What kinds of pets do you guys have? Tell a little about each of them, and if you can, you can post a picture of them too. ^^

I'm personally a cat person.

First is Shadow, my baby. She died last summer. *sniffle* I love her so much. I had her since I was 4. Rest in peace.

------
Second is Oreo is the stupidest cat alive... yet is adorable and SUPER friendly. He's part Maine Coon, which makes him very fuzzy, friendly, and a big cat.
I take him to a cat show once a year, and he was the Grand Champion about two years ago (this year he was too misbehaved to get any good scores). Hopefully he'll do well this year. He's well groomed, adorable, and friendly, but he is the stupidest cat. ^^
He literally caught his tail on fire and he didn't even notice it until my mom put it out. But he's adorable, and he's good for a laugh. And he's really quiet too, the only time he'll meow is when he's on his way to the vet, and when he meows, it's the saddest sound you've ever heard. I call him "Beast" a lot, because he can be quite a beast, he broke my bedroom door once by running into it...

----------
And last, but not least, there's Emmy, my Seal-point Himalayan (sp?). She used to belong to my best friend, until they moved to a place where they couldn't have pets, so I got to keep it. She's pretty much MY cat, since her breed attach themselves to one person. She follows me around the house, but thinks twice about going downstairs, since she's terrified of Oreo, (well, she's terrified of everyone/thing other than me, my brother, and my friend)

-----------
I have a fish too. Her name is Lucca. I won her at the fair and she's been living FOREVER.

So, what pets do you guys have?

I'm more of a cat person. I have one cat, who's name I can't spell (My Mom chose it...) but she is a pretty cool cat. Always hangs out where there are people, and she is always trying to get attention, and if you get out of your seat for a split second she'll take it in a heartbeat, but she is alright. She is friendly to me, but avoids just about everyone else. Don't know, she is sort of average I guess for a cat, but that works out fine.

My cat is pretty much the same...it's actually called Mooses...but I call him CAT. Not that cats understand when their names are mentioned...My dog has allready about nine years...

cats are the best, they are almost as interactive as a dog but they take care of themselves so you really only need to put food out and change the litter.

BTW Celesjessa you do relize you are gonna be one of those crazy old ladies on animal cops that has WAY to many cats and her house smells like cat urine and they will come to take them all away.

Either that or if you live on a farm... because that is WAY to many cats for one person.

03-26-2004, 03:42 PM
Ok so lets see...I got Grim Fandango a little after we got our dog so he is about 8 years of age...Dogs are more fun. An Celejessa you should think about the fact that you might end up to be one of those who dies in his house and when you are found after a few days your cat's have eaten you!

BMHadoken

Cats arent as interactive as dogs. You can't walk a cat (which is how I meet most of my friends outside of school) and most cats I've seen claw and scratch you if you try and pet them. And I've never had to scoop out a whole box full of my dogs crap. (of course, I don't pick up her poo when I take her for walks, I feel that poo cleaning is something for dung beetles)

And dogs are better, *nyeah*

Not that cats understand when their names are mentioned...

Seriously I can call my cat just about anything and she comes if I use the right tone.

And Celes only has two cats, that isn't too many... But if she gets any more, then is the time to start worrying...

EDIT:
and most cats I've seen claw and scratch you if you try and pet them

Well, I have gone to friend's houses with cats and never had a problem, so maybe the cats are just smart enough to know something about you...

If I had a camera, I would take pictures of my pets, but I can't find it so I shall just list them

Animal - Name(s)

Cat #1 - Tweety, Weeney, Cat, Girl
Cat #2 - Lumpy, Joey, Boy
Cat #3 - Momma, Momma cat, Girl
Cat #4 - Chief, Coward
Dog #1 - Ali

Dog is a beagle, and I have no idea what the cats are, but they all have short(ish) hair.

Edit - Cat #2 has seizures every now and then as well.

You're right FZ, they do know something about me...I'm not a brainwashed cat lover, there I said it.

Cats are too smart for their own good. Dogs are better because they're so stupid. I've watched my dog bump her head into our clear sliding door twice, and the second time she spent five minutes barking at her reflection. Cats always seem to be in permanent plotting phase...

... And that is why I like cats more. I can't respect or like any animal that stupid.

