I was wondering, should I get FFX-2 now that it is out. Ive heard some good things and some bad things. So I am wondering if I should get it.

Well, with three hours of gameplay under my belt, I'd say it's pretty good so far barring the opening sequence. May I say "corny"? The dress spheres/ jobs are fun. BLACK MAGE IS THE BEST!!! The story is pretty pointless, but the battles are fun. For the first time in my life, I enjoy random encounters. The oversoul feature is pretty good, yet I miss killing the pitiful enemies. There aren't any limits or overdrives and I have yet to meet a moogle or a chocobo. Graphics are good, it's pretty funny with Brother obsessed with Yuna, but the villains so far are stupid. Besides that, get it. It's worth it.

It IS out? *mutters* The dumbfuck at Wal-Mart told me they'd delayed it last second until December 2nd.

Fuck Wal-Mart. :|

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Wal-Mart? They get their games two weeks after the initial release and the so called workers with game "knowledge" don't know the difference between a Sports game and a FPS. Go to gamestop or EB...not walmart...

I have only a few hours under my belt, but I like it. It's light-hearted and well, goofy at times, which is a welcome change from the doom and gloom save the world but you still fail type of story that has been prevailant. The battle system is interesting, thought I thought it was weird when I read about it I figured things out quickly and have already adapted myself to it... it really makes things fun, and I like leveling up as much in X-2 as I did in X (and I loved the battle system in FFX). And you must give some credit to any game that will use the word "Disasterific."

My are opinion of FFX-2?

I'll play it. My friends like it. I'd get it for completeness anyway.

I liked some of it...

The atmosphere was nice. The job system and battle systems are also awesome. But I hated the Story Completion Percentage thing. It lays way too much pressure on getting everything right, exploring every place, and doing every side quest the first time through, which kills the replay value. Oh that and they axed the Blitzball as an active sport; and invented the hell hole that is Gunner's Gauntlet.

SAAM, get the Death Star III over here! We have a Code Lightsaber-Bright Red!

Anyway, the only thing I really liked about FFX-2 was looking at Yuna and Paine all the time(Rikku's ugly, IMO). But I agree Blitzball was butchered. And while I am a perfectionist, I don't like the whole idea of having side quests everywhere and on the airship in every chapter.

I'll admit that before FFX-2, though, the RPG I was working on had a completion percentage similar to what FFX-2's is; getting percentage points for some of the most trivial things(who would really think about sleeping when the save point restores HP? I wouldn't!). But, now that Square-Enix made a reason that you had to buy a strategy guide for a game to complete the game(hey, I doubt those guys at Gamefaqs did everything all by themselves, especially considering some of them are exactly detail-for-detail on par with a strategy guide), I've decided I'll tone down on the percentage completion for my RPG.

Blitzball is still in FFX-2, it's not the same as FFX, nad it's only playable in chapter 5.

Erm.....Well, It's playable up to chapter 5, And I havn't played it since that. Yes, the world is a lot brighter and a lot less domm and gloom that was in FFX. But it doesn't fit the FF series well. I found that the only way I could play the game....was muted, Rikku gets annoying after about 3 hours. The other 2 are ok though (By that i mean, not annoying). The battle system has changed and can't be compaired to the FFX system. It's an ok game.

I haven't touched it in a few months, I left off somewhere in chapter 3. If you can play it with the mindset that it was never intended to be a serious game, at least in comparison to it's precursor, it's a good deal of fun. My only real gripe is the soundtrack, which is without a doubt the absolute worst OST from any Final Fantasy game.

If you have time on your hands, there is a ton to do in this game in terms of sidequests and the like; Sticking strictly to the plot events, you could probably go through it in fairly short order. Make no mistake, the game is quite sufficiently packed with content, even if it isn't all entirely relevant or necessary.

Yeah, but that's my point. After you choose your team and formation, then it simply becomes a five minute CG sequence. Yay.

Actually, I really like it. It kinda grows a bit on you, but it's a blast. It's also the only full soundtrack that I could get for free with using a P2P program.

Ergh..some pathetic fool told me that fans weren't satisfied with FFX(Final Fantasy 10), so that's why they made the sequel X-2!! Are they an idiot?!? I've beaten FFX three times this month(for its all I have left to do in summer..), and it was better than playing three hours of X-2 to me. Woohoo a 5 minute CG who wouldn't want to see that? And I think the FFX soundtrack is by far better than X-2's...my thought, I couldn't even listen to Rikku talk for about the half of FFX she's in, and I am very sorry to you people that had to listen to her for a whole game.. O.o And I'd rather have Lulu than Payne. Lulu's super magical and stuff...yeah.

