View Full Version : Final Fantasy meets D&D, or something

That's right. I'm going to try GMing another RP. I can't promise how well it will go, but we'll try.

Basic Story: Lex Legim and Licentiaus: two countries have been at war for as long as anyone can remember. No one is really sure who started the war, but it has been being fought for so long that it no longer matters. Each country has demonized its opponent with propeganda for so long that only hate, distaste, and antagonism exists between their people, and that is all that is required to fuel the war.

Lex Legim: Is a country ruled by draconian law of the highest degree. From a distance it appears to be a near utopia. The streets are clean, despite the medieval living conditions, and the people are well fed and at peace, at least near the capital. The same can, obviously, not be said for the border where war rips apart both nations. Internal violence is almost entirely unheard of. However, such peace does not come without a price. The rules are strict and harsh, and it is not uncommon for a simple thief to be drug off to the dungeons and never heard from again--executed for his crimes. In Lex Legim law and the community take precedent over any human needs or cares.

The religion and laws here are very conservative in nature. Copulation outside of wedlock can lead to castration, for instance (justified by the orphans created by such copulations).

Licentiaus: Named after an ancient word for freedom, Licentiaus is not so much a country as it is a collection of city states who have come together and formed something RESEMBLING a country in order to fight Lex Legim's more organized military might. The law, religion, and enforcement of said law varies from city to city, with only a federal tax and military recruitment running congruent throughout. In general, however, the closer to the borders of Lex Legim one gets, the more conservative the views, thanks to black market trading, and intermingling of views. They are, however, no where near as strict as even the least conservative of Lex Legim's, and, indeed these black market deals and occassional border hoppers have served more to 'weaken the moral fabric' of Lex Legim's border cities than to strengthen that of Licentiaus's, as that chaos always spreads easier than order, causing Lex Legim to enforce stringent border controls to keep out the 'undesireables'.

Races: Pretty much anything is acceptable, just give me your race and how you want it to act. Animal-people, elves, half-what-the-fuck-evers. I'll make rulings on how over-powered they are, if at all, and if things need to be altered.

One thing, however, demons ARE evil. There are no good demons. No reformed fiends. They're bad things. Bad. I'm not saying you can't play one, but I'm going to be leery about it, and you won't be a nice person. This, further, extends to half-fiends, or anyone else with direct demonic influence (infernomancers, for instance). You can fully expect me to take control of your character in emotionally charged moments and 'release the beast', as it were. Simply because I think this makes things more interesting (and will maybe keep everyone from copping out by just being like "I'm part demon and control fire/shadow/your mom because I'm a fire/shadow/your mom demon")

Technology: Think FF6, except more than two people have airships. Further, all technology is powered by magic. For example--there may be guns, but they're more like channeling rods for pellets of condensed magic, allowing anyone to fire off blasts of eldritch energy than they are black powder hurling metal balls, and air ships are powered by various powerful crystals enchanted with various powers of flight and movement, which are controlled by carefully calibrated piping systems. Etc. Etc.

Further, magical equipment's rarity is going to be closer to D&D than Final Fantasy, which is to say, not very rare at all. I mean, really, with all those wizards in the world, why wouldn't they be making magical items and selling it for a profit, eh? However, the big stuff like airships etc. are pretty much military only.

PvP: Will be handled in a T1 fighting situation. If someone isn't posting fast enough, and it's threatening to cause serious damage to the RP, I'll have to step in. I fully expect PvP to happen, and have no problems with it.

Character Sheet:

Name: What they call you.
Species: Are you an elf? A human? A viera? A half-fiend half-unicorn moon princess fairy from jupiter?
Age: How old you are.
Morality/Ethics: A quick break down of your character's basic moral code.
Faction: Lex or Lic
Class: Just try to define what you do as concisely as possible. Are you a swordsman? A barbarian? What?
Equipment: Any equipment of note. Foot soldiers are going to have at least some armor.
Biography: Write as much or as little as you want. This is basically just a way for me to make sure you aren't being a goddamn idiot.
Physical Description: What do you look like? This should include some of your basic equipment, some measure of your mass, etc. Just basically use this to give us a better feel of who your character is and what he does.

Edit: Sample character

Name: Marilk Talthos
Species: Warforged--A living golem given sentience through various magics. Healing magic is only half as effective, can not be treated by a normal medic. Is repaired through engineering. Doesn't need food, sleep, or air.
Age: 250
Morality/Ethics: Extremely empathic, with a penchant for becoming enraged at what he deems unfair treatment of others.
Faction: Lic
Class: Berserker
Equipment: A weakly enchanted (Think +1) magical battle axe, and that's about it.
Biography: As this is a sample character, I don't feel like writing this.
Physical Description: Marilk stands roughly six and a half feet tall, metal plates covering partially organic looking strands of a strange metallic material, which are braided together and shaped in ways that resemble the muscles of a skinned human corpse. His eyes are lenses which glow with a dull yellow light, and a small rune is carved upon his forehead.

