Mr.Bookworm

I admit that bacon is pretty much the instant winner.

However, what would a fully loaded baked potato, a foodstuff combining several already delicious ingredients into one food nirvana have gotten?

Professor Smarmiarty
07-25-2009, 04:23 AM
Bacon is pretty good but it takes too long to cook properly! You got to find like a frying pan, and oil, and you have to flavour it and you have to put a shirt on or splash yourself with oil and you have to fend off your flatmates who smell it.
Ridiculous!

A fully loaded baked potato would have trumped bacon.

Nobody really got into the hard-hitters aside from potatoes and bacon. Goldfish might have outdone bacon on a certain day. The real heavyweights would have been spaghetti, steak, Subway's "Spicy Italian" sub with banana peppers, tomatoes, green peppers, and olilves, garlic bread (even better with cheese), and a ton of flavors of Hamburger Helper.

Kraft Dinner got it's deserved place.

Results time;

I'm not even going to bother rating;
Krylo - Cyber Lover 52 - That's... just wrong. I mean, I may be a desperate nerd, but I'm not that desperate!
Fifthfiend - The sequel to Chrono Trigger - I'm assuming this is some theoretical joke based game, and because of that, it goes here. Also I've never played Chrono.
Archbio - Final Fantasy XX - Until there's actual info to be anticipating this game, I can't really say I'm looking forward to it. However it goes higher than these other 2, because I probably will anticipate it more than these others when that time comes.
bluestarultor - Devil May Cry 5 - Same reason as above, but I'd more want to play DMC than FF. I did say upcoming games guys, not "might be upcoming in years to come".

Actual properly ratable answers;
9)Death by Stabbing - Mass Effect 2 - Never played the first game, not awaiting a sequel.
8)Smarty McBarrelpants - Scribblenauts - Seems interesting, but it's for a system I don't own nor intend to own.
7)Kerensky287 - Dissidia - If I still used my psp at all then this might've been higher. But I don't, so it's not.
6)Overcast - Deus Ex 3 - If the 2nd game wasn't so utterly terrible I might be wanting this more, but the fact that one was makes me wary of the 3rd. Also a lack of actual info on the game itself doesn't help. However I can still have a slight hope!
5)Ape Boy - Arkham Asylum - Now we're getting somewhere! Yes, I am actualy looking forward to this one. Looks ace.
4)The Wandering God - Bioshock 2 - But this looks, er... ace-er! Playing as a superpowered Big Daddie and wrecking shit up?! Hell yeah!
3)Mr. Bookworm - God of War III - I think it's a pretty well known fact I love GoW and I've been waiting for this for a while. Can't wait to rip the shit out of the entire Greek pantheon as the angriest man in gaming.
2)krogothwolf - Final Fantasy XIII - But this I've been waiting for even longer, and every time I see more on it the more awesome it looks. This is gona be so fucking epic.
1)Seil - Half Life 2: Episode 3 - But after that ending in the last episode, I simply have to play this. It's like an addiction with me, I need to know how it all ends damnit!!!

Seil wins. There was no really clear cut insta-winner this time, but the top 5 were all pretty good answers. The new AVP and the Last Guardian would have also done pretty good.

Heh I do relate on the feeling the second game gave me, and I must say my expectations tell me things will be dumbed down for a general audience rather than intuitive and complex like the first game. I also have always been a bit awkward with prequels. Origin stories are fun, but prequels are just a storyline on the way to what we already know. So they have a lot of ground to cover to get my full respect(not that they actually care).

We shall see.

Damn, you posted before I could get off Assassins Creed 2 >.< Oh well, that will teach me to sleep in.

I'll be honest; I hated the first AC. Like genuinely hated it, it's one of the few games where I said "you know what? FUCK THIS!!" and never finished. Which was a shame because it started off brilliantly, before it turned into a steaming pile of vile. For a more detailed review of my thoughts, see Zero Punctuation.

So the sequel has a lot of work to do to make me want to play it. You'd have probably placed last with that game. Yes, even below the games that I've never even given a first thought to playing.

I was very pleased with the first Assassins Creed. Didn't 100% the game like I normally set out to do, but still enjoyed it and finished it.

I really did want for it to take place in the present/future that was presented. Altair was great and all and I am sure Enzio will be fine, but I want to see what the skills Desmond gained by being his ancestor have inspired in him.

