Are these torrent links ready to post on the main site for everyone who missed it the first time (and for those wanting 3.5)?
sircrowbar
11-19-2003, 06:48 PM
I am happy to see such a quick responce!
As far a the slow loading time, the only way to change that is to reduce the number of pictures in the files. I asked arround, and most people prefered the 100 episode count for each book. I normally do not make them that large, but there were alot of episodes to archive. Anyways.....
I am glad everyone is enjoying them!

They are up and running, and have 4 trackers registered. I would prefer to remake the torrents with the newer "unencriped" eBooks before they go public.
Give me about 15 minutes....

redunancy is always a good thing, but the torrents will be seeded at leased by me for as long as there is interest in the files.....

11-20-2003, 11:42 AM
so you're saying that you're indifferent about it?
sircrowbar
11-20-2003, 01:54 PM
I work on the net, so I am well aware of it's constant state of change.... so as far as how people downlad a file can change litterally on an hourly bassis.
Yes, I am indifferent. Ony due to my exeperiences with file sharing....

got a mirrior with the pdf's setup at www.freehomepages.com/superdogman/. however, the files are zipped right now and are called 100, 200 and 300.
oh, one other thing, the ones i uploaded have all of the extras plus i them made with acrobat 5 so i'm not sure if it'll work with all of the older readers but i do know that it'll work with acrobat reader 4.

11-21-2003, 01:19 PM
what would you suggest as a decoy front page?
heheh i just shared them with my entire reznet lan, im gonna get everyone hooked on 8bt!
thx for having the files as well as the torrents, useful for peeps without a compatible client.
for a good client try shareaza 1.9, it searches eMule and Gnutella 1 and 2 as well as torrents.
http://www.shareaza.com/
heh, im running my old pc as a web server, anyone messes with it and i can charge them with trespassing and/or invasion of privacy....suckaz!

what would you suggest as a decoy front page?
My favorite is a braging page.... I beat Final Fantasy IV in 6h 14m.
It is easy to grab a few screen shots for any game on the net...
Pick one, make up some crap, and make it look like it has a reason for being there.
Or just copy someones homepage and repost it...

First of all, thank you very much sircrowbar for being wonderful enough to grant us these archives!
Now, I have a question... I wanted to download them with Bittorrent, but I can't get it to work (presumably due to my firewall). I looked on the internet forever, and I know that I have to open ports on the firewall (6881-6889 I think), but I have absolutely no clue whatsoever how to do that. And like I said, I've been looking on the internet forever.
Long story short, how do I get Bittorrent to work with a firewall?

Both the first set of links and www.freehomepages.com/superdogman/ do not work for me. The first set give me a french site, and the superdogman link gives me a error 404 file not found. I can not do bittorrent because of my firewall, so is there any other way I can get the pdfs?

Crap....
It has been brought to my attention that the books 1-3 are encrypted.... The original books I made were pasword encrypted with the password "NuklearAge". I eventually replaced them with ones that were un-encrypted so the eBooks were easier to read in older versions of acrobat as well as 3rd party viewers. When I re-relesed the torrents, I must have used the wrong set.
To remove the encription simply pred 'Ctrl+D' and click set the security option to "No Security" and then 'Ctrl+S' to save it.
When book 4 is released I will change the torrents to include only the un-encrypted ones....
Sory about that guys, my bad.

I personally think brian should put out 8 bit in paper form like monthly comic books. I know i would subscribe. 8 bit kicks ass
tyr888
02-05-2004, 11:02 PM
i believe the upfront cost of making a comic, and the costs of production and delivery and such are quite high. not to mention, if he was to send them to people who
would 'subscribe'. if he sent them to retailers, it would be quite a large amount of the comics, and, honestly... every comic shop i see is always empty. if it was to single
subscribers through this site, i don't think sales would be high enough to support it well enough.
then, sadly, there is one last serious problem. people who don't pay. no matter how
good a group of people are, there will always be those that don't. that would require
getting people to call, collection agents and such. and involve paying THEM upfront
as well.
all in all, i would imagine there are way too many upfront costs, and no real way to be
definite that the sales themselves would be able to support it. if my predictions
happened to be right, that would result in price increases, to afford the mag itself.
at which point, there would likely be less people buying.
in my own opinion, i think the best thing would be to do it as it is being done now,
for as long as he decides to do it. yes, it WOULD be great, but i believe the cons
out-weigh the pros here.
not that it's any of my business, but i just thought i'd put in my profesional
opinion.

the other "big" issue is that he would be infringing on Square-Enix (owners of Final Fantasy). They would want there cut too, not to mention editing rites. The would prob find a way to take the characters away from Brian as well.
Oh well - That is corperate business for you....
tyr888
02-05-2004, 11:32 PM
yea, tha'ts true. but hey, tha'ts the way it all works. the game saved square, they
won't just drop it like that. but even if it was original characters, it would still face
all of the issues that i pointed out, and quite frankly, i would not face all those
hassles.

Wow, that download was really fast! The second book was downloaded at over 1 Mb/s (1024kb/s)!
Although I just now realized that I had to update my reader . . . I thought it was supposed to automatically do that, but I just discovered to my displeasure that I'm a mile behind in updates -- I had version 4.0. >_<
Anyway, those are great! Thanks. :)

sorry but unless you can find it on kazaa, download.com or some archive on adobe's website, you'll have to update to 6.0. anyway, about the question, the best way is for someone who has broadband download it and burn it onto a cd for you unless you want to go through hell and try downloading it with what you have.

I can arange a direct file transfer or send it a peace at a time through email, but the best thing for you is to get the unincrypted versions (non pasword protected) as they can be opened in older versions of Acrobat.
