View Full Version : Call of Cthulhu RP: Their First "Special" Assignment...
Forever Zero

2:00 PM, Monday
It was a start of another day. After the horrible events at the House, and the banishing of the Lurker, life has settled down for the Investigators. They have settled into their new jobs, and life living at the mansion is nice. It has been a slow week, with no random murders ti investigate like last week, and since The Night, everyone wondered about the Cthulhu Mythos. They didn't doubt it existed, since no one could after all that happened, but maybe it wasn't as prevelent as Merriweather had put on. Life was returning to normal, both for the Mythos Vets, and the poor unsuspecting new frineds that had joined since that fateful night and new nothing of what had actually brought all these individuals together as friends.
Some were resting in the Den when there was a knock on the front door. Business was always welcome since maintaining the Mansion and their wide assortment of equipment was no small change. When the door was answered, an older man entered. He had aged, tanned, wrinkled skin, and was balding, but still had thick brown facial hair and a keen twinkle in his eye. He was short and overweight, but not huge. He said, "I've heard great things about you all, great things. Let me introduce myself, the name is Clyde Walford, but you can call me Cal. Hmm, sorry, speaking a bit fast, just instinct. I am a landlord down at Bosten, and the police there tell me you are some of the best private investigators they've seen recently. Solved a nasty murder for them if I do recall, police found no clues but you all put it together. Well, my problem is a house I have. Seems I just can't keep it rented, odd stuff seems to happen. I don't really feel comfortable telling the whole story, but if you agree to take on the case, I'll tell you all I know. Just don't know if you'll believe me before you know some money is on the way..." The man shrugged apolagetically.

Henry glanced around at the others. Then, he looked back to the man, Clyde. Hesitation was in his voice, but it wasn't obvious. "Can you tell us what kind of 'odd stuff' happens in the house?"

Thomas Monaghan, or "Tommy", to his friends, sighed to himself as he walked towards the mansion, pausing only to glance at the piece of paper in his hand.
Again.
It always came back to this.
He had taken leave of absence about a month ago, for personal reasons. As a result, he had to leave his employer, Gabriel Valentine alone for a while. Of course, his master had decided to get involved with a group of strange people and a man called Meriweather... who subsequently died. It wouldn't have bothered him, not really... but Gabriel had been one of them, and he had been missing for almost a month now.
After almost two weeks of fruitless searching, Rachel, Gabe's secretary, had filled him in on the details that she knew, and according to her, the people Gabriel had last been seen with occupied this place.
So he had come, to find some answers to the mysteries.
Then, he noticed a man standing in the threshold of the mansion's door. Rather than barge past him, Tommy chose to wait quietly behind him, listenign closely to what he, and the other occupants, had to say.

"Well, err... See, the last renters, they complained about "Strange" things happening in the house, and wierd dreams. Both of them... well... The husband had a nasty accident a few weeks ago and wasn't the same since, and just recently his wife went about as crazy as her husband, probably from taking care of her him..." He saw some people giving him looks after he mentioned the strangeness and he said, "Don't tell me you believe in ghost stories? The house was supposedly haunted, wasn't inhabited for a long time because of the rumors. I bought it on the cheap since no one else would buy it and recently refurbished it to rent to make some money. I need you all to look over the house and give it a clean bill of health for me so I can keep renting it out. Can you do that?"

Paul was listening in on the man's explanation, but didn't feel like talking. He always had trouble thinking of good questions, but was generally good at keeping things in his head. Then he thought of something. "What exactly were they doing? Homicidal behavior? Hallucinations?" he asked.

Henry nodded, answering for everybody. "Yes, we can check out the house. However, we'll need to know a few more things. The first two, such as the monetary payment and location of the house, are of course necessary for us to investigate the house. Also, to help us in this endeavor, I request that you tell us more about the haunted house; its history as well as those of it's former residents. That information should include the stuff that my friend just asked about.
"No, we do not believe in ghost stories, and what happens to people who live in 'haunted' houses usually has to deal more with their mentality, and usually those around them. If they expect something to happen with full belief that it will, it usually will in some form or another.
"However, the stories are often fuel for these delusions people have. It would be ignorant to say that they have no affect on the people hearing them. Therefore, it would aid us in our deduction."
ooc-Henry made all that stuff up. Time to put up his bluff skills to the test.