Oh, and a side note...why would you buy the soundtrack for FFX or X-2 if you can just get the music spheres? I was kind of confused by what you said, so don't call me an idiot, or new, or a new idiot, or anything of that sort, alright? And I could listen to FFX's music spheres for a long time...

And how many people carry around a PS2, TV and a power supply to listen to it.?

Darkness: I'd think the main point for getting the music outside of the game would be to listen to it when you're not playing the game. On your computer or in your car and such.

The soundtrack is truly abominable. If I ever run into the guy who composed the theme you hear at Clasko's ranch I will spit upon his face and kick him squarely in the testicles.

You people are just geting beside the point now! A FOOL SAID THAT X-2 WAS MADE BECAUSE FFX DID NOT SATISFY THE PEOPLE THAT PLAYED IT!! THAT IS IMPOSSIBLE... ffx tis much greater than x-2!! And I have a ps2 in my car so ha!

KefkaTaran

Most people don't have their PS2 in their car.

And the guy who said that was an idiot because that would be a stupid reason for making a game. They made FFX-2, more likely, because FFX sold so well, so FFX-2 was guaranteed to sell well.

FYI, check out boxtorrents.com and do a search for Final Fantasy. You'll come up with a torrent about ~6GB in size that contains every single officially sanctioned FF soundtrack in MP3 format. A hefty download, but well worth the diskspace if you ask me. There's a supplement file that includes a few odds and ends the main archive left out.

You can also download the original sequences from zophar.net, all you need is a few plugins for Winamp (PSF, NSF, SPC, etc.). The files are all very small considering the sheer volume of content, though sometimes they are not exact replicas due to a few tehcnical complications. This only extends are far as mixing/effects/looping issues though, it's a reasonably negligible difference unless you're an absolute purist with a good ear.

But really, FFX2 has one of the worst soundtracks of any game I've ever played.

I'd have to agree on one thing: The soundtrack sucks. It's most likely the worst of any FF game in existance.
I don't get the people who complain about the dress system, calling it dress up. That's just how the class system works; not to mention having the option to choose your class is a trait that most people appreciate: it adds a certain amount of custimization to the game.

I didn't like it too much. It was a lousy rehash of FF5's WONDERFUL battle system, and since there's no empty slot or learned abilities - like you would think there was - there's no real benefit for mastering a class or ability. That, and the cheesy girl-power theme was a little nauseating at some points.

I'll admit I played through FFX-2, and one of the major reasons I did so is because I liked its battle system a lot. But I need to agree with Mirai. One of my biggest disappointments was when I mastered my first class and realized you get nothing special for it. There had been no point in wasting all that time to put 200+ AP into one ability that I don't even care that much about just so I could see the word 'master' plastered next to it.

Ivellios
08-11-2004, 03:49 PM
That's true. There should be a master ability that each class learns after completing all other abilities. Of course, it'd have to be really good for the gun mage: ultima maybe, just because the blue mage-ness of it would be difficult to master.

It was good, but i missed the variety of characters like in the other games.

The thing I didn't like about X-2 was it's "story". (or lack thereof one) and all of those annoying sidequests. They were trying to save the world, I think they could skip selling tickets for Tobli's show. And the "good" ending sucks. Although, my opinion of it has raised in the last few days since I got the 100% perfect ending. (very good ending)

But it was nothing like I expected. I wish there would have been more of a storyline. I found myself sitting there playing the game anticipating meeting the "final boss" or something big like that, but nothing ever really came.

But I do like the music from the game, (I don't have the soundtrack though) I love 1000 Words and Real Emotion.

-_- the concerts.

I'm not sure why square suddenly decided to make this love triangle...thing...with Leene and Yuna for Tidus and all...and the saving-the-world thing was totally unnecesary.

I mean, come on. We originally wanted a sequel because the guy didn't get the girl. or vice versa. They should have focused on that more than saying "Well if you do REAL good then you find Tidus!"

And the battle system. Come on. Mastering a class should have a benefit.

I haven't played the game, as I don't have a PS2 yet. But I looked through a strategy guide for it and found something that annoyed me for some reason.

The outfits for each class is the same for all the girls. Now, I'm not complaining as a fashion thing (as in wearing the same outfit), but as an asthetic problem. One of the coolest parts of many RPGs and anime are the wacky, whimsical, and downright cool designs you see. But the fact that Yuna's gunfighter outfit isn't unique to her just seems to make it a lot less interesting. I mean she still looks hot in it. But Rikka and Payne should have had their own gunfighter outfits, Rikka's fitting her wild girl theme, and Payne's fitting her dominatrix look.

I don't care how "gay" this makes me look. I just think Payne's outfits should have had a black leather theme, Rikka's her... whatever the hell her theme is, and Yuna her Snow White yet not as anymore timid theme.
