War. War never changes.
Since the dawn of humankind,
when our ancestors first discovered the killing power of rock and bone,
blood has been spilled in the name of everything
From God,
To Justice,
To Simple Psychotic Rage.
In the year 2077,
after millenia of armed conflict,
the destructive nature of man could sustain itself no longer.
The world was plunged into an abyss of nuclear fire and radiation.
But, it was not, as some had predicted, the end of the world.
Instead, the apocalypse was simply the prologue to another bloody chapter of human history.
For man had succeeded in destroying the world, but War...
War never changes.
In the early days, thousands were spared the horrors of the holocaust by taking refuge in enormous underground shelters known as vaults,
but when they emerged,
they had only the hell of the wastes to greet them.
All except those in Vault 101.
For on that fateful day,
when fire rained from the sky,
the giant steel door of Vault 101 slid closed and never reopened.
It was here you were born.
It is here you will die.
Because, in Vault 101,
No One ever enters and
No One ever leaves. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GSq5aCZO5n8)

Who...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot17.png
Let's see... are you a boy... or a girl?
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Alright, decision time: GENDER!
Also, in order to streamline things a bit, I'm going to ask a few more questions:
Firstly, Alignment. Are we a good kid or a bad kid? (this will mostly just be used to decide on actions during the very beginning, and alignment will obviously shift--probably toward evil--as I ask you guys other questions on what to do)
Secondly, Hobbies/passtimes. I'm going to use this to decide on all of our stats and skills. Here's a few options. You may select up to three tiered via 1, 2, 3. First means you want it to be primary, third means you dabble.
Science! We like to mix up chemicals in daddy's beakers, but he doesn't let us do that so much since they blew up... That was cool, though.
Sports! We got onto the vault baseball team! We were even pretty good!
Shenanigans! We like to sneak around, get into places we shouldn't be getting, and watch the opposite gender undress in the shower. Ooh la la
Shooting! We really loved that bb gun dad got us for our birthday! We went down to the shooting range he set up for us all the time.
Reading! Grognak the Barbarian is AWESOME!
Socializing! The opposite sex is our plaything. In more ways than one. WINK!
Medicine! We like to help dad out at the hospital, when we don't get in the way, at least...
Fixing Stuff! It's a lot of fun to help Stanley repair all the stuff around the vault that's not holding up so good anymore, plus it helps keep everyone alive!
And, lastly, personality! Will also affect stats and skills. Also appearance, though I'll probably make a few and let you all vote on that. Select three of these as well, just to make sure we get enough votes. Once more, votes will be tiered.
PUNK! Man, I don't take shit from no one, man. Fuck you. I do what I want when I want, fuck.
NERD! Um... I'm... I'm pretty smart I guess.
Charmer! http://forums.ugo.com/image.php?u=17340&dateline=1153533074 Hey, baby! You know I always get my way...
Loner! ...Just leave me alone.
Daddy's Boy/Girl! MY DADDY IS THE BESTEST! MAN I DON'T KNOW WHAT I'D EVER DO WITHOUT HIM 'CAUSE I JUST LOVE HIM SO MUCH THAT THERE'S NO WAY I CAN EVER LIVE WITHOUT MY DAD!
Loyalist! Hurt my friends and I will fucking cut you. And then I'll kill you.

Hey can we reduce the image sizes a bit? As it is now they're ginormous.
I say let's have a good person, a guy, and have him be all melee bash-a-thon. Loyalist.

Shooting, shenanigans, socializing.
Charmer, with a dash of punk, a sprig of loyalist, and a big scoop of psychopath.

Seconded. Not that much smaller, but I'm on 1280x1024 and I still have to scroll sideways.
As for the character...

Alignment: Evil, but only Evil Lite. You know? The cool Evil, not the boring psychopath kind, the wastes has enough of those.

Man, a Fallout 3 LP is a great idea.
First: I'll vote guy, though I know girl's going to win. I sort of want to make this the "anti-DFM's LP" if at all possible, but that's not going to happen.
Alignment: Can we go with something more like "neutral, with major decisions decided upon by voters in this topic?" 'Cuz that kind of ambivalence would interest me, and keep the story fresh...we'd never actually know beforehand what decision the character would intuitively make, as the character him/herself would be more a "blank slate."
...Oh, wait. Just reread your description. You're several steps ahead of me on that one. Okay, for the time being, we'll be a nasty little bugger. I'd sort of like the kid to start off nasty and selfish and egocentric and become progressively more moralistic and worldly as the truth as revealed...though I'm well aware given the voters' pretensions we'll be going in the opposite direction. This is krylo writing this, after all.
1. Reading.
2. Socializing.
3. Fixing Stuff.
(Fixing Stuff is arguably the most useful skill in the game.)
Although I kind of want explosives as a tag skill just because I've never done it in my own game before.
Personality: Daddy's Boy/Girl, in part because I love Liam Neeson's portrayal in this game, but also because it'll make the LP have more an emotional resonance.
Failing that, as Daddy's Boy/Girl won't get the necessary votes: loyalist is essentially the same thing, assuming he/she would be as loyal to his/her father as to his/her other "friends." So loyalist is fine too, in fact, I don't really comprehend a massive difference.
EDIT: Helen was totally a bad kid, (if you were allowed to start as a Good Kid it wouldn't be the World of Darkness) and her socializing and shooting come before shenanigans.
Helen doesn't even have shenanigans. If she did, they'd be cruel and tragic instead of cheeky and fun like this character should be.

I mean, I guess I will if you want, but remember I'm going to be doing this in DFM's style, or as close to as possible. And, well, Fifthfiend is just settin' off all my 'too silly in context' alarms.

After counting the votes we had a tie on girl/boy. As that I like playing (with) girls more, and I like the name Lucy, we're going to be of the female persuasion.
Bad outvoted good by three votes, personalities were Loyalist in first, with Charmer and Punk tying for second, and our skills were Shooting with a small lead on Socializing with a large lead on Shenanigans, which had a large lead on everything else.
I forgot to ask about nationality so I just made her white. 'cause I am, and my last three characters have been minorities. She's a redhead 'cause that was the default hair color. Though I did deepen it slightly, as it was too crazy bright at first.
So all that said: Meet Lucy!

I can't quite tell where the voice is coming from, but after I blink my eyes a few more times the dining room comes into focus. Amata's here, and my dad, and some of the other people, including Paul... God I hope the rest of those brats aren't...

"I don't have to explain to you how important today is. You're ten years old, and in Vault 101 that means you're ready to work."
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot44.png
"And that means you get your very own pipboy! Get used to it. You'll be wearing it from now on. Your first work assignment is tomorrow."
What a douche. Interrupts my father just to remind me tomorrow's my first day of work? I don't know how Amata puts up with this guy.
Whatever. At least he's leaving now that I took his bracelet. Maybe now I can talk to Amata.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot45.png
"Thanks, Amata. This party is keen."
I mean, sure, it's kind of a lie, but it's not really her fault. She tried, and it's not like there are a lot of people to invite around here.
"You're welcome. But really, your dad did most of it. I just helped with the decorations and stuff. Anyway, guess what I got you!"
"Um... a date with Freddie Gomez?"
"Ugh, Gross! I didn't think you even LIKED boys. Especially not Freddie the Freak. Yuck! Maybe I should just give this present to someone who'd appreciate it more... someone who'd rather curl up with Grognak the Barbarian than Freddie. The question is, how could you tell the difference? Hahaha."
Just as I'm about to formulate a retort I notice the book in her hand and her mention of Grognak the Barbarian clicks. Annoyance at her teasing immediately turns to joy and I wrap her in a hug before taking the book.
"Grognak the barbarian? THANKS AMATA!"
Her father might be a jerk but at least she's a great friend.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot46.png
The party seems to be going mostly ok after that. Old Lady Palmer gives me a sweet roll for my birthday, and Stanley gives me a baseball hat. After some chattering about my pipboy that I don't really care about.
And then the robot cuts the cake.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot61-1.png
I let out an audible sigh at the sight. Great job, Andy.
I hear a voice from behind me...
"Hey, I saw Old Lady Palmer give you that sweetroll! Give it to me! I'm hungry!"
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot178-1.png
It's Butch.

I laugh. Well until he hits me. Then I laugh a little harder. Butch hits like... well I'd say he hits like a girl if I wasn't one.
Whatever, Gomez breaks up the fight and a few minutes later my dad calls me over to the intercom.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot60-1.png
"Jonas is waiting for you downstairs on the reactor level, why don't you go see him? I'll be down in a bit."
"Alright, dad."
I nod and head for the reactor, hardly able to contain my ex... oh great.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot67.png
"Why are you talking to me like I'm five?"
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot68.png

By the overseer, she's still talking?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot72.png
Please, Lord who art in heaven, let her shut up.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot179-1.png
Thank you, Lord. Thank you.
I make my way down to the reactor to see Jonas, with, thankfully, no more interruptions.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/canitjonas.png
"Can it Jonas, where's the surprise?"
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot74.png
"By the way, happy birthday! But we should wait a bit, I think I hear someone coming."
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot76.png
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot77.png
Hell yeah.
"Jonas found it down here. It was pretty beaten up though. Took us months to get it working."
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot78.png
I laugh alongside him. Dad always seemed like such a straight shooter, but sometimes I wonder what he was like when he was my age.
He hands me the gun and I lift it up, giving it a pump.
"So what do we get to kill?"
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot79.png
...Parents.
I look down the 'shooting range' with the magic of childhood joy filling my heart before answering.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot81.png
"This is great dad! Thanks!"
My dad spends a few seconds teaching me how to hold the gun, and then suggests I try hitting the targets, and it quickly becomes one of my favorite pass times.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot185.png
"As far as I can tell you're a perfectly healthy sixteen year old girl, so, yes, you have to take your Goat Exam."
Sometimes having a doctor for a father kind of sucks.
"If you say so, Dad."
With a sigh I head out into the hall...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot90.png
"I'll show you a REAL Tunnel Snake, Amata."
Oh, HELL no.
I walk over to Butch as he harasses my best friend and say in the most threatening voice I can muster, "You look like you're having a good time."
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot91.png
"How about you go 'have a good time' with someone else?"
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot92.png
"Just because neither of us wants to suck face with a dumb greaser punk like you, that doesn't make us Lesbians."
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot93.png
"Try it."
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot187.png
I take a second to spit on him as his lackeys back off and head inside.
God, I hate them.
Whatever.
I head in, but Butch went down too fast for me to work out my anger, and I can't concentrate. I really just need to get out of here.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot188.png
"I don't really have to take this stupid test, do I?"
He thinks for a second before answering. "I like your dad, and I might even like you if I weren't your teacher..."
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot189.png
"Cool. When I take over the world, I'll be sure to spare you."
We both laugh a bit, I fill out my results, and head home. Mr. Brotch, you're one of the good ones.

