I'm sure all of you are aware of Greece, and some of you know about the Chicago strikes, but I'm pretty sure you guys haven't heard about the San Francisco Mall mini riot (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/12/20/BAV714SA8V.DTL)
or the New School Uprising (http://newschoolinexile.com/occupation.html). I only wonder how long this is going to last. I'm personally hoping the latter type continues for a long, long time. The former is more a mindless action rather than a well thought out plan, but it's action, which is more than what was happening before.

I'll just say that action is not necessarily better than no action. Revolution, if such instances can be considered that, should not occur for its own sake. There needs to be a point, and, above all else, that point needs to be a "good" thing. Rioting KKK members, as a hypothetical example, should not be regarded as a valid revolutionary movement.

I guess what I'm getting at is that we need to be discretionary in what actions we consider to be better than inaction. The riot at the mall was just dumb, and in no way promoted their cause except to give it notoriety. I don't see why it should be accepted as valid simply because it is action.

I would rather have good and bad action than no action because no action is saying that we can talk about stuff but we refuse to actually do anything. I understand your point- I included that story to show some of the stuff is pretty stupid- but if we're going to have responsible action we must also have irresponsible action. I know that action is better to have, because it means people are working to do things!