"Well, err..." Cal seemed somewhat flustered now. "I don't know much of the history, just what the previous owner said. I asked why he was selling the house so cheap, and he said it was because of a neighrberhood rumor about a haunting. Some old owner supposedly haunts it or something, no one really knows much, and the hauntings are only rumors. I don't know who the old owners are, just the last owner moved out of town shortly after selling the house."
"As for the location and price, I'll pay you $100 up front, no strings attached. If you walk, the money is yours. I'll pay you $20 an hour, and you get another $100 if the situation is resolved to my liking. Is that alright?" He puts out a hand, hoping to get approval of the deal, a hopeful smile on his face.

Henry once again looked around to his comrades, unsure what to do. He had a feeling that something was might happen if they went to that house, and that it would be dangerous; possibly more than the money offered was worth. However, if they pushed higher, it was likely that they would be turned away as the man seemed to wholeheartedly believe that nothing was going on, and they needed money.
More importantly, if something was up with the house, it was highly unlikely that the issue would not be resolved for many more years. Also, if the stories were true, then it might give them more insight to the Cthulhu Mythos, assuming it had to do something with it.
Then there was always the possibility that nothing would happen at all and that it was just a normal home with an unlucky streak of abnormal residents.
Sighing, knowing that if the others disapproved he could end up alone on this mission, he took the other man's hand and shook it. "You've got yourself a deal Mr. Walford. Now, where is this house?"

The man smiled and said, "Oh thanks a lot! Don't worry, I am good on my word. This house will be worth every penny if I can get it checked out okay. Here is the address, in a nice housing area in Bosten, and here is the key. You can get started as soon as you wish, and if oyu have no more questions, I'll be going, alright?"
OOC: Ecurt now has the key and the address.

Clara stood at the back of the room, not saying anything. She had been in another room of the mansion, tapping keys on her keyboard, trying to figure out a good tune for her next song, when she heard people takling about business in the other room. She had quietly turned off her keyboard and made her way to the room, staying quiet.
When they agreed to a new job, she was a little more than wary. She had still not completely recovered from the horrors of The Night. She had been a step away from getting killed as quickly as her other friends were. That's not something you can shake off that easily. But she decided that she would do whatever the rest of them did. If there were most monsters out there, like the one they had faced earlier, she wanted to make sure they were stopped.
She wasn't sure what exactly the group had agreed to check out, but she knew she wasn't going to just let them take care of it all on their own.

OOC: So is J Man trying to be the new Demon...
The man was shocked to see the quick action of the one man but said, "Oh, well, the husband was very bad off. Poor man went through screaming fits and temperary amnesia on and off. He was completely incoherent last I heard. The wife was not as bad, but she suffered from bad insomnia, apparently didn't sleep for days after being taken in. Very quiet, just seemed... zoned out may be the word. Like the lights were on, but nobody was home... Doctors had trouble even getting her to respond to anything but essentials like food and drink..."
"Well, if that is all, I'll be seeing you tomarrow to see how things are going!" With a bow, the little man turned and left. He walked out to his car and drove away.

Dave walked into the room just after the fat little man left. He had just moved in this morning, and had gotten lost in the large mansion. "This place is big..." He mumbled to himself and he made his way towards the group, not exactly sure what was going on.

Frankie had been sitting there watching the whole thing silently, over the bindings of one of his books. "You go ahead and look at the house Jim. If you end up without a heart we'll know to drop this case."
IHateMakingNames
03-29-2004, 10:24 PM
"Without a heart? What does that mean? What's going on?" Dave repeated what other people were saying and what he had said before, still not sure what was going on exactly. So far he assumed that some people were going to go somewhere to investigate.