Nah, I'll say something useful. This seems interesting, but I feel a little like I'm missing out on understanding some stuff because I haven't played the game. It could be that the game really is just that incomprehensible at this point, I don't know. But like I said, still enjoyable. Yay for another good LP!

How can you not find Megaton? It's only like the closest town to Vault 101 and the one place you're directly steered towards right at the start. Hell there's even signs right outside the vault pointing straight to it.

You just ask whether you really have to take the test, stats have nothing to do with it.

That's strange. Megaton's so close to the Vault it was literally the first town I found.

Yeah, I missed the little waypoint indicator on my compass, saw Greyditch in the south, and went that way. After that, I just kept wandering around the map, doing dungeon crawls, and getting into trouble. As a result, I was leveled up a fair bit on finding Megaton.
Edit, and no, not every town in Fallout 3. That was hyperbole. I found a bunch though.

Seems to be advancing much faster than DFM's with a bit less narrative. Interesting all the same.

Well, I want some goddamn input! I'm getting a bunch of views, sure, but, like, Si Civa seems to be the only one that likes it and only because he's trying to make my life hell half of the time. I half-expect Elvis to have looked nearly exactly like that kid, but it's not like it's easy to find a picture of Elvis as a 10 year old to compare.

I open my eyes groggily to Amata standing over my bed ranting and raving.
"What... Amata... I'm trying to sl..."
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot101.png
"Wait, what? My dad's gone? I..."
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot102.png
I sit up in my bed and put my hands on her shoulders. "Amata, calm down, what's going on?"
She shrugs my hands off before continuing.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot103.png
"Oh... god... Amata are you...?"
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot104.png
"He did tell you he was leaving, didn't he?"
"No... I had no idea..."
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot106.png

I take the gun from her carefully, looking over the design. The weight is strange. So much heavier than my BB Gun. This is a weapon made for killing... killing like they did to Jonas.
I can feel my confusion and helplessness melting away as I lift the gun into my hand.
"Thanks. This will come in handy when I run into the guards."

I leave before Butch or his mom can say anything. I don't really care, anyway.
The tunnels are boring and steel grey as always. No more guards and no more residents, thanks to the constant blaring over the PA about how everyone needs to stay in their rooms. I guess I should be glad for that.
The first people I see are a couple of old classmates talking as I enter the atrium.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot198.png

"It's me! Tom Holden!"
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot130.png
TOM!
Holy shit... holy shit... they just killed them. I knew those two. We... we weren't friends or anything, but I knew them, and they didn't have anything to do with this.
They're murderers. That's all they are... I...
I need to get out of here.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot132.png
I crouch into the shadows and make my way to the stairs. They don't seem to see me. Thank God... I don't know if I could have won an actual fire fight...
As I come up the stairs I turn into a window with a man behind it.
He sees me.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot134.png
"Hey! It's you! Your father's the one who left and screwed everything up for us! HEY GUARDS! SHE'S OVER HERE!"
Shit.
I come around the corner and... It's Paul. The only Tunnel Snake who wasn't completely worthless... but now he's trying to kill me.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot135.png
I feel his nightstick smack into my arm, and there's pain, and before I know what's happening I pull the trigger.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot136.png
...I'm sorry Paul.
Jesus this is fucked up. I can feel myself losing my cool. I wanted revenge but now... I... I just don't know. I knew these people. Am I really any better than the Overseer?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot137.png
...Yes, I am.
I charge around the corner to the door and throw it open before Officer Mack, the sadistic bastard, can bring down the nightstick.
He turns to face me. I don't know what I'm thinking. I just know I can't let him hurt Amata. I can feel the gun in my palm, but I didn't know I pulled the trigger.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot140.png
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot141.png
Amata darts away as my last bullet flies through his head, gray matter painting the wall like some kind of new faux finish.
...I think I'm going to be sick, but the Overseer's still here, and I can't show weakness now.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot142.png
"No, I'm not here to turn myself in you sick fuck, and if you ever let anyone hurt Amata again, I will personally add a second coat to that wall."
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot144.png
I take a step back and aim the barrel of the gun toward his forhead, my finger twitching as I ready to pull the trigger, and he changes his tune pretty quick.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot146.png
I want nothing more than to pull the trigger anyway, thinking of Jonas, but I don't. And not just because I'm out of ammo. Thank God he didn't know that.
"If you weren't her father I'd kill you anyway. You have no idea how much I want to see you die after what you did to Jonas... but I won't."
I turn around, put the gun back in my shirt, and almost walk away... but I can't. I can't kill him... but...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot155.png
I whirl around and give him one good punch square in the jaw. I can hear the bones in his jaw crunching at the impact and he goes down.
I feel better now.
With that I prepare to leave, but decide I should check the lockers first.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot150.png
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot151.png
Thank God. More ammo.
I walk through the hallways, my hand wrapped tight around my pistol. I think I can feel my knuckles turning white. I'm almost there, though. Another few corners and...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot156.png
...Jonas.
A quick search reveals a note from my father. He tells me that I'll be safe here. That I shouldn't follow him. That he and mom wanted better for me than that.
I sigh as I look down at Jonas once more before turning away. All that anger I had... it just melts away. Leaving a hollow feeling. Jonas is gone and... I... I think I liked the anger more.
I give my self a moment to dry my eyes before heading to Amata's room. It's nearby and I figure I should check and see if she's there.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot199.png
She is.
As soon as she notices me she starts talking. Her voice is rushed and she sounds like she's stressed to the breaking point.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot158.png
"Are you ok?"
"Yeah... But you... I mean, he is ok right... after what you did to..." She seems to be on the verge of tears. For the first time in my life, I'm glad that her father is alive.
"...I hit him, but just with my fists. I... he'll have a headache that's all."
I don't tell her that I wanted to kill him.
"...Thank you... but, you'd better go." It was almost a whisper, she's weak and she needs time. I don't know if I'll see her again before I leave, but I nod quietly and take my leave, heading to his office.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot159.png
Let's see... what would he use as a password. The only thing important to him... was... maybe his daughter? I hope so...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot161.png
Bingo.
I make my way through the tunnel and come out the other side in a few minutes.
And just like Amata said, the panel is just a few steps away.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot163.png
A large machine inserts into the door
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot165.png
And it rolls open with the hiss of stale air rushing outside.
A voice comes from my side. "Wow, you really did it! I didn't even think it was possible!"
I spin around before the words register with my gun in my hand.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot168.png
I lower the gun.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot169.png
"I do what I set out to do."
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot170.png
"Why... don't you come with me, Amata? This place is a wreck, and I could use the company."
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot171.png
I give her one last hug. It feels odd, now. I don't know why, but I don't have time to dwell on it as I can hear guards on the other side of the door shouting to get in. I turn and run out.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot173.png
Guess I can't go back now.

SO! DECISION TIME!
Easy one. Pick a direction. Any direction. Or say megaton/main quest if you want to do that.
For my own sanity, I ask that if you want to blow up Megaton you have me go elsewhere first, so I can have Lucy become properly corrupted. I had her leaning toward evil but mostly neutral, due to the fact that I used a bit of a slider with the votes, and evil didn't win by that much. Also it's hard to be evil and loyal to friends at the same time.
And Ryong, those hobbies weren't real choices. I just used them as a way to decide personality and which skills to tag, but yes, you do get the bb gun no matter what. You don't even choose your tag skills until the test I skipped with Mr. Brotch.
The reason I did that instead of had you all vote on three tag skills is because a) It would give me guidance, in addition to what we do in the game, as to where to put level up points. b) there's like umpteen million skills and I didn't want to list them all. c) Fewer choices means fewer people lose out. Like there's three shooting skills. Big guns, small guns, and energy weapons. If I had listed them all, only about a third to half of the 'shooting' people would have been happy with the vote.

I really want Lucy to destroy Megaton but if she goes to Megaton now, she'll develop connections to the people there and she's just too nice a person right now to backstab the people of Megaton if she meets them. So she needs to meet someone else first, be properly corrupted, and The Family might just be the ones to introduce her to a bit more of her darker side. The Family's a good easy(ier) quest to do at this time, and I don't think Lucy's strong enough yet to fight her way through DC, which would be the other natural impulse for anyone leaving a vault (held towards what looks like civilization.)
So I'd have Lucy head northwest, perhaps under the flawed assumption that DC was actually nuked and thus would be over-radiated.

What can I say? I don't really trust Fallout 3's ability to make an Elvis-like adult properly scale down to his maybe-childhood look.
Alas, it does not matter. If you are indeed correct, then Elvis was an ugly motherfucker as a 10 year old.

No Megaton means no Wadsworth, so you can just go straight to hell. That said, I say we venture east to seek the guidance of Dong Fang Qing Long. The gods wouldn't have abandoned us in these times.... right?
Fuck it, I say east towards Ten Penny Tower.
Stick with the Neutral/Evil sliding scale, it's a lot more interesting to read about a character who's constantly having to balance survival with at least a little bit of moralizing instead of DARTH LUCIFER, EATER OF WORLDS AND OF CHILDREN.

I tend to find whatever works best generally works best. So guns, blades, fists whatever, s'all good. Depends what the stats are like right now though really, no point going with melee if small arms is already way ahead, or whatever.
Usually though it's prudent to have at least one weapon in every area, so I'm thinking shishkebab + sniper + Fatman + alien laser gun should be a winning combo. And Dogmeat, of course.

Fun fact. I shot him dead, and then reloaded, because it seemed too far out of character.
Edit: Fixed some of the pictures.
Did you shoot him, reload, punch him dead, take a screenshot, then reload again?
Because that's what it looks like, and I'm just wondering if punching him kills him or just knocks him out despite the empty life bar.
Krylo

The picture of him unconscious is from the hallway altercation--which only knocks him out if you keep hitting him after he calls off the fight.
When I murdered him and reloaded, it was when he was running up to ask for help with his mother. I killed him before he even said anything.
As for fighting style, as you all voted for shooting to be her hobby, I figured she'd be relying mostly on guns, being most comfortable with that, and falling back on whatever was available only when she ran out of bullets.

