i was reading brians post today (for # 699) and decided to click on the link and... the bandwidth for that guys site is exceded! i think its just amazing that by simply placing the link in his daily post brian can overload another sites server. now that is power

It's not that uncommon an effect, many people have that power, most notably commander taco of slashdot. But gabe and tycho of penny arcade and fred galagher of megatokyo also possess the ability to crash sites.

I've been linked to via the 8BT frontpage a couple of times. Before we got a good server, our server crashed every time. I remember the first time (with my guest comic) I think we had 60 Gigs of bandwidth eaten up the first 24 hours and even more the next day. It's rough, but it was a lot of fun.

I believe the term is called "wanging" a site. Coined by the two jokers at PA. (Of which I'm a fan.)

And this brings to mind a question that's been bubbling on my brain.

Just how popular is 8-Bit Theatre?

This is the perfect thread for a momma joke, but I'll give it a miss.

Evidently 8BT is site-crashingly popular.

No, you think? I'm new at the board, but since reading all the comics in about four days (the ones up until 698), I can see why usually. Then again, maybe I don't. Aw, who cares anyway... I'm not one to discuss--well, maybe I am.

Anyway, I used to go to this site known as nekio.com (basically an anime female gallery) but I've gotten nothing but Bandwidth Exceededs from their site recently (but not TOO recently)... until they went down FOR GOOD.

Also, check out my post. The Protomen's site should be back up in a day or so with enough bandwidth to handle it.

Closing since there's already a Protomen thread and having one about sites that in the past exceeded their bandwidth strikes me as not good.
