So I get an automatic update for windows media, sure thing.

Starts downloading windows media 11. Righteous. It was an OK player before, they have added something on to make it better, right? Wrong.

The new version is shit for one simple reason, they don't let you deselect the "album" column. It makes no sense. Why make that mandatory? Why should I HAVE to see what album the song is on? Why are you FORCING ME?! :stressed:

I have a lot of assorted artists, so now, instead of being able to see 50 song titles neatly stacked on top of each other like in the previous version, the new format only shows like 20. My library is now 3 times longer to scroll. It just ticks me off.

If you have version 10, keep it.

Microsoft turning a semi-decent program into crapware?

Oh shit I did not see this one coming.

I wasn't surprised either, and I don't think anyone who reads will be... but it's a warning nevertheless.

So, why are you using windows media for music instead of say... winamp, in the first place?

That's a very good question. I think because I had a lot of trouble with moving the files i downloaded using k-lite to the winamp folder. I have winamp, i just don't use it. the files would just go right into windows media, making it so easy.

Just drag and drop into a winamp playlist and you're all set. Heck save the playlist even and don't report everthing you do to Microsoft.

You can also use the library function on winamp to search your entire hard drive for media, then move your entire library into a play list, then just delete and re-save the playlist everytime you hit something you don't want on it.

My problem with Media player lies in the fact that it's "Codec Download Service" sucks. I'm trying my damndest to find some .avi codecs right now, which I would have thought media player would have played 'out of box'.

I used to use DivX for my vids, but my issue with DivX is that it seems so damned bloated. It slows everything down way too much. Media Player doesn't tend to do that, unless there's a problem.

So, any suggestions? Should I keep trying to drum up codecs that Media Player is supposedly downloading already, or should I just go with another program?

I just use Itunes, Media player for me is like... movies and stuff and to see the movies i make in action.

I just use Itunes

all I could think was *sucker!*

I've seriously gotta stop torrenting...

VLC or mplayer. For the love of god, VLC or mplayer. The first is much easier to set up, however.

You might want to look into VLC or Media Player Classic.

Edit: ...And I was beaten to the punch.

:/ I don't see what's wrong with it. You can select to organize by artist instead, and your playlists stay the same. Actually, I PREFER it for the number of videos I watch anyway. I've been using it since October and I actually like it.

Specifically, I like the way it all blends and just generally looks nicer. the Black Aero look makes it look sleek and shiny. I have my MSN live matching it, and I'm purchasing Vista Ultimate to complete the set Next Month, since the Beta doesn't like me. ^.^

Really, all the programs blend well.

I use RealPlayer. It's always been good to me, so I haven't updated WMP since... *checks* v7.

Plus, I run an old old Windows, so yeah.

Winamp and iTunes are crucial to Windows.

iTunes crucial to Windows. I can't believe I just typed that.

iTunes? Isn't that the thing for playing music and buying it online?

Heh. Suckers.

iTunes supports piracy more than you believe.

For example, it rips to MP3.

Talk about bonus points.

Just like with Adobe Photoshop CS (Where Adobe took out some neat features from PS7.) Microsoft took out some neat features from WMP v10 in WMP v11. For example, Disabling of individual tracks has now been lost! (You can bypass this by using cdplayer.exe and deleting certain tracks and re-adding them from the CD List.)

Talk about bonus points.

You know and I know... MORE SPACE REQUIRED = YOU SUCK in terms of media players. Although people don't understand that all the time. Why not get Winamp I ask. They say "Oh, what's winamp?" Seriously, anyone who says that should be slapped.

I use RealPlayer. It's always been good to me, so I haven't updated WMP since... *checks* v7.

RealPlayer? What the hell is that? No really, RealPlayer sucks IMO, it takes alot of resources it doesn't need to take.

I would use Winamp, except I have these convient play/pause/stop buttons on the front of my lappy, which it doesn't support.

So...eh. Unless there's some magical way to get Winamp to listen to my awesome buttons, I'll be sticking with the default.

Um...turn on global hotkeys?

That always does it for me.
