View Full Version : Let's have another round of What Does Your Avatar Mean!

My current one (http://i48.tinypic.com/6dvbpk.png) is a social experiment on my part. Simply put, for ages, I've been typing like what I now realize more resembles an old persona of mine, rather than how I sound in real life. So I wondered if maybe it's because my sprite avatar looked like Dex (who was based on my own physical appearance). I thought I'd put an avatar up of Troy and see if that made any difference in how I thought and wrote out of old habits, and it seems to be getting results, although I must say two years have left me a bit rusty. XD
My previous one (http://i48.tinypic.com/6i7lg6.png) is a re-tread of one of my earliest ones, which I found I kept going back to and I thought needed an update. It kind of creeped me out at first, reminding me of a ghost, but once I got over that, it mostly held the same meaning: the inversion of what is real against a backdrop representing two characters who are very important to me.
I figure since people seem to be getting back their own choices of avatar, I'd bring the topic up again. Have at! :D
It means I like Grimmjow Jaggerjack and ripping of Synk and Numsie.

I've got one made by Fifth floating around my hard drive somewhere. When the cookie craze dies down, I'll put mine up so that it'll be different. It's symbolic of how I don't take normality for an acceptable answer or something crazy like that.

You can cleary see that my avatar symbolizes the daily struggle of unhappy simpletons against

I see a man ... he symbolizes the daily challenges humanity is faced with.
His facial expression clearly shows discontent, why is the man angry ?
If the man is angry ... is he really a man ? or is he really angry ?
If he symbolizes humanity ... why is angry ?
Has he just realized how bad he has fucked up ? Is he finally grasping his imminent doom ?!
WHAT IS A MAN ?! A MISERABLE LITTLE PILE OF SECRETS !!!!
Or maybe I am just reading too much into it ..... maybe it's just a guy with sonic diarrhea... i dunno ...

Mine is a micro yantra with some fairly complex symbolism, I'll try to explain:
The circle(s) are not actually split into 4, it's just inverted (if you swing something in front of you vertically so you can see the full circle, then move your hand that's swinging it in a circle in the opposite direction the end of the swung object inverts it's circle.)
http://humanflowerproject.com/images/uploads/poi-gold-flower.jpg
The aspect of circle embodies my taoist belief, but as it's inverted it allows for me to symbolize drawing in insight to form an artistically ascetic core which is represented by a rainbow following the negative shape pattern of the inverted circle.

Quick Reply is terrible. Also, taking the time to properly format your post, even when quoting causes you to break it up, shows that you are willing to take posting semi-seriously. Even when you aren't.
Also it may become a habit that you just can't stop. I am being serious. I suggested, for Halloween, that we moderators "dress up" as each other for the day. Fifth and I discussed the likelihood that I'd still red-text and set Tahoma on all of my posts and have to edit them after posting.
If it was me I'd keep the code around on a notepad or something and paste it in when needed. ^_^
That's not really any quicker, to be honest. And now that it is a deeply-ingrained part of how I post, time is no issue.
And, uh, I guess my avatar means I like her and that I was watching/reading a lot of Bleach when I hunted for a good image. Then I can insert here the idea that she's a person of much authority who is scarcely seen but still very influential, like me! Also I am a super-fast ninja who can turn into a cat.

There are always things like extentions (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/128) and plugins to make things easier.
Re Synkripoffvatars: I've actually been thinking I might just switch up my avatar now so that I'm less of a Synk/Numsie ripoff, but stick with a blue theme in the avatar, and keep my text formatting. I don't know what, but something about needing to do those two little clicks is kinda nice, and I do like that my posts stand out a little more now.

If you mean the text box effect like your user title, yes. You would either need a div or other block element that can have its own background to be inserted into the HTML for your posts. I don't think a span tag would be enough.
And if the forum were to give users access to divs in posts, all kinds of terrible things could happen.

Since we're now on general posting approaches rather than avatars, how does this look? I wanna post in color like the cool kids.
While also taking it to the next level in the style of Frank McConnel's epic Sandman introduction, of course.

You know, I might as well pick a background color for myself as well. Seems to be all the rage nowadays. I mean, everyone's getting into it, so I might as well join the party, am I right? Besides, it's not as if it's difficult to do, just do a color and a six digit number and BAM, I am golden.
How's this look to everyone? I think it's rather fetching myself.
What?
Is there a problem with it?
I can read it perfectly fine with my monitor...

All of mike's posts should be like that one.

What? I thought about invisible text myself at first, but I figured it was too impractical even for the Invisible Queen. I implore you to reconsider. ^_^
That's right, I now have two different levels of emphasis. Suck on that, italics.
Re. the below, ages ago when I wanted to find out the background color on the board all I did was take a screenshot and employ the eyedropper tool in photoshop.

It scares me how long he must've spent trying to so perfectly match the background colour. It's almost obsessively overworked, but all the more awesome for it.

I'm pretty sure it's #111111, but don't quote me on that. I mean, I just don't want you to get the impression that Mickey C actually works hard on stuff. Let's try it out!

It's 111111, not that hard?
Oh, did I leak the secret?
NonCon ninja'd me. So the weight of letting the secret out is lifted. Yay, NonCon!

It's not perfectly matched guys. Like I said, I can actually read that (#131313) on the background (#111111) on my monitor. It looks bold (even though it's not) and slightly blurry.

I can see it. Looks like you lightened it up a bit from what it was originally though. He was just under the impression that it was perfectly matched, and thought that must've taken a lot of work. I was just letting him know that, no, background color is pretty much common knowledge at this point. And that you're lazy.

It probably helps you see it better now you know what is there and where to look.

I throw invisible text into my posts all the time with 111111. I also use the title tag. I appreciate the variety of ways we can add snarky comments to posts on this forum.

I think we are sorely lacking a Comic Sans MS Magenta poster to inspire fear and anxiety among the masses. I am merely demonstrating the terror that it would invoke; I'm not sure if I could do this for all my posts. But I barely post anyway, as I am the Uber-Lurk. *shrug*
But I do feel pretty!

Breathing is more important than doing anything lucrative, especially advertising. Are you familiar with Buddhism like, at all? >_>
Shit is.
