Now that Pontiac has been cut, you can probably find replacement parts for that super-cheap. Go to a Pick-A-Part and find yourself a new door, rear bumper, trunk, a couple of quarter-panels... or hell, just go to a junkyard and find yourself a new car.

The interior at least looks ok.

God damnit Aston Martin, why must you be so alluring and yet so unattainable?

But seriously, it's hard to watch Top Gear when they test drive most any Aston Martin because it is supremely difficult to explain to anybody walking by why you have a raging hardon while a show containing only men is playing.

Heresy488
06-14-2009, 12:45 AM
The thing about the Yaris's is they're the workhorse of the Toyota fleet, even more so than the Camry.

Yaris's are fleet vehicles, pure and simple. They're small, light, cheap, and manufactured en mass to be sold to companies for car rental or as work vehicles. The company I used to work at drove those for deliveries - you take out the back seats and you find yourself with a crap ton of room.

Don't feel too bad Mauva, my car is a fleet vehicle too. I drove by a Ford Dealership to look at the new Mustangs (want one!) and I passed by their rental department, and I saw Focus, Focus, Focus, Focus, Focus, Focus, Fusion, Focus..... I walked back to my little Focus and felt really sad! Poor widdle car...

Meh, you're all entitled to your opinion. I'm happy with my car. It's reliable, cost efficient, and considering that I drive 40 miles to work (one way) every day, it works well for me.

It's quiet, small, and weird-looking, just like me. It suits my needs quite well, and it's actually quite fun to drive. Sure, it's not a car you can fit a bunch of people in, but I don't usually go out with large groups of people so it's never an issue. Plus my aunt works for Toyota so I got it new for really cheap.

What planet are you from, Dumbtown IV? The planet so dumb they called it a town?

News flash: it's a bargain rice rocket. What are you going to expect from a car like that?

But basically what you're saying is, it was better/easier to buy a new car that you didn't like than to just compromise and get a used car with a few issues. That's why they're used man, someone else drove them. I'm not going to bash you for compromising. I would recommend you open your mind to tuning. Most mods are actually better for the car.

Think computers - would you ever buy a Dell, or another namebrand computer, or would you just do it yourself? Cars are the same way. Nothing that comes from the factory will be as good as what the after-market will do for you. I installed on my Focus a KNN cool-air intake and an SVT modified exhaust system. SVT (Special Vehicle Team) is Ford's in-house tuning division. Those mods give my car better performance and better mileage. I put on 19" wheels with performance tires. True, a better Focus is like being afflicted with a less severe strain of the flu - it's still a crap Focus.

But the point is I now drive a better car than what I had bought, for very little dough. And they were easy to install. Like computers, cars have come a long way and all it takes is some effort and the will to read the directions to modify your own car.

The in-take lowers the temperature of the air being injected into the engine. Cooler air combusts cleaner and more efficiently. This means for the same amount of effort, my engine can put out more power. Increased acceleration, top speed, and mileage. The speed the system can operate at is inherently inhibited by factors that slow it down - weakest link in the chain and all that. The core of any exhaust upgrade is to speed the flow of exhaust out of the engine so that there is no backlog of air going into the engine. Believe it or not, the truth is a very thin exhaust pipe is choking your engine just as much as a shitty intake. And when you look at some econo-box exhaust pipes, they're usually about an inch or 1 1/2" around, and that's not for performance, that's for emissions.

Cars are constantly being strangled in the pursuit for high emissions, ignoring how a high-performance engine is often more efficient and cleaner than a strangled 4 banger. The Corvette ZO6 has more than 500 horsepower, but doesn't pay the gas guzzler tax because it earns nearly 30 mpg. Yes, you can have high performance and efficiency, except only the American companies seem to know that, and even they make the occasional mistake.
The wheels and tires are obviously an upgrade from the fat side-walls Ford saddled me with. If you think those big rims and skinny tires are just a stupid, uniquely AMERICAN thing, think again. BMW and Mercedes have been doing that for years. It's a uniquely European innovation. If the tire thickness is restricted (skinny tires) then the tire cannot flex at the side-wall, and the car will handle much better. True, you'll feel every bump in the road, but everything about your steering and maneuverability will be enhanced dramatically.

It all serves a purpose. Give the mods a chance. They'll give you a better ride than what Mitsubishi will give you.

*** *** *** ***

TL;DR give modded cars a second chance. I can see a situation where you wouldn't want to inherit another driver's Frankenstein, but most mods are simple mechanical upgrades that improve the function of the car, which will add years to it's life.

Also, how cool that we both like Sport Compacts, the Tau, and the color orange! Gosh, we're practically best friends!

Except that it has a racing stripe. Man nothing ruins a dream car than an ugly racing stripe. Otherwise, sure!

Melfice

I think a Cobra's allowed to have a racing stripe though. ;)
On anything BUT muscle cars, racing stripes look like crap, but here? I think it's okay to have one.

Certainly better than on a Volkswagen New Beetle. I wish I was making that up...

CelesJessa
06-14-2009, 11:11 AM
But it would be 100x better without the racing stripe. Honestly, it's horrible and ugly no matter what car it's on (at least in my opinion. It's just visually ugly to me). Maybe it's a guy thing or maybe I'm just a weirdo.

I think we're all weirdos.

No, but seriously. The racing stripe more or less got made famous by the Cobra, as far as I know. (the old one, that is)
I don't know what people with Ford Focuses (How DO you pluralize that anyway? Focuses? Foci? Focus'?) and the aforementioned New Beetle are doing sporting one, but the Cobra deserves it. It wouldn't look good without it. It's it's heritage.

And on a meta-car-related note: The fronts of cars look like faces, obviously. Now, I don't know if they do it on purpose, but you can tend to judge a car by its 'expression'.

Look at my car.

All sports cars (or fast cars in general) look pretty angry. I wonder if they do it on purpose.

Thanks. I wasn't sure about that. Right-o!

Also, yes. They do actually make sports cars look "mean" on purpose.
It's kinda like you said. Who'd buy a sports car if it looks like it would do community service on it's own free will? (Assuming a car could do that and has a free will. ;) )

Heresy488

But hey, there's an audience for sleepers - cars that perform but look ordinary. The new Taurus SHO is going to be like that. Other examples are the Pontiac G8 and Mercury Marauder.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleeper_(car)

The cool thing to do with those is to gussy it up all nice like a Lincoln Towncar or other some such, and then when a punk with a front-wheel drive car and a stupid ostentatious wing pulls up alongside and revs all four of his puny cylinders, you put the hammer down with YOUR BIG ROMPING V8 FIRE SCREAMING OUT THE TAIL PIPE AND LAY DOWN A QUARTER MILE OF BURNING RUBBER!!!!!

HAHAHA!

In addition: the new Mazda's look stupid with that big ugly grin on their faces, and the new Corvette's mouth makes it look like a fish. BMW's adopted an aggressive tail-light design. But the all-time best aggressive car related thing was a Cadillac commercial for their HiPo sedan, the CTS-V, the ad went, "When you turn on your car, does it return the favor?"