In the end the storyline probably will not be progressed much further, we just get to watch someone with a pension for assassination jumping on buildings again, killing people. Perhaps with a bit less uniformity, but still the same idea, in a new place with a new mission. What new things could possibly be learned through this in the future I have no clue, and the possibility this could be filler is an actual worry.

Course I am just a negative guy. Also, I figure you got a face for every feeling Krylo.

Enough shtick though, lets see the next topic.

Krylo
07-26-2009, 09:29 PM
Well the next one is going to be them trying to get clues as to the whereabouts of another orb thingie I can't remember the name of from Desmond's mind. Last game he got eagle vision, this game he'll probably attain something else.

This will probably end in the culmination of a few plot points leaving Desmond with no choice but to escape and take care of shit himself.

I think it was slotted to be a trilogy, so it makes sense to have another 'historic' game. Especially one to introduce guns to Desmond.

I can only hope that the feeling of the sequel is episodic like Half Life, such that it could stand on its own as a good game rather than giving me the feeling of Halo 2 where I just felt like I was walking a bridge to the next game.

Though I do agree that will probably be where it ends up. It seems like most of the assassins are dead or severely weakened anyway after the events of the first game as seen in the present of the game. Eventually we all know he will have to go from bartender to badass.

14)Mr. Bookworm - Superman - Overpowered superbeing who they had to invent more powerful villians just so he could beat them. Plus they also had to nerf him cause he got god awful powerful. His arcs also were generaly boring to read

13)Si Civa - Captain Obvious - Obviously he was obvious enough to be the obvious choice infront of superman due to his obvious powers, but is obvisouly nowhere near any other of the heros on this list, obviously

12)Wandering God - Atomic Robo - He's cool and all, but I was just able to get the first volume so I haven't gotten to know him very well yet

11)Blue - The Beast - The Blue Furball who is also a genius scientist, his powers were to common though and he only stood out cause he was blue furred

10)Archbo - Catwoman(Selina Kyle with googles) - Hot little villian and hero depending on her mood, was a good female opposite to batman I always though.

9)SMB - Batman - The Dark Knight, Greatest Detective and 0 powers to boot and it never stopped him from confronting those who posses powers that rival supermans

8)Kerensky - Green Lantern, any of them - difficult to rate this as there are way to many laterns that have stories now to count. And each one would rate differently, My fav lantern is Hal Jordan then Kyle Rynar then Kil0wog ya poozer, their recent stories are also pretty sweet.

7)Hawk - Gambit - Pretty cool theif/hero. His power's are pretty nice to and I always liked the using charged cards to blow things up

6)Moogle - Iron Man(Tony Stark) - Genius Scientist/Inventor, maker of the greatest power armour ever. And he was a womanizing alcholic to boot,

5)Fifthfiend - Darkhawk - Frist comic i bought of my own money, DarkHawk #1 a hero that had a bone to pick with villians and was more then willing to seriously fuck them up and his armour keeps getting sweeter and sweeter.

4)Ape Boy - Spider-Man - Geeky nerd turned Super-hero and keeps on the straight and narrow despide J.Jonah Jameson trying to slag him every chance he gets. Plus he's fought beings far out of his power range and won by sheer deterimation and having balls the size of texas

3)Overcast - Hulk(Green Scar version/WWH) - Jesus fuck is this version not ridiculous. Controlled Rage, In touch with his banner side and fairly intelligent. His fight versus the X-man was great, showing just how powerful he was by taking down them all.

2)Masked Jedi - DeadPool - Trashtalking, smartass merc with a healing factor, and breaks the forth wall, I missed those yellow speach bubbles too.

1)RA - Steve Rodgers as Cptn. America - The Cap, the most respect hero in all the Marvel Universe. He always fought for his ideals and never backed down from even the most powerful cosmic opponents. His shield is pretty cool

I have a few nice ones in mind, but I really don't think most people in the general forum age group are as familiar with Greek and Roman mythology as I am.

I'm going to have to go with Orthrus, the lesser-known relative of Cerberus, who had only two heads and was an unfortunate casualty of Heracles' tenth labor for getting in the way of him making off with Geryon's cattle. Some stories say he also sired the chimera and sphinx before that.

I was going to argue that Scientology has no basis in any form of mythology, unless we've expanded the term to include bad science fiction novels, but then I remembered that Scientology is only recognized as a religion in the US, which also considers them a non-profit organization, which we all know is bull given the fact you need to pay assloads to advance, so I'm simply going to have to agree. :p

General consensus would hold Jesus as a non-mythical figure though there are some who argue otherwise.

