So a bit ago, my only Wiimote got borked. (Friend said "You should totally mod this thing") and I recently bought a new one. The unfortunate thing is that the new one, while working - lights flashing and everything - won't actually connect to my Wii.

There's this little Synch button thing at the back, but the instruction booklet is literally ten different languages telling you how to put the Wiimote into the Wii condom.

The Wii itself ALSO has a Sync button. We aren't even 100% sure at the office how to do it, but we find pressing them both and just switching which one we hit first makes them connect.

I find luck holding the Sync on the Wii and tapping the Wiimote's sync button.

You need to press the one in the wiimote and them, press and hold the one in the Wii, this should make it bip and the light for "player one" lights up

Usually just playing with the sync buttons makes them connect.

And I see that you don't put your wii into the condom like you're supposed to. It's there for your protection you know.
I don't either...

Has anyone ever sent a remote to Nintendo to get it fixed? Because the one I got with Wii Play is always registering a hair shy of 5Gs on its Z-axis accelerometer, and the whole "bash it into your palm" thing that Nintendo recommends isn't fixing it. How long does it take to get it back? Will I have to pay for the repairs? Should i just give it a miss and buy a new one?

If it makes you feel better, I had the same problem and never dealt with it until seeing this thread.

I feel ya on the manual thing.

I hold down the one on the Wii while clicking the one on the Wiimote.

If that fails, I just flail about on the buttons until I get a light.

The Nintendonians have heard my call and premeditatively wrote a guide. (http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wii/en_na/ts/wiiremote.jsp) Thanks for all your guyses help.

Also:

I feel ya on the manual thing.

I know! It's like a page in English, a page in French, a page in Spanish, a page in Japanese, a page in Dutch, a page in etc. And they're all like "Take the condom and slide in your wiimote."

The 360 handles this really, really easily and in a straightforward manner. This post is not an attempt to say 360 > Wii or whatever, just to note my surprise that it's not similarly easy-peasy with the Wii [especially considering that they are both Bluetooth controlled].

No wholly applicable to your situation, but you can temporarily synch Wiimotes using the home menu, assuming you have at least one controller connected, and using the reconnect/connect option for controllers. This is what we do when folks come over to someone's place with more Wiimotes.
