View Full Version : Anyone Like Covers?
The Webb Sisters ft. Leonard Cohen - If It Be Your Will (http://elbo.ws/video/RygLzY2xOVA/)
Just a chance to show that off. Awesome song, awesome cover, awesome concert. (I didn't go, but the album is great - especially his poems.)
Any great covers you guys wanna share?
I have some blue sky and cloud covers on my bed. They're pretty rad...
Oh! You're talking about music covers! Well, I know they already have their own thread, but The Adventures of Duane and BrandO have a pretty rad cover of the Punch-Out song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35fOxzI-qkI&fmt=18).

The cover of I Fought the Law by The Clash is the best version of the song I've heard.

This probably goes without saying. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SmVAWKfJ4Go&feature) But Johnny Cash's Hurt is still.. pretty damn sweet.
And Jailhouse rock (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RcV3sXeBOAM&feature=fvw) by Queen is good. But there's probably much better covers out there.

Well... considering I like Rapalje.
And considering Rapalje plays covers/adaptations of traditional folk songs.
Yes, I do think I like covers. :P
But in general, I prefer the original over the cover.

SikTh does Iron Maiden's Wrathchild (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_WsXGUN7wxs&feature=related)
I just found this and I'm a huge fan of SikTh.
I can see why people wouldn't like it.
I think its great.

For reference, here's an older thread on covers (http://forum.nuklearpower.com/showthread.php?t=33000).
I personally like "Istanbul (Not Constantinople)" by They Might Be Giants.

Some of my favorite songs are covers, but it just depends on how well they do.
Covers I like better than original:
van Canto covering Fear of the Dark (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vyHcIHssdHA) by Iron Maiden.
Blind Guardian covering Mr. Sandman (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qDFmNgmaEe0) by The Cordettes.
Primus covering The Devil Went Down to Georgia (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3FRtkek-Et4) by The Charlie Daniels Band.
And a few not better or worse IMO, but still awesome:
Deftones covering Simple Man (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_XEgZk7iYM) by Lynyrd Skynyrd. Can't stand the Shinedown version, though.
van Canto covering Battery (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1kaQ8RRrUM) by Metallica.
Blind Guardian covering Surfin' USA (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hmHNyqNCfak) and Barbara Ann (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=48Ilx_QRXdY) by The Beach Boys.
Of course, van Canto covering The Bard's Song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sBxCl2TJNnQ) by Blind Guardian. (original (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_tORtmKIjE))
Those are just the ones I can think of right now.

Gary Jules version of Mad World (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4N3N1MlvVc4&fmt=18)
Though I think this was mentioned in the previous thread.

Covers of songs by their influences. Which means its full of iconic songs and not all of them are the best covers (Blackened's vocals are completely replaced by growls and what have you) but for a metal band its pretty dern versatile. :P
Links in order:
Cemetery Gates - Pantera
Bicycle Race - Queen
Blackened - Metallica
Kickstart My Heart - Crue
Territory - Sepultura
Change - Blind Melon (The lead guitarist sings on this one)
The Day I Tried to Live - Soundgarden
Colorblind - Counting Crows
Three of a Perfect Pair - King Crimson
Us and Them - Pink Floyd
Edit: I had never actually seen King Crimson before now... The guy plays a goddamn chapman stick while he sings. wtf.
What. The. Fuck.
I mean hell. He plays a Chapman Stick in a band. That's already cool. But damn.
