View Full Version : Ever bought a game more than once?

Simple question: Have you ever bought the same game more than once?

I have. I've owned three different copies of SSX3. I bought the game for the PS2 when it was first released, completed it, and promptly took it back to the store. Two or Three years later, I spot a pre-owned copy of it for a rather nice price, and played it to death again. When I finally got rid of my PS2 when I got my 360, I found another pre-owned copy of it (this time for the xbox) and currently replaying it, all over again.

Do I regret it? Hell to the no! It's the only EA game I haven't felt ripped off about for a long while.

I've bought a copy of SSBM about, oh, 4 separate times. Either my dogs would destroy it, or I'd loan it to someone and never get it back.

It's always been worth it, though; I love that game.

Gitaroo Man, although this is more due to Amazon tarding out than anything else. It's a long story.

Add SSBM to the list.

Shinobi. I don't know where it went, but my house ate it twice.

I had to buy KOTOR twice, cause my factory-sealed-not-a-scratch-on-it disc decided to stop working for god knows what reason. I bought a used copy that's in pretty bad shape, but I've never got around to actually putting it in the Xbox to see if it worked...

My brother and I have bought multiple copies of GoldenEye. Back in '97, our mom made us sell our copy cause the game was so violent. *eyeroll* We've bought several replacement copies in recent years, but many of them have been faulty and have just died. I think we're on cartridge four right now.

Fable.

... yeah. I don't think I need to explain my borderline stupidity in that decision.

What? You weren't the only one who bought Fable, only to later have to buy Fable: The Actual Game.

I think I bought Grim Fandango twice because I lost the first one. Though I think I've managed to loose the second one also...

I never actually have, but I have to say this: I completely understand losing a good game and buying it again (indeed, I'd be buying FF6 for the SNES again if not for the fact that I still have some kind of forlorn hope it will be returned to me), but what I've never quite understood is why people sell old systems and games when new ones come out... I mean, I still plug in Contra, or the original Legend of Zelda, or, hell, even Ice Hockey into my NES from time to time.

Just seems like a waste to me, especially considering you're either going through more work than just getting a day job trying to sell everything individually for the highest price... or getting like a couple hundred for an entire generation worth of games, so you can get like... a console and maybe two games out of it. And being able to afford even the full console means you got lucky. Seems like an unfair trade.

I'd just like to know WHY people do this?

Once you move on to the next generation previous generations are avaible through emulation.

Krylo
12-10-2006, 04:55 PM
I've emulated, and its nowhere near the same trying to play games originally designed for a console on your computer. It really really really isn't.

Mirai Gen
12-10-2006, 05:00 PM
Its because people have some sort of strangely twisted hope that, with luck, the stuff they are exchanging is something they're "Done with".

Of course, as any good gamer knows, you don't trade in your childhood to buy the new and improved childhood, because the new and improved one isn't yours.

Of course, as any good gamer knows, you don't trade in your childhood to buy the new and improved childhood, because the new and improved one isn't yours.Amen.

I don't game that much anymore--it's probably been more than a month now since the last time I played something--but when I do, more often that not, it's an SNES or N64 game.

Hell, I only own three games for the post-N64 generation of consoles. When I buy games these days, they're usually old ones I never picked up when I was a kid.

I bought Rainbow Six 3 for my cube, traded it in. Later realized I wanted it again, bought it for my PS2. It sucked on PS2, so I traded it in again and bought it for Cube. Again.

I bought Rainbow Six Lockdown for my Gamecube, then bought it for PC.

Oh, and silly me. I bought NHL 06 for my Gamcube. This year, I bought NHL 07 for my Gamecube. Then I had a bandtrip, so I bought NHL 07 for my PSP. They were all exactly the same.

Yes, I'm fully aware that unloving stuff is about to be thrown at me for mentioning a few of what I bought twice. Still, I come forth and bravely proclaim the games that I have bought twice.

Chrono Cross (Disc 1 went haywire.)
Shadow Hearts (Never got it back from a friend...who is now no longer a friend.)
Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure (First broke, and I have no clue why I bought a second or why I play it.)
Various Gamecube ports (Skies of Arcadia Legends, Evolution Worlds, Sonic Adventure DX, Resident Evil 1, 2 and Veronica, Legend of Zelda, blah blah blah...)
A few XBox ports and upgrade games (Fatal Frame 1 and 2, Dead or Alive Ultimate, Ninja Gaiden Black)
Some SNES games (Megaman X, Super Mario All Stars, Kirby Super Star, Super Mario RPG, SM World 1 and 2, Final Fantasy Mystic Quest, Mario Kart...)

FF8's the only one I can think of out of hand, the house ate discs 2 and 3, still got two copies of discs 1 and 4 though.

And I never sell old games and systems, got my NES set up in my room right now. Late night Dr Mario to unwind FTW.

*blink* My sister got her DDR game working which hereforeto has never worked. So I put my original KOTOR game in--just to see--and it too is working.

Now I have two working copies of the same game.

But I'm hesitant to sell the one I just bought. What if this one stops working again and I'm forced to buy it once more?

Well, I haven't yet bought Halo 2 for the second time, but I will soon.

My mom took a hammer to my Xbox 1, and took many, spirited whacks at it. The thing was surprisingly resiliant, but the DVD drive got dented, and the Halo disc got cracked. So, now I need to go get another copy.