But back on topic. I say megaton, and dont blow it up. Evil or not it is a good base of operations especialy with your own place. You can still rob everyone blind and slaughter half the town, but it has alot of side quests, a place you can make your own, shop, and medic. Just because your evil doesn't mean you have to be a homicidal maniac that kills for the sake of killing

So yeah, guys, I'm not going to be the one deciding our moral compass. That's you guys.
Part of the reason I did this was so I could play again with no responsibility for my moral decisions. Obviously I can't stop at every little choice for decision time, but anything remotely important I will.
Like I won't be deciding how to deal with the family without consulting you guys.
Speaking of--votes so far:
Megaton - 2
Arefu - 3
Tenpenny - 1
East - 1
Scrapyard - 2 (dog meat)
As that the scrapyard and Arefu are both NE, that's probably where I'm going, but I'm not closing voting yet as I'm too tired to want to make another post right now.
So, next vote question--do we actually bother helping the people of Arefu, or find them non-helpful to us and leave them to rot, probably happening upon the family itself later on.
Also of note: I'm not sure if we can do blood ties (Arefu quest) without going to Megaton, as it actually starts with Lucy, and without her note to her brother I don't think we can actually fix things there. I mean we can kill the shit out of people and what not, but we can't complete the quest line. Though I CAN still walk away with a sword which is also on fire.
Edit: Also their child problem, I don't care what mods you have to download.Link me the mod and I, myself, will vote for this moral choice. Little Lamplight will be AWESOME.

Just a note for krylo:
If you do end up doing the Arefu quest it's worth noting that you can receive the quest without speaking with Lucy from Megaton. In fact, the quest takes a darker tone if you don't speak with Lucy or receive her letter as it becomes much more difficult to convince the young kid to leave the Vampires and return to Arefu, if you're aiming for the "good" path. But you can still receive and complete the quest -- the quest starts by speaking to the guy who's the "sheriff" of Arefu.

I vote for Megaton, just to get the info about Daddy from Moriarty and his crew, get Lucy's letter that starts the Arefu mission, and to help lovely crazy Moira Brown with her Survival Guide. And I say nuke Megaton, then help the ghouls at Tenpenny Tower - Moira's the only person you really bond with in the town and she survives the blast and everyone's a dick in the tower.
Before you do Moira's landmine retrieval mission head over to Paradise Falls (it's north of Arefu) and pick up the Slaver missions. The head slaver pimp will give you a really fun mission after you find Little Lamplight.

This is actually why I asked for directions, because I haven't played in months and don't really remember where everything is all that well.
Just checked on my finished game and yeah, Arefu is almost directly north, just a little west, while Scrapyard is North by Northeast.
Also: Little Lamplight isn't so bad if you're two things. A) Not a complete monster who just wants to murder children the second they say something nasty, and B) Good at talking. The problem with the ending was that it was a fairly decent, traditional ending for most RPGs, but the Fallout series always circumvented traditional endings, and the beauty of Fallout's approach was the concept that there were as many potential endings to the story as there were ways to roleplay your character. Resolution was provided for nearly every decision you made about nearly every village on the map. Every choice mattered, and every minor quest seemed to have a payoff.
Whereas in Fallout 3 the pervasive feeling is pretty much "why'd you even bother with all those subquests, because none of them mattered anyway, you just should have gone from straight from point A to point B and finished the damn thing. And even if you choose to live, you receive absolutely no details as to what your life is going to be like, so there's really no point in choosing to live. And your morality decisions are summed up in a single, irrelevant sentence! What's the point of being good or evil if the true ending plays out the same damned way?
Aerozord

Heck you can skip many required missions. My first playthrough I never even went to GNR. It was rather unrealistic for them to not only place it in a raider/super mutant infested area, but also have you go through what amounts to a maze to even get near it. You should not make the second place you are supposed to go, one of the most difficult places to get to

He relaxes a bit, maybe at the fear in my voice.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot222.png
He's got fear in his, too. I guess we must be kindred spirits.
"So, where do you come from?" he asks, still sounding fearful, and a little suspicious.
"I..." I don't want to tell him I'm from a vault, at least not if he hasn't figured it out from the giant Vault 101 on my back. He probably thinks I just scrounged it up from somewhere.
"I don't know... I lost my home so I'm just wandering the wastes now."
It's the truth. More or less.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot223.png
I nod and walk in, only to be accosted by another resident of this fine community.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot224.png
"Oh who am I kidding?" he continues, his voice losing most of it's edge, though not all, "Look, we're in trouble here. If you want to help, great. If not, just please do't kill anyone while you're here."
"Trouble?" So far this gated community thing is looking a little iffy.
"Well, we've got Super Mutants out that way, and Slavers up that way. Take your pick." He doesn't actually point to any ways. I don't think he knows how to communicate properly.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot227.png
"The best we can ever hope for is that they get here at the same time and fight over who gets to kill us."
This is getting a little uncomfortable, listening to all his problems. I don't know what they expect me to do. "Why don't you just leave?" It's about the only suggestion I can think of. It's what I'm planning on doing.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot229.png
"Besides, the bunch of us can't even hold this town. Can you imagine us shlepping across the wasteland?"
It looks like they're going to die either way, but I don't say that. "I'm sure you'll be fine."
"Yeah, we'll see." He sounds angry. I don't think it's with me, though.
I'm about ready to leave but then I think of something, "These... Super mutants? What are they?"
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot232.png
"They came and rounded up a bunch of us and carried them off! God! They... they must be doing awful things to them..." his voice seems somber for a minute, but it passes as he quickly reapplies his false demeanor of bravado, "I'd go rescue them, but then who'd protect the rest of us? I patrol every day now, and I got a little surprise for those Muties when they come back. This Kick Ass Gun! Yeah Baby!" He laughs. It doesn't sound... sane.
"So where do they come from, anyway?" I try to avoid the subject of his 'bad assery'.
He looks over my shoulder right out the bridge into town. "Up north, the Germantown police station. You... going to rescue them." There's hope in his voice for the first time. I don't know if I have the heart to crush it.
"I uh... maybe. I'll look anyway."
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot237.png
His voice is drooping now, the hope draining out of him, visually even. He knows I was lying.
I feel like shit, but what could I do?
Whatever, I walk away and notice a girl with what looks like a rifle on her back.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot238.png
"Hey, is there anyplace I can get supplies or anything?"
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot239.png
"Oh..." I glance around a bit, and I notice that there's no children at all. Just this group of people. No old folks either, but that might just be because of the slavers and mutants, but there should at least be a few kids somewhere... and more people than this.
"Where did you all come from, anyway?" The last guy mentioned Lamplight, and maybe that's a city that's not a total hell hole.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot240.png
She sounds happy as she reminisces, but, like most good things, it doesn't last, her voice becoming somber and dark as she continues, "But then we got big and we had to leave. Those are the rules... so we left and came to Big Town, but...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot241.png
"I'm so tired of being frightened all the time." She sounds like she's going to cry.
I make some half-hearted apology for her situation and head back out of town. This isn't sounding like a place I want to stay.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot244.png
He said the mutants were coming from the north... I was going that way.
Maybe I should re-evaluate.

So, do we help them or not?

I'll vote North. Save these people.
You think we'll survive germantown with a 10mm pistol and no armor? The poor girl's never even SEEN a super mutant!
I vote Arefu!

For the record you've also never seen me play.
I could take on Germantown with my BARE HANDS.
Making it believable, now THAT would be the hard part.
That was mostly my point. I could do it, I just don't think Lucy could.
Dammit I want to play Fallout 3 more now. >_<

For the sake of story continuity, I'm going to say Arefu.
Though it would be fun to see Lucy maul Germantown, I think I like her characterization too much as is to want it dramatically changed into "Super Mutant mass murdering crazy mastermind of violence" just yet.

I say Arefu, I still want her to be a blood sucking cannibal.
But lets remember, Lucy isn't a nice character. She is neutral leaning on evil. Why would she go up against the super mutants to save a bunch of people she doesn't even know. Wait till you get to Paradise Falls so she will have some motivation to do it

Just do what I did; kill everyone in Big Town, steal all of their stuff and then she won't have to worry about saving anyone! But I'm guessing that's not likely to happen. At the very least have Bittercup come on to you, just to creep Lucy out and have her hightail it outta there.
I still want us to find Dogmeat, but it looks like I'm already out-voted for now, so head to Arefu, then we can get in with the Family.

Also: I'm pretty sure I have a good way to do the police station without compromising Lucy's current personality, so don't worry about that in so much as your voting goes.
Just what you'd rather see next.
Edit: P.S. Voting is currently tied. Six and Six for north and west (Germantown and then Scrapyard and Arefu, respectively). Next update will be on Monday or Tuesday (my days off this week). If it remains tied, my own vote will be for Germantown/North. I only count my vote if it's a tie breaker, though.

I'm actually a big fan of Lucy being mostly neutral with slightly evil tendencies, as she has now. I don't really want her to turn into a psychotic maniac, Krylo is too talented of a storyteller to use a cliche fully evil character. I am rather enjoying reading her as she is now.
And I think I would enjoy seeing how she, as she is now, handles the super mutants.

Yeah, I vote that she goes North. Maybe she'll spy on the Super mutants to see just what they are? That's what I thought to do when I first played anyway, so it's how I would justify her going there.

Oh, I know. I thought maybe she'd be seen, and then she'd have to fight or die to escape, and it would go from there. I dunno how she would be goaded into actually entering the building, but I figured you'd think of something better then that idea anyway.

