I'm ashamed that such a powerful and superior phenomenon like Firefox could be bastardised by this thread.
But, yes--firefox is, really, really good.

Well, I use it here at school, and it runs kinda slow(though my computer takes 5 minutes to boot up, so it might be an extension of that). My teacher says the main reasion we use it is because so few people use, there are almost no viruses formated to affect it.

Eh, each browser has it's specific strengths and weaknesses. Firefox is a pretty good browser, it's just bloated as all hell and really starts to drag down older systems. It practically makes my computer unusable after about an hour or so. In fact, I prefer to use Opera (http://www.opera.com/) instead. It's a lot lighter and quicker than Firefox.

As a browser, its fine enough. However, it isn't all that great when it comes to downloading. At least for dial-up, which I have. (The only other option is sat, which really isn't an option.)
Anyway, if you pause you might as well cancel. If you lose connection, Firefox will *NEVER* pick up where it left off (unlike IE). Also, I liked how IE's cache could be found & you'd be able to acquire various files such as Mov files without having the registered version of Quicktime.

Indeed, Firefox's download manger leaves a lot to be desired.

With a few extensions and tweaks, it's still vastly superior.
And, I don't understand the bloated comment. Without any extras, firefox runs incredibly smoothly.

I might be willing to try Opera if not for the fact that all my bookmarks are on firefox. Just getting me to change from IE to firefox took changing from an old computer to a new one. I am too stubborn to use anything but ff, at this point.

Eh, on old computers, like my dinosaur, it's bloatedness becomes very obvious. Then again, this is a Pentium III 600, so... it's a bit dated. But, it has a problem with holding onto resources, and opening a new tab is still essentially the same as opening a new window, process and resource wise, it opens a new instance of firefox to maintain it. And yes, I am running the out-of-the-box version of Firefox, so to speak.
With Opera, I haven't had the problems I do with Firefox.

Firefox is nice overall, but at least for me, the damn thing leaks more than an old, rusty bucket. It keeps causing rather annoying memory leaks, and I don't exactly have a top of the line computer, so it's extremely irritating when Firefox takes up ginormous amounts of RAM for no reason.

the solution to that? get a line that won't get disconected. seriously. we live in the 21st century, theres no need to be "dialing" anyone for the internet, we are not savages.
oh yeah, and firefox is fantastic, i love it so.

I don't see what the big hype about Firefox is. I tried it a couple of times on a friend's computer, but it didn't make me go "wow, I NEED this!" or anything. IE runs smoothly and is dependable, so I see no reason to switch at the moment.

If IE is running 'smoothly' and 'dependable', then you must know something we don't.
I like firefox. The only reason it is slower than IE is becuase windows is IE.

The attraction with Firefox was that it had tabs, right? Yeah, about that. It's pretty much the same as using the taskbar. The only difference is that you're clicking around at the mid-top of the screen, instead of the bottom.
Of course, I'm just biased towards IE. Does it's job with no problems, comes with the system, and I don't even have to worry about checking for updates! Or silly little extras! Because it has none, meaning I can choose what I want if and when I want it!
Besides, Flash Get is a better download manager than Firefox could ever be. :}}}

I'm lucky to even *HAVE* semi local dial-up internet access. And that's only with Earthlink, beyond that I've got litterally *NO* choices of anything local. So I'll complain if I damn want too...

I'm in the "Can't use Firefox so I use Opera instead." camp.

with the tabs on opera tho, the tool bar at the bottom isnt clutterd and you can keep related pages together in one window instead. also there is a extension called all in one gesture that lets you navitgat firefox by holding down the right mouse button and drawing simple shapes, it really is a time saver.

Bloop! (http://www.stopie.com/)
Another good example (http://sonspring.com/journal/absolute-css-boxes).
Firefox is the most customisable browser out there. I give a lot of props to Opera, but FF isn't just about tabs.

Ah... Don't you just love Firefox? It's almost as lovable as google. You know, Netscape almost owned the internet in the early 90's, but they made a mistake trumpeting this fact out to Microsoft, who then made sure that IE was packaged with the computer when you bought it. Netscape's been payin for it ever since.
