View Full Version : Ending the tale

Whenever I find myself nearing the end of an rpg, when I'm walking around the underground cavern in FFIV, after the Northern Crater's shield is shot down, (insert end of good game here), I find myself extremely reluctant to end the game. For instance, me and my brother rented FFVII and got to Ultimacia's Castle and then went off back to the world and kept doing random things, side quests, leveling...eventually we ended up returning the game without finishing it and then rerented it a month later and played if from the beginning again. Does anyone else do this/can someone help me understand why I do this in RPGs? And only in RPGs? (well, adventure/RPGs too...I was pretty reluctant to go face Gannon at the end of A Link to the Past heh)

only twice:

-with FFV i got really into maxing out my jobs, i made it to the final battle, but never bothered to beat it.

-Baulder's Gate 2: i became obsessed with completing ALL of the side quests in chapter 2, and never actualy progressed any further in the game.

FFX still sits on my shelf, and i intend on finishing it...one day

You are a far cry from alone in the matter. Heck, I do that all the time - it just seems that so rarely is worth it for me to make the final push and beat the game. Not only do I usually have to go through some very hard/tedious sections, but I inevitably find myself facing the matter of how much time I wasted on a matter which is now utterly done with.

Man, i go through this kind of thing all the time with FF games. I get REALLY close to the end, then I think : "Okay. I've come this far. I think I deserve a breather." Then I put the game away and start playing another one. By the time I get round to playing the previous game again, I've completely forgotten where I was, where I was going, what I was doing, and the only way to solve the problem is to restart the game. My total number of FF saves would probably take up up to ten memory cards worth of file space.

One word: HELP!

I'm working on solving my FF tentativeness. The only FF games I've taken the time to beat are the SNES ones; luckily I'm most of the way through FFVII, and FFIX, FFX and FFT all have end-of-game saves. All I have to do is replay FFVIII...

I have end game saves for every RPG I've beaten, so if I feel like it I can go back and replay parts.

And for FF7 I had it for the PC so I have saves before every major event in the game.
