Savage 2's a great game I stumbled upon. It used to be P2P, but recently turned F2P with a few benefits to people with prime accounts.

The game is pretty simple. There are two teams, usually human vs. beasts. Players get to choose which team they'd like to play on. Each team has a commander, who controls the team RTS style. Everyone else plays as a unit on the field, in a third person perspective. Some units also have ranged attacks, which allows you to play in a first person point of view. The way you win is by destroying the enemies' Stronghold.

The game's pretty damn good to me.

I used to play the original. It was indeed very fun. The fusion of FPS and RTS amazes me to this day and I wish more games did it.

Edit: HEY EVERYONE THIS IS FREE TO PLAY LETS ALL PLAY THIS!!

I needs more RAM! Sadness! I can play it, but it'll be like Battlefield 2 in that some massive thing will occur and I'll not know I'm dead a half minute after the fact.

Granted, I'll be doing a bunch of installation work come the beginning of this summer, and I may be able to fix that.

I recall trying this out, either in Beta or with a legitimate copy I acquired from a friend, and vaguely recall issues with finding a populated server with a low enough ping to make playing worthwhile, with I chocked up either to it being beta at the time, or that the developers were headquartered elsewhere and there weren't many NA servers. I think there was also some pretty buggy shit going on that put me off the game, but is was quite a while ago.

I think I will try out again.

The RTS part is the exact same as my idea of a StarCraft MMO. I've got to look into this game.