Marinan

Name: Borgnine
Species: Half-Esper(Espers are like fairies, or the Inuyasha creatures)
Age: 55 years old
Morality/Ethics: Acquisition of logic and empathic thought patterns. Borgnine values research and a status of mental stability, with a calm serenity and concerned manner of thought for the events unfolding in the world.
Class: A summoner and enchanter. He manipulates the forces in his body in order to achieve magical effects. He can use brain waves for psychic powers. He can use his blood to fight off vampires. He can use his breath to cause microbursts/tornados, etcetera. Furthermore, with his summoning/calling magic, he can make pacts with non-evil creatures in order to receive help. The non-powerful summoning magic is useful for conjuring weapons, calling upon animals, plants and insects for help, and even simple telepathy is categorized here as "summoning".
Biography: Borgnine desires to be left alone in his tower. However recent events have led to him to want to temporarily leave his place of study and focus on diplomatic concerns. He has a tiny, but nonetheless, independant, country of several hundred commoners. With a pact he has made for powerful creatures to protect his tower, he leaves Borgnine Tower and hopes for the best in keeping his country safe from both the much larger Lex Legim and Licentius countries.
Physical Description: Dark black hair and eyes. He dresses in a blue robe with "The Serpent's" ring on his finger. A stereotypical serpent swallowing it's tail. The ring's powers are unknown, but it emanates a magical energy. In addition to his black hair and black eyes, he has a broad nose, and is mid-stature at about 6'0.

Name: Ashi
Species: Blood Demon
Age: Relatively young for a demon
Morality/Ethics: Evil. Any life but his is worthless, therefore expendable if it helps him in any way. However, he will restrain himself to simply being a violent jackass if he needs to work with others for his goal.
Class: Barbarian Blue Mage
Faction: Licentiaus

Biography: Ashi was spawned deep in Licentiaus territory. The mother demon makes 30 eggs, then leaves. Ashi was the first to hatch, so he killed his brothers and sisters for early nurishment.

Being a wild demon, and far away from the two countries borders, Ashi was unaware of the war. So when he first ran into humanoids, he assumed they were all weak, unaware that the powerful ones were sent to war. This strengthed his self, and demon, superiority.

His early life was spent hunting for blood, mostly demon blood. The more he aged, the more he wandered, and he realized that the humanoids were fighting a war. After more time he started wandering into old battlefields. The amount of destruction surprised him, since it was nothing he expected from puny mortals. Eventually he found an active battlefield, and got to witness the power of humanoids at their fullest.

After watching a battle for himself, Ashi decided he should be a part of this war. He wanted to help Licentiaus destroy Lex Legim.

Physical Description: http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/7968/image1ox5.jpg 6' 6"

Race Description: Drinks the blood of a human/demon/animal/other, and gains their abilities, appearance, and traits. So if one drinks the blood of a moggle white mage, it will get shorter, furry, a puff ball, big ears, little wings, physically weaker, white magic abilites, and say "Kupo" at the end of sentences. The more blood drunk, the more drastic the changes and the longer the effect.

If one drinks a lot of blood from many different sources, strengths, weaknesses, and/or attributes overlap and/or cancel each other out. Also becomes a strain on the demon due to overlapping traits.

Without drinking blood, they are physically stronger and faster than humans, but have no magical abilities.

The Argent Lord
12-01-2006, 09:38 PM
Name: Gavald Telnar
Species: Mostly Human
Age: 28
Morality/Ethics: Any action is admissable in the pursuit of personal enhancement.
Class: Researcher/Fighter
Biography: Gavald was always smaller than the other kids. He was a lonely child because his so-called friends would always make him help them play tricks, then blame him when they were caught. When he was 10, he lost his hand in an accident, and had it replaced with a magically animated metal one. When he returned to his "friends," he realized that his new hand made him stronger than any of them. Gavald used his newfound strength to his advantage, and began training himself to fight to make the most of it. Soon the kids who had pushed him around were all but serving him hand and foot. He became very interested in prosthenics and artificial enhancements as he grew older, and eventually replaced his entire arm with a powerful metal replica. He continued training to fight, and began searching for better weapons to integrate into his body.
Physical Description: Gavald is about 5'6", with flat grey eyes and reddish-brown hair. He wears a loose sleeveless tunic and pants that allow for easy movement, along with a cape to hide his arm if needed. He carries no weapons, preferring to rely on his own skill and metal arm.

Morality/Ethics: Acquisition of logic and empathic thought patterns. Borgnine values research and a status of mental stability, with a calm serenity and concerned manner of thought for the events unfolding in the world.Ok, it's hard to really get a clear picture of his morality from this. It sounds like he's basically a bystander/calm guy who is mostly nice and not prone to violence?
Class: A summonerI'd rather there not be summoners. Also the rest of your powers sound a little... overblown perhaps. Psychic? I'd rather that not be around. It just causes too many problems. And breath making a tornado? How about just having normal magic... 'cause it's just less of a problem for me.
He has a tiny, but nonetheless, independant, country of several hundred commoners. With a pact he has made for powerful creatures to protect his tower, he leaves Borgnine Tower and hopes for the best in keeping his country safe from both the much larger Lex Legim and Licentius countries. No owning any countries. Small or not, it's too much in the way of potential problems.

