Yes. The title speaks true, and i have two RP ideas bouncing around in that hollow cavity called my brain. Space. Thing.
One is fantasy, one is modern.
Fantasy is going to be quite dark. Huge dark lord, sealed in his own land (Read Realms for details) Except there's one tiny itty bitty loophole...
There's a magical artifact called the Pearl. It can be used to absorb evil. Unfortunately, this guy has been pumping it up to the point that it's now called the black pearl.
The only known person who can purge the pearl is the Harlequin. Unfortunately, the prophecies trailed off two years ago, ending in "One of salvation, and one of ruin will be bound together. The fate of all rests on all that has come before." Esentially, no one has a clue what is going on, and with the Pearl jammed full, Dark Lord is ammasing corrupted men, monsters which in turn he's also boosted and directed, and in the extreme rare cases demons themselves.
Basically, the Harlequin needs to be found FAST. And, they also have to hold off the constant assaults on the spires, and various other places. On, and the Grand Seer, the head of the Adeptus Magicollous Collegius is missing. The most powerful wizard that is the one who looks into the future and directs everything is missing. So....that's a problem.
Sign-up would be as followed in Realms.
Second idea I had was called Heist. Theives. Not the sneaky kind, but more like the kind from The Italian Job. They would rarely pull a gun, and do everything with mathematical precision. Everyone that signed up would have a specific contribution, like explosives, scrounging (finding and getting what they need), or being the getaway driver.
This would be the sign-up

So..answer the pole, and decide which one is post-poned.

I wonder who is going to be the 'One of Salvation...' (Sarcasm)
And how many times have you tried this modern RP already? (I think this is the fourth time...)

Give him a break, it's not his fault magic is cooler than guns... Although i sure wouldn't mind usign the artifact assault rifle AUG, which can pierce a hundred demons in with bullet...
No wait, that's Tetsusaiga.

Er... No, he keeps making RPs where the players are supposed to be stealthy type people, you were in one that died here...

1) NPC most likely. Crappy little NPC who can't fight worth shit and likes to run into the middle of carnage.
and 2) Every-single modern RP i've done has been different. Hitman was focusing on infiltrating and killing a single target. Kill-Team was focusing on going in working as a team, accomplishing multiple objectives, possibly infiltrating, then getting the hell out. This new one is focusing on making sure everyone does their part, and getting the target out and away in as short a time frame as humanly possible.
Let's look at the concepts.
Kill solitary target with as little detection as possible until the kill
Accomplish multiple objectives and never be found
Steal the target, and get the hell out of dodge while dealing with guards, goons, and cops.

Sounds the same, but with little difference in the mission department

There should be a KATN Rp sooner or later...
IHateMakingNames
01-10-2004, 09:43 PM
I don't know what KATN is...
And I voted for the fantasy one, since I see a chance of that living, and I doubt the modern one would... (Face it, anything without magic here had died)

What's KATN?
Maybe Harlequin shouldn't be a person, even an NPC, but some sort of item or weapon instead?

Actually, not really.
Hitman was too much lone-wolfin' based. And you people SUCKED at the idea of being undetected. Should've made harder reprecusions.
Kill-Team required working in unity and being undetected. Once again, you people SUCKED. I mean really, tossing a flash-bang grenade WHEN YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO BE UNDETECTED?
Heist doesn't rely on you being stealthy. Just getting the job done, and actually (*gasp*) working together.

SS, you weren't so great in Hitmen yourself... If I remember right (Which I am) you had your guy shooting several guards, then jump out a window and grab onto the thing window cleaners use, and shot swat team people as they looked out of the window to shot you with machine guns, never getting hit (Some of the items may be changed, but that is basic idea of it)

Well, the target was dead. No need for stealth.
Aww, come on. There's gotta' be more people that surf this forum than that!

... I won't comment on that situation...
I voted fantasy not because I don't like a good RP about thieving or RPs in a modern setting, but I really prefer a more fantasy/sci-fi setting to my RPs just because those are my favorite types of books. Also, I didn't like how Kill-switch was turning out was why I dropped out, and think that modern stealth is better suited for videogames who can concretely say whether a guard saw you or not than if the RPers decide. I just don't think stealth is well suited for an RP, and that if it was stealth in any setting, I probably wouldn't sign up. RPs seem to lend themselves better to an epic format, where you feel like a hero, or at least someone that has an impact on the world, and where you interact, fight, and adventure as a group on some grand goal that you CAN solve with stealth, but the focus is on getting by however necesssary.
I'm not a very eloquent speaker, but just my view of the state of RPing in this forum, and my view on RPing in general.

SS, make it so in the fantasy RP, we have to use stealth or die, that way, you think us into doing your modern RP ideas, but in a fantasy setting.

I'm not so sure why stealth in a fantasy setting is better then stealth in a modern setting... I think I would actually prefer stealth in a modern setting if I had to pick...

I wanted a modern setting for Heist, because in Fantasy the thief is this lightning fast thing that drops around, runs impossibly fast to the chest, picks it effortlessly, grabs the loot, then escapes in a similar fashion.
Heist, and basically modern itself, ain't like that. People have to work together to get something done, and they're never perfectly undetected.
And IHMN? The only reason you hate modern is because logic pertains to it. And the fact, that you know, your characters aren't the heroes of all existance.

I think the harlequin being an item would be the best course for the fantasy RP (which I voted for, since all modern RPs suck), since the "One of salvation and one of chaos would be bound together" line would make perfect sense for jamming a sword into a bad guys neck...
IHateMakingNames

... Cause I hate logic... And I love the idea of our characters being heroes of all existance...
I never said I don't like modern, I just said that it always ends up dead after awhile, while fantasy has a chance to live
If the good thing is an object, I doubt the evil one is a person... If good is an object, the bad is probably the pearl.

Actually, the Pearl (note the capital P) is a means to an end. It's not..well it is at the moment of the RP, innately evil.
It's like a battery. That fills up on dark magic and such, and can only feed out evil magic. Except when the Harlequin is used by the (Insert circus title here, because it'll need someone who can use it just for fun) to purge. Then it's a clean slate.
So, the evil guy would be a guy who's pumped the Pearl full, so it can't stop him much anymore. Now he's just rippin' down spires, and ahnialating main capitals.

KATN... Kick Ass Take Names.
In any case... would there be room for off-the-wall characters?

Hmm...I'd like any RP where I could look like one of the Blues Brothers, fantasy or modern. That would be a cool off-the-wall character. *starts singin' "Soul Man" and doin crazy SNL dance*

Edit: What the hell, I'll post it. Its not getting any earlier.
Name: Argriv
Race: Human
Breed: Khalahad
Age: 20
Class: Rogue Knight (see bio)
Equiptment: Normal + Quest Clasp (the thing that’s forcing me on this quest, see bio)
Weapon: Longsword and Dagger
Armour: chainmail
Quote: “But I don’t want to smite evil!”
Biggest Contribution: Being a sneaky bastard who’s also good with a sword
Bio: From a knightly line, Argriv left his family to make, and then live off, an ill gotten fortune. However, when every member of his family fell in quests to destroy the dark lord by force of arms, word was sent to an old spellcaster friend who then sent Argriv the Quest Clasp, a jeweled broche. The Wizard neglected to mention the fact that the wearer would a) have to serve the cause of good while wearing it and b) be unable to remove it until the quest was fulfilled. This has caused a good deal of consternation for Argriv, however, here he is. Although trained as a knight, he has the mentality of a rogue. Although he was once rich, nearly none of his wealth is left as the medalion has long since forced him to donate its vast majority to finding a way to overthrow the dark lord, money, with which the recent developments, has gone completely to waste.
