No not really. With recent press covering Idiots and their inability to follow the instructions given to you constantly by the Wii console. Instructions like wear the wrist strap and make sure you have adequate space around you. Nintendo has released something VIA e-mail to registered Wii users.

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b74/Mintaro/WiiSafetymessage.jpg

Ok I'm sorry but the fact that Nintendo felt the need to release this is sad. I own a Wii and at no time has it ever occurred to me not to do EVERYTHING listed in this. Including *GASP* not letting go of the Wiimote during game play. Every player of Video games should know that the key to playing a video game is holding the Controller. This makes me sad for the general intelligence of the world. As well as fear for our legal system when a company has to protect itself against the rampant insanity and idiocy of its users. Why not put in a warning that submerging it in water may in fact break the product? I believe that PS2 actually had a clause against hitting it with an Ax? I seem to remember something about that from when I got my PS2. If any of you know someone who hasn't followed the safety information included with their system. Please take Darwin's theory into your own hands.

See Wiimotions thread, last post by fifthfiend.

Let's not do another one of these for a while, guys? I don't think this horse is getting any deader.

Nintendo has a long history of being sued for things that are so obvious, people should be able to figure it out. And to keep from gaining negative publicity, whenever a court battle ensues, most of the time they just settle out of court giving the party, correct or not, a sizable sum.

Now they are protecting themselves to the fullest extent of the law, with 2 in game warnings and an issued statement. No one can ever sue them for this because it will be thrown out of court the second a judge sees all Nintendo has done to warn the consumer. Its just Nintendo covering its base.

That's because they use mostly Macintosh or Linux based software, or anything that's not Microsoft intended. If they did, they seriously need to be slapped. I remember the olden days when Microsoft was only used by... Microsoft for making games such as Flight Simulator 2000/98.

I do like that even though the problems are from people being careless, they are taking action. For example, with the wrist strap problem, they have re-designed it and are offering the new straps free to anyone who owns a system, up to 4 straps per serial number. That is what I call taking care of your customers.

Yep, it's happening.

On December 6, a Wii purchaser in Austin, Texas filed a suit against Nintendo, alleging the publisher of violating the Washington Consumer Protection Act (Nintendo is based in the state of Washington, where the suit was filed) by engaging in "unfair or deceptive practices" by telling consumers that the wrist strap was to prevent the controller from flying out of a user's hand during use, and then providing a strap that was "ineffective for its intended use." The suit also claims that the Wii Remote strap's problems constitute a breach of warranty, and seeks to become a class-action suit in which anyone who has purchased a Wii would be able to join.

Jesus christ. The guy will probably win too. He's one of those people who flings the damn remote with all their pathetic might.

Thoughts?

Any thoughts?

Shouldn't this be merged with the other Strap thread?

Anyway, I don't think he'll win. He's saying that the strap is supposed to stop it from flying out of your hand, and it didn't work. I don't think he realizes that not trying to throw the damn thing is the first step, and Nintendo never said their wrist straps prevented you from throwing your Wiimote. Besides - they've already issued out free/cheap replacement straps, so the point is kind of null.

Wait, there was another Strap thread? I did a search but it didn't pop up.

Lol My thread has been merged with. Works for me because I want to comment on this. While I do not believe nintendo ever states that the strap is to keep the controller from flying out of the hand. If used properly the strap can prevent this. However you have to tighten the strap around your wrist with the slider. If you do this it should prevent it from leaving your wrist. However I have never seen a WII player other then myself do this.

Yeah, those Wiimotes are pretty dangerous. (http://www.duelinganalogs.com/?date=2006-12-18)

My job is done here. Away, Mirai! Linkage Man, to the skies!

Hey I just got a WII and I am going to buy a game for it.
Any Suggestions?

The only game I'd pay hard-earned cash for is probably Zelda. Unfortunately I think it's single player only, which is a downer, but it's a good single player game.

For multiplayer, Sports comes with it...I wouldn't buy until more waves of games come out.

