Lol, so the Wii went on pre-order. And since I was forced to take Friday off and work on Saturday this week, I decided to get up at the bright and early hour of 8 am and go try to reserve it. Glad I got there first in line because when the store opened 2 hours later...I found out there was only 8 of them able to be reserved.

So who else reserved it? And did anyone actually reserve it with anything besides Zelda?

I didn't get up in time (the first people at the store were there at 5 am), so campout for me!

Eh, I wasn't really counting on the reserve to pan out anyway. And I love camping out for consoles. You get to meet people who love video games as much as you do and hang out for a few hours. And then you get a new video game system when it's over.

Are there going to even be any available for non-reservers? There aren't any in my city. Every GameStop, EB Games and private hole-in-the-wall I know of put them all up for pre-order.

ZERO.

That's how it was over here too.

I didn't reserve one though.

I went to my little private hole-in-the-wall to pick up some cards.

Lol, my Card run will be Nov. 1st when my friends and I end up going and buying 2 boxes of Time Spiral and 2 of Unhinged (Magic).

I TRIED to.

I went to EBgames to try to get a spot... there were maybe 30 or 40 people. The manager later came out, counted us, and said there'd be enough for most people in the line (specifically, by the count, for five people past where I was in line).

The problem? Apparently they were ignoring the "only one per household" rule, because scalpers up front bought several. The result? The guy in front of me got the very last pre-order.

I waited an hour to get screwed by scalpers and bad management.

I have... contingency plans for the launch. I'll just leave it at that.

Are these the kind of contingency plans I should be worried about? Should I be bringing my gas mask to the store?

Edit: Hey look, it's post number 666. Two days ago and the numerical significance would have been doubled. Oh well, can't win'em all.

Sweet thing is I know some of the dudes over at my little place.

They keep tons of cards in this box, and if you ask nice they will build a deck any cards you want Magic, Pokemon, Yu-gi-oh or any other god awful card game even though most of the time it's Yu-gi-oh or magic that is requested.

They do good work.

EDIT: Spelling and grammer errors.

I have yet to pre-order anything, though this might be the first console I buy at launch. I'll probably still end up just waiting until they're down to $150 or something and have a huge library, though. Choices, choices.

Something about this whole "runnning out of preorders" thing strikes me as odd. I mean, Nintendo has said that North America will be getting, what, 2 or 4 million units? It hasn't been advertised on normal outlets (unless I'm just missing the TV and magazine ads). And it's a Nintendo console. When has there ever been a mad clamoring for a Nintendo console?

So, yeah, this seems a bit fishy.

Because of Playstation 3 and Xbox360 launch quantities, they got super paranoid and most stores limited the number of pre-orders to what they got for the PS3.

I'm not getting a Wii until January, maybe February.

If you guys actually think it's possible to get one before christmas, I laugh at you. Furby and Tickle Me Elmo all over again.

...This is why I hate humanity. They always get all the cool toys before I even have the money to buy thems. Fucking rich capitalist dogs. Jealousy ensues.

You only say that because you don't wanna be the only kid without a Wii this Christmas. I'm going to accuse you to your mommy! And then you'll see who is the cool kid! Waaa!

I don't know how things go in your town, but around here the big chains like Wal-Mart and Best Buy don't do console reserves. It's first-come, first-serve when the thing goes on sale at midnight, and waiting in line in front of the store for hours on end is permissible. That's how I ended up doing things for the Gamecube and 360-hanging out outside of Wal-Mart until midnight.

I live near one of the largest Wal*Marts in the nation.

And nobody around here is into gaming all that much.
:)

I have no problems with waiting to get my Wii at launch instead of pre-ordering.

I won't be able to get a Wii until after Christmas, but that is not due to me not trying to preorder. It's just the minor difficulty of going to Wal-Mart or GameStop when one lives approximately 15 hours by plane away from the US.

Me and my friends had been waiting for this for awhile now, so I was hyped up. For some reason we had school off that day (and we also have the entire week when the Wii comes out off, I will not sleep that entire week) so I woke up early, and woke one of my friends up early, we drove out to a gamestop, and realized (We were idiots and thought that only we wanted a wii) that other people were waiting too. Luckily there were only a few people here, so we just had to wait around for an hour.

The bad part came when I heard that there were only fourteen at the store. I was twelve, a person was behind me and I knew that five more of my friends were coming to the same location. Then three of them came in one car. I recommended a battle to the death, they decided the person who drove got it. So they had to run to the mall across the street and hope no one was there. Last I heard, none of them got one.

Besides the system itself, I reserved Zelda, Trauma Center, and an extra wiimote and nunchuk.