General consensus doesn't hold Jesus as a figure that will come back at some point in the future with a sword sticking out of his mouth, does it? Historical and mythological aren't that freaking mutually exclusive, so without the toolish bit of trolling at the end the original pick of "Jesus" would have been valid and amusing.

A bit of trolling you decided to fall for for the sake of doing whatever that's called:

Instant winner was Neverending Story because as a kid someone told me the crane that they used to pull the horse out of the swamp broke and the horse really died. Apparentely not true but man was it sad.
Original transformers wrecked me up as well.
Also a lack of computers dying. Computers dying is much more sad than animals dying.

Haven't seen-
Overcast- Up- I wouldn't be fitting into my pretentious wanker obsessed with German expressionist films if I watched new films now would I?

Seil- Snoopy Come home- This is the kind of movie that could have won if I had seen it

Somebody- Sid and Nancy

Seen
Apeboy- Where the Red Fern grows- Oh yes I do hate dogs. They smell and are violent. Like a hobo but less able to get you drugs.

Fifth- Old Yella- Old Yella is like one of those rinky-dink fancy super hobos who think they like some kind of down on their luck prol, merely out of work for sympathy with the plight of thier fellow man, whereas inside seething away is the blood of a hobo one. Know your place hobo.

vTWG- Schindler's List- Oh wah wah, the Holocaust. How about a move about all the Africans who died funding the Allied war effort. Or the Russians. Or the Arabs. Too overplayed to have any effect.

Mr Bookworm- Bambi- I know that people always list it as sad but it not really that bad. Go watch it again. Bambi runs, gun shot, bambi's father is all like "Oh she's dead", Bambi sheds a tear- off to play in the bushes.

Krogothwolf- Shawshank Redemption, They all looked like hardened criminals to me. No sympathy, except for Morgan Freeman. The only crime that man could commit would be stealing your heart.

Krogothwolf part deux- To Kill a Mockingbird- Black man kills some girl, gets put in jail, town celebrates merely. I think that is how it went.

Archbio- Would be sadder if it wasn't so fucking sad. Also your original pick (war of the worlds) would have been either dead last or dead first dependning on whether I was pro or anti-martian at the time.

Moogle- King Kong- Yeah this was kind of sad. Poor Monkey

according to the numbers

All I have to say is that any pirate sitting around with his log book and pen and thinking "Ho, this daring caper will send the willikens up old Blackbeard. Add the 6, by gum! I have him two to one" is no pirate. While Roberts was capturing his ships and writing them up dutily in his logbook for historians to find Blackbeard was out getting wasted and beating whores. I think we know who the real pirate there is.

Bah Blackbeard was to piracy what the gangster rapper is to being a real thug. He plays up who he is severely and thus appears truly threatening(and in some way he may be) but if you ask anyone worth a damn in the hood they will tell you who you should really fear.

Black Bart was a killer, he was a methodical man turned sociopath by his lifestyle. He burned ships for cowardice, and took ships as a good pirate ought to. It is more than an image, it is a way of life.

Professor Smarmiarty
08-11-2009, 04:55 PM
If there was ever a career defined by being an image, it's being a fucking pirate.

From Wikipedia a list of rules on one of his boats:
1. Every man shall have an equal vote in affairs of moment. He shall have an equal title to the fresh provisions or strong liquors at any time seized, and shall use them at pleasure unless a scarcity may make it necessary for the common good that a retrenchment may be voted.
2. Every man shall be called fairly in turn by the list on board of prizes, because over and above their proper share, they are allowed a shift of clothes. But if they defraud the company to the value of even one dollar in plate, jewels or money, they shall be marooned. If any man rob another he shall have his nose and ears slit, and be put ashore where he shall be sure to encounter hardships.
3. None shall game for money either with dice or cards.
4. The lights and candles should be put out at eight at night, and if any of the crew desire to drink after that hour they shall sit upon the open deck without lights.
5. Each man shall keep his piece, cutlass and pistols at all times clean and ready for action.
6. No boy or woman to be allowed amongst them. If any man shall be found seducing any of the latter sex and carrying her to sea in disguise he shall suffer death.
7. He that shall desert the ship or his quarters in time of battle shall be punished by death or marooning.
8. None shall strike another on board the ship, but every man's quarrel shall be ended on shore by sword or pistol in this manner. At the word of command from the quartermaster, each man being previously placed back to back, shall turn and fire immediately. If any man do not, the quartermaster shall knock the piece out of his hand. If both miss their aim they shall take to their cutlasses, and he that draweth first blood shall be declared the victor.
9. No man shall talk of breaking up their way of living till each has a share of 1,000. Every man who shall become a cripple or lose a limb in the service shall have 800 pieces of eight from the common stock and for lesser hurts proportionately.
10. The captain and the quartermaster shall each receive two shares of a prize, the master gunner and boatswain, one and one half shares, all other officers one and one quarter, and private gentlemen of fortune one share each
11. The musicians shall have rest on the Sabbath Day only by right. On all other days by favor only.
12. If a member of the crew were to rape a woman he would be put to death or be marooned

