Ok I'm new here so I'm sorry if this has been done and I didn't see it. Anyway, to me the fact that anime uses gore (as oppose to cartoon violence) and sexual themes alot more then american cartoons (without being just blatent violent porn) is one of the big reasons why I'm hooked. So what I wanna know is, what are your opinons are about this and if you think one is better then the other. And please give some reason behind it (I don't wanna get in trouble because ppl go posting "I love hentai" 50 dozen times).

for the record, making posts like "I love *whatever*" will atleast get you a warning here. No body likes a spamer
Actually american media in just about all forms tend to be more violent. While Japanese tend to be more sexual. The reason you find sex and violence in anime is simply because they dont have our 'cartoons are for kids' steriotype. You take your typical adult aimed TV show in the US and gore/violance wise your looking at the kinda stuff you see in anime. Its just animation allows you to do more over-the-top stuff.

You know, looking at the title, I thought Al Gore made some sort of comment on Hentai.
In any case, I don't really watch anime just for gore and hentai. Though I do like that those animes don't have as much of the 'cartoons are for kids' thought that America has. Wasn't that caused by a lot of censorship back during a certain point in America's history? I heard before that point, cartoons were more racy.

Also the Japannese are a little more lenient in terms of who is considered "Inappropate" though a good deal of it is censored in some way. However, it mostly applies to the human form, which is why there's such a wide verity of Hentai out there.

Everything used to be more 'racey' in the US. Heck even shows like Tom N Jerry would never make it on network TV nowadays. Think about it, smoking, drinking, electricutions, heck I have seen action figures recalled for less. Simular thing happened to comic about the same time, what we have now are those respective markets returning to what they once were. Video games are currently going through this, but they seem to be weathering it better. Now how sad is that?

They're right, y'know.
Do you even look at anything other than the pictures in some of those books? It says 16+, not 18+. The Japanese are unrestricting people and I want their rules to apply here. But moving on...
America is divided when it comes to this. I'll steal the example of video games. GTA, which we all know is bad in the opinion of the average mother and Thompson, gets their rating changed. Not over killing the hookers, not over killing the police and changing the paint to avoid them, but over sex. America doesn't care about how much killing you put into a game, you cannot get an AO rating without some form of Nudity/sex in the game.
Personally, I can't condone such mindless violence, and prefer hentai to the American alternative.
That being said, I'm going to go bug Fighter=Genius to give me the rest of the Negima! series on monday.

.....I'm not even going to ask about your tastes in Hentai...
Especally since I have that series too...
Anyway, if you look around for ecchi, most of the pics are no worse then what most would find in Playboy. I usually use those as pose ideas for some of my pics sometimes.
Personally, I'm more offended when some form of media glorifys the murder of law enforcement officials than when Tentacle-Man gives it to Stereotypical-Schoolgirl in the back. That's just me, though.
ZERO.

They both have their strong ponts.
The gore having bad ass gun fights and mech battles.
The hentai having some tig ol' bitties.
It's a 50/50 thing for me.

I gotta admit that I'm in a bit of shock over the level of intellegence you guys displayed in this topic. It hit me after reading some of the replies that I've be pretty much numbed to all the violence in american cartoons to the point that they didn't even register. I guess it took a few scantily clad catgirls to get me to pay enough attention to notice the gore (scary part, that's not a joke).

So wait, like, this is about comparing rape-porn to explicit violence, or some junk? I'm pretty sure that's not something we discuss here.