Furby and Tickle Me Elmo all over again.Sir, if this is true, I will go out, buy a hat and a digital camera (I may "borrow" the camera, but if so, not from the haberdasher), and eat the hat while I make Mike take pictures.

I do not fear that I'll have to live up to this.

My local store is recieveing 36 pre-orderable Wiis. And come Friday only 8 people pre-ordered. Puerto Rico apparently is filled with Sony fanboys seeing that the 20 PS3 slots sold out in ten minues and no one went to pre-order Wiis. And all this about selling out, remember Best Buy, Walmart and other super stores will have tons of units (my neighbor is the manager of the local Walmart) A few EBstops here say that they are letting a few get pre-ordered and leave the rest of the shipment to camp-outs and others. My store a the very least is preparing for te Black Friday onslaught that will happen. Too bad though, for the first time in ten years they decided to remodel the store and its gonna get destroyed already (Im going by what happened in 2001)

I'm going to do what I always do with the new video game systems: wait with a Zen-like patientce for about a year/year and a half, until there are used ones available that are about half of the price of buying the systems new and I know for sure that there are a number of good games that are out. It's served me well in the past, and considering that I want (OK, being honest to myself, NEED) to get both a PS3 and a Wii, saving money is a big deal. That's major bucks, especially for someone who'll be putting himself through graduate school.

There are advantages to that method, notasfatasmike, but the difference is you won't be experiencing the new generation with everyone else. Basically--I can watch all the Nickelodeon shows I never saw when I was a kid and "catch up," but I won't be seeing them in the weekly context I would've back then, I won't be talking about it with other kids who were fans too, and I essentially will put a much more critical eye on it all, rather than just "growing up" with it.

So, yeah, you can play the Wii when it's past its prime (if it does go pas it, that is), but I don't think it'll feel the same. You've got to seize those moments, man, generations, technologies, are ephemeral, and as much as I'd like to believe that you can just bask with all the time in the world, you really can't if you want to be there, "then."

I forgot about Wal Marts and stuff. Which I assumewill be the majority of sales for thesystems nationwide.

But what do I care? I was first in line to pre-order one! =P

The only problem with your theory is that I said I was going to wait a year, as opposed to four, which tends to be the life of any video game system. When I got my PS2, I got it well before many, many fun, well made games came out, including FFX and Katamari Damacy, to name 2 examples off the top of my head, so I got to "experience" those at the same time everyone else did; I just got my PS2 for a lot less money. Just because you don't buy the console OMG THE DAY IT COMES OUT doesn't mean that you're going to miss out on the entire life of the system. Why scramble and pay a whole bunch of extra money? I've got way too many hobbies to devote all of my money to video gaming.

Meh, that's my theory, anyway.

Guess what guys?
The Gamecube is offically dead...
Thats RIGHT!
Twilight Princess has been CANCELLED for the Gamecube and now will appear exclusively on the Wii!

I sure hope all the Zelda fans pre-ordered that Wii...

Where, I live, there is never any need to pre-order. There's like, less than thirty gamers within fifty miles of this town. And if each store gets eight consoles, and there are like three or four stores within fifty miles, I don't have to worry about it. At all. Although in order to be scientific about this, I need to concede to the possibility that I am just talking out of my ass here and I'll get reamed when I try to pick up a Wii. 50/50 at worst.

It'll still supposedly be for order online, which I'd ordinarly call fair enough. Except Ninty's called take-backs so many times on this GC-Zelda action, I can't see taking anything they say about it as a given. It's like come the fuck on guys, pull the fuckin' plug or quit jerking people around already.

I mean it's not like I'm sitting here with a TP-free Gamecube, but honestly, you'd think they could just throw that fuckin' bone to the people who actually have supported them over the last four years.

One of my friends just told me he bought stock in Nintendo solely because he's sure they're going to make a ton of money off the Wii. All your posts seem to be pointing to his idea being a pretty decent one.

Although he only bought 7 shares. I don't think that will be very helpful.

The reason is because I live here in Mexico, and therefore, I couldn't go to Gamestop or Toys R Us to make the pre-order.

However, not everything is lost for me. I can wait until the second shipment arrives, so until then I will keep saving my money and see if I get enough to buy the Wii and 2 games instead of just one.(I'm looking forward to buy Metroid Prime 3: Corruption because I'm a great Metroid fan)

...but its fine and funny this way too. =P

BTW, I calculated my cost for my Wii, Zelda and the cheap guarantee they gave me. Totalled out to be just $364 dollars. Thats about the same I spent on my GC + 2 games. Not bad for such a pricey gen.
