Well, after a night of drunken revelry I find myself at my computer again. Consider this thread a place to express your take on specific alcohols, drinks, beers, etc. Just remember to drink responsibly.

Personally, I can't stand that isopropyl shit. I mean, what the hell? "Oh I'll just toss another carbon over here" what the fuck is that?

And this is how you tell I'm a chemist :p

But actually, ethanol is a useful substance. It can treat methanol poisoning! It can disinfect wounds (Not as well as isopropyl, but still...)! And finally, it produces a delightful euphoria before progressing to it's depressant stages.

Tonight my drink of choice was Pilsner Black Label, aka the house beer. However, I personally buy Grasshopper or Big Rock Traditional Ale when I have the chance. I'm not averse to a Guinness now and again, and when I hit a restaurant without the Grasshopper I default to Alexander Keiths. When it's not a beer occasion, you can't go wrong with the rum and coke, or occasionally a screwdriver can do.

When it comes to screwing friends over, though, there are a few which cannot be beat. The Prairie Fire (Tequila + Tabasco) is a classic, as is the Blow Job. My preference is the 6-49. The ultimate "fuck you" drink, though, is the Love Shack. Some bartenders refuse to make it. Some bartenders can't make it. Even the best can only make one or two a night. And it's best not to tell your victim what they drank until the next morning.

Hear ye, hear ye! Let there be tales of your drunken revelry, your favourite drinks, your heated debates over ale vs lager! This thread will be a testament to the wonder of CH3CH2OH!

Bacardi 151 straight. Or SoCo straight.

Buttershots are pretty good too, but they don't really get me where I'm going. Ever.

Oh, and Vodka's pretty favorable.

I'm a lightweight and don't drink all that often, so a few beers is good enough to get me tipsy. If I drink enough fast enough, I can get pretty hammered.

That's how it is for everybody. Put enough alcohol in your system fast enough, it fucks you up.

Not that I'd know or anything. :shifty:

Guess my favorites would have to be Disaronno, whiskey sours, and rum and cokes. Can just barely stand beer, and only the more heavy ones like Guinness and Sam Adams.

Although I almost forgot the time I was in Vegas and had five White Russians, causing me to stupidly bet my chips at the craps tables and wander to the wrong hotel only to wake up the next morning with a hangover to end all hangovers. Good times.

Reminds me of a quote i heard from a comedian.
"I don't want to taste the alcohol, i just want to blame it later"
heheh...

Though, Celes, i agree, I hate the taste unless it's been thoroughly disguised.
But god damn it if that's going to stop me from drinking it.

Captain and coke is a personal favorite, not for the taste really, just for feeling like a bad ass.
If i was going for taste, A bottle of Arbor Mist to the face would suffice probably. That stuff is like a giant juice box.

I'm pathetic when it comes to drinking. I can't stand the taste of alcohol unless there's lots of sugar in it... That said, screwdrivers and long island iced teas are fine. Any attempts to drink anything else evokes bemusement in others.

Screwdrivers!
Love those.

A good drink for those who don't like alcohol's paint-thinner like taste is, as we college kids have been calling it for centuries, Jungle Juice.
Urban dictionary defines it as follows:

(n.) A heavenly concoction composed of liberal amounts of everclear, vodka, or other available liquors, and Kool Aid. Known as 'jungle juice' because it sends the drinker into a state animal behavior. Can also include fruit bits that have been soaked in liquor for several hours prior to drinking session for maximum drunkenness. Side effects from consumption include blacking out, waking up in strange places, and having a generally awesome time.
We were all completely wasted after finishing that trashcan full of jungle juice.

Here's a good recipe for those interested.

As a broke ass college student, I too have settled on screwdrivers as my default drink. Really, when 1.75 liters of Popov only costs $11 and combines so well with a $3 gallon of orange juice it's almost the only smart choice you can make in college.

That being said, when I don't have to pay for the alcohol but still have a say in what gets bought, Wild Turkey is divine, especially with some coke.

I'm not a big fan of beer, but mostly because most of the cheap stuff we can buy is typical "sex on a canoe" fare and doesn't really do anything for me. However, we recently got hooked on the Heineken mini-keg ($20 for 20 drinks isn't bad when divided appropriately) and for those who don't like beer's skanky bitterness I highly recommend it.