And in all honesty, it is most likely because you have dogs and smell like dogs, thus cats freak when they smell you coming. Either that, or cats really are a good judge of character...

Cats are too smart for their own good. Dogs are better because they're so stupid. I've watched my dog bump her head into our clear sliding door twice, and the second time she spent five minutes barking at her reflection. Cats always seem to be in permanent plotting phase...So... wait... you don't like cats because they're smart? Wow, you're the first dog lover I've ever seen to admit cats are smarter than dogs.

Although, in reality, they're about as smart as each other. Dogs have better memories, and can build better vocabularies, about 15-25 words. This is why you can train a dog to do just about anything. However, a dog's problem solving skills are shit. Cats on the other hand have shitty vocabularies, only being able to learn about five words (yes, they do know their name... even if they don't like you enough to come for it, but they don't know many other words), but their problem solving skills are far better than dogs, and matched only by higher mammals.

And, I have four cats.

First is a black and white one named Alfador
Second is a long haired red one named Red Cat (we couldn't think of a name.)
Third is a Calico named Sassy
Fourth is an all black one named Fancy.

All of them come when I call them, most of the time. And most of them also follow me around, given that the dogs aren't. I also have four of those. They're all ankle biters, though... shih-tzus to be exact.

First is brown and white male named Chip.
Seconed is black and white female named Belle.
Third is a black and white male named Tigger.
Fourth is a HUGE (for a shih-tzu) black and white male named Chewie. He weighs over 25 pounds... the others are closer to 15.

And... my dogs and cats, before they learned to get along, would get into constant pissing contests... which the cats always won. For instance, one of the dogs we no longer have, a white ankle biter, lopso something... named spike was sitting on a trunk, and everytime he'd get ready to jump, Alfador would smack his tail. The dog, being stupid, turned around and growled everytime the cat did that. The cat did it about twenty times before it got bored and let the dog jump.

Another time Chip was chasing Sassy around, so she ran behind the couch, and chip couldn't get back there, so he ran from one side to the other waiting for her to run out. While he was running around, she jumped straight up the middle, and sat on the back of the couch cleaning herself and watching him run around like an idiot for about five minutes.

Then there's the way Chip likes to mistake Alfador for a female dog and try to hump him... well, we got a child gate for one of the hallways, because the cats can jump those, and the dogs can't. First day we got it, Chip chases Alfador through the house trying to hump him, Alfador jumps over, lands on the other side and watches Chip try to get through... but the dog can't. What does the cat do? He walks over and rubs his ass all over it.

Ahh... Cats are funny.

I must have had close to fifteen to twenty different pets of several different kinds in my lifetime. Cats, dogs, parakeets, turtles, lop-eared rabbits, goldfish, guppies, rodents, cockatiels, a tarantula, anoles (lizards), etc... Some died, some escaped, some I had to give away. Just one among them managed to survive all rigors and turmoils of a relatively normal, suburban household. That was a single cat who decided to live in our house one afternoon and who still lives with us to this day. That cat's tough as nails, smart as a whip, and can still chase small to average sized dogs off her territory at the senile age of sixteen. She can open doors and lattice windows, but she's too independent to be trained to do anything. I don't prefer any kind of pet, I rather choose to admire those who stand out for their resilience.

BTW Celesjessa you do relize you are gonna be one of those crazy old ladies on animal cops that has WAY to many cats and her house smells like cat urine and they will come to take them all away.

Actually, that kind of a lady lives in the house right behind mine... (My friend has over 27 cats, but they're barn cats so, maybe she'll be a cat lady)

I would have three cats right now, because my dad offered to get a new cat when Shadow died, but you know how it is, I didn't want a replacement, and now that the opertunity is gone, we can't get any more cats.... Darn.

But I love cats. ^^ Dogs kinda scare me. There's only a few dogs that I like.

Krylo: I wanted to name Oreo "Alfador", but my parents wouldnt let me, since he's basically my mom's cat.

I'm a cat person, without a doubt. I only own one, a female Russian Blue/American Shorthair. I can tolerate big dogs like retrievers, but small dogs drive me nuts. They're so damn yappy.

