It seems like every so often when I try to explore the forum, I'll get a "500 Error - Internal Server Error". This applies for any page I try to access here.

This occurs abruptly and suddenly, and rarely lasts more than ten minutes before everything goes back to normal.

Is there... I dunno, any specific reason for this?

I've been having some problems lately too.

I'll just be clicking through threads and get an error. Everytime so far the page will either load itself after a second or I'll hit back and it takes me to the page I was trying to access.

I've also been having this problem a lot recently, for about the last week or so. It usually lasts about five-ten minutes, then things go back to normal.

this also happened several weeks ago...there might be a pattern to it, but im currently having no issues, just a second longer to connect to NPF. It might be me since i clean my firefox cache everyday...

Yeah, it doesn't seem to be a big issue, but more of a curiosity when it happens. Does anyone know exactly what this is caused by?

Mike McC
09-22-2007, 10:30 PM
Well, the problem is especailly bad tonight, not just the isolated 5 minutes of the past few days. Half the time I've loaded the forums tonight, the 500 error popped up.

I've been getting these a lot. This should put up the Pierre-signal, we'll see what he says.

'cause, if so, I'm gonna make a post that says "FIX IT!" every goddamn time I get a 500 error.

Yeah, I've gotten the 500 error of death and pain, like, 3 times now.

That's 3 times more than before.

Which is 3 times to many.

Oh, PTBBBT! XP

I'm getting it like 5 times a day. And I'm running 54M wireless. Spending more time trying to get on than actually posting. :shifty:

I am aware of the situation and I'm working on the problem.

If I may:

I run phpBB2 forums and occurances like this used to happen with the mySQL databases somehow got silghtly corrupted. Just going into the cPanel and repairing the databases with the handy automated tool would always set it right.

I don't know if it works for vBulletin, but it's worth a shot.

Thanks but it really has nothing to do with this.

RickZarber
09-27-2007, 12:01 AM
I'm not sure if this is part of the problem or something else entirely, but every time I click to go to a new page, there's something like a full minute's delay before it loads (if at all--it only loads, say, 1/3 of the time). And I'm on a 100Mbps connection. It's been like that for the past few days now...

Again, no idea if it's just me or whatnot.

So I don't know this is part of the problem, just me, or you fixing it, but I'm getting a 500 error on the main page of the comic as well. What's the deal with that?

Lord of Joshelplex

Ive been getting it like, 6 times day, though today it seems stable, at least for me it is.

I can tell it's a lot faster now than it was before.

I'm on my school's Safari browser on an e-Mac, if that has anything to do with it. I haven't tried from my home PC yet.

Edit: HUUUUUGE emphasis on a lot

shiney

It might be related to one of the rotating ads. We wouldn't know for certain because, as the ad would crash the page, we'd never see the ad.

Just a thought.

42PETUNIAS
09-27-2007, 10:54 AM
Could that also explain the comic having the same problem this morning?

Sorry to say I just got 500'd again.

I did manage to view the nuklearpower front page, and everything was normal except where the ads should have been there were "Internal Server Error - 500" messages. I guess that lends some credence to shiney's theory?

It appears we are indeed not totally out of the trouble yet but close to it.

Also, with all due respect to this community, I'm currently not looking for advices or suggestions in what the problem could be or how it can be fixed. I'm well aware of the problem and I'm working as hard as I can to fix it, truly thinking every time that I did.

Thanks!

Oddly enough, I just got one now. It was no big deal, and only lasted like 10 seconds max, but it was a little surprising. It happened on both the forum and the comic at the same time. Anyone else stumble across this, or is it just me?

bluestarultor
10-02-2007, 01:30 PM
I've gotten 1 or 2 after the fix, but they were short enough to be ignored and blamed on interference.

Edit: Could we actually be getting server overload? I have no idea what all is kept on the one(s) we have, but Brian may eventually have to invest in a new one.

Under the same line, is that why all the second pages started disappearing from the forums?

They seem to be shorter, but more widespread. Still, I've had a few today.

It's the same on VG Cats. I think it's all of the webcomics.

I am getting them everywhere on this forum, fifteen plus in the past few minutes I've been haplessly clicking trying to get here to post this. damn that was near impossible. Seems to take a minute break and then the relentless torrent resumes. It didn't start happening until around eleven thirty today for me.

Doesn't Fuitad do Ctrl-Alt-Del too? That could be the reason it doesn't work.

I've had Ctrl-alt-del, 8-bit, NPF, VG cats and even Dominic Deegan go down all at once a few weeks ago. only LICD wasn't affected that I checked. it was a while ago.

shiney

It looks to be caused by a situation involving too many connections to the SQL server. I informed Brian of the error when it occurred to me (not the 500 internal server error but a different one) so we'll see what happens.

Nikose Tyris

another 500 Internal Server Error.

Most likely causes:
The website is under maintenance.
The website has a programming error.

Just a quick copy-paste.

I got it for like 30 seconds, about 3 refreshes, and then it worked again.

Also the boards been laggy today.