Then again, maybe I should just see what these things are. I'll be better off that way if I run into them in the wild.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot244.png
I set off toward the North, wondering if this is really such a good idea.
Things weren't looking any better as I moved. The world was still dead, roads and homes cracked and destroyed by nuclear devastation... a complete wasteland. I may never understand why my father left the vault for this.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot338.png
The most promising thing I've seen so far is a town on the edge of extinction and a bridge that seems to still be standing.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot245.png
Over a camp with more people... and what looks like a working boat? I almost decide to check on it, but I notice they're dressed just like the ones who tried to murder me on sight earlier. I quickly decide I'd be better off just sneaking away.
The trip through the wasteland drags on, and I almost forget where I'm heading as I travel past the endless death. I'm pulled out of my thoughts as I hear the sound of a growl coming from behind me. I spin around pulling my gun.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot250.png
Fuck!
I stumble back in surprise, pulling the trigger. I'm certain at least a couple of bullets hit the half decaying dog, but it doesn't slow down.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot252.png
I backpeddle continuing to fire until first one, and then the other dog lays dead on the ground.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot253.png
It's starting to get a bit dark now, but I decide that making camp out here would be suicide. I decide to travel forward until I can find some kind of structure to hide in, at least.
A storm is blowing in by the time I find anything, and I have a feeling it's the police station the people back in Big Town were talking about.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot255.png
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot256.png
The place is fortified all to hell. If I'm lucky it'll be some remnant of the military camping here instead of mutants. Maybe I'll finally find a safe place to stay out in this hell hole.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot258.png
Shit! What the fuck is tha...
I hear a sound behind me and turn my head before I can finish my thought.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot259.png
I feel pain as the club smashes into the side of my head.
And then I don't feel anything at all.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot260.png
Urrrgh...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot261.png
I let out a groan as I regain consciousness... at least it's dark.
"Hey! You alive over there?" it's a female voice calling from the darkness.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot262.png
"Urrgh... y.. yeah..." I call back as I pull myself to my feet, glancing around my surroundings. My head's throbbing, and as I reach up I can feel a little blood on the side of my face. I'm alive, though, so it can't be all that bad.
"Good!" She sounds happy, excited, but her voice comes back down quickly as she continues, "Though... I guess you might have been better off if they had killed you."
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot265.png
It's about now that I realize I'm standing in a cell. A jail cell. This must be the prison. And she must be... what did they say her name was? It doesn't matter I guess.
"Why... would I be better off dead?" I ask back as I lean against the wall, letting the pounding in my head slowly beat away to a low throb.
Her voice sounds... broken. Weak. Like she'd be crying if she had any tears left. "I... I don't know what they did to them... I just know they drag them away... and then... and then the screams... they last for hours... and then... nothing. They... they took Shorty away shortly before you woke up, but I haven't heard the screams yet. You'll understand soon..."
I shudder and check to see what I still have on me. They took my gun, obviously, but they don't seem to have found my grenades. Not that they'll be helpful here. And... my bobby pins. They left those and my trusty screwdriver.
Maybe if I'm lucky...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot266.png
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot268.png
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot267.png
Bingo.
My first act was moving to let out my fellow prisoner, but as I pulled out my screwdriver and bobby pins a voice came from in the hallway.
"Hide," she hisses between her teeth, "and get out of here if you can. Don't worry about it."
I nod and scurry into the shadows of a nearby corner as quickly as I can.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot272.png
Thundering footsteps move closer, and I can see the barrel of a gun poking through the door way for long minutes that seem to move into hours, before the footsteps begin moving away, and finally fade into nothing.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot273.png
I move into the hallway cautiously. My heart feels like it's going to jump out of my chest, and I'm sure those creatures can hear it as I sneak along the corridors, trying to find a way out. Any way out.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot275.png
Land mines... if I could just...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot343.png
Yes!
I quickly stuff the landmine into my jumpsuit, figuring this is the kind of thing that just might save my life if they notice me. I hear someone coming and quickly scurry out of the room, moving through the corridors as silently as possible.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot281.png
Everything's silent. I start to feel a little safe... until I look toward the door.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot282.png
Shit shit shit!
I toss a landmine down and back out as a bullet embeds itself in the wall behind me.
Fuck.
I duck around the wall and watch as he plods through the room.
Just a few more steps... And then he steps on it. The explosion follows.
YES!
...
The smoke clears and...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot284.png
FUUUUCK!
I turn and run, dashing into a supply closet and closing the door behind me as I crouch down in the corner, praying silently that he doesn't find me.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot287.png
"Where arrrre yooooouuu!"
"HAHA You're right here! Or HERE!"
"STOP HIDING!"
I can hear him as he searches for me. He's not far away now.
The door opens trapping me in the corner, I can see his arm through the broken glass for a moment. My body begins to tremble and it takes a conscious act of will to stop it. To stop myself from sobbing in terror. I'm going to die. I know I'm going to die.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot288.png
After a moment the door closes again and his footsteps trail away. I let loose a breath I didn't realize I had been holding.
I open the door as quietly as possible and move back into the corridors, hoping to find a way out.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot278.png
I stumble, knocking a few pieces of rubble down, and I hear a shout.
"I CAN HEAR YOU!" The sound of a deep terrible laughter follows. My blood freezes as the sound of thundering footsteps come straight toward me and I scramble into a nearby room as quickly as possible.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot289.png
A bathroom.
I throw myself into one of the stalls and hope he walks past.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot290.png
He doesn't.
He laughs once more as he lowers his gun toward me, but I don't really hear it. My fear drives me, no longer paralyzing, as my instincts kick in. Like a cornered rat, I fight. I don't expect to live, but still I fight.
Leaping forward I grab his gun, managing to move myself away from the barrel before it fires as I sink my teeth into his arm, across one of the burn marks from the earlier land mine.
He screams and throws me backwards into the toilet, shattering it. I don't feel anything except the sharp piece of of broken porcelain in my hands as I drive forward again. I don't know what I'm doing, but I can feel the blood. See the gouges across his face. Feel his arms beating into me, but I'm in a death lock now, driving the shard of porcelain into his face again and again, even as it cuts through the flesh of my own hand.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot291.png
I don't know how long it lasts, but when it's over I'm barely standing... he isn't.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot292.png
His rifle is at my feet, and a quick search of his body reveals a few more rounds.
I heft it and limp from the room, barely moving.
Another mutant. I'm too tired, too injured to run.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot301.png
The bullet tears through its arm, and the gun he had been holding falls to the floor. Whether from surprise or pain, I can't be sure. All I can be sure of is that he needs to die before he reaches me.
I slide another bullet into the chamber and fire again.
And again.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot303.png
He falls dead.
I check his body and the area around it. A chinese assault rifle. Nice.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot304.png
And the key to the jail cells.
Someone's going to love me.
The cells aren't far away. In fact, it seems like I've gone full circle as they're about two steps away.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot305.png
"Hey, are you alright?" she asks as I unlock the door to her cell.
I don't answer her, just tossing her the hunting rifle from the last mutant and a few rounds of ammo. "Let's just get the hell out of here."
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot312.png
"You don't have to tell me twice."
The corridors are about the same as before, but quieter now. Maybe those were the only two mutants?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot313.png
I notice a trail of blood on the floor and follow it. It either leads to wherever they've been killing people, or it leads out. I'm hoping for the latter.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot315.png
I'm starting to believe the former. Either way I don't have any better idea of where to go, and my companion isn't saying anything one way or the other.
It occurs to me we still haven't heard any screams.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot316.png
I come around the corner and enter the next floor. It doesn't seem too much diff...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot317.png
I fall to my knees as I struggle to keep the contents of my stomach in place. I manage to succeed, but judging by the sounds behind me, the lady in red isn't having as much luck.
Lady in red? Oh yeah, that's her name. Red.
Weird thought to have as staring at organs an... oh god.
I quickly turn away and notice some kind of storage area and a first aid kit.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot318.png
Riffling through the boxes and cabinet I find my old pistol, which I quickly shove into my belt, some ammo, and some medical supplies. All of which I help myself to.
"You're going to eat me, aren't you!"
Voices.
I follow them silently.
"Sooo hungry..."
"You've got plenty of limbs right over there, why not eat them!?"
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot320.png
"Not fresh... not warm..."
"I hope you choke on my bones!"
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot321.png
"Not on YOUR bones, little man!" That same sickening laughter from before. I'm not sure if I'm more afraid or angry now, but I know that thing has to die.
"WHO'RE YOU CALLIN' LITTLE!?"
I pull the trigger.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot323.png
I don't let go.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot324.png
Red moves in to look at the body.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot325.png
I try not to concentrate on the bags of body parts littering the room as I walk over to Shorty.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot326.png
I tell him Red's here as I untie his arms.
"Let's go."
He nods and grabs the mutant's rifle before following me out the door. I still don't know where the hell I'm going, but I noticed a locked door
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot328.png
I easily jimmy the lock hoping it's the way out.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot330.png
It's not the way out, but I don't think I can complain right now.
I search around the rest of the room hoping to find some ammo for my new hand held nuke launcher, but all I manage to get my hands on is another hunting rifle and some ammo.
Not that I'm complaining.
It's about then that Shorty speaks up.
"Hey, this is the basement. The way out should be up stairs, you know, if you plan on leavin'. Just seems like a good idea to me."
I look over at Red and she looks down. I make a mental note to mention something about maybe telling me I'm walking into potential death instead of the way out after we get back to town. Probably not a good idea to say anything with Shorty here, though.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot334.png
I make my way to the stairs and hobble up, the weight of the fat man wearing on my injured body. I hand it to Red and ask her to carry it for me. She just nods and does so. It seems a little heavy for her too, but fuck if I care.
The whole place seems a lot easier to navigate now that I'm not running for fear from super mutants, and it doesn't take long to find a door leading out.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot335.png
I've never felt so happy to see the total devastation of the wasteland. Well I've never been happy to see it at all before now, really, but that's beside the point.

If I never see another super mutant, it will be too damn soon.
Do you really get thrown in a cell if you get your ass kicked by a super mutant there?
Krylo

No. You die.
I had to use console to turn off clipping and sneak into the jail cell in order to pull all that off. There were other difficulties as well, which resulted in multiple reloads. Namely that the mutants really enjoyed wandering into the prison and killing Red for no reason. It wasn't until later that I realized I could have just used the console to revive her.
Oh, yeah, by the way:
Arefu or Scrapyard, or someplace entirely different, next?
Obviously I'll go back to Big Town first, but I don't think that's going to be a full post.
Also: Stick around to help with the midnight attack or get out of town asap.

Surprisingly worked really well, considering I had figured A - you would have died instantly and B - the only way I saw you take two Super Muties yourself was with some pretty crazy tactics.
Either you told the story really carefully or berserking unarmed fits Lucy well. Maybe both.
Solid Snake
01-06-2009, 02:39 AM
Yeah, there's definitely a level of skill entailed in beating up those muties at Level 2 that I simply seriously lack. I know it wasn't until around Level Six that I began to find muties remotely manageable with guns. Then again, I played a small guns character with next to no explosives, unarmed or melee skills.

Going to Arefu leads to a quest you can't actually complete without first speaking to the other Lucy in Megaton, because the whole quest to save Arefu is directly linked to saving her brother, so there's no point heading there yet. Even if we can do the quest, it's all talk and no action, which is boring.
I still say Scrapyard first; we can pick up Dogmeat and then wander north into Minefield and be accosted by a deranged sniper. Good times will be had by all.
Also heading that way brings us ever closer to stumbling over the crashed alien ship....

Actually, I think you can complete Arefu with a high enough speech skill. Not 100% certain you don't need the letter first, but you don't actually have to mention the letter to complete it.
Mirai Gen
01-06-2009, 06:05 PM
The letter only sends you to Arefu, Lucy West almost has nothing to do with the quest. You don't even have to return to her for experience if I'm not mistaken.

If I am not mistaken, you can give the letter to her brother and tell her you delivered it though. You can't tell her her parents are dead though.

The Artist Formerly Known as Hawk

You can tell her her parents are dead if you start the quest in Arefu. I did on my second go, but couldn't gain access to the Families inner sanctum without first returning to her and getting the letter (well, I could, but everyone except the guard tried to kill me. It was only by saying I had a letter from the guys sister that I was allowed inside).
Not sure if high speech can overcome this though.