I have one pet. She's a 'mut' cat, in that we found her, and we have no idea what she it. The vet said she was 1-2 years old when we found her 3 years ago. Shes an in-out cat, so every now and then I get to go bury a vole or rat. Not declawed, and she's really pretty nice, only tried to bite me once.

Her name is Kitty.

I have many pets. I have three rabbits; Chester Bennington (or Chaz), King Robert III (or Bob), and Jesse James (or Jess). I have two dogs; they are Princess and Boo. Two cats are also mine; they go by Tip and Milo. A snake is Vanessa, and a lizard is Flash. The final pet is by far the most annoying; Arthur the yellow nape knows the word "Help!" and will scream it as loud as he can every ten seconds.

(By the way, it was a complete coincidence that two of my rabbits, Jesse and Chester, have the same names as the characters in my favorite movie.)

I am very much a cat person, I actually love all animals, but the one's I've gotten along the best with have always been kitties (named one of my cars kitty, and my wife's name is Kat) The oldest of the little monsters is a 4 year old female tabby named Boo!! (yes, the !! is part of her names spelling) That was a little monster when we first got her, which is why she was named after the kid in Monsters Inc, but now has mellowed out and is a fairly sweet kittie, still very much independent though. The next youngest is Gizmo, which is about 3 or 4 months younger than Boo!!, and is probably the most affectionate animal alive on this planet. He does have the tendency to show affection by 'kissing' you on the nose, and when I say kissing, I really mean biting. But he's gentle about it and like I said, it's how he shows love. And the youngest one I have, is a 4 or 5 month old creature of pure evil, His name is Graymalkin (free pringle to anyone who knows where we got the name) He looks like a small version of Boo, but he alternates between two settings, sleepy/snuggly mode, where he curls up on your lap and sleeps for hours, preventing you from getting up for any reason whatsoever (little known scientific fact, while a regular kitten only ways 4 or 5 pounds, when it falls asleep it's weight immediately increases by approximately 2 tons, thus preventing the laps they sleep in from standing up) and his other mode where, very much like Brian's kitty, Kurt (also my name oddly enough) he is prone to wanton and gratuitous acts of destruction.

I have two dogs at home, a large german shepard/no idea named Shiloh and a little Rat Terrier named Joxxer the Mighty(shut it, my mom's a Xena fan).
We also have a cat named Margarita(again, my mom) and a bird named Spike(yep, you guessed it, my mom's a buffy fan).

Three cats. One's an orange and white tabby, we think, that we call Flash. The other one is a bluepoint sciemese named Blue, and finally we got a little kitten that I named Excel. I don't have a good pic of Flash, but Here's a pic of Blue and Excel togeather (http://server2.uploadit.org/files/flarecobra-Kitty2.jpg)

Too bad the two of them don't like each other that much.

One gay, lazy and fat cat named Louis... but I often change his name just to confuse the vet. And people at the clinic are starting to get mad at me for this. He's only energic when he runs blindly around the house in the middle of the night to assault poor, innocent ankles.

And I also have a lesbian, athletic and lovely dog, Xila. (pronounced Sheela. I got the idea from Bastard!!, but I wanted to change the spelling so it wouldn't look like a complete rip-off.) She enjoys scaring the hell out of nuns and humping other (male) dogs.

Well, I recently have grown out of my cat allergy, so I intend to persuade my parents into letting me have one.

I'm gonna see if I cant find a gray one...or maybe orange.

I used to have a fish named Billy, but he died a while ago. Heh, he was a good fish.

Cats are just fine by me, but i prefer larger pets such as dogs. i've noticed however that i've started to develop an alergy to the family dog now that i'm not living with it all the time.

my current living situation isn't good for a dog, especialy since if i do get a dog of my own, it'll be a larger breed (maybe a Boxer or a Doberman, i don't find those dogs scarry, just adorable), and i wouldn't want to keep one cooped up in the city.

one of my former roommates had an antisocial cat for a pet, and when she behaved herself she was cool. its just hard to pet something that tries to bite you ever couple minutes.

I prefer dogs myself due to the fact that Cats are EVIL INCARNATE. I think my Grandfather said it best: If you have a dog, it's the pet. but when you have a cat, you're the pet. :p

Plus I'm allergic.

