They're not recalling the DS-Lite; they're only recalling a batch of 200,000 chargers. In Japan.

And I have to agree with Tycho from Penny Arcade (hopefully I don't need to link this) when he said that the wriststrap recall is just Nintendo covering their ass. It doesn't seem like the wrist strap thing is Nintendo's fault anyway; every story I've heard involves someone using the controller in an overly vigorous fashion.

So, in short, none of this is all that big a deal, as I see it.

I have to agree, the wrist strap recall isn't exactly Nintendo's fault. My strap hasn't broken but I don't swing the thing around with all my strength and then let go of the remote every time. The only error Nintendo made was it didn't take into account how stupid the general public is, Nintendo made the false assumption that people actually would use their common sense (an assumption no corporate entity should ever make when selling something to the masses). This chalks up there with McDonald's placing "hot" labels on their coffee and Windex putting warnings not to spray their product into your eyes. As for the DS adaptors, I don't know anything about that... but I do know I want a DS and can't afford one at the moment ::sigh::

I dont know anything about the DS chargers either, but yeah the straps on the Wiimotes all comes down to people not using the product right, so it is no real fault of Nintendo's in my book. However I do still think it is great that they are addressing the issue the way that they are.

Was it the straps breaking or the part that attaches to the wiimote that breaks?

They should've went with a cloth covered elastic band for their straps instead of the plastic thingy, and just had it threaded through a hole on the wiimote instead of a seperate attaching "clip". That would make it stronger, if there was simply a hole in the molded plastic of the wiimote to pass a hand attachment through. It's hard for cloth covered elastic bands to break until they have become frayed. Then again plastic doesn't fray--but apparently it breaks if you swing your wiimote like a mace or bola. Who'd have thunk?

Of course hindsight is always 20/20. And most people don't use their wiimotes as morning stars. But some people do.

I will probably ask for one of those straps, just because I can, and I enjoy free stuff. Then I can place the old strap in a box as a rare item because all the others either snapped or were replaced. It's genius I tell you.
