So while performing my usual meaningless tasks at my job today, I pondered about the career plans gone awry over my lifetime and tried to figure out exactly where/what my dream job would be, and why... I came up with a few answers:
1) Pilot: I would like to get a job where I get paid to see the world. I found that I love to travel, and get stir-crazy rather easily when I remain in one place for more than 6 months or so...
2) Hotel/Travel Consultant: Once again, with the travel thing, only this time, getting paid to sample hotels and services all over the world, and reporting my findings. Who wouldn't want this job?
Also, I determined that a job where I would get paid to receive oral sex would be awesome as well... I suggested a "Head Receiver" position to my boss, who was amused, but didn't seem to take me seriously... hmm.
One can dream, I guess... what would you want to do?

I think I wouldn't mind being the object of worship for a cult. You can bum money off your worshipers, make them carry you around and get stuff for you when you don't wanna get up, and you're pretty much guaranteed to get laid at some point.

Right now, I design multi-million dollar resorts and residences... and I'll never be able to afford to live in any of them. I'd rather be a published (and perhaps wealthy? Yes!) author, or a licensed architect.

My dream job?
1.Get paid to roll ciggarettes/joints/etc. (Not that I condone smoking them, or would offer my services to anyone not actively seeking them, I just love rolling ciggarettes, or anyting for that matter, there is something very calming about rollling something up in paper.) (As a side note, I also love to wrap presents.)
2. Get paid to get laid.
As Kanye West once said, before he went nutso...
"I don't know what's better, getting paid or getting laid, I just know that when I'm getting one the others getting away."

I would like to write comic books. But of course, my work would be harshly critisized. But that's okay. It's not for them. (http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2004/03/24) What I mean is, I'd kill Wolverine in my first ever issue.
Even if I was writing The Flash, I'd find a way, dammit.
If not a comic writer, then a writer of some other type, and if not that, a naval captain.

Dream jobs off the top of my head:
1) Astronaut (especially interplanetary, how many people could claim they've been to Mars...)
2) Writer (not a very secure profession, more specifically I'd love to write for Wizards of the Coast on d20 stuff, but I love writing fiction as well)
3) Teacher (Moderate salary potential, great benefits, tons of vacation, early retirement, making a difference in people's lives, and hey, this career path is still open to me, and the world will always need teachers) [at least it will until someone here at NPF figures out how to blow up the Sun]
EDIT: SpacePope, you should be a Crepe roller. I like crepes! :P

Dream Jobs:
1. I want to be the person who comes up with great ideas for movies and video games...and then hears, "That's fuckin' brilliant!" (without the slightest hint of sarcasm) and gets paid a nice amount of money.
2. I'd also enjoy being able to create literature so full of passion, beauty, truth, and imagination that it causes a renaissance in creativity.
3. A part of me still wants to be up on the stage, performing. There was always something catharic about being able to escape into a role. I think I may be past my days of memorizing pages and pages of dialogue, though...but there's always improv.
4. Then again, there's always the dream of being the woman in charge. It's kind of a fun fantasy...but probably a bad one when Aunty Entity and the Dread Sun Goddess/Queen Masaka are my role models for Empress of the World. =p

Actually, I could see being a politician. I recieve a phenomenal amount of money, and if I screw up, I still get a pension higher than double my current annual earnings, for the rest of my life, for doing nothing.

People have said that I'd make a great lawyer/politician when I got older. Hell, I'd be the funniest lawyer you ever saw.
Being the frontman of a band. Self-produced music. Signed with Road runner. Sounds about right. But that's something every teenager and their mother wants to do (exagerration).
But it would have to be a band of decent fugging people. I couldn't stand singing stuff like Silvertide and Hinder, for those who know who they are. I prefer the lyric-alitude of Killswitch Engage.

Well, I'm already doing part of my dream in my webcomic.
I'd love to be part of the brainstorming team for an RPG of some sort, because really, only a few of them are really getting it right. Also, programming or script-writing/storyboarding for an RPG would be fun. I'm already sort of doing the storyboard.

3. telling stories (not exactly writing but something like that)
4. Some high position of power in a company so I could make the grunts feel more respected.;) With better pay and insurance and stuff

I seriously wish I was an acrobat for Cirque du Soleil. But I think that my crowning, glorious, most fulfilling achievement would be to be in a band simply to perform a cover of David Bowie's "Magic Dance" from the Labrynth soundtrack.