We (me and my dad) have bought Diablo II plus expansion three times. One for our computer, one for my mom's computer, and one for my brother's computer while he was visiting. You know, LANing Diablo II with your dad and older brother, totally normal not-at-all-social-outcaste-lonely-freakshow family bonding. Which is normal.

I bought Skies of Arcadia for the Dreamcast twice, both used. The first time was through Ebay, and for some reason the game wouldn't play in my machine, even though it looked unscratched and such. Found it again many moons later and grabbed it. Still worth every penny. One of these days I might have to track it down for the GameCube, just cuz.

FFVII, let a friend borrow the first copy, and he lost it.

Breath of Fire 3, same damn friend.

FFVIII, lost first copy.

Diablo II, maybe bought three times, I'm not sure.

Star Ocean 2, lost to a friend.

DMC3, collectors edition.

All the Sonic and Megaman games, because I bought the GC collections.

While not games, I've bought two PS1s and GCs, because one broke. I also have three working Sega Genesis, and I don't know why.

You too? Jeez, I have more Segas and Nintendos than I can count.

I even have, like, 2 Sega CD things.

Which was good for like, one game.

It was an RPG, appropriately enough. What was the name of that game again?

The original version of Lunar was on Sega CD.

Also:

I mean, not that I did in the first place, but now... well, I guess it's about the same as ever.

I just did recently, actually.

I re-bought the GBA Castlevania games "Circle of the Moon" and "Harmony of Dissonance".

But I have done the same with other games in the past. I have a nasty tendency to trade in old games for new ones...including ones I really wish I wouldn't of (do you have any idea how much I could get for Ogre Battle 64?! What the heck was I thinking?!)

Titles that pop into my head include Drakengard (didn't like it much the first time, but enjoyed it the second time around), MechCommander 2 (because I lost the disc...still had the instruction manual, but not the disc), Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow (I think I re-bought it when Dawn of Sorrow came out), and Darkwatch (beat it the first time I owned it...had a desire to play it again that burned out quickly, so I traded it again).

Resident Evil 4. Waited until it went down to $20 though. (Grab it if you haven't, GotY 2005 baby!)

Silent Hill is now replaced.

As is Off-World World Interceptor Extreme (The name is meant to be a joke... I think.)

And I WANT to replace the copy of Xenogears that slipped into the ether.

6 copies of San Andreas for PC for Multi Theft Auto machinima goodness...
The investment still hasen't payed off yet but it will.... soon... hopfully...

I can never seem to keep hold of one of the greatest console FPS games ever...
Timesplitters: Future Perfect
Bought it 3 times now and I need to go buy it again (Its actually hard to get a hold of I found out since its such a good game).

I bought FFXII twice so far so my friends wouldn't start always wanting my disk when I am playing it.

I've never, no. The only disc I've ever had that's been damaged to the point that it wouldn't play is my copy of Final Fantasy Tactics. But, instead of buying a whole new copy (oh and I tried, damn that game was hard to find), I bought a disc repair and cleaning kit.

Worked like a charm!

I have a few copies of NFL Gameday 98, a few of Gameday 99. I have two copies of Final Fantasy VIII, the 4th disc stopped working after I let my friend borrow it. And yes, Final Fantasy VIII is a good game, IX was a piece of crap, as was X. But, VIII was the first FF I played, and most people tend to favor the one they played first.

I traded in one of the Smackdown games for PS2, recently purchased it again cause I lacked a good wrestling game other than No Mercy on the 64.

I'm considering purchasing The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction again, cause I miss running around and wrecking everything. And grabbing the little army guys, running up the tallest building, and power bombing them repeatedly off the top.

Now me and my dad both had our own copies of Phantasy Star Online and both our own GC's. We also have had multiple copies of Diablo 2, however I have no idea how many. We traded in one copy of PSO a while ago, but yeah.

Heh, I just realized that I bought Command and Conquer: Tiberian Sun twice now. First time I got was soon after its release and then I got it again just this september when I bought the First Decade pack. It didn't hit me till just now, and I've been playing that game all week too.:D

I've got two copies of Diablo and two of Diablo 2, but only one of the expansion. It was one of those bundle deals, and then another.

When my parents bought my mom's minivan, it came with one of those in-car TV units. Also came with an N64 and Mario Kart, both of which I already had. Mario Kart disappeared into the void, but I've still got both N64s.

My sister idiotically bought more than one sports game for the gamecube. Please don't ask me why.

Had to. I bought Final fantasy VII. Then I lost it so I had to buy another copy. Then I leant it to a friend and never saw it again, so lo and behold, I had to buy yet another copy. That was bs and i am never lending games to my friends again.

EDIT: i have also bought 2 copies of Diablo now that I look again. Once as a standalone and again in the battle chest. Still love the game and still battle.net with it.

I bought 2 copies of:
Suikoden II, Metroid II, Zelda: Link's Awakening, Alleyway, some others I forgot

All of them except Suikoden II I bought because I lost or had stolen my first copy. I bought 2 copies of Suikoden II to get the cover for the second and hopefully sell someone who liked the game a second copy, because it owns so much. However, it figures, no one ever plays it when I let them barrow it. So I WANT to sell someone a 60-100 dollar used game for half price, but no one ever wants it.