Xlktyg (Temp name)Throw some vowels into the permanent name, please? I mean, it's not technically necessary... these CoC-esque names just hurt my fragile brain meats.

loses control OR the strengths and weaknesses from each source tend to cancel eachother out (Unsure of which you would prefer, since you seem to like the going insane for powerful stuff, but he's a demon so he already has that).A combination. Basically if one creature is extremely strong and another is extremely weak, yah, they're going to cancel out. Further an extremely strong creature's bonus will be weakened (though not as much) by an average strength creature's. However, let's say you drink a white mage and a black mage's blood. Well white magic and black magic don't cancel out, so you're just going to have both. Also, weaknesses and strengths would both stack. So if both those mages were physically frail, you'd get frailness from both.

And as for losing control, it won't be so much losing control as that all the traits from the creatures you eat will start stacking on top of each other... and could make functioning difficult to downright impossible depending upon what traits you've gathered from them. You might even end up altering into some kind of mass of painful flesh incapable of doing anything if you drink too much.

Further, your powers are, obviously, going to be temporary. I'm figuring the powers start to fade away after an hour, and how long they last after that depends upon how potent they were in the first place. Traits and undesirables will work the same way.

One last thing--I'm going to rule that the blood need be fresh, because a jacket full of blood containers from different creatures (like you did once a long while ago) could easily become over powered rather quickly. Plus, it'll drive you to kill and be violent more often.

And Argent: the only issue I have here is A) How much stronger? And B) You realize that only the replaced limb is going to be more powerful, right? I mean, having a hand is going to make you able to crush things in your fist pretty easily, but you aren't going to be able to lift things more easily or punch harder (though it'd hurt more 'cause it's metal). So I'm not sure how much stronger he would have been as a child. At present he probably has a really mean right(?) hook and can do things with that arm which would generally be rather impossible for a normal person. However, his off hand isn't going to have any extra strength at all.

ALSO: could I ask that people bold their name etc. categories like IHMN did? It makes it far easier to read. Further, I'd like to add a 'faction' area to the character sheet, where you just fill out which side of the war you're on, and an equipment one, for magical items etc.

So character sheets should now look like:

Name: What they call you.
Species: Are you an elf? A human? A viera? A half-fiend half-unicorn moon princess fairy from jupiter?
Age: How old you are.
Morality/Ethics: A quick break down of your character's basic moral code.
Faction: Lex or Lic?
Class: Just try to define what you do as concisely as possible. Are you a swordsman? A barbarian? What?
Equipment: Any equipment of note. Foot soldiers are going to have at least some armor.
Biography: Write as much or as little as you want. This is basically just a way for me to make sure you aren't being a goddamn idiot.
Physical Description: What do you look like? This should include some of your basic equipment, some measure of your mass, etc. Just basically use this to give us a better feel of who your character is and what he does.

Inbred Chocobo
12-01-2006, 10:53 PM
Name: Ingram Valous
Species: Half Demon
Age: 28
Morality/Ethics: His magic is as cold as his heart. On the battlefield, he is a killer, taking out every enemy. He shows no emotions in the kill, only a sense that he is getting closer to victory. In fact, he doesn't even show emotions at all. His human self has shown though that he does have respect for order rather than chaos, taking to the laws of Lex Legim rather easily.
Faction: Lex
Class: Mage Knight - Skilled in both areas of magic and swordsmanship.
Equipment: His armor is some of the nicest Lex will give to its warriors. Its enchanted with a cold touch, so that foes that strike it will feel cold as ice. His weapon, of similiar design, happens to have the same enchantment. His cape is just decoration.
Biography: Ingram is one of the most recognized warriors on the Lex Legim side. His birth was not even noted, probably because he wasn't born in Lex. In fact, he isn't sure where he was born. All he knew was that his mom took him too the capital of Lex to raise him, since she knew he could eat and have a house. She died in Ingram's early teens, and what was scary was that Ingram didn't even show up at the funeral, too concerned with what lay ahead.

After the death of his mother, he chose to work himself. His lack of feelings for the punishment of crimes lead him to join up in the guards. He worked, and did whatever he had to do. At first, he mostly relied on magic to take in foes, but later he relied on his strength as well. His talents were okay really, but his ability to instill fear was what really got him far. Far enough to, infact, send him into the military. It was only his respect of the system that he didn't break away from this decision.

Also, he has good command over ice magic. Though its not really that important to him.
Physical Description: Standing over 6 feet, Ingram looks like a fierce man to behold. The armor that rests upon his shoulders is a dark blue color of a more demonic design. The two-handed sword that sits in his hands is of the same design. With the articulate design upon the blade as well. His hair hangs down in a thick brown color, with a just as thick beard to match. His eyes are that icey blue that just chills to look at. He also has a cape of an even darker blue, dark enough to be mistaken for black. Looking at it closely, you can see it also has that evil design the rest of his stuff has.