Being a full time writer that has people clamoring for my works with a constant money stream.

Hm...
My dream job would have this environment:
Light yellow walls in a medium sized office, with the scent of vanilla gentle and low swirling about.
There would be a window, and it would show me the blue sky, mist or lightning of a cityscape.
There would be three plants flourishing; a spiderplant, a `wandering jew`and a tended yet larger aloe. (why is it that people allow those things to bigify and then die?)
My guest (clients`) chairs would be wedgewood blue gingham, with pickled pine wood, a hutch with etched glass in same wood, and a smallish desk between me and them, also in pickled pine. The floor could be just about any colour.
I`d have a small bookshelf to my left, full of knowledge and healing books. Techno, Trance, New Age and Beethoven or other classical music would be played either with clients or without, depending on their taste of music and choice.
On my right I would have a toyshelf / children`s basket for little ones to amuse themselves with joy while their parents receive assistance.
My computer would be a solid workstation - not flashy. My lcd monitor would not be bigger than 17". I would have a small "black book" registry as well, where I could keep hardcopy shortnotes on file.
My co-workers would be as self-directed as myself as for our case managment, however we would also need to integrate and hold meetings with each other once a week. We would also need a manager to look up to for guidance or administration needs. (Hey! I`ve been shorted on my paycheque! -or- I need the fifth off for a medical appointment. Calvin wants to cover for me, `k?)
We would be supportive of each other, and for the most part complementary. (Complimentary would be nice, too, but meshing in to each other is what I`m aiming for.)
Managment would be somewhat directive, supportive, troubleshooting, and disciplinary if needed. NO MICROMANAGMENT and NO NEGLECT!
Managers would be there if we needed them to be, even in disciplinary actions, but not there to `hold our hands`over every crisis.
The work: challenging, and fairly fast paced, with short but heavy workloads for each client. I`m seeing a personality identifyer, with either MBTI / Enneagram / True Colours type of thing.
My motto: to bring freedom and meaning to other`s lives.
To do this, find SOMETHING good in each person, even someone who has given up on themselves, and make them shine. To help find people the work they want to do, and watch them succeed in it.
Also, the work itself should allow me to feed my intense desire to know MORE, to research and learn. It should feed my need to be a lifelong learner.
I want to go to school for a while, learn, practice my craft, research a little, go back for more professional development, etc.
Guess I want to be a career counsellor, or something like that. :D
I don`t like spending a *lot* of time with people. I need lots of quiet, recharging time. When I do spend time with folk, I want them happy and healed, safe and feeling good about themselves and what they do. I want to empower people through their own strengths so they can overcome any weaknesses.
Please don`t hold that against me. (Great grins.)

I'd probably love being a full-time writer.
I mean, the only difference between that and now is that I'd be getting paid to do what I already do. Sit on my butt and write.
Now, I'd actually have to write coherently all the time, but that's a sacrifice I'm more than willing to make.

I want to be a professional critic. Getting paid to insult stuff and make people want what I want all day long... that would be pretty sweet.
"Hey! Your face is ugly!" "Wow, thanks! Here's $50 000 bucks!" "Awwwww, yeeeeeah."
I would also like to be a legal pimp. I'm surprised nobody's mentioned that.

Wow, that sucks. I mean, for me, because yet another person gets to be Livin' the Dream while I can only pretend I'm hurtling through space on ropes, Russian swings, and high dives.
Bastard....
I know!
I wish I could frolick with other men in tights all day!
Don't we all? But really, for every man in tights, there's two more women. Besides, I'm sure Cirque du Soleil performers get all the honeys.
Whale Biologist
08-28-2006, 05:16 PM
He already gets the honeys. Personally, I was hoping he'd have gone into Ultimate Fighting, or something...
He was one of my Senseis in Shinzen-Ryu Goshin-Do. Our Shihan (which means Master Teacher, it's above Sensei) says that, in forty-five years of teaching, this one guy (who is only two years older than me) is the most skilled, most naturally gifted and most naturally talented martial artist he's ever encountered. To him, martial arts is the pursuit of spiritual perfection and harmony, and as such, he doesn't like to fight. He could dismantle anyone in the UFC today (including Liddel and Ortiz, if I'm any judge of combat skill) but he never, ever would. He would rather be in Cirque du Soleil.
And you're right, most of Cirque is lithe, foriegn wimmin...
Bastard.
Ok, new wanna-be job: chef in my own restaraunt.
