It was on that little empty plate to the left there... it was a "All you can eat" buffet chinese meal. We ask, they make it fresh and serve it at the table... we had 8 Gyoza, 6 fried and 2 steamed.

The plate on the right are Mushrooms on Soy Sauce, and the middle plate was the "Imperial Entry" that comes wit the meal. We also had a whole bunch of Springrolls of all kinds, both sweet and salty flavors ("Choco-Banana" is great!!)

Despite that, having hair cover your eye is really bad. Back in the 80s when surfer styles were in, they found that that could cause permanent blindness in the covered eye because the brain just shut off the signal rather than deal with a crappy one.

Besides the facts that you can see through it at least partially and its obviously not covered 100% of the time, people who get eye surgery and stuff have to wear eye bandages for potentially months and they're still fine.

Why would that happen? That's just DUMB.

I'm not saying thats what happens, I'm just pointing out that eyes tend to get worse (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amblyopia) out of lack of use, and when an eye isn't being used extensively for a long period of time, it would make sense for it to atrophy. I can't talk about what happens to people who've been unable to see out of an eye for months after they take the bandages off, but I'd be pretty surprised if there were no problems at all, at least in the short term. In any case, Amblyopia is something that seems to come from childhood, I'm not sure if that would still apply to teenagers with the haircuts.

I'm not verifying what blue said, I'm pointing out that something atrophying from lack of use is more likely than hair causing infections, considering how your hands are incredibly more exposed to bacteria and such than your hair, and they come into contact with your eyes all the time.

Actually, atrophy from lack of use is something that happens to muscles.

The eye and optic nerve are not muscular and doesn't need to be used in order to continue working. Your brain doesn't just shut off random nerves because they haven't been used in awhile.

If you'd read your own wiki article you'd notice that Amblyopia actually has nothing to do with atrophying at all. It's completely developmental. The brain never creates the proper pathways during early childhood, when the brain is still in its formative periods.

Once the brain is done forming its pathways it's very hard to make it change, especially on such a large scale--which is why lazy eye is caused in the formative years.

And yeah, there's actually no problems at all with the taking the bandages off, other than short term light sensitivity. My mother had lasik.

WHICH is why I'm doubting this. Nerves don't atrophy from lack of use. They can be damaged, or atrophy from poor blood flow. But... say... locking your arm in a sealed room for three months while you sit next to it, held out in space with no air movement of any kind isn't going to cause your arm to go numb.

I can try to find sources on it, but I heard it from my mom ages ago and trusted her because she's been a nurse for 30+ years and would have probably been working for the public health system of Milwaukee at the time. There's a possibility that she was just talking out her rear and I was gullible. :sweatdrop


Edit: There may be some truth to it, but not directly. Some articles say hair dye can have nasty stuff in it that can cause eye damage and Lord knows there was no shortage of that in the 80s.

Also, found an article that said seeing porn or gore can blind your brain for between 2- and 8/10 of a second. XD

The best con I've been to yet by FAR. Only made so by batgirl and her crazy webcomic connections. We were able to stay two hours after closing, helping the SNAFU guys clean their booth, and obviously ended up going to the Olive Garden in Times Square for dinner. I even saved the parking receipt. I arrived at 10:30am and left at 10:30pm, that fee sucked. All around very cool people to talk to and I really hope to see them again at another con sometime in the near future.

VERY close but your explanation isn't nearly as cool. I got them off ebay. They are vintage 1916 motorist goggles and were originally aluminum colored. The padding on the cups was dry rotted so I broke it off, and did the same with the padding on the nosepiece, revealing a short length of chain which was much better anyway.

I painted the exterior gold. It's not spraypaint but a metallic brass paint from my local Ace Hardware.

I bought an old suitcase from goodwill and cut out strips of leather-ish stuff and sewed it back onto the cups. That part was a bitch cause I didn't know what I was doing. Took me about an hour or more each cup, and I did one twice. The strap is made of the same thing, only it wasn't as hard to do. I used the original clip (not pictured) to make it adjustable.

The lenses are the cheapest sunglasses I could find. I traced the original glass lenses onto them with a sharpie and then ground them on a bench grinder until they fit into the lens-holders.

God I love talking about stuff I make!