I've bolded the particularly egregious ones. What a pussy! People are only scared of him because the wave of boredom that follows him.

If they were rappers he would be the super corporate, completely fake, market friendly rapper, designed to tick all the boxes. Blackbeard may be a fake but at least he got to have a rocking fun time as a fake which is what being a pirate is all about. Otherwise you just a venture capitalists and seriously fuck that.

Overcast
08-11-2009, 05:26 PM
Being a pirate was a constant work of survival on the part of a few sailors unfit to be part of a navy any longer. Some men just couldn't live in the real world and so they took their life at sea struggling to live above going back and becoming a carpenter.

A code was one means of survival. With his code he gave incentive and authority, and that was necessary to assure your crew doesn't become a squabbling mutinous mess with syphilis.

Blackbeard would be the common rapper of today. Glorifying his lifestyle and hyping himself into oblivion. What he has to show for it is mythology, but barely anything to back it up.

Bart is a gangster of the highest quality, telling his men to obey him and they listening, and taking what he wanted with great success. He needs no legend to say he was the best. He is the best.

Then again that ain't up to me to decide. We both got our points and we could yell all day at each other them but we won't change our minds. We just have to see who is higher on the list for Bookworm.

Lando in Empire Strikes Back: "Why you slimy, double-crossing, no-good swindler. You've got a lot of guts coming here, after what you pulled. (laughs) How you doin', you old pirate!? It's so good to see you!"

Also if you go to http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Han_Solo the word pirate comes up about a 1000 times.

The Artist Formerly Known as Hawk
08-12-2009, 04:59 PM
It does, but mostly not in the context of calling Solo himself a pirate. At most it talks about him being raised by pirates, then escaping to become a smuggler.

And yes the 2 are different;

When the Empire sent a fleet to raze the Smuggler's Moon, Han and his friends rallied a force of smugglers and pirates to victory in the Battle of Nar Shaddaa.

Note the and. In fact it reffers to Han as a smuggler way more than as a pirate. But whatever, if it works for you guys.

Check the light on your XBox's power source. Turn on your 360, and check to see what color that light turns. If it turns green, turn off the XBox, count to 10, and turn it back on. If it's in the early stages of Red Ring, you may get some more playing time out of it.

I loved this question, I would eat the Hell out of everything posted for it, but alas, one stands above the rest...

TWG (Steak/Garlic Mash/Brownie): I love me some goddamn steak. Love brownies, but I love steak even more, and my favorite cut is ribeye, which you depicted, if I'm not mistaken. I prefer baked potatoes with butter and sour cream, but garlic mashed potatoes aren't negatives, that's for sure.

Here's the rest, in order of postings:

OctRave (Buffalo Wings/Mountain Dew): Buffalo wins rock, but it's only something I ever want to eat when watching football or the fights. Mountain Dew, take it or leave it. Dr. Pepper would've gotten you points, though.
Seil (Teriyaki Stir Fry): Sesame Chicken or Sweet & Sour Pork, with fried rice, eggroll, and spare ribs might've taken it, if you had a stunning pic to go with them.
Hawk (The Meat Ship): I said "best" dinner, not "last". I'm big enough already, I cram that much nitrate down my gullet, I'd either be dead or wish I were.
R|A (Burger/Beer): Love me a damn burger, but yours actually looked sullen and depressed. Not a beer guy, either. Jack Daniels would've gotten you points.
Bookie (Burger/Fries/Coke): Very nearly won the whole thing. Like I said, I LOVE burgers, and yours looked aces. Seriously incredible. I'm also a Coke-A-Cola guy through and through. It was so close to winning, if TWG hand't put up pics, you would've won.
Si Civa (Pizza/Red Wine/Fruit Parfait): Pizza is fantastic, but you had to botch it with red wine and parfait. That's too close to being healthy.