Well, let's get the hell out of here then, shall we?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot344.png
The trek through the wastelands is mostly quiet. I can hear Red and Shorty talking between each other, but I don't really pay that much attention to it. I just keep my eyes on the wastes. I've yet to walk through them without SOMETHING going wrong, and with two more people traveling alongside, I doubt I'll have better luck this time.
But, the travels ARE quiet. Nothing seems to go wrong. That is until I reach the bridge from before.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot345.png
I remember the people camped down there so I turn and signal Red and shorty to keep down and quiet.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot348.png
We move across the bridge carefully and silently, hoping to avoid trouble.
Gunfire.
I turn around.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot349.png
Where are they?
I hop down off the bridge to see the gunman aiming up at the bridge. I take careful aim and...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot351.png
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShotdeadman.png
I love this gun.
I rush toward the encampment. I know I saw more than one before, and his friends must have heard the commotion.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot352.png
As they see me they pull up their weapons.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot353.png
I return fire.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot354.png
My bullet tears his head clean off, decapitating him. Yesterday that would have probably made me ill. Now, however, I just smile lovingly at my gun.
I walk back to the corpses and free them of any valuables they might be carrying. Ammo, weapons. Whatever.
Rummage through the camp, as well.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot357.png
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot358.png
Turns out I was wrong about the boat, by the by. It doesn't work anymore.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot364.png
Either way, I head back to Red and Shorty, and we head toward Big Town together. It's not much further.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot365.png
Home Sweet Home.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot366.png
"Yeah, hey, they said you were a doctor, you think you could patch me up a little?"
Her eyes widen a bit, and she nods quickly, "Oh... oh yeah. You got pretty beaten up, didn't you? I'm sorry, I was so scared I didn't really even think of it..."
"Yeah. It's fine. Just... take care of it, would you?"
She nods and brings me to her clinic, pulling out some bandages and painkillers, wrapping, and drugging, me up. I'm starting to feel better when she suggests I go and lay down at the common house across the street.
As I walk in I'm accosted by a young girl. Looks to be in her late teens, maybe. Probably about my age.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot368.png
I answer her civilly enough, trying to maybe make a new ally. "Hi. I'm Lucy."
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot369.png
She... just keeps talking about fashion and how everyone thinks she's silly and how she likes the word like, so on and so forth. I'm about to deck her when I hear something outside and use it to excuse myself.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot370.png
You know, I said I'd be happy if I never saw another one of these things again, but I'm actually feeling pretty good about this. Sure it might knock me unconscious drag me back to its lair, and eat me alive in the most gruesome manner imaginable, but at least it's not going to talk to me about lipstick.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot371.png
I fire the sawed off shotgun right into the thing's head, turning it's face into a red goo, but it doesn't even slow down. I fall backwards, out of the way of it's swing as gun fire rings out around me.
I roll up onto my feet and come around behind it as it prepares to attack a bystander
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot373.png
Firing another shot into the back of its head finishs its life and it slumps to the ground, more slowly than I would like.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot374.png
Ejecting the shells from the chamber I spin around to another mutant preparing to charge. I quickly slam a few more shells in and flip my wrist snapping the shotgun closed as it comes at me with a sledge hammer.
It pulls back for the strike and I pull my trigger. Shotgun versus hammer. The way nature intended.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot377.png
Shotgun wins.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot378.png
I look back at the town, the mutant corpses littering the ground and decide to get the hell out. To hell with resting, and to hell with being these people's hero. I've done nothing but nearly die ever since I've been to this godforsaken hole in the ground. I'm out.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot379.png
That looks like a good direction, why not?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot380.png
Fuck.
FUCK FUCK FUCK!
I'm taking aim before I even know what I'm doing, the cool lacquer of the shotgun's pommel against my sweaty palms.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot382.png
The gun flies from his blasted hands, and I feel a momentary elation, but he's not done yet. I pump my other chamber into him.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot384.png
Shit, it didn't even slow him down.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot385.png
I backpeddle away firing at his legs hoping to slow him down, but it doesn't seem to phase him as he continues his charge. It becomes apparent that he's going to catch me and tear me apart, and I stop running, taking aim as he charges for one last shot. Either he dies, or I become lunch.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot386.png
Yes!
Super mutants--Zero. Lucy--honestly I've lost count. God, I hate those things.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot387.png

It would have been insensitive of me to let him die alone, don't you think?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot401.png
...Well that was fun.
And I feel pretty good about ridding the world of those two... though I'm a little worried by my lack of reaction to this. I know I should feel ill, disgusted... angry maybe, but I just can't help feeling anything but justified in killing those two.
Whatever. It's not as bad as the mutants, anyway. I'm getting out of here.
Still don't know where I'm going but not here sounds better than here.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot407.png

So we're at Arefu. I'm going to guess you people want me to help out and go hunt down The Family, but once I find them... then what?

"Kill the family, take the shiskebab, and utilize it as an awesome weapon" is my preferred option, and Lucy could well be justified in slaying cannibals. I see it is an ideal potential "neutral-turning-evil" option for her as she could still justify it as a morally acceptable solution insofar as she views The Family as inhuman.
But I suspect others will want Lucy to be nice and learn the dark arts of the Family. Either's better than siding with Arefu, negotiating with the family and not indulging in some vampirism.

Hungry enough that she sides with cannibals? But yeah I vote leave the family alive. You could also justify it by them being the only group that hasn't shot at her or asked her to save them from super mutants so far.

Not to mention the literally hundreds of stimpaks everywhere. But I don't even use food or stimpaks; I live on a diet of purified water, bloodpacks and cannabalism. I haven't touched another form of health restorer in well over 10 hours.
On this matter though I'm split; on the one hand, shishkebab (we absolutely must aquire this at all costs) so we could just kill them and steal it, but on the other, we can gain shish schematics from helping them anyway and we can also learn the hemophage (sp?) perk.
Also judging from how Krylo's been playing Lucy I doubt she'd really want to side with vampires anyway, or do anything that risks her life again, but she certainly may enjoy the ruthless killing that can ensue.
Meh, as long as we get a shish, schematics or otherwise, I'll be happy with whatever we do.
Solid Snake
01-12-2009, 02:28 AM
If you let the Family live, though, don't you almost automatically gain positive karma?
I'm still of the impression that it would be awesome to have a paranoid, cannibal-hatin' Lucy dispatch some not-so-friendly "justice" on The Family the moment she realizes who they are and what they've done in the past. But my perspective is very much influenced by the necessity that Lucy use a shishkebab immediately. Also, don't we have enough Let's Plays going on starring neutral-leaning-evil women who drink blood? ;)

Thought the only cannibal mutant in Arefu was Lucy's little bro, the guy you're supposed to 'rescue' from the Family. Lucy should kill off the Family, since they're vampires and they're 'attacking' Arefu - at least, to her point of view.

I'd say... talk to them.. get the perk, because 20 HP per bloodpack is awesome, and then kill them all and let god sort them out. Then you get the schematics, a brand new shish AND Vance's sweet sweet jacket.
Now, I don't know about anyone else but I went down there and tried killing them all and releasing the boy, but some glitch cause it that after I killed enough Family members the people of Arefu became hostile to me! But yeah... talk to them, get the boy out then slaughter the lot of them after you get the sweet perk. Then you can raid their supply stores too! Although... I think even it they're all dead it's still considered stealing so you'll rack up negative Karma... but hey, who knows. Go for it!!!

