The capital had been destroyed. However, its destruction had not brought the swift victory the enemy had expected, and the war had only continued to escalate. Everywhere there is madness, and not a single day passes by without another life being lost. Whatever peace is found is spent mourning for the dead and exchanging final words with those who would join them.
However, none of that concerns you. After all, you're not the ones setting out to save the world. After all, you've got an even bigger problem on your hands.
Make that two problems.
---
The official title of this RP should be "The Adventures of Cid and Magdrafarian". But, at the time I made the title, I didn't feel like typing that out, and I'm too lazy to change it now. In any case, this RP is about handling the small problems in the midst of all the chaos.
That isn't to say your characters will be normal; quite the opposite really. But whatever powers they have aren't going to be used for saving the world, someone else can do that. Instead, you'll have to deal with Cid and Magdrafarian, who will be played by their creators, Axl and Mr. Viewtiful. I won't have my own character either, rather I'll manage the "extras" of the story.
Consider it an experiment on a different kind of RP for these forums. If there are any questions, feel free to ask them.

Why would we be "handling" them? Who are they?

I'll express interest until something comes along and disinterests me.
I second PLA's question who are Cid and Magdrafarian?
Also I believe with my interest that puts us to five people. Though 3 of us are technically gm's.
Oh, new question, how many people do we need for this to run?

Pyros likes any name as complex as Magdrafarian, and also enjoys pie.
Interested.

I third that question. Who are they?
But so far, I'm interested.

And add another line onto your interest scoreboard.
Or...scorepie.
Whatever you use.

Well then, it seems that it's now appropriate to add more information.
Cid and Mag Drafarian are characters from a previous RP based off Final Fantasy. Cid and Magdrafarian were a chemist and a mechanic respectively, who...had their quirks. Quircks that could, if left unchecked, could get everyone else around them killed in an "experiment". Though that original RP died off, my friends decided they'd like another chance to play those characters, and I basically agreed to GM it.
In this story, instead of going along with the heroes to stop the war, Cid and Magdrafarian decided that there they really didn't feel like doing it. Seperating from them, they begin their own adventures.

So, it's the misadventures of Cid and Magdrafarian, and everyone else plays extras, or at best minor characters that those two happen to interact with?

Not really.
It's like a general RP in which a whole bunch of people get together for various reasons, only this time the goals aren't as obvious.
Hell, it'd be just as random as a lot of the RPs around here.

I can't beleieve Ecurt is actually trying to pull this off. Add me to the "interested" list.

