Why are people so dependent on mp3 players? I accidentally separated a friend of mine from her iPod for a week, and she couldn't stop thinking about it, and said she was going crazy without it, even though she knew where it was and that it was safe.
Why is it that I had a great question when I thought to make this thread a few hours ago, but can't remember it now?

I don't have an iPod, but I know that I like to have music playing for a variety of things. I actually keep a playlist on my computer for whenever I'm playing WoW or Xbox LIVE, and am working on making a playlist tied to each game.

I have one and see everyone around me wearing one. Makes me a little worried everyone's getting a little too shut in. I've had a small group of friends walk somewhere in silence because everyone was listening to something, and that really bugged me.

Why do people insist on having computers and high speed internet choose to remain willfully ignorant about how their shit works? I have the worst luck when it comes to callers, and I always get the biggest idiots possible. I try to be patient, but I always end up wanting to strangle someone by the end of the call.

I'm guessing the same reason people use electricity or televisions or pretty much any technology ever and don't really know how they really work.
Although it is really frustrating explaining anything about computers to someone who knows nothing about them. I can understand your need to kill them. XD

If someone were sent hurtling into the sun, would they be crushed by the gravity or incinerated by the heat first?
If someone were sent hurtling into the sun, would they be crushed by the gravity or incinerated by the heat first?I would imagine heat first since being on the day side of any of the inner planets without a protective atmosphere is a recepie for flash-burned lifeform.

I'm pretty sure they would die of old age... or lack of Oxygen. Seriously, there is like, totally not air between here and the sun. Put your head outside the planet, you can check it for yourself!
On a less jackassly note, The heat would do it first. It has waaay much more range.

Why, on Easter, people pay a lot of cash on those chocolate eggs when they could buy a LOT more chocolate with the same cash if they bought chocolate bars?
Because of tradition. The same reason girls spend crazy amounts on a wedding dress when they could buy a much cheaper dress to get married in.
EDIT: Also, Chocolate eggs are dang delicious, moreso than just a normal chocolate bar.
Why, on Easter, people pay a lot of cash on those chocolate eggs when they could buy a LOT more chocolate with the same cash if they bought chocolate bars?Because everyone knows bunnies don't lay chocolate candy bars. It takes time and money to get them to lay those chocolaty cream filled eggs once a year.

What is your opinion of this (http://www.zewars.com/aw2k/LotImg13226.jpg)?
It looks too big for you. :p
Naw, but seriously, it's simple and elegant, and while the stone isn't huge, the thing is either silver or platinum, which are both real metal, and white gold otherwise, which, while not real gold of any quality (lots of nickel, most likely), is still worth something.
Eltargrim
04-10-2009, 11:55 PM
Well, given that the stone does not need to be huge, and it is 14 carat white gold, I think it'll be acceptable :p
The idea was more for comments on the style; you're basically thinking the same as I am, and given I've seen some hideously ornate rings out there, I felt that a simple, modern counter is appropriate.
I'll be going to get it tomorrow, methinks.
Here's another question: where do your tastes lie? Simple vs ornate!
bluestarultor
04-11-2009, 12:02 AM
Frankly, it doesn't matter how complex something is (to me) so long as it's elegant. Obviously, if it's busy, it goes off the deep end into gaudy, but even a complex pattern can be elegant if done correctly, which can show a lot of class in the buyer. For instance, there's nothing wrong with a marquis cut if it suits the style of the ring, where a brilliant might not do it justice by being too big or just plain too round when the style doesn't call for it. It's perfect for a more angular ring, where a brilliant looks best with other rounded forms.

I have *no* idea what you just said. My policy on buying jewellery is as follows:
1) Is it pretty?
2) Is it classy?
3) Can I afford it?
If I can answer yes to all three, then there we go. It's served me well so far.
Taste is something I have a hard time acquiring. On the bright side, some things I just have a feel for (Furniture is my bitch).
EDIT: Oh, gemstone cuts. I see now. Kind of.
bluestarultor
04-11-2009, 12:13 AM
A brilliant cut is what you have there. A marquis cut is shaped like a lemon, with the same idea for the bottom, and often preserves more of the stone.

Why was I so dang cynical yesterday? Sheesh. Sorry.
Here's another question: where do your tastes lie? Simple vs ornate!
My tastes lie in cheapness. XD The girl next to me in my art history class is always talking about her jewelry and how the cheapest piece of jewelry she owns is $40, and I secretly say to myself "man, I don't think all of my jewelry added up equal $40." :sweatdrop
But I do like simple. At least as far as jewelry goes, although I like it to have some sort of unique feature, AKA it doesn't look like every other ring out there. So something more like this (http://www.aclutx70th.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/blue-diamond-rings.jpg) or this (http://www.sndgems.com/pink_sapphire_diamond_rings1.jpg) rather than this (http://www.anzorjewelrycorp.com/jewelry/ring-russian-5028.jpg).
Random question: If you had to watch all of Star Wars, would you watch it 123456, 456123, or 451236?
Probably 456123, just like I did originally.

