I suggest you take the opening speech from final Fantasy 1, use the music from said title screen, then have the 8-bit Characters slowly introduced with titles, like.
"He did it for his Country." (show Thief spinning knives)
"He did it for Power." (show BM using Hadoken)
""She did it for destiny."(show WM healing BM)
"He did it... for Sword chucks!" (Have Fighter run in waving around Swords and yelling AAWWOOOOO!")
Title: "this summer."
Title: "Nuklearpower presents."
Title: "in association with (your name here.)"
Lens flair
grow title: 8-Bit Theater!
show BM: Bolt-2 Mudda Fugga!
Coming in Jan, 2008
and insert random comics of each person doing somethin else in between each title. insert music from lord of the rings after the opening title screen.

Yeah, go with what Slightly Aboveaverage Man said. That's actually really good. OR...
(Absolute silence)
Thief: Explanation later...
(zooms on his face)
aquisition now!
(Remix of FF1 battle theme starts playing)
BM: (casts Hadoken) HA... DO... KEN!
Fighter: (Using two-fisted monkey style attack!) TWO FISTED MONKEY STYLE ATTACK!
Thief: I can steal anything that's not nailed down or on fire.
(music stops)
RM: (off screen) Oh, SWEET JEZUS! IT HURTS!
BM: This is the most pathetic battle ever. Let's never EVER talk about it again.
(Chocobo tune starts playing)
Title: This summer...
WM: Did you hear that?
Title: Prepare yourself...
BB: What?
Title: For the laugh of your life.
WM: A great disturbance in the order, as if millions of voices cried out to say "Oh shit,"
Title: 8-bit Theater, the Movie.
RM: My plans are brilliant, it's the laws of physics that always get in the way.

and you can do bloopers at the end. like:
He did it for his country, and have thief be stealing from the Director

Thanks Foof. I took a filmography course last semester. I had a similar project, I had to make a 5 minute movie. however, my script called for a 40 minute movie, and so we just made a preview. our teacher then sent this preview to a film festival, where it got a standing ovation. :D
your's is good too, although due to the rat bastard course I took, I constantly see the camera work and general outline rather than the actual movie. I discovered the way to make the 2 types of trailers.
1) Teaser Trailer: the one I posted is a teaser, rarely any diologue, mostly random images, set to music, and is usually only about 30 seconds long.
2)full length Trailer: usually a trailer that shows selected bits from the actual movie, spliced together in order to tell viewers about the plot of the story.
your's is like a merger between the two, leaning toward a full length. Improvements could be made if several plot revealing comics were added.
sorry if anything in this seems condecending, but that damn course turned me into a rat bastard cinic when it comes to movies. Good job though.
as for Cygnus.
1) awesome name, got to love the Assault Gunboat.
2) how are you doing the trailer?
Flash?
Live acting?
other?
and if Acting is the way you're going: 3) what editing program will you be using?
Edit: bloopers are another story, but that is an excellent Idea.

It would be AWESOME with live acting. The only thing that worries me is that to fit White Mage's part, it would take somebody with a "Hilary Duff" personality. That scares me. ...a lot.
slightly aboveaverage man
03-27-2004, 09:10 PM
well considering that this is a class project, I highly doubt he's going to get high paid actors for this! :D
I can bet any actors will be friends, family, or someone who he paid off with a snickers bar.

WHEN DID I SAY HILARY DUFF IS A CELEB?! All I said is that whoever played WM would have to be able to act out the kind of personality Duff does: Sarcastic, Easily Frustrated, and female.

The comercial is live action, thats the problem, it would be hard to do hadoken, and things like that

I have to admit the line "He did it... for Sword chucks!" (Have Fighter run in waving around Swords and yelling AAWWOOOOO!") is fucking hilarious, and i think i am going to use it

Live Action eh? what do you have in the way of supplies? Costumes? any additional Resources? due date?
Cygnus X1
04-01-2004, 09:48 PM
I got 3 weeks, i got makeshaft costumes for red and white mage, thief i just need some brown clothes and same for red mage (hat is the problem) and i need some toy armor for fighter, and the main problem is my grou[p is 2 guys 3 girls
slightly aboveaverage man
04-01-2004, 09:55 PM
well, you can pass off the girls as Red mage as well as Black mage and just use the two guys as fighter and Thief. (RM's face is covered by a scarf while you never see BM's face.)
just get BM a blue bathrobe or something loose and blue, see if you can pick up a straw hat. then always film in such a way as to make sure you never see BM's face, IE. it being covered by the hat. as for voices, you can use voiceovers on the girls voices if need be.
another aproach is to get the same person te play every character. I've seen it done and it works out wonderfully. for hats, try second hand stores like Value Village. if you do not have one, post an announcement at your school: if anyone has a cowboy/pimpin' hat, would they please see Cygnus x1. remember that the hat doesn't have to be red.
be prepared for a double post/edit in a moment, I am currently checking my previous posts to see if anything can be modified to suit your needs.

OOOOH! And for theme music, use this (http://www.ocremix.org/detailmix.php?mixid=OCR00625). It will kick all sorts of ass all over the place! But, wait about a minute or so to get past the opening.
[Edit] I say you use the part in the middle where you hear the power up when BM is shown on screen powering up a hadoken, then lead into the awesome main music with the title popping up on screen.

as for the Hadoken, you could just skip it and use the Quid Quo Pro line and have him stabbing RM.
on another topic, try to edit your post rather than multiposting to save bandwidth.
anyway, I will have to leave now, but I have 2 free periods tomorrow. I will consult my fellow filmmakers and come back with new Ideas and ways to make them work around say, 2:00 PM. look for it then.