(I think I'll experiment with something new)

Name: Naomi
Species: Human
Age: 23
Morality/Ethics: Safety and well being of the people under the rule of Licentiaus.
Faction: Lic
Class: White Mage
Equipment: Blessed Oak Staff (Holy Magic), blessed white robes,
Biography: Brought into the church at a young age, Naomi grew to love the life she lived. She was part of one of the smaller noble houses but enjoyed what luxury came her way. Naomi's life long dream was to serve the church. Later in life she found her calling healing the wounded soldiers of the war. Naomi was overjoyed when she got use her powers for good.

It became odd when the services of the white mages were called in for battle. Naomi only thought this was temporary because the white mages were ones charged with healing the soldiers after a tough battle, not during one. But after a few years it seemed like a normal thing to her. She was happy saving soldiers from the brink of death, they gave her thanks yous and gifts she refused saying that she was only doing something she loved.

Physical Description: 6', just past shoulder length brown hair, emerald green eyes, peach toned skin.

Just a few things...

This war means nothing to Takeo. To him it's nothing more then a training excercise. Until the war had startedYou aren't old enough to have come before the war. No one is.

Also, you don't have your faction or equipment filled out.

And... guys, could you stop all being demons? Seriously, how about a little bit of diversity? I mean, there are like a bajillion other races to choose from, many of which are COOLER than demons.

Be like, a half-dragon... or a fae... or maybe a half-celestial or something, if you want to be something with magical powers. How about a lunarian? Maybe a warforged, or an enchanted suit of armor? Half-bird, half-man? The sky is the limit.

Hmmm.... I have a different idea then... Just hope it doesn't break anything. Oh, may I also make mention that there are absolutely no male viera? I guess that must already be a given through FFTA and FF12.

Name: Kai (real name unknown)

Species: Looks mostly elven, except for his eyes, which are yellow with cat-like pupils, and his hands, which have sharp claws instead of normal fingernails. It is unknown what his actual heritage is.

Age: Unknown, looks to be in his mid-twenties. Has been at the monastery for 15 years, but hasn't aged as such, which is why the monks believe he may be part elven.

Morality/Ethics: Due to his monastic lifestyle, Kai believes in helping others and favors a structured, ordered lifestyle. He is perhaps a bit naive, and thinks that most everyone has a good heart.

Faction: Since the monastery where he was raised is within Lex Legim borders, his faction is nominally Lex. He really has no experience with either governments, though.

Class: Monk

Equipment: Quarterstaff, travelling clothes, sandals, backpack with some survival/camping gear

Biography: Kai washed ashore, naked and concussed, near a reclusive monastery in a rocky, coastal portion of Lex Legim. Far from trade routes and major cities, the monks there happened upon him and, in accordance with their teachings, took him in and helped him recuperate. When he was well enough, the monks discovered he could not speak their language, and it seemed that there was something inherently lost and broken inside of their new guest. Thus, they set about teaching him their language and lifestyle.

Once he learned enough of their language, he was able to communicate with them his problem - he had no memory of any events of his life before his rescue! Having no where else to go, he dubbed himself Kai, which means 'ocean' in his native tongue (not that he knows where the other language he speaks is native to), and has spent the last 15 years training and learning under the tutelage of the other monks in the monestary. He proved to be a natural martial artist, mastering many of the monks' most difficult techniques and lores.

Then, about three months ago, he began having strange dreams about places he seemed to know, but had never seen. He decided it was time to leave his adopted friends and home and try to find out who he really is and where he came from.

Physical Description: About 5'11'', lean but strong, with tanned skin and a shock of roughly cut black hair; no facial hair. Wears loose fitting undyed pants and shirt, and worn sandals. Usually has a smile on his face.

Ok bear with me on this one Krylo. I'm going to an interesting character that should be fun.

Name: Hatchling C-28/Parn Skyshard
Snake head: Shriek
Species: Chimera - to simplify things I'll go with This (http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/37346009/?qo=1&q=chimera&qh=boost%3Apopular+age_sigma%3A24h+age_scale%3A5)
Age: 5
Morality/Ethics: Noble and self-righteous. Which is very different from Regular righteous. Snake head is battle hungry, of low intelligence and crude.
Faction: Lex
Class: Barbarian/Berserker.
Equipment: Spiffy magic control necklace, conveniently broken.
Biography: Parn was born in a government hatchery. Chimera's have been being mutated with, tested on, and used in battle for quite some time now. Parns specific race classification is Chimera breed #32. Some Magitists* believe that the 32 breed is their greatest success. They are intelligent, Capable of spoken communication, Fast, strong, very deadly, and best of all controllable. The fact that they were able to give the second head its own intelligence was a complete accident. One that has made the race very popular. The real downside to breed #32 is that they have a tendency to go berserk in tense situations. This is believed to be due to the Snake heads influence over the overall creature.

