Hey guys guess what! IM OUT OF SCHOOL. WOOO SUMMER! FREEDOM!
...
Why am i not excited. Seriously i feel like im staying up on a school night not the usual party feeling like i got all the other years. Maybe because this year it was all anticlimactic our class got out early so we didn't get rushing down the halls Screaming like a kinder gardener Freshmen thing. All i did was walk out to my car and drive out of the parking lot grabbing a sandwich on the way home.

any way
Who here is Out of school wish they where out of work or is about to be out of school soon.

Summer means for me:
- reading books, going to read one about opium-eater
- reading school books because of YO
- anyone interested what YO means, just wonder, ask later or ask Osterbaum about that one
- I should like totally seriously think what in earth I'm going to do after school is over, like, what job I should have and where I should apply for
- not having job, ah, lovely
- riding with my trusty bicycle, because fuck you cars

I was forced to take a job, OR ELSE. And since getting a job with my hairdo is tricky, I was pulled into my maternal unit's mortgage company. One that didn't suffer in the economic thingy.

I make copies of mortgage files in a small breakroom, one after another, for roughly 8 hours, using a stupid copy/fax/print/scanner that has a 7% chance of jamming with every print, PER PAGE. I have gone through over 2,500 pages, over 3000 if you count errors and ruined paper. I have killed enough trees to make a new home!

I have enough paper cuts to no longer identify my hands, and it's a strict dress code because they're all uppity white collar business types, so I have to wear professional clothes: Which means no shorts or simple t-shirts.

This also means, that I am in a small breakroom with three HOT OFF THE PRESSES Print/Copy/Fax/Scan machines, standing up because I have no room to sit down because everyone else is eating or waiting for my print job to end so they can fiddle with the copier settings and get their own copying done.

My feet are sore, I'm sweating (it's more humidity than heat, though) and I'm not doing the one thing I love: Vegging out in front of a TV with a suitable console.

All of this for $300 a week with no taxes (I'm a contractor!)

Doin' pretty good for an everyday talking/typing housecat pyro, but good ME this will kill me before too long.

WHERE'D MY SUMMER GO????

It is very scientific.

I have a bigger problem with the fact that its just now summer yet it's been well over 80 for over a month now and we have almost no water in our rivers and streams!

Whee!

It will be truly summer for me in 3 weeks.

At that point, I will do NOTHING for 3 months, and all the while I will keep going "Man I feel like doing something productive."

And then I won't, because that'd involve work and my summer is for being lazy.

I dont understand.

Anyway. I got a rather kick ass job at the local baseball stadium. i basically play games with little kids all day...the kids are no problem (because you decide if they get prizes or not so they generally don't mess with you) its the Drunk overprotective, OCD, Perfectionist parents that complain about the base balls all around your game and while your picking them up their spoiled brat is ether trying to steal tokens, Prizes, or turns (by playing when I'm not looking.) and if the kid doesn't win a prize(or manage to steal anything) with one of these parents around then I will get bitched at for 20 minutes then my boss comes and gets bitched at as well (In which the child leaves without his prize and the parent takes him to another game and i get to fist bump my 50+ year old boss trying to be "hip" or a promise of a cup of water for all my trouble.) We used to have breaks but they where taken away lately (which brings up many legal issues and complaints) but that basically means that i have to sit in the heat all day with a bunch of kids and hope to god i am not assigned one of the Mind-numbing boring games or the non stop horror of the WIFFLEBALL FIELD

but other wise im going to watch E3 reserve and Buy RED FACTION Guerrilla and rent Prototype.
maybe i can actually start on my webcomic idea this year.

- reading school books because of YO
- anyone interested what YO means, just wonder, ask later or ask Osterbaum about that one
YO -kirjoitukset or 'Ylioppilas -exams' are the matriculation exams of Finnish equivalent of High School. People usually take them pretty seriosly, these days mostly because of tradition, and those doing the exam get most of the spring free so they can study. Most people graduate after doing all of the exams. These days I think you have to do atleast four subjects, which have to include: finnish, foreign language; long degree (this is english for most), a 'real' subject of your choosing and either math or swedish. Many people choose to do a few more, like an additional language or another 'real' subject. I for example did finnish, english, biology, history and swedish. The grades are from I(for improbatur), A(for aprobatur) B(for lubenter aprobatur), C (for cum laude aprobatur), M (for magna cum laude aprobatur), E (for eximia cum laude aprobatur) and finally L (for laudatur cum laude aprobatur). Like anyone of you was THAT interested in it. I just like to explain in detail.

Anyway, my summer will consist of studying, very little of work for I was not able to score any, trying to get buy due to lack of work, chilling, studying some more. So school is actually not out for the summer.

Since summer started I've been looking for a new job because the damn pizza place I was working at loses a ton of business when all the college students leave town. So now I'm getting ready to start working at a local movie theater.

Hurray for free movies.