...you guys do remember it was your idea in the first place, right?
Blah.
In any case, if anyone feels like making a character sheet, here are the ones that were originally used for the last RP.
Name: Mag Drafarian
Physical Traits: Mag is in his late 20's, and it shows: his build is still slightly toned, but starting to show some depreciating from his absense from the regular military regimen; also, his fairly average height of about 5'9" won't impress anyone. He normally wears his short brown hair as a messy semi-mop top, with his bangs nearly reaching his keen grey eyes. He is usually found wearing a pair of circular glasses, due to a slight case of myopia that runs in the family.
Since leaving the N'revat military, he's dressed like a commoner for the most part: he wears a loose blue tunic with a faded black mechanic's jumpsuit, with the shirt segment dangling behind him; many aboard The Private Tear wonder why he wears one when he's not a mechanic, but he thinks it looks cool. Still, he's kept his standard-issue military boots and his chemist-division necklace, a silver chain with an ornamental flask medallion danging around his neck.
What makes him stand out the most, however, is the assortment of belts and bandoliers he dons, each one containing some type of ready-made, unlabled concoction which does who-knows-what. On top of it all, he carries a leather backpack with basic supplies in it (rations, ingredients for his work, a notepad with pen, etc.).
Class: Chemist
Main Skill: Item Use
As a chemist, Mag is proficient in using nearly any Final Fantasy item (i.e.: potions, pheonix downs, ethers, etc.) one could think of. This includes both administering medicines to their maximum effect, as well as whipping them up in the heat of combat. Unlike most soldiers, chemists can also literally throw items in the general vicinity of his intended target for the item to take effect ("Throw Item" skill from FFT).
Secondary Skill: Alchemy
Mag took his studies futher than most other chemists in the military, and was able to brew up some peculiar items that are very effective in combat. Among his creations are smoke bombs, small chemical explosives, and various poisons. Since his defection, he's put this skills to better use on Captian Kith'Kannan's ship. While not as powerful as a mage's Firaga or a mighty knight's sword techniques, Mag's alchemic pwoesss is able to keep him out of trouble in a pinch. The effectiveness of these items have increased since he started conentrating on exeriments once again after joining Kith'Kannan's crew.
Background: Born into a family with little income, Mag always strived to make things better for the ones he loved. This led to what some may call "crazy experiments," resulting in "damage to public property." Normally, one so reckless would be put in jail, but instead the N'Revat government decided to put Mag into the military, recognizing his talent with in the chemical field and how it'd go to waste rotting in jail (not to mention his wages would go towards paying for the damages).
Since then, Mag studied hard in the Technological Division of the military, advancing into the chemist division at the age of 15. There he honed his talents into usable skills, and became proficient in the usage of chemicals and drssing in the combat field, and joined an actual combat regiment two years later as the role of a medic.
After ten long years of combat, with his debt to society repaid, Mag was finally discharged dishonorably from the military for being caught repeatedly treating the wounded from Rab's military; they let him off easy, since the soldiers in question were easily "taken care of" without anyone knowing the better. Dejected, the 27-year-old Drafarian drifted between towns looking for work. After weeks, he finally recieved a tip that an airship captain by the name of Jack Kith'Kannan was looking for some talented engineers to crew his airship. Mag eventually met Capt. Jack and joined his crew, and has been serving aboard The Private Tear ever since (about two years' time).
Extra info: Before leaving the military, Mag served with several different units, and thus is pretty familiar with most "classes" people may specialize in. Also, due to his serving in a diverse amount of units, he gets along easily with most people that give him a chance, and may even be familiar with some soldiers.
In addition to his various raw materials and miscellanious creations, Mag carries the following items: Potion x4, Hi-Potion x1, Soft x2, Antidote x3, Eyedrops x3, Echo Screen x2, Bandages, and two hypodermic needles with painkiller salves for the most grievous of injuries. Mag can make homebrew versions of the above items in addition to his alchemic weaponry, but they tend to not be as effective as the real deal.
If you can't tell, Mag will be filling the role of healer/specialist, and will easily fill in for the token White Mage when magic isn't the best idea.Name: Cid Grigori
Physical Traits: With a near lifetime of doing some sort of labor, Cid is well-muscled with experience. His beard is kept to emphasize his thirty years of age and his short dark brown hair is always in a greasy mess- just the way he likes it.
His only change of clothes is a jumpsuit which he has only replaced 5 times in 10 years. Also, he sports a pair of goggles designed to filter out bright light (mainly for welding purposes).
Class: Engineer (Machinist)
Main Skill: Tools
Because he has been working with the same set of tools for almost all of his life, Cid has gained an immense familiarity with the tools of his trade- to the extent that he can wield them effectively in battle. The tools which are actually feasible in combat range from a specialized chainsaw used for cutting metal, to personal contraptions such as the Automatic Crossbow.
Secondary Skill: Technical Mastery
As an expert machinist, Cid is proficient in the maintenance and repair of many objects including machinery, weapons, armor and even mobile suits (Magitek). If materials are at hand, then Cid is able to temporarily mend a weapon during battle or completely restore it to the best of his ability out of battle.
Background History: Born into a working class family, Cid quickly took ti his father's mechanic trade. At a young age he began to show an exceptional prowess in the repair and construction of machines using the schematics supplied. Soon after, schematics became defunct in his case.
As the years passed Cid gained fame for his various inventions, including the Automatic Crossbow and the Incandescent Bulb (both of which are still too complex for mass production, although the military has invested research in both items).
The military soon began to take a greater interest in Cid's work and attempted to recruit him. Cid, being naturally distrustful of the military, soon took flight with some of his most important plans and specialized tools.
In the next 15 years, nobody has kept a cohesive track on Cid's whereabouts. 5 years after Cid escaping the military, the dawn of airships occured. Among those in the machine trade, rumours of all sorts about Cid's involvement in the creation of the first successful design exist; the military has never released any comment to this line of thinking however.
Nowadays, those looking for the ace engineer can try their luck searching among the pirate airships navigating the skies. Where Cid is able to further practice the trade he loves with the freedom and more importantly, the funds, necessary.
Extra Info:
Tools run on combustible fuel- so spamming the chainsaw or the drill or anything of that sort. Also, they are collapsible allowing for improved portability. Having grown accustomed to the dangerous nature of airship travel, Cid is readily prepared to grab a power tool and charge in to defend the ship. For most combat purposes, Cid prefers the crowbar above all in his basic arsenal.
An extreme enthusiast of human ingenuity, Cid believes there is no objective that magic alone can completely cover for.
Other Basic Info:
N'Revat: Nation most of these people were from. There used to be a capital, but that got smashed by airships and meteors.
Rab: Other nation. More magically inclined, but still fairly close to N'Revat in terms of technology.
Not much else is needed to know about this world, and you can pretty much make things up to suit your character (since, in the grand scheme of things, it won't really affect the RP itself).
Of course we remember, and of course we're pumped.
Hah, already did the character and everything.

Nope.
Shoot, you could be a teletubby for all I care. Though, that'd probably put you on the top of everyone's TK list.