"Get over here before they see you!" He waves his arm gesturing me over.
I decide that he isn't going to shoot me anymore and head over, though I keep my hand on my side arm.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot417.png
"Who the hell did you think I was?" I ask, with maybe just a little more anger than was entirely necessary.
He sighs a bit, "Sorry about that, really I am, but it's just... this goddamn gang. The Family they call themselves. Been patrollin' around here and harassin' us. Normally it's just a bunch of stupid bullshit, bustin' shit up, makin' lots of noise, scarin' people, you know, nothin' big but," he gestures wildly toward the bottom of the bridge, "They gone killed our Brahmin! That's goin' too far! They're our lifeblood out here in these wastes yanno!"
Gangs? Apparently assholes like Butch exist everywhere. At least their name isn't as stupid. Tunnel Snakes. Jesus...
"So if they're just a gang, why don't you just take them out?" I mean, he's obviously got some decent weaponry considering the dust cloud he blasted up in front of me.
"Nah, there's somethin... not right about them. I don't know, they're stronger than us and they got bigger guns. Got the weapons and the muscles. Why the hell don't they just take us out? What the hell do they want!? It's got me goddamn creeped out!"
"Yeah... well... I was just passing through so..."
"Hey, if you don't mind... I ain't heard from the Wests in awhile. They live in the house all the way to the back there, and I can't leave my watch. Could you maybe check on them? Tell 'em Evan King sent ya." He seems genuinely worried, and I figure, it's just a quick little walk.
"...Yeah. Why not?"
"Thanks a lot, miss... we're in a bad way out here, and I can't risk those hooligans gettin' at the citizens."
I just wave and continue into the town.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot419.png
...What a terrible place. And it's under attack... isn't there any place decent in these wastes?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot420.png
Sun's setting. Maybe I can find someplace to sleep... the wasteland is bad enough during the day. I don't want to see what it's like at night.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot421.png
Welp... this looks like the place.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot422.png
...And this explains why King hadn't heard from them in awhile...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot424.png
I can't tell what killed them, but I have trouble believing it was human. They're pretty messed up...
I turn the light on my Pipboy and take a closer look around...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot423.png
The Family.
...But... wounds like these, it looks like they were attacked by a wild animal or something. This... isn't good. Best let Evan know.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot425.png
I inform him that Mr. and Mrs. West are dead, AND that 'The Family' was written in their blood on the wall. I also mention that it looks like a wild animal tore them apart.
He goes pale. "Ah hell... they... attacked? But I've been watchin' this the whole time, and there ain't no bridge back there how'd they... Shit, you said Mr. and Mrs... you didn't see no kid there did you?"
"Um... no, just the two terribly mutilated corpses... why?" I ask, a bit confused by his sudden leap of logic.
"The boy! They had a son, and I seen him talkin' to the family down there... Ah hell, he was always such a nice boy too... he musta snuck them in somehow. God only knows what they're doin' with him now. Listen... I'm... I'm too old for this. Could you help me out... just find the boy and bring him back, and if you happen to kill some of those freaks along the way I ain't complainin'."
I look out over the wasteland for a few minutes thinking about all the things I've seen up until now. The terrible things that have made me so desensitized in two fucking days that I can look at what The Family did to the Wests without feeling even a little sick. Fuck it. I need someplace to sleep.
"Tell you what, you get me a bed and I'll bring you a couple of heads. Sound good?"
He looks a little surprised by that. "That's... that's it? Just like that?"
"Listen, I'm really tired. Don't test my giving nature, alright?"
He nods quickly and then thinks for a minute, "Well... ain't really no place to sleep 'round here... though I guess The Wests won't be needin' their place any time soon, and I doubt The Family's gonna try to kill 'em again..."
I just sigh heavily. "Yeah... great... thanks. Fuck it, I'm going to bed."
I don't listen to anything else he has to say as I turn back toward the murder scene.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot426.png
Then again... there is one more house, and Evan said he's not leaving the barricade...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot427.png
Nice place Mr. King...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot428.png
I decide to relive him of a little ammo while I'm here. Sure, it's not the most... moral thing to do, what with The Family and all, but I figure as that I agreed to hunt them down for him, it's the least he can do to give me a few bullets.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot429.png
...Even the bed is wonderful. Hope the old man doesn't walk in on me while I'm sleeping, god knows what the old crazy would do to a young thing like me... fuck it, I'm too tired to care, and I can be reasonably sure he's not gonna kill me at least.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot430.png
I wake up and head out. It's just after dawn and the wastland is positively hideous. God I hate my life. Whatever. Best get after the Family... where the hell would they be?
Maybe Evan would know?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot432.png
"Yeah, about that... any idea where I'd start lookin'?"
He thinks for a few minutes. "Well, it's pretty dark when they attack, but they usually seem ta come from the east someplace. There's a few places out there. The Outdoor Movie Theater... the old Baseball Field... and uh... the Mersetti Train Station, I guess. Don't really know where exactly. They're all somewhat to the east. Station's on the North Side of the river here, while the other two are down on the south."
Great. Well... the Theater and Field I've been to... so that gives me a pretty good idea of what I'm looking for, and more or less where it is. "That helps a lot..."
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot433.png
As I leave town I wonder why the hell I agreed to help them...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot434.png
Welp, over the river and through the woods, to the crazy murderers I go...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot435.png
What the fuck is that thing!?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot436.png
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot437.png
I fire my minigun into it, bullets chipping away at it like a jackhammer, but it barely seems to notice.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot440.png
More bullets! ALL THE BULLETS!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot441.png
It finally dies. Jesus. What the fuck was it?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot438.png
I toss out the old ammo box and reload my nearly empty minigun. Odd that they call it that. It's pretty fucking huge, after all.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot439.png
I decide to check out the dock and find a medkit. Grab some stimpaks from it, and a few bandages. However, as I'm pocketing them I hear the dock boards creak behind me.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/extralurk1.png
Goddamn, another one of them. My back's to the water, and they seem to be aquatic. Gonna have to stand my ground.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/extralurk2.png
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/extralurk3.png
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/extralurk4.png
I'm panting as it finally falls to the ground. I'm running low on ammo in this thing. I'd best g--
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/extralurk5.png
Shit.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/extralurk6.png
Double shit. How many of these things are there? No time to think now. I start backpeddling and shooting. It's difficult to do with the weight of the gun, and its considerable kick. Thank god I spent so much time learning how to handle a rifle--gatling gun ain't the same, but without some basic understanding I'd probably be on my back being torn apart by these things.
The bullets rip through their carapaces, but not fast enough, and the whine of the spinning barrels turns into an offensive clicking noise.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/extralurk7.png
I turn to run while stripping myself from the harness as quickly as possible, letting it drop to the ground behind me, while I reach around to pull out that assault rifle from the police headquarters. . .
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/extralurk8.png
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/extralurk9.png
One goes down, but it clicks empty, too. I toss it back on my back in the sling, and draw my side arm.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/extralurk10.png
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/extralurk11.png
I'm panting, and trembling as I stumble away. My breath is ragged and I just want to be away from there now.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot443.png
After what feels like hours of wandering around I find something that seems pretty familiar. I must be just north of Big Town... but there's a train yard, and this does seem east.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot452.png
Hey, another human, and he's not dressed like one of those psychos. Ain't seen that in the wastelands before. Convenient too...
"Hey!" I shout while waving one hand, the other on my pistol, ready to pull it and blow his ass away if he was like every other crazy I've seen so far.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot453.png
He's not.
"Hey, how's it going?" he asks, leisurely. Apparently some people HAVE gotten used to this place.
"I'm alright," I respond half heartedly, "getting used to the wasteland..."
He looks me over an eye cocked, then smiles, in what I hope is recognition, "Ah yeah. Vault Dweller, eh? Didn't know there was any vaults left locked up, well, welcome to hell," he says taking a drag of his cigarette, "'course, even in hell we can always have a little fun, eh?"
I groan inwardly, resisting the urge to punch him, "Yeah... I've seen just a few too many unholy terrors the last two days to even think about anything like that... but um... is this the Mersetti Trainyard?"
He looks a little disappointed as he answers, "Yeah, this is it... why?"
"I'm hunting down a band of crazy killers."
He stops for a minute looking me over, and then laughs a bit. "Yeah, well, maybe it's best you turned me down. Radiation musta already gotten to your head. Well, good luck kid, you're gonna need it. I'm getting the hell outta here before those 'killers' of yours notice there's me."
With that he waves and walks away. Maybe he's right and I am crazy. Then again, I managed to blow apart quite a few super mutants, so maybe I'm not. Guess it doesn't really matter. Not like this hell hole of a world is any better than death.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot456.png
I turn back toward the train station imagining myself being torn apart by murderers. Strangely, the thought doesn't bother me as much as I feel it should.
"Whatever..."
I head in.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScrenShot457.png
Nice place. Great decor.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot458.png
I decide I'd best proceed as quietly as possible.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot459.png
Well, someone lives down here, judging by the fires...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot460.png
And the traps.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/extratrap1.png
A baby carriage?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/extratrap2.png
Oh. Well. Guess I'd best get the hell away from that.
I feel the heat of the explosion on my back and turn around to check the devastation.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/extratrap3.png
. . .And so my nightmares for the next month have been decided.
After all that, I decide I'd better keep my eyes peeled. Can't risk turning on the light, though. Lot of good avoiding traps is going to do me if I get killed in a hail of gunfire.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot461.png
An automatic pitching machine? Really? Clearly set up to shoot down the choke point created by the trains.
Amateur hour.
I grab a sharp rock and jam it into the bottom wheel, making sure it's wedged in good and tight. That oughta break it.
Good thing, too, as a second later I feel a pull on my ankle and hear its motor fry out behind me, as it tries to lob something at my back.
Need to be more careful.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot464.png
Well hello thar Mr. Tripwire. How are you this fine evening? Just wonderful you say? You certainly hope no one breaks you and causes some kind of awful trap to go off in their face? Well alright then Mr. Tripwire, I'll just step over you nice and carefully.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot468.png
Well shit, the traps are getting a bit more dangerous now, aren't they? Good thing I noticed that wire or I'd be meat.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot469.png
I can hear a radio... must be getting close.
Krylo