I'm just working in the vain hope that sometime I'll finish my pHD. Fortunately our departmental student association has organised a whole ton of beach days and bbqs so I get lots of days to laze around the beach fortunately.

Technically I'm taking summer classes and have been since last week. Strangely though I find myself glued to my giant TV playing Fallout 3 for basically all of the day. I accidentally finished it without saving at an appropriate place so I've started over. Its ok though since now that I know how to play I was able really twink out my character right from the vault.

It's lacking mathematics! But not really.
Which mathematics did you study anyway? Long or short?

And I think that there's also two major reasons to do YO in addition of tradition. It give you points when applying in university and it's quite good reason to have party, where family gives you money. And dishes. Gotta remember the dishes.
And you get white cap. Wearing it on the day when you graduate, and you may get couple free drinks in bars.

...damn man, way to make me with my Arkansas public school education feel real stupid :(

But we aren't happy students here in Finland. It's more like that we have more learn about your kind of education, so we maybe wouldn't be so despressed. :/
There's even some statics about that thing, you know, that Finish youngs are pretty fucked up.
Not that I don't enjoy studying, but well.

Finland does have one of the highest suicide rates in the developed world. Last I saw they were easy top of the OECD.
I mean they generally do pretty well on the academic tests too but then so do other countries without all the suicide.

Right now I'm working at a movie theatre for 8 dollars an hour, for about 8 hours a week (though since it's summer I'll probably start getting more). I need to find another job. :\

Meanwhile I'll look into getting back into a college in the fall and getting a girlfriend. I wish I could say all this would keep me busy.

Great you guys are making me feel so old. Already graduated and working in my feel damn you youngens!

This summer is the year I throw away any pretend freedom I have and get married huzzah! Oh and that I once again cry that hockey is over for another 3 months and my Flames did nothing in the playoffs. I suppose I'll watch the CFL again. Maybe play paintball or something, who am I kidding I'm just gonna play video games.

What's summer? I haven't had one for 2 years now. I'm working in my career field in the USAF now though, still in training technically, and I still will be for another year at least.

I'm getting too many ideas to actually implement. Spending more time with ideas than actually learning how to bring them to life. This is in between spring cleaning (I know, I'm late on that :P ) and walking everywhere because gas prices around here just hit $2.70 a gallon again. Bastards are trying to find the tipping point and think they're going to milk us for $3.00 a gallon again with summer travel going on. I hope to God it all comes crashing down on them before that, because FUCK paying in excess of four dollars a gallon! They can have their two bucks and be damn happy with it. I'm in an economically depressed area (also known as the biggest spot in the middle of nowhere, with no farms and no city jobs, either), yet gas prices here are often above the national average. Greedy jerks!

[/rant]

Edit: Master just reminded me, I offered to continue with Eltargrim's project, even though I don't have to now that the semester is over. Still waiting for word on that, but I should probably send an email as a reminder that I could use some confirmation on whether they want me to continue. Grim, if you're reading this, I have yet to do anything while I'm waiting on that, because it makes no sense for me to do work that's not needed, especially until I know if I can whip it out in ASP or not. I'm pretty sure I could MAKE a product in PHP, but I could make a much better one in ASP.

I'm dicking around with Access, SQL, and Visual Basic trying to collect data so the plant can defend themselves from their customers. Unfortunately the computer I have is shitty, so things randomly don't work in Access, and I even had a report disappear today. The coding for it was still there, so it wasn't deleted, it just up and vanished.

But I'm happy, because the compy will get fixed eventually (Probably soon since its gotten this bad), and I've pretty much have a job until I graduate (three years from now) unless I do something unbelievably stupid. Not to mention its good work experience (and pay :P ).

Osterbaum is recruiting people to join Finland for the next epic power struggle.

And as for me I shall be re-enacting Grease or something, as that always reminds me of Summer. Yes with the leather jackets, hairstyles and flying car included.

My summer consists of toiling away on the ambulance for 10 hours a day for much less money than people think. I am also, like Wyndon, studying for the dreaded MCATs. I have planned only 3 real fun activities for the summer: a BBQ next week with some old college friends, a free Mets game with the ambulance company, and a vacation to Atlantic City with my boyfriend the weekend after my MCATs.

I am with Krogothwolf, you people make me feel old. And what summer? I have 3 weddings in a month, then my wedding at the end of August. Plus, full time job while I put together my re-application for Medical school. Not that I can complain too much about the job though, Mayo really treats people well.

But ANYWAY I have not had a summer in 3 years. In 2 months my god son/daughter will be born, then a wedding a few weeks after that. after the due date. I got 3 family reunions to go to, a trip to 6 flags, and I need to finish building my trebuchet so I can start working on my other projects.

There's no problems in Finland. Finland is perfect place to live.
All hail to Finnish government and it's wisdom in all things. We are going to have different one in future though.

And it seems that the first days of my summer holiday were spent reading The Sandman.