I dont like the liqour taste much myself, but sugar seems to dampen the taste of alcohol so rum and coke, gin and tonic or something else which is cheap, easy and tastes good. Although tequila shots seems to overcome the alcohols taste.
but for hangovers, or I haven't had dinner before hitting the bars I say bloody mary for me, but preferably when I get to make them myself(bartenders here tend to be quite bad at the vodkapart)

for beer I dont care, the important queston is: do I get hammered?(ie. not children's beer or cider), no really the taste difference between a cheap beer and say a Carlsberg is nonexistant, chances are they are from the same brewery. Alcohol in general is quite expensive in the bars so we tend to drink a lot before going to town.

Right, but when mixed together correctly they taste amazing. There's a pub back where my folks live that makes the best ones EVAARRR; every place I've had one other than there has paled in comparison. I really should start making my own. I think a well-made Long Island is and will be my favourite beverage forever. Unless I am really thirsty -- nothing beats water or maybe Gatorade then.

I'm a big fan of scotch, a drink I can relax and appreciate (which I usually do, with perhaps an ice cube or two). I usually prefer lagers and ales as far as beers go but am not too picky (while I have yet to enjoy IPAs or stouts as much, I actually am willing to enjoy a wide range of beers), and I'm always down for the basic mixed drinks if I want to have a lot (like rum and cokes, screwdrivers, seven and seven, gin and tonic, etc.).

I feel like I'm old enough to know not to go out and get super-retarded, but sadly that's still happened a few times. But I just get back up in that saddle and keep on keepin' on.

Long Islands are nature's perfect mixed drink. They're all like "oh this tastes delightful!" two minutes later "HOSHITS DRUNK".

Also nothing says rainy day like hot chocolate spiked with scotch.

Also aslo cognac is really nice after a big meal, like for just sitting around and chatting.

I think that's pretty much the sum total of my experiential knowledge regarding boozin', so whatever that does for you.

Oh also every bar in the world that doesn't serve Dos Equis Amber: fuck you.

My lack of mention of wine is disgraceful. It derives, of course, from my lack of sophistication with the drink. All I know about wine is that I like reds, and my one experience with white had the caterer serve it at room temperature. Philistine.

As to the hot cocoa, Fifth, I prefer it with Irish whiskey. I would attribute it to patriotism, except that I have a Scottish background as well :sweatdrop

Heineken...skanky

uh, yeah, you know Heineken is skunked before bottling right? and fairly moldy?

Just checking

As for me, I love Rum, Whiskey, and vodka. on teh Beer end, nothing beats a good Sam Adams or George Killians.

the only time I mix are 4 horsemen (equal parts bourbon, Tennessee, and Scotch whiskeys, and tequila. ), and White Russians

EDIT: on the wine end, Im partial to a North Italian Red, seeing as i grew up with it. my family in Italy owns a vinyard.

I'm kind of picky when it comes to alcohol.

Well, its mostly that I friggin hate vodka. The taste, and it just makes my stomach churn. Like I drank a big drink with vodka once, and then threw up a bit later. Can't stand it.

I much prefer rum and whiskey, either mixed or shooting them straight.

Most beer is kinda meh, but that's what drinking games are for (it pisses people off, because I excel at them. I played hand after hand of High or Low with my cousin once and he was off his ass by the end, and I was still on my first beer. XD). I do harbor a fondness for guinness, though.

Mike's Hard Lemonade is also a favorite.

Rum in my cola, rum in my hot chocolate, rum in vanilla icecream milkshake... I might have tried some in my tea. I'm not a varied drinker, but this is only because I don't yet have the income to buy and try more alcohols. I suspect whiskey will be a winner. My first paycheck comes next week.

Oh yeah, mojitos! Those are the best things ever. If summer could be served with ice and mint leaves in it, that would be my best description.

Never been a fan of beer. With it's high availability due to other family member's love of watching hockey, I'm strongly considering drinking the stuff until I damn well like it anyway. I hope that's how acquired taste works.