Anyways, we currently have a 9 month old black Cocker Spaniel named "Suzy" she's extaordinarily friendly and quiet (almost never barks or growels, unless there's a cat around) and if you ever try to pet her, she always rolls over on her back for you to rub her belly. She also assumes that whenever you stand up from the Kitchen table, you are going to feed her, even though this never happens and you have absolutely nothing in your hands.

Aw, I love cats! They're so spazzy and semi-homicidal! And cute!

Ok, here's my list o' pets:

Two Dogs:
1) Fiona Flea-Flicker: Female, terrier-poodle mix, looks like a tall West Highland Terrier. She's white, but her guard hairs are tipped in black and brown. She has a brown or yellow "racing stripe" down her back in the winter months, for some reason. She's about 11 years old, this little doggie of mine, and she is now blind due to diabetes. (Ever see a dog with cataracts? It's creepy!)

2) Gherkintrude: "Gurkie" for short. Female Pomeranian, 8 y/o. Long red fur, white around the face. Looks like a small, obese fox. We got her at an animal shelter a few months ago to be a little "guide dog" for our blind dog Fiona. And guess what? Turns out SHE'S GOING BLIND TOO. What are the odds of that?

Two Cats:
Two semi-feral cats who live in our barn. White with yellow and brown markings. My cat's name is Nero (short for Neurotic) and my sister's cat is named Norf. They like coffee cake, potato chips, and vanilla ice cream, I've discovered.

One Miniature Horse:
Sprocket's Rocket: Registered mini, class B. About 34" at the withers, if memory serves me. White with brown spots. He's got a perfect heart-shaped spot on his stomach.
We used to have a second mini, a bay named Two-Speed Diesel Thunder, (Thunder to you and me) who was trained to pull a cart. I used to compete in horse shows and driving competitions. We had to sell him, though, because he liked to dig under the fence like a dog and escape.

One donkey:
Fannie Brownbottom: The coolest pet evar. Big brown donkey with an oatmeal-colored nose. Very sweet and docile, although she runs on a tight schedule. If you don't feed her at the exact same time each day, she starts screaming at the house. Donkeys are loud.

One fish:
I have a betta named Mugen. He's red and blue. Not much to report on Mugie, he doesn't do much.

Okay...list of pets. No pictures at the moment. Maybe I'll break out the digital camera tonight if I think about it.

2 Cats (same age, came from the same litter)

1) Beef: Yes...Beef. Don't look at me, I didn't name her, my older brother did when he was younger and still lived at home. Beef has become the dominate animal in our house since the death of our older cat a few years back. If she wants attention, she'll let you know. If you don't give up willingly, she'll break out the claws and will make you well aware of her presence until you make with the petting. She is a rather overweight feline...main do to the fact the only exercise she gets is from tormenting the other cat. Is almost pathological about not letting Harvie have any fun. If Harvie is playing with the scratching post, Beef will chase her away from it, and will just lay down on it so Harvie can't come back.

2) Harvie: Also known as the Princess. If Harvie was a girl, she'd be a prissy blonde cheerleader type...cheerleader who happens to be scared of everything. This cat brings whole new meaning to the term scaredy-cat. She fears everything, from shoes to remote controls to telephones to the doorbell ringing. She's also a very picky eater. For example, she'll drink the milk that's left over after you've eaten all of your cereal(sp), but not straight-up milk. She's a rather skinny cat, and we've been trying to think up a way for her to be able to get at her food, but keep Beef away from it. Is constantly being picked on by Beef, even though Harvie starts the fight sometimes. If in trouble, Harvie will howl, which will bring our dog over to break up the fight.

1 Dog:

Bailey: A lab-mix. We're pretty sure she has some German Shepard in her, as she has an overbite, a curled tail, and definate sheparding instincts. She is the peacekeeper between the two cats. When Harvie howls, Bailey comes over and sticks her head inbetween the two cats to break up the fight. If dog hair was valuable, Bailey would be worth a mint because she shed constantly. She's gotten tricky in her old age. She'll pretend she hasn't been fed every so often, and will fake having to outside just so someone will come into the kitchen, then she'll go and beg by the stove.

2 Fish (bettas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siamese_fighting_fish):

Fitz) The more outgoing of the two. He's smart for a fish, and will flare at you then go over and flare at his food when he's hungry.