By the time Parn was born breed #32 had gotten its own small government controlled bit of land for them to grow and develop in. The Race was fashioned at hatching with a mind control necklace. That activates when the Chimera's leave a pre-selected area, or the proper incantation is cast. It is more of a failsafe then an actual means of control however as they are loyal. So after the usual Hatchery preamble, Parn was shipped off to live with his clan. He grew up fast thanks to the magic that had helped develop him. After a year he was considered a full grown Chimera. During this time his clan taught him of the war, and of battle. How to fight, and more importantly how to win. Parn has been used in active combat for 4 years now. Mostly as a counter force against other magically created beasts. Occasionally to attack an airship. They attack groups tend to range from 2-6.

On a recent mission Parns attack group was hit with a rather large fireball. The concussion of the blast knocking all of his group out of the air. His pack mates all died on impact. He managed to survive having landed in an old barn. His necklace however was broken. While unconscious he was dragged away by enemy troops. They were going to bring him to camp. In order to carve and cook him. Needless to say Parn wasn't too fond of this idea. He went into a blood rage and killed the soldiers. After escaping he discovered his own army had already fallen back under the enemy attacks. Unable to find his way back to them he has set out in search of allies in this war torn land.

Physical Description: Again This (http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/37346009/?qo=1&q=chimera&qh=boost%3Apopular+age_sigma%3A24h+age_scale%3A5). From paw to shoulder he stands about 5'. Chest to rump is about 10 feet. Tail adds another 4. He weighs around 300lbs. His necklace is made of gold and holds three Rubies. One large and two smaller. His fur is a tan color while his mane is a deep red. His scales are a pale green, and horns a pitch black. He could easily be mistaken for a demon.

Instead of weapons or magics I am throwing in this. These would be standard for all NPC Breed #32's as well.
Racial abilities: Venom - The snake head produces a toxin that slows down the nervous system of the victim.
Poison resistant - Breed #32 is resistant to all normal poisons taking half effect. It is completely immune to its own toxin.
Enhanced vision - Is able to see twice as far as normal humanoids. Maintains vision even in lowlight situations.
Statistical trade off - While its Str, Dex, & Con are all exceptional. Its Int Char & Wis are weakened and may never rise above 9. (Just as a basis for comparison.)
Blood lust - While not technically a Berserker by trade the race is prone to a berserker frenzy when thrown into tense situations.
Second head - two sets of eyes are better then one. Making it much harder to surprise a #32. Especially so sense the two heads sleep in turns.

*Magitist - A word I made up meaning a combination of a mage and a scientist. Such a word likely exists but I am tired.

The Artist Formerly Known as Hawk
12-02-2006, 08:39 AM
Name: Ultar.
Species: Minotaur.
Age: 57, middle aged for his species.
Morality/Ethics: He cares not for law and order, yet nor does he care about the chaos that is slowly engulfing the world. He seeks only one thing: his death. He lives by an ancient code of honour which determines the rules of a fair fight on the battlefield. As long as he dies in a fair fight, he will die happy. (See bio for his reasons behind this.)
Faction: Lic.
Class: Frontline warrior. As a Minotaur his strength, speed and endurance are his key abilities. A single Minotuar could break through a castle wall if given enough time and with enough effort. He can run at 30 mph with his powerfully built legs and he can also jump incredible distances. His skin is incredibly tough, it takes a LOT to bring down a Minotaur. While wounds don't rapidly heal per-se, they don't bother him as much as they would a human.
Equipment: Carries only a massive double bladed battleaxe around 7 foot in length.
Biography: Ultars' species is a dieing race. He is in fact the youngest of his people and they have been slowly diminishing for hundreds of years. As such they are now resigned to their fate and do not care for the great struggles of the world any more. This is why Ultar is fighting on the frontlines for Licentiaus. He knows death will one day take him and his people are going to dissappear forever, but HE wants to decide the time of his death and he wants his death to have been a noble and honourable one. He believes that when he dies he will be granted entry into the halls of his forefathers. But he does not care really who may win the ongoing conflict. He doesn't even really care if he fights with Lic or Lex, he just picked a side at random.
Physical Description: 12 Foot tall, basic Minotaur shape and pure black skin. He wears very little armour, both because he WANTS to die and because he doesn't need it much anyway.

Thought I'de go with something a bit more unnusual. A character who WANTS to die, surely not??!!

(Sorry IHMN but I call dibsies on moogles.)

Name: Ward (Short for Edward Turneau)/ also know by a sparse few as Pon-Pon.

Species: Currently a Moogle, formerly a human

Age: This is more complicated then you would think… the moogle body is now 27 (in whatever variant of time moogles count years) while Ward was 36 in his human body before the incident.

Morality/Ethics: A reformed villain who still plays by his own set of rules, his newfound strict code of ethics isn’t your traditional good foundations. So to summarize, he’s lawful-neutral.

