The result was that it looked like it was both night and day at the same time, even though that pic was taken close to midnight.

So, I marched a few seasons of drum corps. For those of you not in the know, picture your (average) high school or college marching bands, now raise the intensity by a factor of... lets say a dozen. Now, that thing you've got there is maybe a shadow of drum corps.

Anyway, right, the camwhoring.

To be honest, the Shako (that's the type of hat that is) strap does seem very dumb, but it's not completely pointless. See, ideally you don't want the shako moving around. If you've got the strap underneath your chin and strapped down tight, then when you open your mouth to breathe (or sing or anything else you'd need to do for the performance) you could end up pulling the shako down over your eyes with your jaw on accident. If you've got it loose, then the strap is just flapping around generally making a nuisance of itself. Not to mention, if you fall you kind of want the shako to fall off easily anyway so you don't end up getting choked by the strap. So, dumb as it is, across the chin kind if IS the best place for the strap.

Now, that said, I always thought the plastic straps were dumb. We were supposed to get some metal chains to replace them, but they never came while I was marching. :( (by chain, I mean something like this. (http://www.jolesch.com/userView.aspx?ID=4184431&ImageNum=3092-994-069&EventID=3092))

So, you still end up with something on your face, but the metal chains are much less of a pain.

@bobbey: the strap actually isn't so bad to play through either. Once you start playing in front of a football stadium worth of folks, I find that most other concerns leave me quite quickly.

Just got back from Zenkaikon V!

I went once again as Ash Ketchum and my friend went as Ghost from Call of Duty:MW2.

First thing we needed to do was find an ATM.

What kind of prehistoric establishment is this that doesn't accept credit? Nonetheless, after a few swipes we were in the money. Though to my chagrin I found I could not use the same machine to deposit Pokemon.

I also took part in a mock Pokemon battle wherein my pokeball exploded upon impact with the tile floor. Some people at the information desk helped me put it back together...kind of.
