OK, so I'm working on a website for a group I belong to. We have our own domain, and use Google Apps for the website. I recently decided to make a Google Webmasters Tools account as well, because I'd like the site to show up on the first page when you google it so we can get more people involved.
Anyways, Google WT wants a sitemap, and I'm running into a wall here. First, it said that if you're using Google Apps, then Google has a sitemap for you. However, when I go to input this address into WT, I can't. WT instantly wants you to use http://www.domain.com/ at the beginning of the sitemap URL, and the URL for the sitemap through Google Apps uses another website entirely. I don't think I'm supposed to use that one for my sitemap, then.
Attempt 2: Manually create a sitemap. I follow Google's instructions on how to do so, which coincide with www.sitemaps.org definitions. I make an XML file, and upload it to the website so I have a http://www.domain.com/sitemap.xml URL. I try to submit this sitemap to Google, but there appear to be line errors.
Attempt 3: Use www.xml-sitemaps.com . Same results exactly as attempt #2.
There are only three or four (not sure) pages on my website:
http://www.domain.com/home
http://www.domain.com/ (This one redirects to /home, so I'm not sure it counts)
http://www.domain.com/officers
http://blog.domain.com/
Anyone know anything about this? It's the first website I've ever worked on. I considered getting blog.domain.com to be a big accomplishment, and am aware that there's alot I don't know.
