I was passing through, and thought that this was way too important to pass up.

http://www.thesnakesoup.com/petition/

Essentially, it is a petition to Konami to release and provide proper translations for Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake (which never made it to the states in the first place). I believe it to be your civic duty to sign this petition. All the cool kids are doing it. Don't be a loser. Just try it. C'mon, who's gonna find out?

Er, that is..

The NES version of Metal Gear that we received was the product of a faulty translation, with such memorable quotes as "Uh-oh! The truck have started to move," and "Find missing our Grey Fox!" Of course, they're hardly great mistakes to complain about, but what many do not know about are the number of scenes that were deleted from the original MSX version of the game, either due to content or space issues. Either way, this petition seeks to have this game restored to its true value.

Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake was actually never even released outside of Japan. For years, the only way we silly Westerners could hope to play it was through MSX emulation, and fans with too much free time providing paltry translations. Well, I say no more!

Too long have the origins of this great series been obscured in one fashion or another. It is time we unite to get them on our shelves! You owe it to yourself as a fan to sign this petition. I see a sunny day in our future. And you will have helped create it.

Again, the link is: http://www.thesnakesoup.com/petition/

Thank you for your time.

Unite to form DEVASTATOR!!!!

*OR* you can be a lazy bum like me, take a few moments and find Fan-Translated Roms of the two games, and a MSX emulator.

Also, it isn't just the bad translation that's wrong with the NES version of Metal Gear, but how the game's mapped out. Remember how you start off in the jungle, and that complex bit of getting past the dog and all that sort of crap? Well that isn't even *IN* the actual Metal Gear (well at least not until later), and its more or less better streamlined than the NES version.

Not that I haven't mentioned this on the forums before. Its just that *NOBODY* seems to remember...

Ah, I just can't wait for Snake Eater. Although PSM's predictions have been faulting all too much lately...

Well, it's good to see so much support for this game.

C'mon, people! We're talking the origins of the Metal Gear series. Don't you care?!

I care... but like SWB said, it might just be easier to get a MSX emulator and try to find the fan-translated ROMs.

But Ill sign it. Not like I have anything better to do. :P

I want them to realese it. I did get a MSX emulator (I think...), but could only find non-translated versions of the game...

What exactly will Snake Eater be about? What has become of Ocelot and the last Metal Gear Ray? My Prediction: None, I'm at a loss. And what will the new Metal Gear look like? My prediction: something that spews flames...

Go to this thread, read it and you should find some answers...

The short version? Metal Gear Solid 3 will be a pre-quel of sorts, taking place before Metal Gear 1 & 2, and before Metal Gear Solid 1 & 2. You will play the role of Big Boss (Snake's dad, mentioned in Metal Gear Solid 1 & the main baddie of Metal Gear 1 & 2).

Beyond that, not much is known, and can only be guessed at if you're familar with the MSX Metal Gear games. (Well the Metal Gear 1 for the NES is basically the same thing as the Metal Gear 1 for MSX, but Metal Gear 2 for NEW is in no way connected with the actual Metal Gear storyline).

Speaking as a British fan, I doubt this petition will effect me. They couldn't be bothered to give us Suikoden, so why would they cut us in on this translation?

I believe there was a PAL release of the first two Suikoden games, if memory serves me correctly.

In any case, I remember downloading the patched version of MS2 for the MSX a while ago. Haven't quite gotten around to checking it out though... Someday, maybe I'll clear up my backlog and give it a play-through.