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot470.png
SHIT! He must've h... wait, he's not shooting?
I need to get in there... see if the kid's there... find out about the murder, but he's got that gun trained on my head, and I don't want to start shooting yet. I don't know how many there are... though I find it hard to believe the people who did... what I saw... I can't believe they're not murdering me.
"It's, well, I'm looking for something really important, please, you've gotta let me by!" Shit, that's never gonna work.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot471.png
What the shit? It worked?
He continues, "If I were you, I'd speak to Vance. He's our leader. Likes to hang out on the Mezzanine watching over the common area. He can probably help you find whatever it is you're looking for."
I nod simply. "Thanks a lot... hey, who's The Family, anyway?" I ask, trying to sound innocent.
"We are a badass gang and we don't take shit from nobody. Don't like too many questions either, get in there before I change my mind."
I just nod quickly holstering my gun and raising my hands. "Right... thanks again! I'll be going now."
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot473.png
As he goes to open the gate, though, I think that there was something odd the way he said 'badass gang'. I believe the part about not asking questions... but... something seems off, here.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot474.png
This place is nicer than Evan's place, really... and he wasn't kidding about the ordinance, Judging by the assault rifle on that box. They've definately got guns.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot475.png
Well, let's meet the leader. I take a deep breath and open the door.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot476.png
I walk down the 'hallway' as calmly as possible, trying not to look like I'm here to kill everyone or whatever.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot477.png
...They don't look like crazed killers. What the hell is going on here?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot478.png
A woman approaches me, got the same hair cut I do. Cute.
"If you got the money I got the time"
"...What?"
She smiles a bit... oddly. "Well, well. I'm surprised you don't know me. I'm Brianna... I... take care of the men around here. Well, unmarried ones anyway."
Well, they've got their official gang whore, anyway. I try not to look too disgusted, but I think she picks up on it.
I just thank god she doesn't say anything.
"So... taken care of any new guys lately? Maybe by the name of Ian?"
She thinks for a minute, "Oh yeah... Ian. He hasn't really joined our little family, so I haven't had time to... sink my teeth into him." Her smile is strange. Predatory, but not in a purely sexual way. It sends shivers down my spine, and she catches on again, letting out a laugh at my reaction. "Don't be such a stick in the mud, cutie... you gotta have fun out in the wasteland..."
"Um... yeah..." it wasn't the sex that bothered me, "But... about Ian?"
"Oh yeah, he your boyfriend or somethin'? You must be into some fun stuff to be datin' that kid." She gives me a once over, licking her lips one more time and sending another shiver down my spine, elliciting another lilting laugh from her. Thankfully, the sexuality leaves her voice when she finally answers my question, "Anyway, Vance has got him in lock down for the time being. We all had to do it. Let's us think on ourselves, you know... decide if we really wanna be part of this. No one's forced." She actually sounds somewhat... loving? But not in a sexual way. Like talking about a parent someone deeply respects. "You're going to have to talk to Vance if you want to see him."
"Thanks." I disengage myself from her as quickly as possible. I can feel her smile boring into my back. Jesus Christ, she was looking at me like she wanted to... EAT me.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot479.png
I hope Vance isn't as goddamn creepy.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot480.png
That must be the man.
"Welcome to Mersetti, Human."
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot481.png
I really don't like the way he said 'Human'. What... are these people?
"My people call me Vance. I lead this group of weary travelers and outcasts who need a home. And... to what do I owe the pleasure of your visit?"
"What... is this place?"
"What you see before you is the last bastion for the down trodden and..." I tune him out as he goes on and on about how wonderful this place is, beneath the sun-baked wastes blah blah... wait... what was that?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot482.png
...Holy shit. Guess this explains the traps on the way in... sure lead people to your doorstep but kill them before they get there. It's like ordering take out! But better because you don't have to actually order anything! Fuck.
My skin goes pale and it takes an act of will not to reach for my gun. They haven't gotten violent yet... but there's no doubt these are the people who killed Ian's family. Fuck, no wonder they were so mutilated. Fucking eaten alive, probably.
"Wh.. what?" I ask, stuttering slightly, hoping that I misheard. Misunderstood. Something.
"Humans call for our extermination or reform. Reforming implies something is wrong with us..."
Goddamn right there's something wrong with you. You fucking eat people. Fuck.
He's still talking, though. Still talking. Must not be hungry. Shit this explains the way that woman was looking at me, too. She DID want to eat me.
"I see my teachings as an improvement. A way to transcend our cannibalism."
"...Transcend?" I ask, my voice wavering a little bit.
"You are more accepting than most of your kind." Not really. I'm just scared shitless because you out number me and the only working weapon I've got is a goddamn pea shooter. "But, yes, transcend. You see, we no longer eat the flesh of humans. We merely drink their blood. What would that make us in your eyes."
Great. They just rip out people's throats and drink their blood! THAT'S A LOT BETTER, VANCE! WAY TO REASSURE ME YOU AREN'T PSYCHO KILLERS OR ANYTHING!
Fuck fuck fuck.
"I... don't know?"
"Then that is a mystery you will have to solve on your own. In ceremony..." He talks more. Lots more. I don't care. Something about each member having to recite some stupid laws. He wants me to go find out what they are or something. Fucking why? Is he goddamn toying with me?
I must look like a goddamn juicebox to these people and now he wants me to go find out about their laws? Fucking my head, that's all.
He walks away after his shpiel.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot483.png
And his wife walks in. She seems like an alright sort. Maybe...
"You know Ian?" I ask, testing the waters.
She smiles a bit, "Yeah. Vance has him in meditation. Sorry, but he's gotta stay locked up."
I put on my best sad face before speaking, trying to make it as believable as possible. "Hey... I uh... I was his girlfriend," I decide to go with the lie Brianna thought up, "We were pretty serious before he disappeared, and I'd like to at least see him, you know? Make sure he's ok... make sure WE'RE still ok..." I sound so good I almost convince myself.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot485.png
...And I convinced her too.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot487.png
Guess it's time to meet Ian... don't know how the hell to get out of here though.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot488.png
He's an alright looking kid. Wouldn't have minded if the girlfriend thing hadn't been a lie.
"Eh? What do you want?" he asks as I enter.
"Evan sent me to find you..." I don't say 'after I found your parents brutally killed by the people out there.
He smiles a little bit at that. "Guess I shouldn't be surprised. I'm sure he's pretty pissed right now."
I shake my head. "More worried than anything, really. You alright? They hurt you?"
"Hurt me? ...No... they haven't. They've been protecting me. They're even going to let me join their family if I want once I finish this meditation." He doesn't sound scared of them at all. Actually a little worshipful. Like they're his heroes or something.
"Ian they..." He looks up at me questioningly. "They killed your family Ian... I saw 'The Family' written in blood over their corpses."
Ian looks down shaking his head. "No... they didn't."
"But I..."
He looks back up cutting me off, "I killed them... I ... I've always had the urge. Back when my sister was around she helped me control it, but my parents? They... they never knew about it and I just couldn't help myself. I blacked out... attacked them... I don't know what happened... when I came to Vance had pulled me away from them, and then he and one of the other members drained their blood and wrote that there... don't you get it!? They protected me... protected me from killing my own parents... so that... so I could go back there if I wanted to."
Oh God... this kid... he's... all thoughts of him being cute leave my mind. This place... these people, they're all sick.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot489.png
I take a deep breath and walk to the door, mechanically almost. It swings closed, I hope it'll muffle the sounds.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot490.png
I say something flirtatious. It takes a few minutes but he smiles and starts walking toward the bed.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot423.png
I can only think of what I saw... his family. He's not human. He's a monster. Some kind of monster.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot491.png
I pull the pistol free and take aim.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot492.png
Ian is no more. The gun shot echoes through the room, though. I'm almost certain they heard it.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot494.png
I put down a few mines I liberated earlier in the hallway to Ian's room. Figure I can use it as a fall back point if they heard me.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot495.png
They did. Someone's coming. Looks like Holly, Vance's wife.
I reach into my shirt, pulling out one of my grenades. These fuckers deserve nothing less.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot496.png
Plant it right at her feet. Should have killed her, but a hail of gunfire from the debris tells me I'm not that lucky.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot497.png
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot499.png
I run back to Ian's room, ducking bullets and leaping over my own landmines, before letting the door close. The gun fire stops and there's silence for a few moments.
I hold my breath. The waiting is awful. I know it's probably been under a minute but it feels like days. I'm trapped in this small room. What if they disarmed the landmines? What if she got the others and they're about to bust in?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/famfight1.png
Then the blast throws the door open.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/famfight2.png
I feel almost bad about it, she seemed like the best person out of all of them. But, she was still a blood drinker and she tried to kill me.
Besides, I can't feel too bad when that's a submachine gun there. My chances of survival just sky rocketed.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/famfight3.png
I head back into the hallway, and I hear a sound to my right.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/famfight4.png
A grenade slides out of my jumpsuit with ease that feels almost unnatural, as I slide it into the door, while turning my face away for cover.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/famfight5.png
I can feel the heat and pressure, though I'm far enough back that it's not painful. A few shards of shrapnel hit the rocks around me, and I make a mental note not to throw them so close anymore.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/famfight6.png
I have to backpeddle out, though, drawing Holly's submachine gun, as Lance manages to pounce through the blast, his legs looking like ground beef. I open fire.

He was a tough son of a bitch, but now he's just more mess on the walls.
I help myself to his flaming sword, though I turn it off and slide the blade into a belt loop.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/famfight9.png
Nobody else seems to be coming right away. I slink forward, and find no one else has come up. Maybe they couldn't hear from way down there? Doubtful. . . might be they just figured Vance and Holly were enough.
Either way. . .
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot500.png
I decide to place a land mine at the top of each stair before looking down.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot501.png
They really seem oblivious.
Gives me time to line up a shot.

He barely even moves as the bullet smashes through his brain pan. If I couldn't see the gray matter across the table I'd think I had missed.
Regardless, bullets start to impact around me and I pull back before I can even see what's going on.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot503.png
I hear a blast a few moments before I see a couple injured family members coming around shooting.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot504.png
I return fire, but I feel the sting of bullets tearing through my abdomen as I stumble backward, barely holding it together.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot505.png
I grit my teeth and draw Vance's sword as I cower around the corner, figuring I can get the drop on them when they come around.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/famfight10.png
I see one and come out with a swing. The blade's sharper than it looks and I feel the flesh of his throat give easily, even as I notice another standing next to him ready to fire.
I continue moving my blade along the same line, and it gashes through his arm and into his ribs. I place a foot on his chest and kick him off down the ramp as I roll back into cover, my arm and stomach taking AR fire as he shoots wildly in his death throes.
I smash against the wall and fumble for a stimpak. Blood is running in rivulets down my arm as I inject it into myself. The painkillers calm my nerves, and I pull out my hunting rifle.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot506.png
My arms are still shaking. They've got no strength left in them.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot507.png
Explains why I only clipped her head instead of killing her flat out, when I roll out to take a shot.
I quickly roll back in to cover however, and drop the rifle, pulling out the SMG again.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot508.png
The second she steps past the wall I pull the trigger.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot509.png
Not much left of her.
I take a moment to survey my work. Everyone dead, and riddled with bullets.
Well... except the guard... he might not have heard all that, though. Might be able to get the drop on him.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot511.png
I head back out, weapon drawn and ready to go.
Though I fully grasp the importance of stealth, right now. He has to die quickly if I'm going to live.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot512.png
He saw me again... opened fire... I opened back. A bullet slices through my cheek. Another rips through my naked stomach... but my aim was more true. I'm holding in my guts as I inject another stimpack.
I head back into the station. There's plenty of first aid here... enough to keep me alive, at least. Even find some, non-human meat, food. Some guns. All kinds of stuff. More stimpaks. As I bandage myself, allowing my wounds to heal I realize that King's not going to be happy with Ian's death.
Whatever. For now... I'm living here.
Lonely weeks pass. I would love to see someone else, but at least it's safe here. More time passes before I start to run out of food, and I realize I'm going to have to leave.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot513.png
My wounds have healed... but I don't know where else to go. I just know I'll have to go somewhere, for food, at least. And... some company.

Back to Arefu. You've at least got to try to explain to King about Ian.
But before you go, make sure you grab the assault rifles, swords, ammo, and all of the other stuff.

So by killing Ian, we're hostile with Arefu now too?
Bummer. I as hoping there'd be a way we could stay buddies with the Arefu folks. Strange to think Arefu would shoot you on sight without even knowing what happened to Ian or the Family. (Why not just tell them Ian was an evil son of a bitch? They'd probably believe you.)
Anyway, I still think it's in character for Lucy to return to Arefu first, given it's one place she knows and given that she shouldn't know that Arefu would respond violently to her. I think it'd be a nice wakeup call...have Lucy expect to return to Arefu some sort of heroine for having stopped the cannibals, only to get shot at.
Long-term? Assuming Arefu doesn't take a whole update, that is. There's a fire ant quest involving a young'un in the outskirts of DC that should be easy to take on and actually complete at your current level. I forget the name of the quest, but it's not that difficult and results in you getting a chance to "buff" your character with a permanent boost to a single SPECIAL statistic. I think it's the next place to go. Having done something terribly "evil" just now, Lucy could benefit from a more...positive experience.
EDIT: Actually, I think it's impossible for Ian not no turn hostile the moment you start shooting at The Family unless you have his sister's letter. So we damned ourselves to hostility with Arefu by deciding not to go to Megaton first. At any rate, my first playthrough, I was able to kill all the Family members, set Ian free, and then convince Ian that the Family were evil and that he should return home to Arefu. It required that letter, though. In that case, Arefu remains friendly.

On the bright side, now you have an arsenal of weaponry, which is one of the nicer things about being evil and killing the Family.
I forget the name of the quest, but it's not that difficult and results in you getting a chance to "buff" your character with a permanent boost to a single SPECIAL statistic. The quest is called "Those!" Exclamation is part of the name. I'm actually kind of surprised you didn't remember it with how hilariously silly the name is.
Lucy's lean towards the dark side starts to make sense with this encounter. Though, Krylo, when the Wastelander said 'have some fun' I didn't quite catch what he was referring to until I read it a second time.
I honestly want to see what she's going to say/do in the Megaton quest, so I say go there. Even if you end up killing everyone in Megaton and Tenpenny Tower you can use Miserti Station and The Family's headquarters as a base of ops.