Frankie chuckled a bit and held up the book he was reading. "Horror mystery. Just a figure of speech my friend... warning our impetuous friend against just walking into a house and situation we know so very little about..." He then turned back to his book, satisfied that the others would back his cover-up.

As the door opened, Tommy looked Jim over. He didn't seem aprticularly angry or hostile or weird, so he decided to try the standard line.
"Good afternoon. I'm Thomas Monaghan, a friend of Gabriel Valentine. Am I right to say that he was with you guys about two or three weeks ago, when you went to see some guy called Meriwether?"

Tommy barely contained the shock as he heard Henry tell him of Gabriel's demise.
Not again. Not another one.
He remained silent while Dave spoke, and at great length he forced a word out from between his lips.
"...Dead?"
Then he heard Neil call out the manner of Gabriel's death, and something inside him made him want to pummel the other man senseless. It passed, and he reminded himself that it wasn't his fault that Gabriel was dead. It hadn't been anybody's fault at all...

"So."
Tommy was rather surprised at how calm he found himself after hearing that his former employer, whom he had come to consider a friend during their brief time together, had had his heart torn from his chest. A feeling of nagging doubt crystallized in his mind, but he ignored it.
"So. He had his heart torn from his chest."
He glared at each of the people in the room in turn. Slowly, calm had passed... leaving only a growing resentment for these people who had killed his friend.
"What kind of people are you, anyway?"
His hands balled up into fists.

Clara nearly had a heart attack at what Neil had said. She quickly disguised her look of slight panic with a look of annoyance as she rolled her eyes and addressed the people who didn't have a clue... and SHOULDN'T have had a clue, "Don't listen to him. He's been watching too many late-night horror movies..." she trailed off, looking at the other people's faces, "Oh come on, don't tell me any of you bought that?" She said, quickly doing her best to cover up for Neil, "You're giving Neil waaay too much credit by believing his childish and ill-humored stories."

We believe that he, along with some other people, had been killed by some cultists a while ago when he went up to investigate a house, one that turned out to be used for ceremonies.

Tommy let his breath hiss out from between his clenched teeth. Then he closed his eyes and mentally counted to three, trying to calm himself down the way he always did. When he opened his eyes again, he fixed Henry with a piercing stare. In a tone of mock respect, he spoke.
"Please, sir... do tell me more. Especially about those cultists and those... bite marks."

03-29-2004, 11:07 PM
Clara noted the tension in the room, "Hey, why don't we all sit down and discuss this in an orderly fashion, instead of looking like we're all about ready to..." She trailed off, almost saying "..kill each other." but at the moment, death was a touchy subject and she didn't want to cause any more problems than there already were.
She motioned for everyone to have a seat, "We will be happy to provide you with as much information as we are capible of." She assured the two who didn't know what had happened. <Of course... we'll be lying... but you don't need to know that...>

After hearing that people were going to go to this house, Paul decided he would try to uncover more of what had happened at that house without going there. 03-29-2004, 11:45 PM
Frankie glanced back up at Tommy again. "Well, you can go to the police, they have the full story. I've already told you what happened in abbreviated form... if you want the full story then you'll just have to do the investigating. Or you can leave..."
The night and the discussions of it had put Frankie into a bad mood. Who could blame him, though? After having been bitten half to death by a zombie, and watching people die in front of him... it'd only been a few weeks, and he was annoyed at having to deal with this belligerent thug.

