View Full Version : Game Idea: Guess The Flick!

So I remembered on old car trips, we'd play "The Movie Game," "The Neon Game" and... well, I guess that was it. We had boring car trips. Anyways, the Movie Game consisted of someone giving the players the starting letters of the movie - Blade Runner would be "B... L..." for instance, and The Wrath Of Khan would be "T... W... O... K..."

That seemed a little boring to submit for a forum game, and as games with visual aids seem to do well, I thought we could do roughly the same thing, only instead of with letters, pictures! Yay! The person whose turn it is would put a photograph of a movie, and then others would guess.

An easy example would be:

While a more difficult example might be:

The answers being The Godfather and Labyrinth. I don't know yet if the image should feature characters from the movie, or whether or not we should say "No Foreign" or something like that. It might be best if someone gave a few clues with the pic they submit.

Just an idea.

I would be interested to try this. The success would depend on finding creative pictures from the movie. Otherwise it'll become far too easy or far too hard.
The real problem is knowing what movies people have seen. We'd probably have to stick to real famous movies.

I know that difficult one which is sad if it actually is difficult. I think it could be a fun game though it doesn't have to be famous movies per say cause then it could be over before it started

Yeah I think labyrinth was pretty easy as well :).
Yeah but if it wasn't famous movies you could jsut spam say German expressionist films and nobody would ever get them even people who have seen said films (the films are all mostly interchangeable). This is why I think the balance between too difficult and too easy will be hard.

Then we'd just call on Meister.

I'd say no foreign movies as well, could be alot of fun. PS those were both easy, but as for famous movies, I think plenty of people have seen movies that were not famous so those could be fair game in my eyes.

Well I chose the Labyrinth because everyone on NPF seems to like Bowie. But yeah - I'm hoping this will get mod approved.

Total thread necro here, but it's been months and no mod word.

I'd be interested in this if it ends up taking off

I never noticed this thread before, but it's a pretty good idea! I'd drop the "no foreign" rule though because we're a pretty international crowd here. Maybe "no movies that only ever came out in one country"?

Neat. I'll start, but I'll be away for a few hours in class afterward.

Pro tip: you might want to not name images things like "GodfatherSPLASH.jpg" if you do this. ;)

DOUBLE POST HOSHIT

Had an idea to speed things up: maybe we could make it so that if someone can prove their answer is correct, they can post their own screenshot right away without having to wait for confirmation? We'd have to agree on a method of proof, of course, and to be honest I can't think of a good one (maybe if you find a youtube video?), but I just thought I'd put it out here. Maybe one of you has an idea.

I don't know about that - if we set it up that way in the future, by implication we could also use if to proclaim ourselves winners in other games.
