This could be in general, but i t felt better in here...

So, when you guys compare your abilities with any given sport, and your abilities with Video game sports... how does it fare?

I just noticed that, even though i suck at most sports i still can manage to get a stride going on video games. Like tennis! I just noticed that there are, like, a thousand or so Tennis games on the Wii.. so i decided to play them all at the same time, and then i got to play the real thing.

That's when i learned that on video game tennis i HATE when the CPU plays on the net (it destroys me. Just yesterday on Grand Slam Tennis i won a match 10 to 8), but IRL, i am what i hate =P

Same thing with Golf! Looooove me some Tiger woods, but i'm happy when i clear a course with just 7 over par. IRL, i tried a mini-golf challenge in a convention (3 holes in one to win a free Nike Tennis Ball!) and i just got 2 holes in one on my first try!

On Skateboarding, i can hardly stay on a real Skateboard. But on Tony Hawk i'm flipping 5 trick combos like a natural skill!

So, how do you guys compare on your Video game sports skills with Real life sport skills?

That's because games are easier.

I love sports games, heres a nice comparison of them

Hockey:
I was a very good hockey player when I played, I'm almost deadly in Video game Hockey

American Football:
I was a good receiver and backup running back and I'm pretty good in Madden

Soccer:
I was a decent Midfielder but I'm pretty bad in soccer video games

Basketball:
I can't jump, I'm okay in EA's basketball games

Golf:
It's headed for the trees! Is me in a nutshell in both rl and vg

Tennis:
Mediocre at best, Video Game I'm okay at

Boxing:
I can't box. In Video Games I am a pretty good swinger

Skateboarding:
Never tried. I'm okay in Tony Hawk though

Snowboarding
I'm really bad at it irl. I'm a decent vg boarder.

I think that covers the ones I play.

Well it hard to compare as on videogames you can easily win super world tournaments and things which you can never do in real life.
But compared to my friends, I'm better at actual sports than I am in video game sports. But that's mostly because we generally invent our owwn sports and I'm good at inventing tactics on the fly- and friends who can sense what I'm trying and adapt to it.
In videogames I'm quite a defensive player whereas in real life I play aggressively because I have good bursts of pace so that doesn't sync up either.
And also cause we play a lot of rugby type games and it easier for me to slip past people than try and win physical scrums where I am clearly outmatched in size.

There are a number of games which I recently got my hands on which I feel are a good representation of the sport (As much one can be whilst keeping the game fun and accessible).

UFC 2009 surprised me on how they managed to make a balance between the complexity and simplicity in the grappling; especially with the mount transitions and submission positioning. The blending of striking to clinch work to grappling was also well executed. I would have liked to have seen more focus on the clinch work and perhaps a few more features in the grappling (Shrimping, selection of a number of submissions, perhaps made the mount transisitioning a little bit more refined) but all in all they did a pretty good job encompassing MMA in a computer game whilst keeping it simple enough so that most people can find it entertaining to play.

Pretty much any racquet sport I've played the game of follows the general tactics of a real game; that is court positioning and dominance along with mind games on the opposition (As thank god there is not such a way a game can force you to micromanage footwork). Mario Tennis on the N64 does this suprisingly well!