Clara sighed, "Hold on, It's not fair trying to take people into this without them at least having an idea of what happened... or to turn people down when they want to know what has happened to a friend." She looked at the others, then at the newcomers, "Alright, I'll tell you what I know."
"We went to see Merriweather on his deathbed, and he told us of something tormenting him. He wasn't completely sure what it was, but he wanted us to find out, so his 'soul could rest in peace', so he said. So, we were a little skeptical, but we decided to see out the old man's last wishes... after all," She added, "It was the least we could do." She sighed again, "And to make a long story a little shorter, it had been mad cultists tormenting Merriweather. We weren't sure why, but some of us have assumed it's because of his money, or some kind of debt he owed them." She sighed, sounding a little shakey, as if she didn't want to remember, and she really didn't, even though this was far from the truth, "After the cultists learned that we knew about them, they lured us into a trap... Perhaps so we couldn't report them to the police... or maybe because they were just mad." She said, glancing in the direction of Frankie, indicating that was how he got his wound, "They began killing, one by one, as if they were sacrificing us or something..." Her face looked sick, remembering exactly what happened in contrast to her story.
She motioned to the people sitting in the room, "The people you see here barely escaped with our lives." She looked down, "We're lucky that... that some of us got away." After her story she grew quiet and closed her eyes, resting them in a hand, as if she couldn't bear the memory of it.

"Hm...", is what Dave said in response to that story. After hearing that, and thinking back about the getting lifted by head then heart ripped out, and remembering some one mentioning Clara was an entertainer, Dave assumed this was a big joke.
"Ok then. I guess I'll go investigate that house with you all." He said as he stood up, making his way towards the people who were planning on leaving.

03-30-2004, 12:09 AM
Tommy found the story rather far-fetched. But there was something about the way she said it, the faint look of horror... He'd seen it before, in the shell-shocked eyes of new recruits who'd just survived their first artillery bombardment and seen their friends dead, horribly so. Yes. Those eyes, his own, reflected in those of Lieutenant Blake, now dead like so many others.
He'd overcome it, of course, and eventually things had come full circle, and he was the one pulling the new conscripts out of their stupor. But he couldn't help but remember the hollow in his heart after the world had come to pieces in fire and pain, the deadness he had made into a wall to keep reality away.
And something inside him told him that she was telling the truth. The other man, the apologetic one as well. Perhaps it was worth hearing them out... And they might need muscle along the way as well. Muscle which only Tommy-gun Monaghan might be able to provide.
"Then again... Maybe I should go see for myself. All right. I'll bite."
He gathered up his suitcase and turned to Paul.

The hotel lead had been a dead end. No one in town knew who Gabriel Valentine or any of Merriweather's friends were, or the just didn't want to bother checking the records.
It all linked to Merriweather, and that was with whom he had started looking. suffice to say when his son answered the door and saw Phillip again, he was livid.
But he had told him what he wanted to know. All the people on the list had been given a peice of property to them by his late father. If he wanted answers he should try there. Writing down the address he gave Phillip a cold smile and slammed the door in his face.
It wasn't a long drive to the house, but everything seemed to slow to a crawl. He had always thought that his first real case would be a challenge. He never thought he would be searching to find an old friend whom had just ... dissapeared.
He knew he was going to have a hard time keeping this proffessional as he drove up to the large estate. Walking up the driveway he was a little shocked to hear his heart beating hard in his chest.
Knocking on the door, he waited, trying to ignore the pounding in his ears. It didn't go away. When the door opened he thrust Gabriel's picture out.
"Have you seen this man?"
Tor walked down the stairs into the living room where everone was sitting.
-Hmmhm. Hvem er dere...? Oh, sorry. Who are you? Ah hi Clara, whatcha talking about?

OOC: Alright, anyone not mentioned by name, you can join whichever team you want. If you are on the list in th discussion, you are on that team.
5:00 PM Monday
The Investigation Team arrives at the house. It is a two story, throughly average brick bungalow. It seems in decent condition, if not for the fact that it is in between two huge buisness buildings, throwing the comparativly small house in a permenant shadow. As you push aside the rust gate, you notice the small front lawn covered in weeds and thick grass. It probably wasn't taken care of even when the couple lived here you decide. As you approach the plain, wooden door, Henry notes the ominous shadows and the thick curtains drawn over every window give the house an ominous look. A shiver goes down Henry's spine for no good reason. The group now stands at the front door...
4:00 PM Monday
You searched around for a while, and found it easier once you reached Bosten to get directions here then the other team had getting directions to the house. You pull up in front and get out, looking at the Sanitarium before you. A plain building of harsh edges and plain grey stone, it seems stark and unforgiving as you approach the front doors and enter. You walk into an empty waiting room with nothing but sterile white walls and an unfriendly looking nurse/secretary behind a woodend table. She glares as you approach her.
OOC: Investigation team needs to make their way past the nurse first, whether they sneak by or fast talk her, then they will get a chance at the crazy couple.