Faction: Lex

Class: FF Dark Knight

Equipment: Heavily modified dark knight armor in the form of gauntlets, boots, subligar, chest plate (with wing slots) and a faceguard that wraps around his ears and the base of his puff ball. A broken great sword that appears to be to heavy for a moogle.

Biography: Edward Turneau is not a well known man, rather he was not very well known. Save for the Dumas lordship of Lex Legim where he was born into a life of luxury, raised wanting for nothing and trained to be a Dark Knight. He never wanted more to life then that, to be powerful, respected and even one day… loved. So he trained himself to kill better then the rest, only to find that the need for love diminished the more he did, this only strengthened his resolve to train. Until he no longer sought anyone to love, but only those he could kill.

He was adept at killing and stratagems, so much so that he began to toy with his opponents often at the loss of hundreds more then were necessary for victory. It was thanks to this, or more likely due to this he was removed from the battlefields and sent on more specialized missions. He was rarely if ever given command and often returned home from a successful mission without any of his comrades to show for it. No one openly acknowledged this, they merely began to send him alone out on small missions in far away lands. Edward knew this was a punishment for his bloodthirsty nature, he didn’t entirely understand why though. If he got the results they wanted why should he be banished in such a manner. Killing was what he was bred for was it not.

Soon killing grew empty, he hired on a moogle named Pon-Pon, he was a Licentiaus citizen who had no idea that a Lex Dark Knight had snuck so far into his home’s territory. Pon-Pon was originally unwilling to follow after learning of Edward’s true allegiances but the threat of death was more then enough to widen Pon-pon’s range of who it is acceptable to work for. Edward forced him to watch as he went on to kill more and more of his people.

It was this act of sadism that reawakened the simple joy of killing for Edward once more. Keep in mind though, Edward did not mistreat Pon-pon in any other way, in fact save for sight of slaughter that was forced upon him Pon-pon was treated as an honored guest. It was the only way Edward knew to treat people after his royal upbringing after all.

It was only after nearly a decade of Pon-pon’s captive watching of the slaughter of Licentiaus that Edward found a fight he could not win, while he normally picked his targets tactfully with full knowledge of their habits and skills he had grown rather complacent in his kills. He was drawn into a rather elaborate trap, apparently even though he was not well known, he had become known enough to be worthy of a hefty sum on his head. A group of five mercenaries of various classes attacked and killed him, Edward met death well taking one of the mercenaries with him. That was and should have been his end.

It was not.

Edward awoke in a daze and a panic, his heart was on fire, he felt cold all over and his throat was more dry then an elf’s sense of humor. He scrambled to a small stream and dipped his face in. As he pulled it out of the water, the reflection he expected warped with the ripples leaving only Pon-pon’s scarred and bloodied face to his gaze. It took more then a few moments for Edward to regain enough of his composure to find his corpse. He removed what gear he could and brought it to a small border town he’d held residence in quite some time, a local blacksmith reforged his equipment to meet his smaller stature and broke Edward’s blade to a more useable size. The blacksmith was rather surprised at the sudden change in Pon-pon’s demeanor but chose not to ask too many questions.

Three years to the day have passed since the day of Edward’s death, he still seeks those four mercenaries who killed him; The white mage, black mage, barbarian and druid. He seeks not only vengeance for his death, but an answer to a question too; Why did they curse him to live as he is now?

Physical Description: A steely glare from his right eye is echoed by the thick scar and black spade eye-patch over his left. The armor covering most of his form appears to be top of the line, the kind only royalty receives after they’ve proven to be of use. It’s ebony features seem to glimmer unnaturally in the light, his white fur offsets this quite shockingly. Combined with the large blue puff ball that leans behind his head and the great sword which is obviously missing the upper half of the blade if not more makes Ward a sight to behold. To say he sticks out in the crowd is like saying Mt. Everest is steep.

(P.S. This is way longer then it ought to be… I just don’t feel like cutting it down right now, what with being at work an’ all.)

If my character doesn't have any blood stored when the RP starts, can the fresh blood rule be removed? HIs goal/motivation, while not relying on stored blood, makes more sense with it. Plus, if the blood has to be fresh, that would actually make him not kill as often, since he would need to keep the person alive to get more blood (As opposed to draining the body, which would give him plently of blood for a long time).

The Argent Lord
12-03-2006, 08:56 PM
And Argent: the only issue I have here is A) How much stronger? And B) You realize that only the replaced limb is going to be more powerful, right? I mean, having a hand is going to make you able to crush things in your fist pretty easily, but you aren't going to be able to lift things more easily or punch harder (though it'd hurt more 'cause it's metal). So I'm not sure how much stronger he would have been as a child. At present he probably has a really mean right(?) hook and can do things with that arm which would generally be rather impossible for a normal person. However, his off hand isn't going to have any extra strength at all.
A) I dunno. I'd say the original replaced hand(when he was a kid) was about adult strength. He could hit hard, like you said, because it was metal, and make a show of strength by crushing thing he normally couldn't. The new replaced arm is about four times as strong as an average soldier's.
B) That's true. I'd say he's still probably a bit stronger than most people, because he's been fighting and training since he was a kid. I plan on him relpacing other parts of his body during the campaign, based on observations during the fights, if it's ok with you.