So I have been informed that girls from the Asia-Pacific area wear a key as jewellery (In the form of a necklace or an earring) once they reach 21 years of age. My phone rings when it rings. Also, it does flip open or out, nor does it slide in any direction. It doesn't take pictures and it doesn't play music. It's just a phone.

Why, on Easter, people pay a lot of cash on those chocolate eggs when they could buy a LOT more chocolate with the same cash if they bought chocolate bars?
I don't know what you're talking about. Usually you can get a giant chocolate bunny of pure milk chocolate for less than $2 at the local pharmacy or grocery store, which is often cheaper and more accessible than buying huge chunks of chocolate at a chocolatier.
After Easter, you can get them for $0.50 each, so that's a lot of good, thick, chocolate, perfect for keeping in a clean cupboard and cutting off chunks to sate a chocolate craving with a warm knife.
I will being getting my choco-lat on tomorrow, and I shall be a happy Pyros.
...oh, you said Chocolate Eggs....my point still stands though, sorta.

Depends on who's calling me, as I have them all set to different Robot Masters from Mega Man 9.
Kevin is Magma Man, John is Plug Man, unknown numbers are Tornado Man, and the list goes on. And my mom is Splash Woman, cause I'm single and I have no chick friends who call me except for Cheyanne and she's got the Gundam Wing song for a reason that takes too long to explain.
Its worth noting that text messages is Navi's "Hey!", E-mail alerts are the "Dominating!" theme from TF2, MySpace to my phone is "Revenge!" from the same, and Bout Won! from Mike Tyson's Punch Out is new Facebook messages.
I've been either thinking about the Codec Call or Alert! as well, but CJ beat me to it.

One thing I always make sure of when getting a new phone is that it allows me to set recorded sound as the ring tone because heck if I'm going to download anything.
New Question!
What music are you listening to right now? Not necessarily what is playing right now, but what kind of stuff have you been listening to lately?
I've been listening to Metal Gear music as well as Disney music (I got a huge CD of, like, 80 Disney songs for my birthday). A strange mix but... Oh and "Still alive" from Mirror's Edge, which I also got for my birthday, but it doesn't work on my computer. :(
Been listening to the MadWorld soundtrack, full versions of the Fullmetal Alchemist opening and closing themes, and some Hyadain.

Mine vibrates, nothing more, mainly because I never hear it and/or because damn ringing phones annoy the fuck out of me.
What music are you listening to right now? Not necessarily what is playing right now, but what kind of stuff have you been listening to lately?
Well, right now I'm listening to a whole bunch of Demon Hunter tracks that I just stole from a friends computer, along with a shit ton of Disturbed, Amon Amarth, Bullet for my Valentine, Devil Driver, Dope, Incubus, Korn, Lostprophets, Mudvayne, Muse, Mushroomhead, Pantera and a little bit of Dragonforce that I didn't have before.
But mostly lately I've become obsessed with Kamelot, who I've introduced to most of my friends, because apparantly no one has heard of them and they are awesome beyond words.
Why can I not think of a decent question to ask to finish off this post?

Why are people so inattentive when ordering food at a fast food place? Many times have I seen people come into Wendy's or pull up to the drive-thru and ask for Chicken McNuggets, a Happy Meal, or a McDouble. Do people just assume that every fast food place is a McDonalds?

I went through a McDonald's drive-thru and ordered a Blizzard. I blame the fact that I don't ever go to McDonald's, not liking them overall, and that I was actually on the way to a DQ when I realized the former was closer and turned. Thankfully they didn't correct me and let it slide, while I did a mental "doh" when it came up on the screen with the correct name.
Can you still name the capitals of all fifty states? I sure can't anymore, though that's one of the things everyone seems to have learned back in grade school (interestingly the names of the fifty states, the national anthem, the Pledge of Allegiance, the quote on the Statue of Liberty, and things like the Bill of Rights I can recall, but these city names, save for a few, didn't retain).

Ringtone: A version of an old-style of phone from the forties, because it is actually one of the least annoying tones my phone provides. If I can ever figure out why my music won't transfer from computer to phone, then I want to give all of my contacts individual ones. Particularly ones like "I'm so Emo' for my emo friend, something Jack Black or Chris Farley for my outrageous friend, Limp Bizkit or Metallica for my asshole friend, Leo Laport for my tech friend and other crap.
Music: Lots and lots of Power Metal, Kamelot included, one of my favorites.
The Drive-thru: I had the same thing. For me, if someone asked for McNuggets, I said "Sorry, but we can get you a 5 piece with real chicken in them and a breading that doesn't make your mouth feel pasty." People asked for McFlurries a lot, too. Do you ever have people who ask "Is a frosty like ice cream?"
Popcorn: I like the variety packs that come in the big tin. I think they normally have regular, caramel and cheese, so no need to pick and choose.