Henry, being the only one with the key, unlocks the front door and then removes the key. Twisting the knob slowly, with the memory of David all too fresh in his mind, he pushed it slightly open. Slightly as in you cannot even see inside through a crack yet.
Backing up a little, and making sure that everyone's not crowded together, he then kicks the door open. Unconsciously taking a deep breath, he prepares himself to run/dodge in case he saw anything out of the ordinary there.

But that wasn't the only thing that made him nervous. Even in the day... this place seemed to have a creepy air around it. When he focused on it, it disappeared, but when he thought of something else, nagging doubts and panic slowly began to cross his mind.

Henry, Tommy, Dave, and Jospeh looked expectantly into the house as the door swung open. The hallway is strangely sparse. You see a plain table near the door with nothing on it, and a mirror over it, but for the most place the hallway is empty, and littered with dust and random bits of debris. At a glance, you see six doors, three on the right and three on the left, and at the end of the hallway you see a stairway leading down to the basement, and a stairway leading up to other rooms.
Research Team
The nurse is wary, but with a combination of the doctor's credentials, and a convincing story of being part of the family, the nurse agrees to let you see them. She goes into the back for a bit through the door, and come backs a few minutes later, saying that the Husband is in a rather bad condition now and perhaps shouldn't be visited, but Mrs. Macario is willing to accept visitors. She leads you down the hallway and through a twisting maze of stairs and halls, but eventually you all find yourself in a waiting room. After a few moments, Mrs. Macario enters escorted by a guard, and while she looks at you all, wide eyed and in shock since you obviously aren't her family, she also looks somewhat desperate and interested. She sits down in a comfortable chair set around a table in the small room, where the rest of you are already seated, and sits expectantly waiting to see what you strangers are here for.

You call Dr. Armitage on the phone. He listens to your description, and he flips through his notes for a minute. After a while he says, "Well, I don't know of any specific monster that does all that... Actually, it sounds more like the work of some sort of sorcerer from the variety of effects. They are known for their servitude to the gods for magical strength, and perhaps one had bargained away something of his for more power and spells. I am not sure, but from what you describe, he must be in that house, since a sorcerer in the neighboring buisness buildings would be noticed, but it is a small house, and I don't know where he could be. That will be up to you all to learn. If you need any more information, call me." With that the Doctor hangs up.

Frankie shrugged casually. Truth be told, the ex-drifter was more than a little relieved that it was 'just' a sorcerer. "At least it isn't an invisible monster intent on eating our hearts, again."
His arms crossed, and he stopped to think for a moment about things. "Well... if it's been there long enough for all these ghost stories to pop up about it... I don't know if it's human. I guess we'll just have to go there and see what it is..." A look of concentration crosses his face as he thinks back on what Gabriella had told him. "Apparently the thing only came out at night... so I think we can assume that it, like the other creature, doesn't particularily enjoy light. I say we go and investigate during the day... search the house completely and send Tommy in any dark places first... he's big, so he might survive being smacked around a bit. He shook his head at the man and stopped for a moment before answering. "Well... I don't think warning them will do any good, and I'm not responsible for them. Like I said... you can do what you want, but I still say we just put that Tommy character on point if there's any dark rooms."

He kept his eyes wide open as he looked into the darkened interior, occasionally glancing at the ceiling. It wasn't the first time someone had tried offing him with murder holes, and he didn't expect it to be the last either.

