View Full Version : #851: "Okay, so you're from the governor's office...?"

Oh, random town. We hardly knew ye.

<3 BM and big explosions

I had something else to say but I forget what it was.

I laughed out loud at what the mayor said about who runs the mob and police... :D

Yeah, oops, Black Mage. Are we heading (shooting?) back toward the main quest now?

EDIT: I just noticed that Fighter stood there the whole time and didn't complain about strong-arming the mayor around... there can be no way he didn't notice what was going on. Or is he really oblivious enough that looking in the opposite direction turns off his ability to hear? I wouldn't be surprised....

Iono about Fighter's attention lasting through that whole conversation before his "oxygen-conserving" brain got distracted by thoughts of swords.

Another line I need to find a reason to use in our campaign, heheheh. Governor's office, nicely done.

And as if BM nuking things out of simplicity and a total disregard for the effects of his actions ever gets old. :bmage:

I had a feeling there was going to be a large explosion sooner or later. It's inevitable with Black Mage.

One question, though. Did he use the Hadoken? It's the only attack to my knowledge that can propel people into the air that high.

Flarecobra
05-26-2007, 12:23 AM
There's also his Nuke. Remember the Bee Episode?

Destroy Gundam

Oh yeah, I had forgotten about that attack. Silly me.

"There is such a thing as X" is the new friendly way to tell someone they're screwing up without hurting their feelings, apparently. But why is Thief so politically correct? Maybe it's such a minor screw-up he can afford to be pedagogic and give constructive criticism while sailing through the air?

Fun fact: The blast wave of a nuke initially moves at approximately one two-hundredth of the speed of light. Being at ground zero of the explosion, that should be the speed our heroes were launched at. If we wanna be scientific about it.

Now that was unexpected. And funny. Wonder if the explosion sends them in the Flying Fortress...

If you want to cite physical facts, you need to do things like accounting for the mass of people.

1) It's been a while since we had a good Hadoken.

2) New graphics, horray.

Yeah, oops, Black Mage. Are we heading (shooting?) back toward the main quest now?

Most likely. They always seem to continue the main quest airborne (see: both gravity slayings, the eruption leading them out of Gurgu, Black Mage Hadoken'ing Gaia launching him towards Onrac, Teleporting Turkey, Jeff's cannon, the Other Warriors' prison break, etc.) I like the idea of them being launced towards the Floating Castle.

Used_Potato
05-26-2007, 09:32 AM
Actually, if they were to careen towards the Floating Castle, it would make me a little sad, seeing as there's only Chaos himself afterwards and then... dare I say it... the end of 8-Bit Theater. ;_; Not to bum people out or anything.

On the Castle note, if they ever get there, I'm wondering if Brian will be doing anything with the Adamantium -> Excalibur sidequest, seeing as that's where you get it.

What ever happened to Power Creep man?!??!
THE POWER CREEP!
Won't someone PLEASE think of the children?!?!

Just one thing from the first page: BM has NUKE as a spell? I was always rather disappointed because I thought that was one of the better ones he didn't! XD If you could post the page number, I'd appreciate it.

Second thing, was that just Dr. Unne? If it is, BM just creamed the one person who might actually be useful in finding the Orb of Air for the second time! :D

I like how alot of Black Mage's arguments end up with the counter point of blowing everyone up but himself.

My favorite thing about this comic is the brief "cameo" that I snuck into the last panel.

I hate you, because now everybody is obligated to go looking for it.

I'm not seeing it. Unless this is one of those things that Brian teases us with 'cause it's funny.

I'm not seeing it.
Same, unless it has to do with that tiny little smudge of red on the left of the explosion splash.

I think I see it and if I'm right, it's very well hidden. Here are 2 hints:

-You can partially see it the the 2nd last panel
-Try looking at it with your eyes half-closed

Nemnoch the Devil

Don't wanna ruin it for everyone, but the cameo isn't a person.

Hint: Try lower right hand quadrant of the last panel.

Oh, and this is my first actual post. I've been lurking for years. It'll probably be at least another 2 before post again.

I think I see it... because (spoiler)I see a penis. Why do I see a penis?

And It's the Meteor!

It almost blends into the background, nice work.

I can see Brian wanted this gag to end so he can go on with the story. He is so subtle about it too.

For those who don't see it, go here:

which now that i look at it again, it is larger than what I circled

So this is how we get back on track...I like it. I endorse the comic.

Destroy Gundam

It blends in so well with the explosion's aftermath. At least the M.A.R.T.A.N.S aren't alive to see the rest of the town vanish.

So it was a meteor? At first, I though it was that Blue/Green faded thing next to Thief at the edge.

TopHatAssassin
05-26-2007, 09:20 PM
Would I be correct in saying the meteor is in fact being blown out of the ground by the explosion? I would imagine it'd happen, now that I think about it.
Excellent comic, by the way. I do believe that it was long overdue for another city-ending explosion, courtesy of BM.

Yeah, how many towns has BM destroyed now? Is anybody keeping a running count?

Great comic by the way, as per usual.

I'm having a feeling this will send them to where the "air orb" is (probably exactly how sarda planned it)

Probably, knowing Sarda.

He probably even planned the town's destruction.

Also, feels good to be back.

I didn't notice the meteor at first, I actually read this thread and started looking for the cameo, then I saw the weird smudge next to Thief and thought it was the green smudge from when Black Mage cast the meteor spell to crush the M.A.R.T.A.N.S, I didn't even expect to see the meteor until mattblack04 pointed it out.

Well, my only problem was that no guards were killed.

Blues
05-28-2007, 02:22 AM
There aren't any more guards to kill, unless you count the Light Warriors. And while they may average out to "stupid and/or insane", they're not exactly suicidal.

Kind of.

...maybe a little.

I spent many years as a child (well...and still do) starting at popcorn ceilings, the backs of school bus seats, and pressed wood ceilings. I found a million pictures before I finally found the actual cameo. XD Ah, good times.

Other than that, loved the comic. Also, I believe that was Dr. Unne. Well...BM had to get the idea across somehow.

Nuklear Waste
05-30-2007, 06:18 AM
I don't think that's Dr. Unne, I think that's the mayor.