Don't forget to grab Vance's coat and shiskebab! Oh.. and all the weapons and ammo their little store had. :D
Paradise Falls sounds like a good place to go from here. Although... something tells me when Lucy finds the slavers that she'll be inclined to murder the lot of them for their horrid practices.
And something tells me she won't take a liking to the Ghouls... She seems more likely to side with Tenpenny and kill the lot of them.

I am perfectly fine with her slaughtering the slavers, I'm guessing right after she finds out about the kids. Of course paradise falls has people with gattling guns. Krylo could probably handle it, but Lucy might think twice.
Also I think she is avoiding stripping the dead for clothing

Lucy needs to get 'lost' wandering the wastes and end up at the Dunwich Building. Yes, it's the extreme south-west corner of the map, but it's not entirely unreasonable that a poor lost Vault-Dweller would somehow end up on its dark doorstep.
If played right, it would be a great first experience for Lucy involving Ghouls, albeit Cthulhu-worshipping ones...but that should taint her future encounters with any others, and if you want a reason for Lucy to go evil, there's the thing in the basement (http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Image:Fallout3_DunwichObelisk.jpg), Elder God mind-fuck.

I grab what I need from my room, leaving everything else behind. Judging by the quiet, it should all be safe enough here. And then I'm off.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot517.png
Glad to see the wasteland hasn't changed while I was away. Still dead as far as the eye can see.
Guess I may as well head back to Arefu. They didn't seem to have much in the way of supplies, but Evan at least deserves to know the truth about Ian... and that he doesn't have to be worried about the family anymore.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot521.png
Well they seem to have noticed the attacks have stopped--none of them are locked in their houses anymore. Maybe I can get some food and water out of them for free? After all I did save the town.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot520.png
I walk up to Evan and he looks up at me.
"Never thought I'd be seein' you again, after you disappeared, what, a month ago, now! But... if you don't mind me askin', where abouts Ian? He never came back either..." The old man's voice is quiet, like he's almost afraid to hear the answer. I... don't particularly want to tell him either.
"Evan..." I start, looking off to the side a bit, not wanting to look him in the eyes when I say it. A sigh escapes my lips before I can force the words out. "Ian's dead." I shift my gaze back to the old man. "I... killed him. He was one of them... he's the one who mutilated his parents, he told me so himself."
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot522.png
The old man's demeanor changed quickly, and he pulls assault rifle from his back."You're lyin'! I don't believe a damn word o' it, except maybe that ya killed the boy! He woul.."
"He did! He told me so hims..."
Gun fire. One round being fired, I can feel the cut on my cheek where the old man's bullet passed by, the other residents are looking over too, some of them with hands on their side arms. "Listen, Missy, the only reason you ain't dead right now is you took out that gang for us, and I'm gonna go ahead and believe maybe you didn't kill the boy, but if I ever see you around here again, I'll put a bullet between your eyes."
I just nod dumbly and start off.
I knew he wouldn't be happy... but... this? I saved their lives and THIS is how they act? ...The people in this place... I just wish I was home again.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot523.png
I wander back into the wasteland. I'm not quite sure where to go now, so I just set off in a random direction.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot524.png
It isn't long before I find signs of life. An old house being patrolled by people with guns. I doubt they're friendly so I go in low and quiet.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot525.png
One on the bridge too.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot527.png
I decide to siddle along the far side of the bridge. Might not see me there.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot528.png
Damn, more of them here. Busy with a pack of feral dogs.
. . . I'm not feeling lenient.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot529.png
My burst tears through two of the dogs, and one of those psychos. All three drop instantly.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot530.png
I don't give the other time to react to the gunfire before filling him with lead a a dog leaps at his face.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot531.png
However, the remaining dogs decide I'm next on the menu. Gratitude seems to be a rare commodity in the wastelands.
But that doesn't matter, as I have plenty of lead for all of them.
As the last dog falls, however, I hear a sound to my right. Much too close for comfort, I spin and. . .
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ExtraRaider1.png
Christ! My finger pulls back on the trigger as instinct now, as the barrel is directed toward his head, and his face is torn apart before he even knows what's happening.

He was the last one. Finally.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot533.png
There's no supplies at all in their building. Not even a bed worth sleeping in. Nothing really worth taking other than the flame thrower that one tried to use on me, and an old hunting rifle. Grab some ammo off a couple of them as well.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot534.png
I sigh and head off as the sun begins to set, and turning into a rocky valley I see a man come running down toward me.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/Mel1.png
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/Mel2.png
I crane my neck a little and look at his gun, noting the nervousness in his voice, and the way he's shaking. Besides, most of these people just shoot first and ask questions later.
". . .You're missing your clip." I let that float for a second before adding, "And I'm not."
"I'm. . . just gonna go."
"Yeah, probably a good idea," I respond as he nervously lowers his gun and walks away. For a moment I ponder putting a 5.56, or twenty, inbetween his shoulderblades, but I quickly dispel the idea.
I'm not like those crazy bastards I've been shooting. I'm better than that.
I'm not sure why I even thought about doing something like th

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot538.png
A vault?
I decide to see if the entrance console works.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot540.png
It takes a minute, but it opens.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot542.png
This... it doesn't seem right. If they all left why was the door still closed and if not... why this? I suddenly feel really happy I took that flame thrower, as I head deeper inside.
A few doors later, a man in a vault uniform comes around the corner. I try to speak to him, he just tries to attack me with a knife. I've got no idea what's going on, but I pull the trigger on my flame thrower.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot544.png
I hold it on him until it stops working, but the crazed vault dweller just keeps attacking, even as his body is in flames, I run backwards, until my back is against the wall, more and more fire spewing toward him until he finally falls, burning, to the ground.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot545.png
I'm panting now, the man's crazed attack taking more out of me than I thought possible. I decide to sit against a wall and catch my breath. I drop the flame thrower. It just feels. . . too heavy all of a sudden. Much too heavy.
Still, I know this vault should have some kind of food, ammo, other supplies I can take, but I also need to know what's going on down here. What happened?
Even so, when I move forward again, it's with more caution. Whatever it was turned the vault dwellers into madmen.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot546.png
Everything goes blue for a minute. What the hell is going on? Is it affecting me too? Will I end up like them.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot547.png
I should leave... I should... keep going. Deeper. There are good things down here...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot548.png
Everything's blue again... it's a soothing color... and... Dad?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot549.png
DAD!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot550.png
As I reach out to him he vanishes, everything vanishes, the blue fades and I'm left in a dirty room by myself. Just. . . a dirty room.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot552.png
I run into a few more of the survivors, but, even though they run through pain as though it's nothing as well, this time I was expecting it, and they die pretty easily. I'm going to run out of ammo at this rate, though.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot553.png
Holstering the pistol I decide to use a baseball bat to conserve ammo.
. . .Wait where'd I get th--mmm, it'll be more fun, who cares?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShotBatCrazy1.png
Soooo much more fu--urgh what am I. . . I'm just. . . did I?
Ugh, gotta keep moving.
I start to feel more myself, but as I enter the living quarters I see more of them. They haven't seen me yet, though. I quietly draw my pistol without putting the bat down, and eliminate them before they have a chance to attack.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot555.png
But the bat would have been so much more fun. Why don't I use that?
I think I'll use that.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot556.png
It looks like someone set up a barricade here. The insanity must not have set in on everyone at the same time...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot557.png
The door behind is locked, however, and I can't get it open. Guess I'll have to find another way around.
As I travel through the winding corridors my curiousity only grows. What could have driven these people to such depths of madness that they'd let the vault fall so far.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot558.png
I see another one. This one has a sledgehammer and he charges in.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot559.png
His head makes a hollow thumping noise as I smash the bat against it. It's a pleasing sound.
Thwump.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot560.png
Thwuuuump.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot561.png
Everything goes blue again... and the vault looks new. The power is working, everything is where it should be.
I check one of the computer consoles.

It's back to being destroyed.
I move on down the hallway and two more of them run up the steps.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot573.png
They're close, but why should that stop me from having fun?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShotBatCrazy2.png
Boooom. I can feel blood and bits splatter on my face and exposed torso. It feels good. So good, but one is still alive. One is still fun.

He didn't stay fun for lon--fuugh fun? That. . . I almost blew myself up. I shake my head, trying to clear it out but. . . it's still so foggy. I should. I should check this place out, see what's going on.
I need to know.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot574.png
They died in bed. There's a gas leak above them, though it doesn't smell like anything dangerous. Just smells nice.
Smells blue.
Blue blue bluuue. . .
Urgh, no. Got tO keEp MovING. . .
I hold my head as I search around, forcing my thoughts back into a proper pattern. I'm going crazy, but I know that, and that means I'm not crazy yet. Just need to figure out what's happening so I can stop it. Fix it. Just have to stay here to find out what's happening. . .
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot575.png
Soon, I find a note on a dresser in one of the other rooms. It talks about a love mist, and the sky being blue. Something about a... cat in his head, and being unable to remember things.
What the hell. . ?
Were they drugged... is that... I should leave. I should get out of here befo... before I feel as happy as they did... Ugh.
I shake my head, trying to free my thoughts from the mist and stumble out of the dorms.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShot576.png
I run. I try to leave. I don't know where I'm going. There's blue... and mist... and the corridors seem to warp around me laughing.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/krylo/fallout3lp/ScreenShotBatCrazy4.png
I see more of them. More people. I don't even think anymore, I just attack. I slashthem apart... and it feels good. It feels... happy. The blood splattering on my leather armor, almost as good as it splattering on my ski--
Wait? Leather armor? That's not what I was wearing was it?

This vault was sealed and flooded with psychoactive chemicals ten years after it was sealed. On the day that the doors were to open. It was an experiment to test man's reaction to constant exposure to psychoactive drugs.
But all the vaults were sealed in 2077, and it's now two hundred years later... then how... the survivors?
Were they real?
Is this all... I need to get out. I need to get out.

I stumble through the hallways, barely keeping on my feet. Every ounce of my concentration is on holding my sanity.

I finally escape... the vault door closing behind me as I flee.

I get outside, I can see the sky... but I feel wobbly, weak... I can't...

Sorry that one took so long. Took me awhile to decide where to go as you guys had no unity in your voting.
Also: Writer's block hit once or twice.
Anyway, we can pretty much end up anywhere now. So up to you guys. Try to get more than two votes for any one place, though.

I still want to go to Megaton.
Also; kill yourself in console outside of the Vault?