Depends on the type of camping really. Camping on it's own is alright enough. However going on several day hikes which just so happens to include you camping in what could perhaps be the worst places to set up camp for the night is when it is most fun.
I find Biviwack-ing more fun than traditional camping. There's something very gratifying of building your own shelter (Even if it does flood completely from torrential rain the next morning, or is trampled on by Cattle...)

I consider going out with campers less camping and more hangin' out in a shoddy house while near some nature. Each can be fun, of course, provided the right friends are along, but *shrug* the latter's not camping.
That said, provided it wouldn't take forever, I'd consider going on an RV-based road trip for a week or so.
More questions to fuel the fire:
Those of you who use an OS that lets you move your taskbar (i.e. not OS X), top, bottom, left, or right (or, if it applies, more than one)? Mac users, where do you put your dock (left, right, bottom)?
- I have done them all, but didn't enjoy the sides for in Windows and have settled for top for the taskbar (no auto-hide). I use the left for the OS X doc, and Ubuntu's top/bottom default has been fine (though I may switch back to an auto-hide left).

I personally throw it on the left side. At first it was really awkward but now I cringe when I operate a Windows OS that doesn't have the taskbar on the left. I shrink the bar down enough that the bars for the various applications are just symbols, and the only thing on the "Start" menu is the Windows symbol.

On Windows I have it to the default bottom left, as a result of years of interface conditioning.
However on Kubuntu I never even touch the taskbar; ALT + F2 all the way baby!

How many people here use a lanyard to keep track of keys?

Wherever I go, my lanyard goes.

I am one of the only people I know, offline anyway, who has one.

I like camping but I'm such a brain-hungry person I often end up taking my DS for those long nights where you have literally nothing to do cause its so dark other than sit around and talk, just in case you run out of stuff to talk about (or hate the company you're with).

If you are actually awake for those long nights, you're doing it wrong. The idea is to be so tired that you sleep from dark to at least dawn, if not well past dawn.
Or you could look at the stars, what with there being no light pollution and all.
My lanyard is for my flash drives. My keys are on a carabiner, as is my multitool.

Nah nighttimes when camping are for pulling super pranks on other tents and also playing cards with mad bluffing because the opponents can't really see your cards when they on the table. And for gin. Bottles and bottles of gin, the one and only camping drink.
Also yeah kayak camping is awesome. Last tie we went we had too much stuff so our kayaks were very low in the water and everything got soaked. Our tents dried out pretty quickly, our clothes not so.

People move their taskbars?
Why?
At school, I had to use OS-X, so I put the dock on the bottom to try to emulate Windows as much as possible. RTS games usually have their interfaces on the bottom also (I guess WarCraft 1 and 2 are exceptions, but StarCraft made the bottom the standard).
Also whoever posted the 8bit remixes neglected perhaps the best one ever (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCTjdEYpD2I&feature=related)
Edit: found a much better version.

New question:
When you're sick, what do you do to get better ASAP. Grandma's secret recipe soup? Sleeping all day?
Myself I tend to start drinking apple juice and cranberry juice (I don't like orange juice) and eating soup in hopes that it will fight it off. I have been taking some cold medicine but I ran out. Blah.

I tend to try and pump myself full of Vit C. Oranges or Vit C chews do the trick. Cranberry juice is also nice, as is apple juice. Depends what kind of sickness it is otherwise. If it's a stomach thing, I have some dry toast and ginger ale and try to lie down. If it's a cold, I blow my nose a lot to get the snot out and just try and take it easy.

When I am sick, I just remember that I am a hard man, and hard men do not have time for illness.
my white blood cells then form up into some sort of biological Junta and elminate all free radicals.

I just have some chicken noodle soup and lie in bed for the day(s).

Yours are the antibodies that will pierce the heavens! Who the hell do you think we are?!
I haven't been bedridden with illness for 4 years. I've had sniffles that may have been allergies, considering their timing (spring after it warms up, fall when the leaves are blowing around).
Also, except for the last time I threw up from reacting to a test drug at a drug study program, I haven't thrown up in even longer.

Mostly I just drink tons of water and sleep it off. My immune system is mostly built out of steel so half the time I don't even get sick but when I do it puts me out.

Yeah I am generally pretty healthy and don't really get flus and colds and aches and things. But when I get sick, I get really really sick.
Then I load up with drugs like a small africa country.

I prefer the "Kick back and take it easy" method for whatever illnesses I have.
Generally that approach means I get rid of whatever bug's in my system within the day.
However... bosses usually disagree with this method, preferring me to rather down half a carton of paracetamol before letting me go home and rest up. (understandable, of course, don't get me wrong!)