Other contenders would've been pork chops, chicken & rice casserole, smoked sausage w/black beans and Spanish rice, chicken parmesan, braised short ribs, and English shepherd's/cottage pie. Any of these done up right may have taken it.

So, winner winner, steak & potato dinner! Take it away, Wanderer!

But then again, red wine. I can totally understand what went wrong with that. I've only tasted it and uh, disgusting drink.

Also, Frasier, which can be good answer or bad answer, but I suggested it still.

Eh, I saw blueberries, raspberries, and different layers of cream and topping, so I went with parfait. Would've been a strong submission if you had put mint chocolate chip and something other than red wine.

Never watched it, but I did enjoy that clip.

Shows I've actually seen:
The Original Power Rangers.

If you had asked me back when I actually watched, it might have done well. It was probably an early influence into my love of martial arts and general craziness.

And the winner is:
M*A*S*H
Before I ever watched any of it, I knew the finale was one of the most watched things on television ever. When I finally had a chance to watch the series, I can see why. Blending humor and drama in a very intelligent manner that truly exposed the horrors of war. And why even in the bleakest situations, laughter can keep you sane.

Favorite quote:
Hawkeye: War isn't Hell. War is war, and Hell is Hell. And of the two, war is a lot worse.
Father Mulcahy: How do you figure, Hawkeye?
Hawkeye: Easy, Father. Tell me, who goes to Hell?
Father Mulcahy: Sinners, I believe.
Hawkeye: Exactly. There are no innocent bystanders in Hell. War is chock full of them - little kids, cripples, old ladies. In fact, except for some of the brass, almost everybody involved is an innocent bystander.

The only thing that could have topped it would have to be Mystery Science Theater 3000. Other strong contenders would have been:
The Muppet Show, Buffy: The Vampire Slayer, Scrubs, I,Claudius, Monty Python's Flying Circus, or Star Trek: The Next Generation

Moogle0119 the game is yours, kupo!

My first answer, Dexter, is a nice little Showtime series about a vigilante serial killer who also works as a blood splatter analyst in Miami. A fairly fun series that introduced me to Michal C. Hall which over time caused me to realize he somehow has very little luck in getting good movie positions, but great luck in getting TV positions...still planning to see Gamer just for him though.

Doctor Who is a long running science fiction series from the BBC. It began in 1963 and went on to 1989 and then went under for a while before coming back in 2005 and is now ongoing again. It is about a time traveler named the Doctor and his strange adventures through time and space. It has 30 series thus far 753 episodes and holds the Guinness world records for longest-running science fiction television show in the world, and the most successful science fiction series of all time.

When I thought about it I figured Doctor Who would be a better choice.

7. The President of The United States of America (circa 1998) - Funka Genocide - ????
6. Ur-Priest - Mr. Bookworm - I can't even remember what all this prestige class entails. Something about giving up already gained abilities for it's own spell progression if I recall correctly. While it may be true you can reach higher leveled spells faster through this PrC I didn't find the flavor interesting either.
5. Master of the Unseen Hand - Token - Pretty crappy abilities although the flavor is somewhat nice, still entirely lacking.
4. Drunken Master - Masked Jedi - Most of the abilities this PrC grants is kinda crappy but the options that open up for drinking a lot is pretty neat along with the corkscrew attack and such. Overall it's a very cool PrC, even if it is a bit on the weak side.
3. Master of Many Forms - Archbio - Very cool PrC and some of it's abilities are strong. A very awesome infiltrator type character, being able to swap between forms and looking like different humans, orcs, etc... Some of their end forms are incredibly strong (Giant forms and Dragons).
2. Alienist - Overcast - I always wanted to play an Alienist wizard type character at some point but my time playing D&D came to an end and I never got the chance. The PrC is full of cool ideas and flavor and some very interesting abilities as well.
1. Arc(h)-mage - Rejected Again - Assuming you were talking about Arch Mage from the DMG this one is neat. Master of the arcane arts with some very powerful abilities to choose from. I once played a character with Mastery Shaping and Elements, very powerful stuff which helped get around resistances/immunities and not hitting allies on the fly.

Others that would have won would have been Frenzied Berserker, Dervish, Initiate of the Sevenfold Veil, Thief Acrobat, or maybe even Elemental Savant. It's all yours Rejected Again!