Name: Gavald Telnar
Species: Mostly Human
Age: 28
Morality/Ethics: Any action is admissable in the pursuit of personal enhancement.
Faction: Lic
Class: Fighter/Researcher
Equipment: Metal arm

Ok, everyone so far is approved, 'cept Xravi. Who is probably approved too, but I need some clarification on his guy's ability.

Xrav: Are you basically an illusionist? You can make people hallucinate? Or are the hallucinations real? I mean... I need to know how powerful this is. You also really need to work on the grammar and spelling. It irritates pretty much everyone to RP with someone with poor grammar in their posts. Basically: I'm giving you a chance here, but you're going to have to write longer posts, and write them well.

Also, something for you guys to keep in mind, we're going to be starting on a battlefield right before the battle. So you might want to start thinking of how/why you'd be there right now. Realize that your factions are meant to decide which side you're fighting at in the beginning... so, yeah. Figure it out.

I'll probably start this in a few days.

Amazingly, I didn't think about how well this character fit's in with Lex Legim when I made him. I just like the idea of snakes for hair.

Name: Cobalt
Species:Half-Erinyes/Furie (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Furies)
Age: 58
Morality/Ethics: Cobalt is an almost fanatic believer in Justice. He will do the "just" thing, even at an expense to himself. While the punishments he devises are often harsh, he will rarely, if ever, kill someone.
Faction: Lex Legim
Class: Justicar
Equipment: Cobalt dislikes the heavy armor favored by most soldiers, and wears a light suite of chain mail with the Lex Legim symbol on it instead. His weapon of choice is of his own invention. Resembling a cross between a grappling hook and a long handled poker, it has four spikes that curve inward, along with one spike facing outward, with two spikes at 45 degree angles from it, to catch weapons. The handle is slightly shorter then the length of a long sword. He also carries an ordinary morning star at his side.

Biography: Cobalt's mother was retired Furie named Coreacles. After many thousands of years, punishing mortals for various wrongs, she began to grow tired of it. So she settled down, magically altered her appearance, and eventually she met his father. When Cobalt was born, she used the same magic in order to disguise him. She managed to keep this up for 16 years.
Some time after Cobalt turned 15 the area they lived in flooded. They managed to evacuate in time, but in the end Coreacles was too exhausted to keep the illusions up. When he saw his son and wife turn into monsters Cobalt's father was in shock. After that things happened quickly. Harsh words were said, and in the end both parents agreed leave, both their son and each other. Cobalt's father returned to his village, and Coreacles went back to avenging.
Cobalt was left to do whatever he wanted with himself. After being under the affect of alteration magic for so long, Cobalt had gained the ability to change his form to an extent. He can change some aspects of himself (replacing his snakes with hair for example) easily, but other changes (like growing claws or the like) are slow and difficult. If he is too tired to maintain the shape change his body will "snap" back into his first form.
Armed with this, and a powerful urge to correct any injustice from his Furie ancestors, he set out.
After 40 or so years of this he discovered the Lex Legim military. Admiring their causes he joined them, his dedication earning him rapid promotion through the ranks.

Physical Description: Cobalt has taken many forms over the years, but there are two forms that pertain to this time. His basic form, and the form he takes as a human.
Basic form: In this form Cobalt is vaguely human shaped. Two rather small bat wings sprout from his back, and his skin is covered with small, slightly octagonal scales. Red snakes sprout from his head, each one with thin green lines along it's body.
Human form: When posing as a human, Cobalt takes the form of a tall wiry albino. In other words his hair is white, and his eyes are red. He has a large burn on his left arm, along with a small scar on his otherwise moderately good-looking face.

Now that I think about it I dont want to be in this rp. Oh and sorry about the grammer I fail at engliamish.

Mintaro
12-05-2006, 09:24 PM
As a general note regarding spelling and grammar for all RPers. There are lots of nice programs online you can download to help you with this subject. Most of them download right into your internet browser. Allowing you to check both in these nifty little text boxes we write in. Also Dictionary.com (http://www.dictionary.com) is great as a spell checker and a thesaurus. Nothing gets more boring than using the same word over and over again. In a repetitive style even. Except maybe reading it.

Lets face it, the American education system let most of us down when it comes to English.

And while I'm at it I might as well add in. Don't forget to try to create different kinds of characters. If you are not sure what kind of personality you should give a character for a role play. Go ahead and think about what personality you have never written. Then try it. Sure it might not always work out. But it helps you expand as a writer, as an RPer, and as a person. There is no story without conflict.

Also Edited my Bio to make it easier to read as per Krylo's request I missed. And after much thought and consideration I decided my Character will be on Lex. Sense they are more organised, it seems more likely for them to have government labs creating beasts of war.