You skim very quickly through the books, reading random pages. You notice little bits and facts, things Corbitt does in his day. You stop on a page and notice Corbitt buying the house form a wealthy merchant. You continue on, noticing the writing becoming looser and harder to read over time. He describes research on another page. In the second book, he talks about the religion he has joined, although he doesn't say the name here. The text is downright unreadable now, a difficult to read scrawl. By the thirs book, without careuflly reading, you cannot understand waht is written, but it talks about something he did, or summoned, you aren't sure. You close the book, your skimming taking thirty minutes. You find the writing and progressing failing mental state of Mr. Corbitt disturbing to say the least.

After searching through the library, with help and suggestions from the librarian, you gather a collection of books that might help. You begin to go through with them, and two hours later, you have found some informarion of note. The house was originally built by a wealthy merchant in 1835, but he fell ill and sold the house and left the state. He sold the house to a Mr. Walter Corbitt, esquire. You learn more, in that in in 1852, Mr. Corbitt is sued by his neighbors to force him from the house and the area, "In consequence of his surious [sic] habits and inauspicious demeanor." However, you seem to be having some trouble finding the actual resolution to this case, and what may have happened after that. The librarian suggests beginning a new search for this new information.

With more searching, you find a second case was brought against Mr. Corbitt's estate to prevent the execution of his last will and testament, which allowed for upon his death, he would be buried in the basement of his home. You can't find who was to execute this last will, or if the case was ever resolved. After the clerk lets him into the records room and leaves, Frankie gets to work. He pulls out docuemtns from the right year and begins to review them. After about an hour of searching, he comes across the proper files. There was a secret police raid on the Church, after multiple families in the neighberhood claimed that they were responsible for multiple missing children. The police struck the church at night, but the Churh members were well armed. In the ensuing battle, the church caught fire, and overall three officers were killed and seventeen cult members were eitehr burned in the house or killed in the gun battle. Oddly on recovered bodies, there seems to be little or no data on the subjects, almost as if there were no autopsies. 54 Memebers of the church were arrested, but only 8 were held and charged. Of them was the Pastor Michael Thomas. He was sentenced to 40 years in prison on five counts of murder, but he was able to escape prison in 1917 and fled the state. You learn that due to mostly illegal intervention from high, and unnamed, local officials, the story never made it to the papers and remained largely unknown to the public.

OOC: BLARG, U R DEAD! Just messing with you, here's what you really find...
You go up the stairs and see that there are four rooms, all along the left side. You open the first one on your left it find yourself in the bathroom. You see the usual: a sink, a bath tub, and a water closet. You look in the bathtub and find it partially full of old brackish water from the dripping faucet that won't fully close.

"Hey Revrend Ted you think we should head to the house and check up on the guys or drop this book off at the mansion first?" Marcus says heading towards the car. "That is after Frankie shows up of course..." He says...

Marcus and Ted waited for Frankie to finally arrive. When he did, everyone explained their latest discoveries to each other, then decided what to do next with their new knowledge.

Frankie looked up at the sky and thought for a minute. "Well, I'm guessing it's pretty late... probably somewhere between nine and eleven. The others are all probably back at the mansion... but you guys said there was a cabinet and some other things, but all you got was that... book?" A slight shiver ran down his spine, remembering that it was bound in human skin, but he quickly shook it off. "There might be something else down there worth looking at."

Marcus looked at Frankie "I will go down again I guess..." Marcus said with a little hesitation. "Just remember that the floor is extremely unstable and that you might be shoced by some of the things down there... Mark said heading back to the Church.

Frankie nodded and followed Marcus into the church, being careful to watch his step, as not make any more holes in the flooor. Particularily ones he would fall through. "Were there any other rooms that you could see besides the two you were in?" He slipped a hand into his coat, keeping it on his gun. He remembered that the symbol had been freshly painted, and he decided it was better to be ready than dead.

Once you return to the hole in the floor room, you look around. Debris and rubble covers any other potential openings. The only places to explore are this main room, and the room underneath this one through the hole.
Krylo
04-05-2004, 04:58 PM
"Guess not..." Frankie shrugged and hung his legs off the side of the hole before hopping down into it, not bothering to play with the vine as that it wasn't that deep (I would assume seeming as Ted only got a little bruised). Once down the hole he looks around in the dark. "Hey Marcus, toss down the light, or come down here, would you?"