Trauma center is pretty good, and I think Ultimate Alliance on the Wii is awesome despite the fact it's a port (Twirling the controller around to create a whirlwind from Thor's Hammer = priceless) and Zelda, of course, If you own a Wii and have no intentions of buying Zelda you must be mad.

To get back on Topic, the wiimote wrist strap thing is just down right silly. I've commented on this in another thread and in a nutshell I chalk it up to stupidity, but it is funny that's for sure.

Me got Wii. Me got Zelda.
Now what, is the question.

Rayman Rabbids is a surprisingly awesome game. That's one of the only places I'd consider the strap to be a requirement outside of Wii Sports. Usually in Wii games, you're staying still to try and be as accurate as possible with the wiimote.

Other good games include Call of Duty 3 (worst game of the series yet, but still more than playable) and Red Steel (there's SO MUCH WRONG WITH IT, and yet its still strangely enjoyable! Also it's multiplayer)

Bam. I answered questions AND stayed on topic.

I don't even see a need for the strap on any game. Unless your fingers are greased with animal fats and have the strength of pasta al dente, there is no reason to even put it on the controller.

The strap is a weird precaution ... for a gamer. However, for the non-gamer... trust me on this one, you definitely want your little brother and grandma to put on those wrist straps, unless you don't like your old t.v. or something.

Well, I finally got a Wii. It took one and a half weeks of hard searching.

First impressions are positive. Along with the free Sports, I bought:

Trauma Center: Second Opinion
Rayman: Raving Rabbids

and I rented Red Steel, a fact for which I am now VERY thankful after trying it for 20 minutes.

I decided not to get Zelda, because my buddy got it and I'll just borrow it from him when he completes it in 60 hours.

Comprehensive reviews will follow.

Heh, it took me two weeks to get Mine.

As for the Strap, I find it pointless indeed for most games. Wii Sports might be a good idea to have the strap for things like baseball where you're swinging as hard as you can but so far, I haven't let go of the Wii-mote.

Also, I only got Zelda: TP so far, and I don't play on buying any more Wii games until they either drop in price or I can buy them used. Unless its a must have like Brawl. For the time being, I'll be buying all the gamecube games I missed out on as soon as I finish Zelda and get a Gamecube Controller. I'm thinking of getting Metroid Prime and Resident Evil 4. Both Used. :D

The strap is a requirement for some of these Rayman games. But in general it's not necessary. I only wear it most of the time because it can get in the way. You might need it for baseball, but...I dislike the baseball anyway.

Currently playing through Red Steel, though I've finally had a chance to try all of my games now.

If you get a gamecube controller make sure to get a wavebird. Not only is it wireless but both myself and my friend have had our wavebirds sense they were first released. The still work like miracle machines. I'm sure plenty more of you out there have original wavebirds that run like dreams as well.

There are a few WII games out worth owning. The aforementioned Rayman game is good for parties. Red steel isn't worth buying sense they are doing the re-release. Of course the new Zelda is a must have. Also metal slug anthology is good. Other then that I do not know really.

But remember all WII and no work makes playing WOW Burning crusade hard to do.

Having played with my Wii for a while, I can say officially that anyone who looses grip and throws it into the TV must have never masturbated, or just has a REALLY naturally weak grip.

Why? Because even swinging at high speeds, with somewhat sweaty hands, I didn't lose grip on the wiimote.

Hmmm, being angry makes me make weird comparisons, maybe I should get angry more often.

I've nearly lost grip in bowling. It's not really having anything to do with how hard you swing it (within some reason), it's more how much you're paying attention to your grip. Me, I'm a clumsy dumbass. So there's been a few times where I've been bowling, and not really paying attention to how hard or well I'm gripping the remote, and nearly hurled it at 25mph into my big screen TV.

And then there's Rayman, and some of those games require a ferocity of power and speed that's completely unheard of in any other Wii game I've played yet.

Drunk people drop the remote, lots. I now insist they use the strap. Excite trucks is also pretty fun for multiplay.
