Hey anyone out there played Marvel universe? I was really skeptical when I first played it but then I saw the light. Dice are obsolete (gasp). I know most people want to kill me now but maybe someone out there plays, if so if you need any help running, twinking, or keeping your players orm twinking (dirty healing factors) I've come up with nasty ways to both enforce, and bend the rules.

Yeah the one I play came out this year. It's really amazing, in stead of rolling dice (which in my opinion is like blindfolding your character and spinning him around before attacking) you allocate stones of effort, therefore your character will succeed if he tries hard enough, not if fate is on his side.

Dice builds stradegy, if you get poor dice rolls you'll just have to use your brain to survive. Also dice help determine the level of power at your disposal, sometimes people are just weaker then others, maybe we're all rolling a d20 every minute of everyday.
Besides, anybody who says dice are obselete are either people who always roll 1s or people that just can't stand the idea of being weak.
Marvel Universe is like communism, it seems like a good idea up untill you realise anymore then two people involved will make the system break apart.

What? your allusion to communism misses the point of both communism and MU. Please note also that I've had a MAGE in the level 30's in D&D, I know what weakness is like. I just find it refreshing to see that your plan is based on how much you are willing to weaken your character to succeed instead of how much an angular peice of plastic wants it to.

Communism is a great policy up untill you read up on it entirely. 1) It puts too much trust in too many people. Corruption is emminent. 2) Communism tries to dissolve any form of religoun, which I will have no part of. And Marvel Universe is like that, great idea up untill you read up entirely on it.

True, but how challenging to the mind can something be when you're a party of six as the Avengers? I mean let's face it, anything lower then Galactus will eventually get it's butt kicked by a decent super hero combination..

I like communism. Communism is not bad it self. It's the people who don't want to work, who are bad.

Anything that wants to destroy religoun cannot be good. Even in D&D communism would be lawful neutral alignment at best..
Now to dispose of these reched diceless rpgs.. *Presses a button on some controller he has and from the depths of the ocean you hear Godzilla screams but instead out comes Jack T. Chick and he melts the handbooks with a match and some gasoline cause as we all know extremists are major pyros.*

diceless rpgs take alot of the fun out of it. there is no chance of a critical fumble, that is atleast half the fun.
As a side note... religion is not necessarily a good thing. Remember the Crusades? lots and lots of people died for a silly religious ideology. Then there was the platform of non-involvement during WW2, or the silent consent of the slave trade. Tho these are only christian shortcomings i am failry sure that each major religion has a few such shortcomings. but that is way off the topic, just thought i should point it out. :-P

First, true communism has nothing to do with the establishment and/or destruction of religion, and in theory communism is supposed to be in a constant state of political upheaval so as to avoid corruption. Last, in response to everything relevent here, I used to think like you guys, then I actually Tried Marvel Universe, and found it more mentally stimulating than dice RPG's. While I'm not saying D&D sucks now or anything, I'm just trying to say I found it more fun to actually broker effort vs. resistance than to mindlessly role dice against some static number.

By the way Metacide, quoting Dogma might seem like it a good Idea until confronted with someone else who has seen the movie. Also, you will note that Kevin Smith is catholic.

did they mention the crusades in Dogma? it has been a very long time since i saw it. still valid points tho. If i really wanted to speak against religion, i could just quote what matt Damon says to the Nun.

Dice are the heart and soul of gaming. Even board games have dice. Without dice, there is no game.
Besides, dice are the only thing in the gaming industry that consistantly sells well...

Metacide... I like you, that is what I would call greate taste, but only in the Marvel universe.

My fav is still Iceman, Wolverine is cool and all, but he is not on par to handle all of the fights he's in, and the fact that he's in every comic, he just gets old.
