So, I've got a Wii, I've got a friend, and I wanna mix these. What are some good multiplayer games we could get into?
I was looking at a crystal chronicles, but the Wii game was just a DS game copied onto a wii disc, and the Gamecube one needs too many gameboys.
I'm looking for something that's not a FPS, has a story, and isn't too scary (though I doubt that one's a problem) :P
Does "not an FPS" include rail shooters? If not, you should totally get House of the Dead: Overkill. It is amazing.
Excellent games include Super Smash Brothers Brawl, Super Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart Wii, anything with Wario, and Rayman Raving Rabbits. Other games include Tales of Symphonia (Both! One is gamecube though.), and all the different sports and other games I cannot think of at the moment.
I could honestly go on for a good 20 minuets about good Wii Multiplayer titles, but a quick google search will find your needs the best.

Things on my shelf that I play with people like _mike and the people who drink with us: Wario Ware, Rayman Raving Rabids, Rock Band 2*, Dokapon Kingdom, Resident Evil, Umbrella Chronicles, Boom Blox, Wii Play, Super Smash Bros Brawl, and Wii Sports.
*I have Rock Band, but we don't play it, since the Guitar Hero 3 controller doesn't work with it
I recommend them all with the following reservations.
Rock Band is expensive and is done better on other systems (though Rock Band 2 is pretty close to its counterparts), though by no means are any of the Rock Band games on Wii bad games.
Dokapon Kingdom requires a huge time investment to play a proper game and is designed to make you hate everyone else playing. If you have friends who are constantly around and who you can punch in the face and they'll get over it, I recommend it as something you've never played anything quite like before. Also, it has a story, albeit a very, very strange and silly one.
Resident Evil is an on-rails shooter, and said you don't want shooters. However, it's really fun, and even people who don't play games can eventually get the hang of it/not suck at it too hard.
Wii Play might be a bit too much of an investment for just Tanks and Air Hockey, but, if you need another controller, you may as well get Wii Play.
The others I recommend for good times.
For fear of bogging down this post, Monster Hunter 3 will come out someday. It will have local multiplayer. I look forward to it.

Okay, let me start over, since I started this off without enough details. I'm bad at this communication thing.
A list of games I have already: SSB Melee, Rayman Raving Rabids (this got good scores), Wii Play (Kinda meh. I keep it for the tank game), Wario Ware (Fun with a large party)
The person I'll be playing with is my girlfriend. It'll only be the two of us playing most of the time. So, she'll probably not like Resident Evil, because she gets nightmares easily from spirits/zombie stuff (though I might be able to convince her after awhile, who knows).
I'm really wanting a game that'd have us progressing through a story (a.k.a not mini games). Crystal Chronicles had promise, except for being a shitty port and/or needing too many expensive other things. Super Mario Galaxy kinda fits this, but I didn't know it had a multiplayer before now. After looking it up, I'm not sure how the whole one person being the character and one person shooting thing would work out. Has anyone tried it? How was it?
Tales of Symphonia completely slipped my mind. I'll try this one out, see how it goes.
Rock Band would just be too expensive, sadly.
but a quick google search will find your needs the best.
I've googled. I may just be bad at it, but I also wanted to see what you guys would recommend, because you might have actually played them. I haven't been able to buy a new game in quite awhile, so I haven't really been keeping up with it.

Boom blox! Seriously is a bad ass game to play.

Super Mario's multiplayer is ok if you're helping someone who doesn't play games or if you're both sloshed. You don't strike me as the drinking type, so I wouldn't recommend it on its multiplayer merits. The game's very fun in all other respects, though.
I also don't know if you and your girlfriend have the kind of relationship that wouldn't be on rough waters after a monster destroys her only weapon while she's escorting Princess Penny back to Dokapon Castle, and you catch up to her, kill her, and get Penny back home while your girlfriend is still waiting to revive, thus winning the chapter and a castle, snatching away the substantial rewards she fought so hard to win. If you guys are tight enough that that situation won't be a problem, then Dokapon's still in the running, since she should be around enough that you can play a game over a couple days.
Oh, yeah, and Boom Blox, though the story isn't multiplayer. It is conducive to old school, Super Mario Brothers "you died, my turn" multiplayer, though*. Also, the proper multiplayer are fun.
*This sorta goes for Galaxy as well, but not as much, strangely enough

Super Smash Bros. Brawl. No questions, it just is.
Excite Truck is a launch title that got forgotten among the myriad of games coming out. BUY IT. It's amazing arcade racing fun. Excitebots: Trick Racing, the sequel, comes out this month.
Mario Kart Wii has been played for at least three hundred hours in my house already. Motion controls are inarguably an improvement for this franchise.
Wii Play for the extra controller.
Boom Blox is so much fun.
The House of the Dead: Overkill has excellent co-op for two players.
Also, tons of Virtual Console games have multiplayer support. Secret of Mana, for example, lets three players play simultaneously. The Classic Controllers might come expensive, though.
Super Mario Galaxy? Seriously? That game has the shittiest hackneyed multiplayer I've seen. I called it girlfriend mode (for non-gamer girlfriends, acourse), but honestly... it even bores them.
Wii Sports is a must. It's the multiplayer game, though there is no story. Same problem with Wii Play and Wario Ware: Smoothe Moves, but if you want to bowl, throw darts, or whatever, I'd grab them.
Mario Kart Wii and Super Smash Bros. Brawl are both good strong multiplayer games, but Kart lacks a story. Brawl's Adventure mode should satisfy your needs, though, as long as she knows enough about the characters.
Marvel Ultimate Alliance is good, but nerdy. Again, depends on your girlfriend, definitely. It's got all sorts of spastic motion controls, though, and your mileage may vary on that. It's a four-player co-op game with a story. ...There's also a level in Hell, and Ghost Rider is a character, so tread lightly since I see your girlfriend is scared of that sort of thing.
Defend Your Castle is a WiiWare title, not that expensive, and you can try out the online version (http://www.xgenstudios.com/play/castle) before dropping $5 on the Wii version. No story. All you and up to three friends have to do is... defend your castle.

Why the fuck would anyone want to play Mario Kart with a story?
They wouldn't, but he said he was looking for a multiplayer game with a story.

True that. Though now I want a Mario Kart story mode with cutscenes à la F-Zero GX. That would be some hilarious shit.