IHateMakingNames

Before I protest the fresh blood rule (more), what do you mean by fresh? Moments after taken out of the body? A week later? A month? However long it takes blood to dry up in a vial?

If it's to fresh the ability is worthless.

Edit - Actually, besides being semi-customizable (He can do a lot, but never very well unless he drains a person, which limits him to that persons abilities), I don't see how having long lasting blood is that overpowered. The worst is if he spent a lot of time min/maxing with many different blood samples (Which is/was actually part of his master plan, so it wouldn't happen in RP)

Krylo

Book: What's a ferromancer? A magician who controls ferrous metals or something?

IHMN: Alright, he can drink it from vials, but I'd like you to start with either a very limited amount, or no blood.

Mintaro

A ferromancer is a person who uses technology advanced enough that it seems like magic. For example a TV would seem like magic to a man from ancient Rome.

At least thats the closest I can figure it out to be. You can also consider the crafting of armor to be Ferromancy. Or even just forging a dagger. Its kind of an open term sense its Latin for Metal magic (I think).

Well I was a) tired/working and b) waiting for bookworm and a few other people who were saying they were gonna sign up. However, the natives are getting restless.

Anyway, two important people. Namely, your commanding officers.

Name: General Kalin Martise
Species: Human
Age: 57
Morality/Ethics: The church and the nobility are his life, his breath, his bread, and his love. He shall fight for the divine right of his royal family until the last, with unbending honor and loyalty.
Faction: Lex Legim
Class: Paladin
Equipment: He wields a great and magical zweihander that glows with a holy fire to strike down enemies of the church, as well as silver platemail, forged with magic to make it indestructible.
Physical Description: Though he is past his prime, General Martise still stands tall and proud at just over six feet, a stern expression generally worn upon his weathered, face. A strong chin is hidden beneath a short well trimmed beard, and piercing steel-grey eyes peer from beneath will trimmed grey hair.

Name: Captain Talis Sinkar
Species: Elf
Age: 257
Morality/Ethics: Captain Sinkar fights for freedom, and he is willing to do anything necessary to protect the freedom of his people, no matter the cost.
Faction: Licentius
Class: Ranger/Swordsman
Equipment: A pair of weakly enchanted longswords, which he wields together, mythril chainmail, and a non-magical but high quality composite longbow.
Physical Description: Talis is a lithe man, as most elves are, with long black hair that hangs down to his mid back, and a boyish countenance, which makes him look at least fifty years younger than he really is.

Yes.

I though we were going to wait until everyone had made an entry post before starting the battle propper? Yes, I know I made a second post before we were all in, but that was simply too good an oportunity to resist, and I didn't go on and have everyone engage the enemy.

There just didn't seem to be any transition between waiting for the battle to start, and being flung full on into battle there.

TheBlindMime
12-12-2006, 03:00 PM
I was at work and was very, very bored when I saw the battle had commenced.

There probably should have been a point at which the two leader characters should have discussed possible terms. So if Krylo deems it so we could all ignore those last posts for more of a tension building process, then we could repost them all later.

So we should probably wait for Krylo's verdict on the battle.

I do so hate the waiting.

IHateMakingNames
12-12-2006, 04:10 PM
krylo hinted that the battle started with saying the forces met, though no one took that as meaning fighting.

I was just waiting for some one to start the battle in a stupid manner. IC and Hawk were close, but didn't actually start it. However, TBM fixed it by pointing out that the Lic mages/archers would fire first.

As for intro posts, I say damn the lazy (And I am one of them). Let the people who are ready (Like TBM) have some fun. It's a war battle, each person could write pages and only cover 5 minutes. Pre-battle stuff can be done in the beginning of posts for the late people.

And while I agree with TBM's terms thing, that requires more work from krylo, which is a horrible thing to rely on.

Yeah I was tempted at that point to just have Lic charge, but I was going for a dramatic build up. Battles usually begin with some small skirmishes just to warm up. Plus as I said, I was trying to allow the others to make their entries.

But never mind, the battle seems to be in full swing now so I guess I'll just backtrack a little and begin the charge.

There probably should have been a point at which the two leader characters should have discussed possible terms.

I don't think that is really needed. The exchanging of terms is usually reserved for massively important battles, whereas this strikes me more of a search and destroy patrol on behalf of Lex. These guys are clearly here to wipe each other out, not sign peace treaties.

Tarrin
12-12-2006, 07:11 PM
I agree with hawk on this one, I believe that the only terms from either side would be surrender or be destroyed, and i doubt very much either would surrender.

I made my first move in the battle just in this post so i hope the rest of the gang is ready with their entrances i see this getting bloody for all of us.

Krylo
12-12-2006, 07:49 PM
Indeed. The battle was supposed to be met, and I thank TBM for noting the mages and archers firing first. I was going to do that, then saw he had, then realized I felt like shit and went to take a nap >> <<