Two) The saga of Two is an interesting one. Originally bought to replace my sister's fish, who died while under our care, Two was named such because he was to be Harrison-2 (Harrison was the name of the fish who died). Unfortunately, Two was a sick fish when we got him. He was pale and wouldn't eat. We didn't think he would live, so my mom bought my sister a new fish when she got home from her trip, and we said we'd take care of Two until he died. Well, after awhile, he got his color back and started eating, much to our surprise. He's still a rather shy little fella, and will spend most of his day hiding behind his fake plant in his bowl.

While not a offficially a pet, every so often we get a jumping spider (a type my family calls hunters, but I don't know the official name) that gets big enough, he gets the honorary name Elvis.

I have two cats. They are both black. One is a complete moron. The other is manipulative and intelligent. The first screams at me for food. The second just tries to look cute, and if that doesn't work, tries to get my attention by giving me a creepy stare until I get up. The first pukes. All the damn time. The second one constantly demands things, like attention, food, or to be let in or out. Oh, and they fight constantly.

Wouldn't trade them in for anything though.

You can add me to the "Cat person" list, as I've grown up around them. My mother IS the neighborhood Crazy Cat Lady, and cats still flock around our old house, even though we don't live there. My mom still has 2 cats, PJ and Chester, and PJ is technically mine, but lives w/ mom. I'm fine with these arrangements, because my roommate makes more than enough mess for me to clean up, so adding a cat to the mix would be a recipe for disaster.

I'm in between pets right now, as my Skink, whose name was Spike, kicked the bucket a little while ago, and I haven't replaced him. I don't have a picture, but he looked an awful lot like this:

http://www.burlington.mec.edu/bsc/pictures/skink.jpg

I've been thinking of getting a hermit crab, or some other low-maintenance pet for my apartment. Any suggestions? Oh, and Hermit Crab owners, any pointers you'd like to share?

I have 8 cats and 2 dogs. I'm a cat person.

Kitties:
Meow Meow(That's not her real name that's just what I call her) - Shes the mommy and is half Siamese

Midnight - He is black with white paws and a white tummy. He is by far my favorite.

Pumpkin - She is an orange calico. She is the smallest of the littler.

Eminem(Not named after the rapper. We named him Emma when he was a baby because I thought he was a girl) - He is big and orange with white paws and a white stomach. He is the longest cat I've ever had.

Gray kitty 1 - After awhile we got bored of naming the kitties so we just call them kitty. Sad I know. But this one is gray with black stripes.

Gray kitty 2 - He pretty much looks exactly like gray kitty 1

Calico kitty 1 - She kinda reminds me of that cat from Alice in Wonderland(can't remember the name right now)

Calico kitty 2 - This is a stray kitty that adopted us. She is sweet but easily startled.

Dogs:

Oscar - He is a mini-daschund. I got him three years ago for Christmas after much begging.

Max - He is a blue tick hound. He howls all the time and loves to jump on people.

I may or may not get pictures later.

I have 1 dog, and no cats. I would like to get a cat, but my younger brother is allergic to cats.

My dog is a 3 year old Pembroke Welsh Corgi named Bandit. He is very energetic and loves to run around the house and backyard on his little legs. Amazingly fast for such little legs. Not unlike the characteristics of the breed, Bandit hasn't grown that much since he was a puppy. Bandit is not as mentally swift as he is physically, but my family loves him all the same.
I hope to get some pictures posted sometime.

ok, I own a pet rock...
and I mean this in the most serious way ther is to say, I had some real pets. They all either died of an accident involving; cars, water, neighbors, and other animals. so the count is 2 cats, 1 dog, 2 gerbils, a chick, a bird, and a pet rock.
They are listed in order for you convenience, the last one oviously I still have the pet rock that my grandpa gave me. I keep it next to my printer.

I have a cat, he's named Hieronymus Bosch - largely because he reminds me of the devils from Bosch's artwork. At least I fantasize that their personalities are somewhat similar - he works hard to thwart my various efforts, especially sleeping, which he disturbs with regulairity around 5 AM. He leaves mice in unpleasent places and likes to open up any closed packaging that can reach and manipulate with his paws.

We kind of have an understanding at times, but he flakes out and starts acting strange all of a sudden - you'd think after nudering he'd mellow out and start acting his age - but such is life.