Here's (http://www.ocremix.org/detailmix.php?mixid=OCR00308) a good remix of the battle theme if you want it. I think it's the one they use at the beginning 8-bit Theatre 2 on Newgrounds.

Hey man, my friend and I just mixed together a mediocre theme for your preview, it would go well with the idea that I presented earlier on, having fighters scream right after the classical music cuts out.

If you want a kick-butt Prelude remix, listen to Hardcore (http://www.ocremix.org/detailmix.php?mixid=OCR00738). Listen to the whole thing before judging. I like it. Slightly Aboveaverage Man, your tune is fun and cool but sorta repetitive, you may want to throw in, I dunno, lemme listen to it again.
EDIT: ELECTRIC GUITAR! That's what it needs.
slightly aboveaverage man
04-02-2004, 09:28 PM
well it's not actually mine, it is a remix of a matrix song and Back to Mad by Texas Faggot. my friend and I merged it, took out all inconsistancies and added that awesome Jet-like sound effect that gave it an awesome echo. It was created for the soul purpose of using it with a preview like the one I suggested, starting slow and classical for the intro's, then getting hard and awesome for Fighters appearance, while providing a continuous song with which to base all the other scenes around and ending with a short electronic climax with which a lensflare would go nicely.
but thanx for your support, I'll relay your message to my partner. (he's the sound guy in our group, and as such did all the real work, while I provided the grand plan for the song.)

View the trailer for the third one, and do something like that. It's your choice whether or not you want to use that ending...
Sauron: "Will any of this actually be used in the movie?"
Wayne: "No, it'll all be lost during post-production"
Aside from that, the style is quite effective.

So Cygnus X1, how goes (or went) the project?
Cygnus X1
04-04-2004, 08:27 PM
I havent done it yet, we are getting together thursday but Im having problems wit a Reedmage hat and with a BM robe (would a black robe work do you think?)
slightly aboveaverage man
04-04-2004, 08:48 PM
It won't be authentic, but that isn't top priority. do you have a hat for BM? if so, it can be used as RM's hat as well, just throw red construction paper on it and make sure RM isn't in any of the clips that BM is in. or, find an old cowboy hat somewhere and bend the brim.
have you decided on the script, or is that something that you will be working on this Thursday?
Finally, IMPORTANT: do you have access to any video editing software? if so what kind?
SuperSaienBlackFighter

Saw it before. hilarious, but the fact that it's on the internet proves that it had been done before. It could work if he added all new jokes in there and just kept the bare bones basics of the preview. Still loved it though. :D
just so he sees it. IMPORTANT: do you have access video editing software? if so what kind?
Cygnus X1
04-04-2004, 09:10 PM
I have no video acessing software, plus it has to be done on VHS not digital, but i have a hat i can use for red amge, but its sorta small and blue, but it got the bent rim and a featehr
slightly aboveaverage man
04-04-2004, 09:15 PM
It works.
Damn.
No editing software will limit any effects, including titles, that you put in your movie; making it cheesy by using Bristol Board.
It also means that you will have to tape every scene perfectly the first time. I suggest when you do your filming, run through your scene several times while the camera isn't recording, but still on, in order to get the best effect. as for the whole Bolt -2 thing, you can just have BM "say eat electric death old man." instead of "Bolt-2 Mudda fugga!"
Cygnus X1
04-04-2004, 09:29 PM
I am not going to do the whole Bolt 2 scene for Bm, I am going to do him killing the ladder dude offscreen scene, and I think we have one of them cameras with the screen on it so you can sorta edit it though the camera

Go to any dollar store. There must be at least 50 million plastic sword in there. Get some gray, perhaps metallic contsruction paper to make a paper chain and use it to attach the two swords. Ta-da! Sword-chucks!

If you want Sword-Chucks, a real sword is a bad idea. Plus, those fake swords cost like, 1 dollar each.

I'm with Foof on this one, get each person in your group to donate a dollar, then go on a 5 buck spending spree at the Dollar Store. that should be enough for you to get the toy swords, and maybe that armour for fighter.

Ok, im stuck with my script, i have this so far...
(Black Screen)
Narrator: He did it for Power
(Fade in from black)
Black Mage: I am the black mage! I cast spells that make people fall down!
(Fade out)
Narrator: He did for knowledge
(Fade in)

interesting
(Fade out)
Narrator: He did it for greed
(Fade in)
-Show thief stealing something from someone maybe fighter’s clothes with the censored sign-
(fade out)
Narrator: He Did it for… (pause) Swords
Fighter: I Like Swords!
BM: DIE (Black Mage Runs at fighter with his stabbin knife, Fighter runs)
(off stage) Red Mage: Dun Dun Dunnn
(Black mage stops and turns) Bm: How many times do I have to tell you to stop that?
(Camera to Red Mage) Red Mage: I know. I can’t help it. It’s just something that takes over and WHAM!
I dont know how to go into a second scene or what to do

That's really good so far. Kudos of the "He did it for knowledge" part.
You now just have to add the little introduction (meaning the title of the movie, actors, character names, etc.)

That is where the problem comes in, i cant think of how to do that

The titles can be made by puting them on Bristol Board, or you could have the narrator saying it, example: "John Smith as Red Mage" show red mage. etc.

Mine was better. Kidding, yours' is awesome, doable, and funny. Mine was nigh-impossible considering your equipment/budget/time. One problem: BM is the one with the "broom" line, and it's: "...so the broom talk backwards. Fastinating." How 'bout "must re-memorize entire handbook library." or something like that.
...And slightly aboveaverage man, it's FROOFmyster, not FOOFmyster. Just so you know.