Frankie grabs the flashlight and turns it on, glancing around the room, and finding the cabinets first. He walks over and attempts to open them.

Church Team
You rip open the cabinets to find stacks and stacks of papers. You pick over some and while they seem encrusted with mold and decaying with age, you can make out that these were church records. Pehaps searching through them will reveal something of use...
House Team
Paul opens the second door on the left and looks inside. There is an ancient bed frame with bare bed springs on it, and a dresser on the opposite wall from the "bed". The room obviously hasn't been used in a long time, yet from the sounds of it there were multiple owners of the house over the years...

04-05-2004, 05:24 PM
"Do you have anything we can keep these things in?" Frankie starts leafing through the papers quickly, not really taking the time to read them. "I don't want to read them in the dark here, but we can look through them back at the mansion... besides, I don't want to take the time to read anything in this place."

You open the dressers to find they are all empty. The layer of dust on the floor and the dresser speaks that this room has seen no inhabitants for years.

Frankie grinned back at Marcus and took the folder from him, stuffing it with papers, being careful not to tear any, and then handed it back to the doctor. "Thanks, that'll make things easier." His flashlight beam then went around the room once more, checking carefully to see if there was anything else of interest.

Paul looked at Tommy, the only willing person to go up to the second floor. "You go in there," he said, pionting to the first door on the right, "I'll go in here." He opened the next door and walked into the last room he would be checking out for the day.

OOC: As Tommy opens the door, Cthulhu eats him! Game over! J/K...
Tommy opens the door the first room and looks inside. He sees two small beds, scattered toys and children's trinkets, and models on a table. The previous family must have had children Cal forgot to mention. Otherwise, the room seems without anything of interest.
Paul opens the other room. He reveals an ordinary bedroom, with a double bed, a bookshelf, and a bedside table. As you look around, you are somewhat surprised to see Catholic crosses, saints, statues, and pictures everywhere in the room. There is a rosary and a breviary on the bedside table and multiple small statues of crosses and saints as well. The bookshelf has multiple pictures of Christ and various saints. They seem to have far more religious symbols then you would expect of even the most devout of Catholics...

Frankie looked at Father Ted and then at Marcus and a wry grin formed on his face. "So... who wants to read the human skin book?" He then thought for a moment and looked at a clock before adding an afterthought, "Or maybe we should just hit the hay and do this tomorrow..."

"That makes everything but the basement...." Paul said, walking out of the room. He walked downstairs, a wierd look on his face. "Uuuhh....Should we just leave or go check out the basement..." he said. The tone in his voice made it sound like he obviously didn't want to go down there. Hopefully there's still power down there, he thought.

OOC: Your good Spirit...
The book is massive, and will take days if not weeks to read, but you immediatly read the title as Liber Ivonis. You begins to flip through, reading random bits here and there, but not reading straight through. You soon the book is in terrible condition, with many burns, torn pages, deep cuts, and blood stains running pages deep and ruining large areas of the book. You flip over large areas of ruined book, to gain random bits and facts from the book. When you are done skimming the book, it is 1:00 AM, you have gained very little information from it, but you have judged their may be one or two complete spells in it after you have read it and learned more aobut them.

OOC: Last one was to Marcus, this one it to Frankie.
As you flip through the massive amounts of documents, you come across many ruined documents. Some crumble to dust in your fingers, others already disintigrated just by moving them into the box. However, by sheer luck, you come across one packet of papers in mostly good condition. As you read through, you only find one notice of importance in the deeds of this bizarre cult. It says, "... and also today the Reverend and some others went and buried Mr. Corbitt in the basement of his home, in accordance with his wishes, and the wishes of the One Who Waits in the Dark..."

Frankie looks over at Marcus after reading the last passage. "Is there anything in there about "One Who Waits in the Dark?" ...These papers mention 'his' wishes... namely in Corbitt being buried in his basement. It worries me and I'd like to know who this "One Who Waits in the Dark" is."
