled my hands."
As he said this, he thought. Yah, with single pin locks. Amateurs.
Present...
Arc was upside down. He'd picked the lock, and killed the two guards. He was now hanging upside down from a pipe, tossing random knives where they looked like they would make the biggest bang.
"Aw screw it." He scampered across various parts of the walls and such, and walked over to where Carolina was held. The lock was simple. Arc tossed the door open, grabbed the man head, and yanked it back as one of his knives came up and snicked across it.
With the guard safely dead, Arc made a gesture towards the door. "After you my lady." He had figured out how to escape. With that hole now in the hull, they could drop out, and since the ship was landed, they could just run on their own. Most likely into the sewers. Best escape places eva'.

As the green Chocobo ran across the deck, a black Chocobo came flying at it, tackling it.
Meanwhile, Deamon had slowly followed the guard that had taken the white mage. Then he heard some killing from inside of a room. Cracking his knuckles one more time, Deamon smirked and pulled his arm back. He was facing the wall outside of the room, right next to the door. Inside of going through the door, Deamon punched the wall. People on the inside would have assumed a cannon had shot the room, and not some guy had punched the wall in, destroying most of it. Deamon smirked, then walked in, looking at the white mage and thief. "Boo."

She was clearly in a full blown panick now, just about as much of one as the men scurrying around on the deck trying to figure out what was going on, especially now that the man that had just stared at them earlier just burst into the room.

a lot happens in a few minutes, doesn't it?
He never knew what hit him.
Out of nowhere, a black chocobo dived down and smashed right into Toc, sending Blyr flying high in the air.
While in mid-air, Blyr thought to himself: My luck has been pretty good lately, but now I guess it's time to ask: Why me? He then Saw that the ground was coming fast. Oh. Crap.
He curled into a tuck-and-roll position, and smashed through the deck, landing in a room. He quickly got up to a crouch, and was about to try to climb up to help his mount when he noticed the white mage and the tough guy. Heck, I bet he could fell a wall in one blow or even put a hole in the ground, his muscles are so big! Then he noticed that the wall was, in fact, missing, and there was a big hole in the ground. I hate it when I'm right...
That guy could kill me pretty easily, let alone a mage... Blyr thrust out his hand. The ground collapsed beneath the big man, dropping him down a floor or two. Blyr then fell back to the ground, exhausted from using his abilities.

As they continued traveling, Dezil making checkpoints an easeir affair now without guards challenging them, they made it to the city gates at a fairly quick pace. Dezil said, "Well mage, your out of the city now. I hope unless you decide to join the N'Revat or stay neutral, we do not meet again. Fairwell."