I usually stick to whiskey when I'm at home. However, at a party or something I'll drink pretty much whatever gets put in front of me. I've got a suprisingly high tolerance for alcohol.

Also, I'm a big wine fan. I generally don't like to buy the expensive stuff, though; A cheapo bottle can get me to comfortably tipsy as easily as a fancy one.

I drink PBR because it's cheap. I drink too much of it. Why, right now, I'm cruising on six cans. I think foolishly trying to play a twenty song marathon on Rock Band has had more of an effect on my state of mind tonight. As for other drinks, eh, I'll take what I can get. Scotch to moonshine; I'm cool with whatever. I mean, I appreciate nice liquor and all, but drunk is drunk for the most part.

Brandy drunk is nice. I get more bubbly and excited than with other drinks. I need to buy a bottle of brandy some time...

I'm not really picky when it comes to drinks, and I like enough of a variety that wherever I go tends to have at least some of what I like.

For beers I'm partial to Sam Adams, Blue Moon, Magic Hat no.9 and Molson XXX.

For wines I like Cabernet and Pinot Noir, sometimes a Merlot if I feel it.

For liquor I like vodka and cranberry juice, mojitos (not for bars, in restaurants), screwdrivers, and just about anything else with vodka in it.

I got hooked on Long Islands at an early age. That and blackberry brandy.

That being said, I'm always up for a Gin and Tonic (I remember trying to order one when I was 5 and at a Chinese Restaurant with my parents in Everett, just north of Seattle... I didn't know any better at the time, I'd just gotten proficient in reading and it looked nifty... and no, I didn't get it... damn). I dislike most wine, though I have found I'm rather fond of Port.

And I love Sake. White is fine, red is better. I've heard of one type that I'd like to try where, when bottling, a live asp is dropped into the bottle, and allowed to die and decay inside. When the bottle is opened, the only things that remain are the skeleton and the Sake. It's supposedly a virility booster, but like the Fugu served in Japan, I just want to try it once to say I've tried it once.

For beers, sadly, most of the stuff I have drunk is crap. The closest I have gotten to having a good beer is Corona so I'll go with that.

I prefer Crown Royal myself. I allways preferred liquors where you could taste the TASTE, and not the bite. But then again, i'm like that with everything(not that the bite is BAD, i just prefer the taste). I guess that's why i'm a fan of mixed drinks. My favorite being the White Russian, or anything soured(preferably whiskey).

The sourpuss apple is sort of hard to come by I guess. Don't let them use just any apple flavored booze or it will really turn out bad.

Its good to learn the composition of your favorite drinks otherwise you might, like I have, order something delicious like 'Apple Pie' and wind up with a mud colored cider with just that slight hint of urine.

Blackberry Brandy is made of wonderful. It goes down more smoothly than a liquored-up prom queen, with less lingering STDs or other side effects. Your dad obviously got mixed up with one of Brandy's ugly sisters or something. :D

Well, I actually began drinking it shortly after I turned 14. Take a 16-ounce glass, fill 1/3 with ice. Drop in two shots of SoCo. Fill to halfway with Sprite. Fill the rest of the way with Egg Nog. Stir with a candy-cane, and allow the flavors to blend for a moment, then enjoy.

It's kinda become a family tradition since then. Nothing you can compare it to, really, just don't let it sit long. The mixture only has a slightly longer shelf-life than a cement mixer (read: 3 minutes). Tastes much better though.

Also, a little over a week ago I was "dared" (I typically do not shy away from drink dares, within reason) to mix Captain Morgan private stock with orange soda. Everyone felt it would taste horrible. It honestly tasted good. Not a very inventive or interesting drink, of course, but you may or may not want to taint your private stock and give it a shot.

Bailey's Irish Creme (which hasn't been mentioned yet for some reason) is the perfect thing for hot cocoa.

And no one here likes daiquiris?

Still, most of the time, I'm fine with a cuba libre. (Rum (I like Bacardi) and coke.)
Also, Jameson Irish Whiskey and Coke. Or SoCo and coke. Probably anything that could conceivably mix with coke, like Long Island Ice Teas.

Or Cabo Wabo tequila.

But no beer (or piss as I like to call it)or wine (I don't want to develop a palette).
