OK, so recently I got myself a slimline NTSC American PS2 with a game, which will be my christmas present. I have heard that I won't need a voltage converter for the slimline one to use it. Could anyone here tell me, once and for all, if I need one? I don't want money to be wasted...

I think whether it's NTSC or Pal doesn't enter into it. You gotta look what country it's from. I'm guessing either USA or Japan, and I think you'd need a converter in either of those cases.

Yeah, by NTSC I meant America. I just don't want it to blow up, that's all.

Check the underside and see what it runs at. A PAL slimline runs at 8.5V D.C at 5.3 Amps on a 230V supply.
If an American model works at less then that, or works on AC, then I would say yes.
Can I just ask though, why you have an american model? I mean they're less than £100 here now, and they'll work with your tv properly, whereas NTSC will likely come out in black and white, unless you have an NTSC ready tv. It just seems rather strange.

Since I want to play games which don't come out in the UK or take months to do so. Tales of Legendia and Tales of the Abyss being two examples. I have wanted one for a while now, and an earlier experiment with Swap Magic failed sadly. So I decided to get an American model for xmas. Obviously I'm not completely ditching my PAL PS2 though.
Meh, looks like no-one here's really sure either. Time to Google some more. Thanks anyway though.
