It's Actually Dragonballesque! And it contains Kamehame-ha (http://br.youtube.com/watch?v=Yo4t8PeqJ6E)
Green Piccolo, Wire-Foo, Capsules, Dragonballs and i cant tell if this is the worst use of an IP ever or if they actually managed to pull a decent Dragonball movie here!!

Is this the denial or bargaining stage? I'm not quite sure.

im pretty sure im shaken between blind fanboyism and denial...
But the only thing i could think seeing this is that "It was better than anything i was hopping for... and if it didnt say "Dragonball" on the cover, it would be a decent lookin action flick!"

Yes, but because it says Dragonball, it is more than a decent looking action flick. That title gives it expectations that this trailer is not delivering on. And I'm Mr. Optomistic.

It looks like it's worth a shot. I loved MK2 so I'll probably be in my glory with this one no matter how hard it sucks. At least they made the capsule part look awesome.

Decent action movie? Really? 'Cause as someone who's never seen any Dragonball anime, that trailer just looks really dumb to me, and if I didn't know what it was based on, I'd have lumped it in with movies like Ultraviolet.

Huh.
They actually managed to make Dragon Ball even worse.
Bravo, Hollywood. Bravo.

I can already tell Grandpa Gohan will be the only redeeming feature of this film.

What's sad is that this movie is the product of the writers strike. Not knowing how long it would last, Fox needed a blockbuster action flick with bankable name recognition, and realized they owned the rights to Dragon Ball. They needed to bang a script out in the few weeks prior to the strike, so they hired this guy...
http://i38.tinypic.com/oiyqf.jpg
...whose writing credits include The Big Hit and Love and a Bullet. Then Fox gave it a $100 million budget and sent the crew down to Mexico to bang out a film by August 2008. Once the strike ended, Fox realized they didn't need it this year, and delayed it till Spring 2009 so that at the very least the FX team would have enough to time polish the turd.
Had the writers strike never occurred, there would be no Dragon Ball movie and we would all be happy.

and now, thanks to the current trend of Anime/Games/comic movies we all can expect these in 2009
- Thundercats
- Robocop
- Johnny Quest
- Centurions
- Castlevania
- Gi Joe (already confirmed as y'all know)
I was laughing at the trailer on the fact that they seemed to do exactly what i would expect to see from a Dragonball Movie with REAL actors .... it's just too surreal to be taken seriously.
But they managed to make a SPEED RACER MOVIE done by the guys who did MATRIX and eveyrbody was "oh... ok, that's not terrible"... so at least with this trailer im getting that vibe
The ultimate joke is that it can actually make enough money to spawn a sequel and THAT would be.... something.

Goku was all like "I'm not ready for this". Which is like a complete opposite of his characterisation. Goku flies at stuff, fights them till he dies, comes back to life, goes and fights them again till he wins. He loves fighting.
Maybe they have turned him emo.

It may have been the granola bar I ate a few minutes ago, but I almost vomitted when I watched that trailer.

Roshi in this movie is not a bearded old man trying to grope women 1/3 his age.
This fact ALONE means that this movie will fail to amuse me.
Wheres the dinosaurs? Wheres the talking animals?
It's not really dragon ball until Roshi grabs for boobs, and it's not really Dragon Ball Z until a mountain in the distance explodes. This is not anything related to Dragon Ball.

You missed the part in the trailer where a entire city blows up?

Cities blow up in everything these days. But distant mountains do not. That is a DBZ signiture.

To be fair, it's mountains, islands, and more random open space void of fauna or any other macroscopic living organism than there is surface area on the planet.

Not true! Theres plenty of scenes where animals run away from the battlefields prior to combat! Clearly they are smarter than the humans. And furries.

Worst. Movie. Ever. Til they make the Cowboy Bebop Live-Action movie... and the Naruto Live-Action movie. Then it will be like, third-worst.
I would've said Speed Racer as my pick for worst, but I didn't even like Speed Racer to begin with, so no disappointment there.
This, however, because of all the reasons mentioned and more, has every bit of potential to suck. SMcBP hit it right on the head when he mentioned Goku becoming emo.... if I were in a film like this, I wouldn't be ready for the suckfest either.

Agreed. I mean, that was the greatest part of Master Roshi. Now they turn him into Mr. Miyagi.
Not there is anything wrong with Mr. Miyagi, but if I wanted Mr. Miyagi I turn on The Karate Kid.

Personally I think Castlevania is the only option that could even be close to working out. But they already did Van Helsing in an unremarkable manner so I'd rather not see this attempted.
As far as Dragonball? It looks like the people who made this learned film by watching ONLY Sci-Fi original movies (like Frankenfish and the like) and then 10 seconds of Tony Jaa. They then wrote a script after lazily listening to a bunch of fanboys at a convention and reading a plot synopsis of the back of one of the DVDs with one picture of Goku as a Super Saiyan where they though "Well we can't get the size, but we can make the shape work for the hair." From there they spent the rest of the budget on hair gel.
I just hope we don't get an Uwe Bole of anime out of this. THAT would suck worse then the movie.
EDIT:
And by the way this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6nx0laRWdZI&feature=related)would be a more accurate movie in my opinion.

I wish I could give it a chance but it's just sad... I'm not going to see it not just because I'm cheap but because it'll be like throwing 9 dollars out the window. Still the special effects weren't to bad. And I like what they did with the capsules. Oh and Castlevania can be done very well since it won't take to much effort to get right.
