I've been looking at red steel and how it controls with the wiimote to control the main sword hand and the gun. I personally love it. Anybody's input on other game's control styles are of course helpful in the purchasing process of the game, so stack up the posts people.

DAMN YOU LITTLE NOISY FAIRY DIE.
*cough*
I don't like the way fishing works in TP. It just isn't fun. Haven't played with the combat enough.

Red Steel has too many other things wrong with it.
Combat in Twilight Princess is pretty straightforward and comfortable, in my opinion. However, running out of batteries while in a dungeon is lame. Also, the horizontal mirror aspect of the Wii version is slightly silly, at least in regards to things like Link's handedness, people's parts in their hair, Midna's wonderful eye, etc. But I digress... these are not related to controls.
Monkey Ball is odd playing on the Wii, as it was much easier with a non-moving controller. Sometimes it feels like the degree of movement on the screen does not correspond well with your movement - as if it's either too insensitive or sensitive at times.

You're pretty much dead on, but Red Steel is supposed to be re-released with a LOT of bugfixes, I can try to dig up the web article again.

I hope they get rid of the horrible rim lighting (it really serves to make characters and objects look flat, like sprites, instead of instilling any sense of realistic lighting to me) and all the jagged edges.
I understand that they cannot fix the voice acting.
Note: I'm sure these are not the "bugs" that they plan to fix.

I thought the idea was to have RS look comic book like. I liked it..*cry* I'm just looking forward to the re-release and the next generation of controllers, possibly with better refresh times or something.

This may be off topic but I wanted to ask: does everyone hold the wiimote with their elbows cocked out to the right or is that just the losers on the commercials? Does the wiimote HAVE to be held like that to use it properly or something?
If I just called you a loser I apologize. Well, not really, it just looks so ridiculous.

No you can hold it however you want as long as what you are doin can be picked up by the sensor bar.

Or you know, two candles, any two infrared sources can replace the sensor bar BTW.

Wait wait wait... they changed Link's handedness? What blasphemy is this? And why?
Demetrius
12-08-2006, 12:56 AM
Well the reasoning is sorta obvious, you hold the remote in your right hand, it controls your sword movements, so it would ruin the immersion aspects if you swung with your right hand and Link swung with his left.

Personally, I'd rather just swing with my left hand. It needs the work anyway.
Come to think of it, now all the genuinely left-handed people are screwed.

The combat control scheme in TP works very well. I had to turn off the fairy cursor because a) the noise was driving me crazy and b) it actually made aiming harder for me.
I need to go back and play now. I'm experiencing deprivation from the time it took to make this post.

Yes.
Link has been left-handed in EVERY game except for this one, and you know what, it's about time you right handed people had to deal with SOMETHING not designed specifically for you. I mean, left handed people have to twist their wrists weird to write so they don't drag their hand over their writing and smudge it. Left handed people are at a disadvantage in driving stick because they have to use their off hand to shift. Left handed people ALWAYS end up with goddamn right handed scissors during art classes, which are painful to use. Left handed people have to use their off hand to operate the mouse, giving them an immediate disadvantage in any competitive video game utilizing the mouse (all FPS's if you use the most efficient control set up). Left handed people are screwed enough. Give us a single freakin' game that should have had the protagonist left handed in the first place!
Although, honestly, one thing to remember is that BECAUSE of all that crap, left-handed people aren't really screwed. The majority of us are actually about half-way to ambidexterity because society forces it upon us. Though not as bad as it was.

You can always get the gamecube version. *snicker*
I can agree that you should have been able to choose which hand was the primary one. I don't understand the whole "we have to switch the world from left to right" thing anyway because there are no really weird passages that I've seen that need you to be handed one way or the other.
And like other people and I said before, which hand you use to play doesn't really matter besides immersiveness. Swinging the wiimote is basically equatable to a button press because it doesn't follow your motion, just the fact that it moved.

Oh shit, he really is (http://www.mario64.nl/toplink.gif)!
How the fuck did I play through fourteen fuckin' years of Zelda games and never notice Link was a southpaw?

Honestly, it's one of the things I've always liked about Link. He's the only hero I know of who's actually left-handed, like me. I know it's completely stupid, but I feel like I was robbed of something there. I mean, it's a ridiculous reason to draw a connection to a hero, but hey, there ya go.
Also, you didn't notice because you're a damned blind idiot.

You see... the problem is that if we allow you lefties to have link, soon you will want Gordon freeman or master chief... then, those damn color blinded people will want equality too, and if we give on that, society as we know will cease to exist! So Nay i Say!
Also, i must say that with all the Wiimotes flying around, i have concerns about the Lightgun acessory...

Everyone tries to forget the CDI and the Cartoon Zelda games.
What's funnier is when older games on the Super (Not sure about Link or not) usually had the whole "side switch" problem, where whenever you turned around their whole character suddenly became right/left hand at the drop of a dime. Especially in a game like Street Fighter, where their lead hand was always the one towards the background.

In Zelda, if he was facing you he was left handed. If he was facing away from you he was left handed. However, he always had his shield facing north from the side. They rationalized this in the LttP strategy guide, however, as 'even though Link is left handed, it is Hyrulian superstition to always keep your shield toward death mountain.' Or something like that.

You know, nothing is stopping lefties from putting the mouse on the dominant side. In fact, due to the keyboard layout and <insert at least two HCI theories/rules here that I don't want to bother boring you with>, you'd be at an advantage that way.
Honestly, it's just a bluetooth remote. I really wouldn't be put off by making a few movements with my right wrist only to have Link swing from his left hand. It's not that difficult to understand. Nintendo, you fiends!
Also, related to various controller incidents (http://www.wiihaveaproblem.com), it seems Nintendo is not just giving silly safety tips but also looking into providing a thicker wrist cord. I am told that the current one is the second-thinnest possible.

Well I got my Wii about 2 and a half days ago, hence me being absent from the forums, and in that time have managed to rack up 28 hours Zelda playtime and 4 hours of Wii sports. And I feel fine, no problems.
Anyway I miss lefty Link, they didn't really need to change it, but other than that I have no problems with TP's controls, combat is awesome, the Wiimote rocks for aiming and I like fishing, especially lure fishing(reeling is, well sweet). In Wii Sports I like bowling and golf. Baseball is okay but tennis and boxing piss me off.
Oh and I use the Wii left handed, it's nice to have a system with that option, not that it matters now, videogames have long since made me ambidextrous.
Also what's the problems with batteries? I've only had to change them once.
Oh and I'm picking up Wii Play later in the week with a free controller.

Anyone has more info about the lawsuit against nintendo about the Wiimote being a copy of a similar Pc Mouse patented a few years ago?

31 hours now Kiki.
On the suit Bellsouth, what I've heard is that it's not actually to do with the motion sensing tech or anything like that, rather it is to do with the placement of the B Trigger, which looking at the N64 controller says this lawsuit is bunk unless the plaintiff's tech predates 1995. And seeing as how it's wireless I doubt it. Even then it probably wouldn't fly.
