Ok, so I recently bought a 1994 Ford Escort. The engine, transmission, and brakes were perfect when I bought the little monster. Well this is where the story begins...

I few days ago I went on a shopping run only to turn the ignition with no response. I tried again and actually held down the ignition, after a good 4 seconds it started. I took this as a bad sign and decided to take it to get checked...after I stop at walmart. Bad Idea. I get back out and lo and behold it wont start.

First suspect: The Battery. Still in the walmart parking lot I removed the batter and took it inside. According to the monitor in the automotive department the battery was fine. I cleaned the leads and hooked it back on, still wont start.

When starting, the car gives no response. Occasionally the engine, oil, and battery lights come on when trying to start.

Second Suspect: Oil. It was quite low, but I filled it and it still wouldnt start.

It is now out of my league, I had it towed and am now getting it fixed.

The mechanic called and said he has no idea what the problem is 2 days after starting on it (luckily I pay for the repair, not the diagnosis). But, because the car has been giving him no response, with whatever instuments he uses (remember, im dumb with cars), he thinks its the computer.

Now I know what a car's comp does and how it would effect the car. What I'm asking for is what should it cost to fix it? Worste case scenario is the entire computer system is replaced. Best case is just the chip. So any ideas? Any car gurus?

Ummm, sounds like a classic starter issue... if its sommin' funky it could be your ignition cyclinder but thats a stretch, but less of one than your computer, the guy is full of it. Go to a junk yard and pick up a new starter for about 25-40 bucks and put it in. Should take you an hour tops, just make sure your leads are tight and you put it in the way the other one was in.
